A final effort by Senate Republicans to halt cuts to pensions of military retirees failed late Tuesday, after Democrats blocked an amendment to the controversial budget bill.
The two-year budget agreement, which cleared a key test vote earlier in the day, was expected to get a final vote no later than Wednesday.
Ahead of the final vote, Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., tried unsuccessfully to use a parliamentary tactic to force a vote on the amendment, which he wrote to undo the cuts for military retirees.
A provision in the already House-passed bill would cut retirement benefits for military retirees by $6 billion over 10 years.
Sessions wanted to instead eliminate an estimated $4.2 billion in annual spending by reining in an IRS credit that illegal immigrants have claimed.
He and fellow senators argued the bill unfairly sticks veterans and other military retirees with the cost of new spending.
“It’s not correct, and it should not happen,” Sessions said on the floor.
“By blocking my amendment, they voted to cut pensions for wounded warriors,” he said afterwards. “Senators in this chamber have many valid ideas for replacing these pension cuts, including my proposal to close the tax welfare loophole for illegal filers, and all deserved a fair and open hearing. But they were denied.”
Sessions’ office claimed the vote Tuesday to block the amendment was a vote to “cut military pensions instead of cutting welfare for illegal immigrants.”
Disabled vets are not spared either.
There is, however, money enough to study duck penises, provide “lifestyle lessons” for Senate staffers and more:
•$10 million for National Guard advertising tie-ins with the “Soldier of Steel” movie, despite budget cuts reducing the Guard’s strength by 8,000 soldiers.
•$7 billion for the Pentagon to destroy vehicles and other military equipment used in wars in the Middle East rather than sell or ship the items home.
•$17.5 million for special tax exemptions for Nevada brothels, including tax deductions for groceries, wages for prostitutes, rent and utilities.
•Nearly $1 million since 2010 for the National Endowment of Humanities “Popular Romance Project,” which studies romance novels, films, comics and Internet fan fiction.
•$630,000 spent by the State Department to buy followers on its Facebook and Twitter accounts.
•$325,525 for a National Institutes of Health study that found wives would be happier if they could calm down faster during arguments with their husbands.
•$150,000 to support the Puppets Take Long Island festival in Sag Harbor.
The cuts would save $6 billion over ten years. Unauthorized illegal aliens receive $4 billion in tax credits every year.
Senate Republicans tried to block the bill, but democrats stood with the illegals over the veterans.
Member of Congress and civilians employed by the government are not affected.
Congress is cutting the pensions of those who served our country so that illegal aliens would not have to do with a little less. The world is going to hell.

That’s why it says Congress and not simply “democrats” although democrats did kill the effort in the Senate to stop this atrocity.
First, let’s get the terminology correct. There is not, and will not, be a CUT to veterans, of any type, benefits of any type. They are talking about reducing the rate of increase of a few veterans (only those that retired with ONLY 20 years of service). So no one will be getting less than they presently get (that’s a cut), but if this is upheld, instead of a veteran with 20 years service getting a 1.5 % increase two years from now, he will only get a 0.5% increase. So he would still get an increase, just a smaller one. If any veteran has a written signed contract that ‘guaranteed’ them a 1.5% increase, then I’m relatively sure that contract will have to be fulfilled. If it is/was only ‘unofficially’ based on current practice and a law is written that changes current practice, then that is what is likely binding.
I am certainly for all veterans getting EVERYTHING they have been promised, but let’s at least keep the terminology correct and don’t just follow the hysteria.

As an army vet, and knowing our debt crisis, I do not mind having my annual COLA increase decreased for my retirement pay. What I find reprehensible is that we are paying illegal aliens anything, and that civilian government workers are not having their annual increases cut in this budget – if I understand things correctly. Why are only military retirees getting their annual increases cut to produce a paltry 6 billion, when the rest of the budget is being increased by 65 billion? Why isn’t everyone getting their increases cut? This reeks of political.favoritism.
@Pete: That’s a good question Pete, and there is no good answer. I, too, understand the need to balance the budget, but any retired US government person is entitled to all the pay that they earned. If part of that pay is based on ‘promised’ cola increases consistent with inflation, then that’s what it should be, but if that is not a ‘guaranteed’ retirement benefit, then, it as all government optional spending are fair game. I don’t think illegal aliens should be guaranteed income for welfare, ebit, Social Security, etc, but apparently they are. Those are the things that should be reduced.

