Well, it’s turning out to be more difficult than I thought to “retire” from blogging. Seems that even cyber families are tough to leave behind, and I’ve certainly fallen off the wagon to churn up waters in our heated debates INRE Cordoba House…. so be it. I’m back… sorta. At least I’ll make the greatest attempt possible! Now onward and upward with some short takes on news.
What with two high profile Democrats facing ethics charges, it seems even cleaning up the lib/prog backyard is proving somewhat dicey. Charles Rangel, facing 13 ethics charges, wasn’t feeling the love from the Obama WH last week when the pontificator-in-chief suggested that Rangel should end his career with dignity and retire…. a hint that Rangel casually dismissed, quipping “…”I guess he believes 80 is old.” But Obama isn’t the only Dem riding Charlie’s back hard on the issue.
Even in Rangel’s own state delegation, a base of staunch support, there was a crack. Democratic Rep. Michael Arcuri from central New York said Rangel “should think about stepping down because this situation is beginning to affect our ability to govern.”
~~~Before Arcuri’s statement Saturday, a half-dozen Democrats either conditionally or outright had called for Rangel to resign.
Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., said the allegations against Rangel brought by the House ethics committee show a consistent disregard for House rules and that he should step down.
“It is our job as members of Congress to hold each other accountable to a higher standard regardless of party,” said Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz. “If the serious charges against (Rangel) are accurate, he needs to resign.”
There was talk of Rangel’s resignation as well from Democratic Reps. Walter Minnick of Idaho, Betty Sutton of Ohio, Zack Space of Ohio, and Mary Jo Kilroy of Ohio.
Despite avows just days ago that Rangel refused to plea bargain, it’s a new day. And now he’s not only eager to dodge any trial, but is none too happy that his deal cut with the ethics probers wasn’t flying so well with Republicans.
Charlie is, of course, not alone in his ethics woes. Standing in the mud pit right along with him is 71 year old Maxine Waters, under investigation with a couple of charges on her own… steering some funds to a bank closely linked to Mr. Maxine Waters.
Waters, 71, has been under investigation for a possible conflict of interest: helping to arrange a meeting between the Treasury Department and Boston-based OneUnited Bank, a minority-owned institution seeking federal TARP funds, the AP said. Waters’ husband, Sidney Williams, had previously served on OneUnited’s board of directors and also held at least $250,000 worth of stock. The bank eventually received $12.1 million in federal aid, according to the Washington Post.
Unlike Rangel, ready to cave for whatever reasons, Waters fully intends to go to trial.
But now the race tangent has been added, courtesy of the Rev. Al Sharpton. The Reverend is making the rounds, quietly suggesting, then unsuggesting, that the focus on Ms. Waters and Mr. Rangel are racial in their intent. Ever on Sharpton’s mind is the need to rally and motivate the integral black vote for midterms.
It doesn’t help that one of the players in this odd quartet of black powerhouses, Waters, was a leader among nine members of the Congressional Black Caucus who launched an attack on the POTUS just last December, saying Obama “…and those around him have not been sensitive to the plight of blacks, who they claim have suffered disproportionately due to the nation’s struggling economy.”
My my… not only is the politics of Washington not improving, and the Dems exhibiting more signs of implosion, but all that “post racial” chit chat following Obama’s inaugural seems to be lost on the black leaders themselves.

It is a sad commentary on our society that allows crooks like Rangle & Waters (guilty until proven innocent) to get a pass just because they are non-white. They blather loud and long about how it’s only the blacks that are being investigated. Does it ever occur to them that there is a reason for this??? Could be that they are the ones who feel that they are entitled to anything they want and no one should call them on it. Both of these persons should be tried, and if/when convicted, should be stripped of their office and benefits and thrown out of office.

The Democrats who control the House are not afraid to go after their own. When the GOP controlled the House the Speaker simply removed 3 GOP Reps from the committee so they no longer could operate without a quorum. That was after they went after DeLay for the 3rd time.
