And they say Wayne LaPierre is crazy? I’ll show you crazy.

After tragedies there is often a call for action – any action- regardless of how ineffective it might be. This week Wayne LaPierre of the NRA made a speech in which he called for armed cops in schools and it was ridiculed by Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Sen-elect Chris Murphy of Connecticut. Blumenthal called it “sadly and shamefully inadequate.” Murphy called it “revolting and tone-deaf.” The New York Daily News called LaPierre the “craziest man on Earth.” Let’s examine those accusations.

Among LaPierre’s remarks:

- We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office buildings, power plants, court houses, even sports stadiums are all protected by armed security.

- We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office buildings, power plants, court houses, even sports stadiums are all protected by armed security.

- A gun in the hands of a Secret Service agent protecting the President isn’t a bad word. A gun in the hands of a soldier protecting the United States isn’t a bad word. And when you hear the glass breaking in your living room at 3 a.m. and call 911, you won’t be able to pray hard enough for a gun in the hands of a good guy to get there fast enough to protect you.

So why is the idea of a gun good when it’s used to protect our President or our country or our police, but bad when it’s used to protect our children in their schools?

Crazy, right?

Right now 30% of schools have a police officer. Police chiefs in both St. Louis and Cincinnati have called for training and arming teachers. President Bill Clinton passed a program called “COPS in schools” and it placed 2200 police officers in schools. You may have read that the attack at Columbine wasn’t prevented by a police officer, but ask anyone blurting that out if Columbine would have been better off without a police officer present. Who knows how many more would have been killed without a cop present? Neil Gardner, the cop who was on duty at Columbine on the day of the attack thinks armed cops in schools is a good idea.

Are they all crazy?

Gun free zones? They are magnets for killers. John Lott writes:

“With just one single exception, the attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson in 2011, every public shooting since at least 1950 in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed has taken place where citizens are not allowed to carry guns.”

This from the NY Times:

As the nation’s leaders devise new gun control strategies following the Connecticut shooting, they should look for ways to strengthen state laws that govern the possession and use of firearms. In too many states, these laws are weak and, in some cases, seem almost designed to encourage violence.

Over the years, states have made it increasingly possible for almost any adult to carry a concealed handgun in public, including on college campuses, in churches and in state parks — places where people tend to congregate in large numbers and where, in a rational world, guns should be strictly prohibited.

Sandy Hook School is a gun-free zone.

Gun free zones mean gun free for those who would abide by the law only and map out a killing zone safe for those who would illegally conceal a weapon and commit murder.

That is crazy.

What is it that liberals want? They claim they want an assault-weapons ban, a ban on high-capacity ammunition clips, and background checks on all gun purchases. I have no objection to any of them but the fact is together they would not have prevented Newtown. Not at all. Nancy Lanza’s weapons were legal. At close range her handguns were as lethal as the rifle. Adam Lanza might even have been able to buy one the 2000 assault rifles Eric Holder’s DOJ sent into Mexico. And any background check must also ask about mental illness in the household.

There were two things which could have prevented Newtown: responsible handling of weapons and early intervention of mental illness. Adam Lanza should never have had access to his mother’s weapons. He was burgeoning sociopath and his mother knew it. In February Connecticut defeated Senate bill 452, known as AOT, which would have made it easier for Nancy Lanza to have her son treated. From CBS:

“Had the AOT bill been passed, it would have given the state the right to institutionalize a person who is mentally ill for treatment if the state has enough evidence to believe that the person could be a danger to himself or the community.”

The ACLU called it “outrageously discriminatory.” So on your way out Connecticut can thank its legislators and the ACLU for their part in Newtown. Apparently they believe the rights of sociopaths outweigh the lives of children.

That’s nuts.