Have done more for Veternas this past decade than the Republicans have. You pro Bush Veterans seem to have missed a private Bill passed by George Busy Senior Title 38 USC 511 which gives the VA Secretary the power to dismiss any VA claim or lawsuit without jurisdiction or reprove from the courts. It was GB Junior who “made tough choices” to secretly cut VA claims processes and pay the VA Executives bonuses for eliminating claims in order to reduce the cost of his war for oil. I know traditionally most Veterans tend to Vote Republican, but if they knew the truth, they would never vote Republican considering their (Politicians) voting record. Most Republicans always vote “NO” for military pay raises and pension hikes. Democrats are popular for wanting to cut defense spending, but their desires to do so are often misunderstood. Democrats are not trying to cut military pay or benefits; they are trying to stop the Department of Defense from wasting too much money on “materials” instead of “people”. The DoD’s primary focus is on pleasing DoD Contractors; especially with aircraft and troop ammunition contracts. The Vietnam war was all about support the DoD contractors garnering a 90 Billion dollar agreement for the Heuy Helicopter. When JKF tried to bring the troops home, the DoD grew angry and conspired with the Global Bankers and the Federal Reserves to have JKF assassinated; these truths are now made public; the Warren Commission, comprised mostly of bankers (Global Bankers) conjured up the magic bullet theory (although not originally known as such) to full the naïve public that a well trained marine fired only 3 shots 300 yards away on a moving target using an old WWII rifle, and scored a head shot. But common sense tells us that the bullet came from the front and not the rear. Anyways, the global banks are the ones who propose war. But the cost of war must be reduced; this has support from both Political Parties. Now, the cuts to military retirement COLA’s was introduced by the Paul Ryan and Ted Cruz Bill, which of course was supported by Murphy (Democrat). However, it was Ryan and his committee that made changes to the exemption of disabled Veterans 2 days before the house voted on this Bill. Plus, there were 169 Republican votes for the Bill, and 162 Democratic votes for the Bill. This means both sides are guilty, assuming that the rest of the House was not informed of the changes made by Ryan 2 days before the vote. For you Veterans who continue to support the Republican Party, remember this well. It was George Bush Senior who secretly passed Title 38 USC 511, giving the Secretary of Veterans Affairs the sole authority to toss out and dismiss any lawsuit or VA claim without fear of reprove or punishment by the courts; ironically, the courts have no jurisdiction over the Secretaries decisions. More importantly, it was George Bush Junior who said that “Tough Choices” had to be made to help balance the cost of war. What were his choices? He was the one responsible for cutting funding for the VA Court of Appeals in order to prolong the backlog rates. It was GB Junior who encouraged the VA to engage in “spoliation” against Veterans awaiting claims processing. If anything, the Obama administration did more for Veterans by reducing the growing backlog, and forcing the VA to stop screwing Veterans of their civil rights and disability compensation. More arrests have been made under Obama’s rule from crooked VA employees stealing money from disabled veterans awaiting their claims. This is not a political debate folks; I’m merely trying to point out the truth. The real enemies are the Rockefeller’s, Rothchild’s, Bush family, Koch Brothers, and the U.S. Government which is being paid substantial money by the rich family’s mentioned. It is the global banks who profit from war by providing loans to both sides of the enemy lines. They are the ones paying off our Political leaders to support their (global banks) hidden agenda. Now the global banks are trying to plunge the US and Iran into war so they can start war profiteering again. As for us Veterans? We are expendable assets to them, and because we have more free time than civilians, they are seeking to eliminate COLA to help drive us into poverty. It’s not an instant kill, but a slow death. As the cost of living continues to rise (food, gas, and energy), we would have to find more work to compensate the increase. Subsequently, because we find work (if at all), they could then use that as an excuse to reduce our retirement or disability pay. I’ve posted a few great links, but you need to watch the 1 hour long video. It is very thorough, lists important facts and details. The video explains what happened with the first great depression, who caused it, and how this linked to the recession starting in 2006 until now.
All of this ties together with the Department of Defense and the United States Government who are both controlled by the Global Banks and the Federal Reserves. It is absolutely amazing how we stupid citizens (includes me) did not know that the banks were getting rich by loaning printed money without gold or silver to back it, and the banks were collecting interest on money loaned that it never had. They (10 American banks) borrow money from the Federal Reserves to pay for war, and all other large purchase loans. The customer (and government) pays this money back to the bank with interest. The bank keeps the interest, and the Federal reserves gets .003% percent for every dollar printed. So the Federal Reserve profits by the printing of money as demanded by the banks, the banks who borrowed the money (despite not having any money) from the Federal Reserves, lends that to the customers (both domestic and government), and the customers pay this back with interest, usually at 6%, give or take. The returned money goes back to the Federal Reserves with .003% percent interest, and the bank keeps the rest. This means the bank is yielding (more like stealing or conning) interest profits by loaning money it never actually has.
Federal Law mandates that the US Government shall control the printing of money, but unfortunately the Banks control this. Oh, and lets not forget the politicians who are paid off for allowing the banks to do this.
President Woodrow Wilson new he made a huge mistake in signing the Federal Reserve Act. This act was a conn by JP Morgan (refer to the video) who scared the banks in New York by issuing a false statement that the banks were going broke and did not have any money. Sound familiar? HINT: George Bush Junior. JP Morgan in the early 1900’s used this scare tactic to inspire people to remove their money from the local banks in New York. This caused the banks to go broke. Silently, the Rockefellers and Rothchild’s left and then demanded a 24 recall of all loans provided to the banks using a scam Marginal Loan clause. And because the banks did not have the money, all of the assets (businesses, homes, cars, etc.) were seized by the global banks. THIS is why the Rockefeller and Rothchild families are the richest ones in the world, owning all of the businesses they stole in the early 19th century. President Woodrow Wilson new he made a huge mistake signing the Federal Reserve Act (written by the bankers) which destroyed our country.
Two Presidents were killed for trying to stop this corruption. President Abraham Lincoln and John, F. Kennedy. Abraham Lincoln states:

What does this have to do with the Deficit spending and their decision to cut military pensions and retirement benefits? Everything! The government must borrow money each year to pay for the debt it owes from the previous years; every year this borrowing mush be higher…and higher…and higher. Without the government (or anyone) borrowing money, the Federal Reserve stops printing money, and in time everyone goes broke. Well, the Department of Defense wants to spend more money on the Rockefeller cash cow….DoD Contractors. And we Veterans are in the way. That is one of the reasons why were are being targeted, especially with having too much time to conduct research as I have done.
Finally, I’d recommend searching for articles on Karen Hudes. She worked for the global banks for 20 years and after blowing the whistle on everything I’ve mentioned and more, they tried putting her in prison.
We are at odds with our bank controlled government folks. The NSA, FBI and the CIA exist solely to protect them. The wars are started by allegiance to the global banks who profits from this. And right now, the Rockefellers want their DoD contracts to continue. We’ve wasted billions on the F-22 and the F-35 programs, and they are still not satisfied with the most wasteful DoD spending of all time. Those two fighter jets are the worst design in American history, plagued with problems. Granted we need new equipment, but no where near the kind that the government wasted money on…ALL THANKS TO THE REPUBLICANS….and Democrats.
I hate to say this, but we need a new government with fresh Politicians who represent THE PEOPLE….NOT CORPORATIONS and TO BIG TO FAIL BANKS.