We need to have what I call a Political Tribunal that would be just like the War Crimes Tribunal. They would go after government officials who broke the law. They would have to be made up of non-politicians. This also should be done by the states .
Why did Cunningham go to prison and Wrangel and Waters only face censure or expulsion?

That line is very telling, as if they had the ability to govern in the first place, they are “ruling”, not governing. But hey why quibble over words, of course words do have meaning at least to this old devil dog. The mere mention of the word govern is a slap in the faces of us Representative Republic types in more ways than one. Ethic’s? what ethic’s, this swamp was again misrepresented by waters involvement, drained my ass, they are filling it to the brim with every form of scum they could have found. It’s going take some serious scum sucking devices to rid the District of Corruption of all that have infested it. I am no one’s fool to think this coming mid-term will allieviate the tention placed onto the dikes of this swamp, it will take a generation of biblical thinking and practice to errase this mess they have created and another to rid this Nation of the deliberate debt thay have placed upon my grandchildren, again by design i.e. cloward-piven mental illness.
What a travesty. Rules for thee, but none for me. They all need to fired and we need to start over with term limitations and explicitly guidelines on rules and behavior for those we “elect” to govern. If I had an opportunity to speak with the Founding Fathers, I would ask them WTF they were thinking not laying out just exactly what would happen to those elected to represent the people if they violated that trust and their oath of office. But, in this day of “Constitution, we don’t need no stinkin Constitution” it probably wouldn’t have mattered. And even if November is a push back against the rangles and waters, like Average Infidel said, it’s going to take generations before things change and only if the governed or ruled as we are now, start pushing back against these corrupt scum. You’d be quite naive not to notice that they can’t hide the media exposure of the ethics violations in an important election cycle. So they are forced to do something…. plea bargain to save their own hides. And if it benefits them to throw Rangel overboard, they won’t hesitate to do so. But they won’t make that decision enforceable thru penalties… they will attempt to force Rangel out “voluntarily”.

That is what the liberal/progressive enablers like Mr. Ryan just do not get. Just because I vote GOP, and identify myself as a conservative, does not mean that I will stand by silently when a GOP member employs corruption as a means to an end.
As for Mr. Ryan and his claim of “The Democrats who control the House are not afraid to go after their own”, that is laughable in the sense that Pelosi made her claims of ethics back when the Dems first took the house back, and it took over four years to bring the first ethics charges against someone. Never mind that it comes with less than 3 months to go until a Nov. election that looks pretty bad for the Dems. Political expediency indeed!

I can’t take credit for it, I received it in an e-mail. I just sent it to my congressional douchebags (Burr, Hagan, and Schuler) asking what law gives these non elected party hacks the authority to dictate policy. I also asked if they have security clearances since they have access to our nations defense plans and other sensitive data. I would also like to know what authorizes their taxpayer funded salaries and who they are accountable to besides the indonesian idiot (yes, I realize past Presidents have had “advisors”, but the scope and depth of these peoples involvement with no checks/balances or outside accountability is “unprecedented”). This shadow government seems to make congress redundant. Its truly frightening how fast this decline has happened. I pray daily that the good people of this country regardless of party affiliation wake up and stop this madness in November. Its our last chance to push back in a significant way because 2012 is too far down the road. And seeing how much damage the indonesian idiot and his thuggers have done so far, we might not be able to recover if they have 2 more years of unchecked power. Charlie, with his 13 ethics charges, has a long way to go if he hopes to catch up to Newt’s 84.
The House voted in 1997 to reprimand Newt for his malfeasance by a vote of 395 to 28. They stuck him with a $300,000 fine. Yet here he is again, in 2010, positioning himself for a 2012 run for the White House.
Maybe we only get what we deserve. It’s our punishment for not paying attention and for having short memories.

Look who isn’t paying attention. The Republican controlled House did vote to reprimand Gingrich in 1997, however, he was not “stuck” with a $300,000 fine and was eventually CLEARED of all charges.
Don’t know if you recall an idiot by the name of David Bonior, D-WI. He was the partisan hack that filed 74 of the charges all by himself.