Guns do not teach kids to kill. The NRA does not teach kids to kill. Hollywood does that. Video games do that. TV does that. Our culture worships movie stars- the same stars who profit enormously from the portrayal of violence and death. Tom Cruise will teach your kids how to kill in his new movie. There are websites glorifying Tarantino death scenes. They have desensitized us to death. They have cheapened life. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were big fans of Tarantino:

It has been confirmed that both Harris and Klebold were fans of Natural Born Killers. Prior to the massacre, they had used the initials ‘NBK’ as their code. In a journal entry dated, April 10, 1998, Harris wrote “When I go NBK and people say things like “Oh, it was so tragic,” or “oh he is crazy!” or “It was so bloody”, just because your mommy and daddy told you blood and violence is bad, you think it’s a fucking law of nature? Wrong, only science and math are true, everything, and I mean every fucking thing else is Man made. Before I leave this worthless place, I will kill whoever I deem unfit for anything at all, especially life.” Harris also referred to April 20 as “the holy April morning of NBK”, and in an undated journal entry, Klebold (who was severely depressed) wrote “I’m stuck in humanity. Maybe going NBK w. Eric is the way to break free”.[6] During one of the “Basement Tapes” found in Harris and Klebold’s homes, the perpetrators mention how Hollywood will want to adapt their life story, and they debate on whether or not Steven Spielberg or Quentin Tarantino (who conceived the story for Natural Born Killers) are appropriate choices to direct the proposed film.

Ironically, in response to the tragedy in Newtown actress Marg Helgenberger said that “one can only hope” that many NRA members would be shot.

And it’s LaPierre who’s crazy?

Cable trucks in the road doing repairs get an armed cop on traffic duty. Parades get armed cops. After hours school events get armed cops. Protests get armed cops. Why not schools? How to pay for it? For starters, we could redirect the billions thrown away now on green stimulus failures.

Guns are part of our Constitution. They’re not going away. LaPierre only echoed what many have said for years- including President Clinton. LaPierre could have recommended peace on Earth and liberals would have savaged him for it simply because he is the NRA. They put the jerk in knee jerk. Next I expect we’ll see our esteemed politicians blaming cars for drunk driving and pencils for misspelling.

Finally, Blumenthal stated that an armed guard at Columbine did not prevent the 1999 massacre.

Neither did a ban on assault weapons, Dick..

Now liberals want to implement rules that only law-abiding citizens will respect and will not prevent another Newtown or Columbine. Nothing to stop Hollywood from glorifying violence and death. Nothing about keeping the mentally ill from weapons.

That’s crazy. Batshit crazy.

I believe a far less intrusive response would be to allow qualified adults to concealed carry on school grounds. This provides both a deterrence and possible active intervention, and has been used by many school districts. As an NRA member for many years I deeply respect LaPierre and the organization but disagree with the approach of scapegoating video games and movies, and proposing a massive bureaucratic expansion of school security.
The real nightmare scenario which I haven’t seen addressed would be a directive to Homeland Security to confiscate groups of guns. The fact is that bravado about “cold dead hands” did nothing at all when guns were confiscated by police after Katrina. As clearly and outrageously wrong as that was, there were no reports of armed conflict — some people argued but everyone handed their guns over.
As patriotic and law abiding gun owners we need to defend our natural rights legally and politically and do so now. Consider joining another group, GOA etc, or a state group, or sending some extra $$ as a donation to the NRA. The stakes are very high for our country, and its children.

I recall a time when my father passed and it was being decided to present one of his handguns to me as part of his legacy (Marine at the Chosin Reservoir). My stepsister, bless her heart, truly felt appalled by having this “thing” in the house. This was strange to me but after considering she had lived in DC for a number of years, it made sense. She spoke and looked as if the handgun would all of a sudden just start going off in my hand. To see someone truly feel repulsed in this manner made me feel sorry for her but proud that my father had taught respect and safety first before handing me my first gun.

First, I didn’t hear the NRA leader say school security should be run by the Federal government. Scool security is a state and local responsibility. Second, could I add two more screwballs to the lengthening list?

If you want to see a photo of a young, black, punk, who owns an AR15 bought by him illegally in Colorado (he is not a resident of Colorado) and who is frequently on CNN excoriating gun owners, go here:

What do Obama, Rahm Emmanuel, and NBC’s David Gregory have in common?
All three chose schools for their children where ARMED men ply the halls whether or not a President’s child is on the rolls.

Gregory sends his kids to D.C.-based Sidwell Friends, the same expensive, high-end school the President sends his own children to.
Every day that school features armed security details. In fact, the security department is quite large for such a small school as Daniel Halper points out.

According to a scan of the school’s online faculty-staff directory, Sidwell has a security department made up of at least 11 people. Many of those are police officers, who are presumably armed.