There were only two Congress-critters writing this “compromise” so it is inconceivable that either of them can claim they didn’t know it was in there. Now that Veterans and other Americans are enraged, both Murry and Ryan are back pedaling and claiming “oops!”. “Oops my ass. They both knew and approved, that is they only logical answer.
Ryan is just another in a long list of progressive establishment Republican’s who pretended to be conservative long enough to scam voters into supporting them. These posers are all RINOs who played to conservative/TEA Party concerns, only to set them aside and show their true colors once they got elected. Ryan’s support of “amnesty” is the proof that he is no conservative, much less a TEA Party candidate. Conservative and TEA Party voters need to face the fact that Ryan is not what he sold himself as.

@Joe: One thing I will agree with you on is that Lee Harvey Oswald did not shoot JFK. Arlen Spector, not the Warren Commission (yes he was a member) came up with the magic bullet theory.
In a general election, if you want to have an influence on who wins, you have to vote as a Dimocrat or a Republican. One of those will win. I remember back about 1992 when Rush Limbaugh said, the major difference in the two parties are: The Dimocrats want the country to be Socialist right now. The Republicans are okay with it happening 10 years down the road. He was dead on. The only way I would vote for Paul Ryan is if it were between him and Hillary. (or likely any Dimocrat) The country can’t take another Dimocrat, but we have a few more good years if we elect the Republican (unless it’s John McCain)

@Joe: Didn’t see anything in your links that say it was Ryan’s idea, only that the bill drafted by him and Murray contained it and the Repubs passed it. No proof that it was Ryan that came up with the idea or that he ‘pushed’ it on Murray.
I, as you, feel that basically the big money men in the world, control the world, and always have. That’s not going to change. Obama, and all recent presidents have been their tools, they let the parties alternate to keep the electorate thinking they can change things, ‘if only they can get their guy in there’. What’s in it for the current puppet in the White House? He gets fooled into thinking that when the countries are all socialist (dependent on the rich people) that he will be allowed to be a member of ‘the rich people’. He’s gonna have to increase his worth considerably to become a ‘rich guy’ by their standards. But, he’s the useful idiot at the moment. We’re not going to be changing the system anytime soon.

*Laughs* So I assume you have the facts to disprove my post. As I’m sure you already know, facts end all debate and discussion. I know all of the spying activities of the NSA, FBI, and especially the “false flag” throwing of the CIA. Anyone who attempts to speak out against these agencies are harassed physically, or emotionally. And trust me, I’ve caught the NSA (or some other government agency) hacking into my computer on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, because their professionally trained hackers are more experienced than me, they are able to penetrate any firewall defense and even your router as they’ve been provided backdoor codes to all popular Network Security Suites. Five times this year I’ve had to revamp my home computers and networks because of the Trojans they keep infecting me with. Much of this began with the class action lawsuit against the VA and the US Government. However, ever since I dropped from the CA, they haven’t been messing with me as much….that is until recently when I began learning about the governments “false flag” operations; this was done with the CIA in Cuba that eventually led to JFK’s assassination. I personally believe that Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Chaney (along with the Bush Administration) orchestrated the attacks in 911. I won’t get into the details on here, but they were trying to destroy records of stolen money from the Department of Defense.
As for those who believe the Republican Party supports the military, that is totally false. Review the voting history yourself, and you will find that on nearly every military pay raise, the GOP mostly voted “no”, while most Democrats voted “yes”. The Democrats have a history of cutting the defense budget, but that’s to force the DoD’s hand into reducing wasteful contracts. Unfortunately, especially with the Air Force, “Materials Command” will always take precedence over “people”. Even so, I dislike both parties and we need a new party. Both sides are bought out and paid for by the mega-rich.
As a concerned citizen of my country, (and yours) I believe all of the House and Senate should be arrested and placed on trail for treason against the citizens of the United States. Some should be executed for conspiring against the American people by striking deals with global banks and Wall-Street.
As for my tin-foil hat, this crazy old mad happens to have several college degrees garnering a 3.96 GPA. My major is in Information Technology. So at least give me some credit. You would do yourself a huge favor if you could disprove what I posted before trying to label me or anyone else as a loonie. :o)