Halper also reminds readers that because the President’s children go to the school, there is also an armed Secret Service detail at the school.

    And in Chicago?

Mayor Rahm Emanuel sends his kids to a school that has armed guards plying the hallways every school day.

All three want the rest of our children to have targets painted on their backs.

The statistics on the co-relation between violent crime and gun ownership, are unambiguous.

they love to walk on the shore, but there are a strick law to protect the habitat of the smallest pingouins
on earth , they are there protected by government rangers,
then you see many scathering dead on the ground,
they know of some people free their dogs around there, so they start a research, to prove,
if it’s the fox or dog killing them,
they decide eventualy to put an add in the news paper telling that they are looking with dna, to find
which dog is killing the birds, that is before they finish the research,
and the killing stop as soon as the newspaper is distributed, afterward they found it was a dog killer
running in the habitat loose no leash, which is a big fine to be found,
the people had an attitude, what is the life of a bird against my dog wanting to roam free, they all knew the danger well explain on board all over that park,
the people where killing by using their dog to do the killing,
nice people, good people law abiding except for this protective law to save
a species on their dangerous tangent to extinction
how close are they to be killing a human? preventing them to control their will to let their dog roam free.

Ever hear of the fallacy of logic called the false dilemma?
    You just proposed one.
    If this, then that.
    BS.
    There are always options.
Like in Paris, France’s ”No-Go Zones.”
Firefighters, paramedics even single police cars will not respond into them.
A French version of SWAT accompanies every emergency responder team.
And the SWAT-type group has to secure the area before the responders can even go help an injured or dying person.
In 1980 William Spengler beat his grandmother to death with a hammer.
He served 17 years for that, then was on parole.
He was not allowed to own or use guns.
But he set the house next to the one he killed her in on fire then waited to shoot at the responders.
    He lastly killed himself.
    Scott’s essay here:

    was quite prescient.

When the last gun ban was in effect, we had less of such mass murders either before or after. See chart at http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2012/12/17/everything-you-need-to-know-about-banning-assault-weapons-in-one-post/

Saw it on a rerun last night and had made it before, remembered how great it was, so…

PS, the key to a very yellow saffron rice is to ”brew” the saffron in hot water like you would tea leaves.
Then you can either use the golden water only or add in the safforn bits when you cook the rice.

    On a gun violence note:
    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/12/24/Chicago-Is-Gun-Control-Capital-Of-U-S-Yet-Over-440-School-Age-Children-Shot-There-in-2012

Chicago has been a shining city on a hill for gun-grabbers for decades. In fact, so extreme is the gun control in the Windy City that prior to the 2010 Supreme Court decision in McDonald v. Chicago, you couldn’t even have a gun in your own house with which to defend yourself or your family.

    ….

So in a gun-control-utopia such as this, you’d expect school-age children to be safe from all harm, if you buy into the theories of Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Yet the truth is more than 440 school-age children have been shot in Chicago in 2012.

yes the chicken catchatore is good, I remembered having some made by ITALIAN CHEF,
    SOME TIMES AGO,
I came back with 2 plates full of what was on the table, that is the tradition to distribute the rest to all the guess, I’m glad I got to help a bit, peeling the potatoes, carrots and navets [that's french, I failed to find the ENGLISH word],
and dishes, no dish washer there, BUT THE TURKEY WAS VERY GOOD, and well roasted, SHE HAS A HUGE OLD WOOD STOVE TOP PLACE COMPARTMENT ,BIG OVEN, WIDE SPACE REAL IRON STOVE AS THEY USE TO MAKE IT,she made different pies, lemon , apple, pecan, and the old farm recipie of a mince meat pie that was delicious, I had that in montreal years ago,, but this was a different way, ground beef brown raisin apple ecetera,

CHICAGO should be the first to be studyed by OBAMA, SINCE IT IS THE MODEL OF MURDERS AND CRIMES, AND OBAMA HOME TOWN.
YOU WOULD THINK HE WOULD TRY TO KEEP THE CRIME AT LOW,
HOW CAN HE RUN THE NATION IF HE CANNOT RUN HIS HOME TOWN,
    IS IN IT TELLING
BEST TO YOU. IN YOUR NEW PLACE
