A No Class Act all around. My dark humor on that band of jackals would get a visit from the Secret Service if I voiced them here. Everything that is wrong with America today was on display. They are haters. Period.

I knew you would hit on this one Mike, but this event is all about JOKES, not policy. The most outrageous correspondent’s dinner was when Bush had Steven Colbert……
BTW, Rush lives by the outrageous, bombastic, caustic wit he serves up everyday, targeting those who have differing views than himself and makes a great living doing, so, if you live by the sword…..if you can’t take it then don’t dish it out.
If you watch the video when she mentioned Rush being the 20th hijacker, Obama sure didn’t look comfortable, and grabbed a glass of water as the only cover available.
As for the comment in your posting “Imagine if a comedian “joked” that Obama was a terrorist who was guilty of treason and should be tortured and allowed to die. There would justifiably be an outcry.”
Some folks here do that all the time, except you don’t advocate the torture and dying part…yet anyway. Remember the Fox News Terrorist fist bump?
Obama’s willingness to laugh at these terrible personal assaults indicates a willingness to engage in them himself. The country will not go along with it.
On top of that, the expanding deficit as announced this morning, will only drive up interest rates as well as inflation – killing off any real jobs recovery. So… in the matter of a few short months, Obama has fully demonstrated why liberal economic policies never work.
@mooseburger said: “Rush lives by the outrageous, bombastic, caustic wit he serves up everyday”
So you listen to Rush every day do you?
And aren’t you painting the readers here with a rather stereotyped brush?
As for the terrorist bit, you must be referring to the New Yorker:
Has the New Yorker merged with Fox News and joined the vast right wing conspiracy?
I remember the outrage over that cover. I only wish you folks found Wanda Sykes’s comedy half as appalling.

And of course Sykes must be defended at all costs by the Leftbrains. Meanwhile a golf comedy writer and commentator must grovel for forgiveness because “Ah disremember” Pelosi and
“The war is lost” Reid are sacrosanct.
When Harnden starts the title of his column with the words “Not Funny”, he kinda loses and credibility to be a judge on humor. Btw, thanks for re-posting that cover, I thought it was hilarious initially, but that’s certainly a gag that gets even better with time.

Mike:”I only wish you folks found Wanda Sykes’s comedy half as appalling.”
That was comedy????? You give her too much credit. 😉
I just think it is funny that the left got their panties in a was over Rush saying he hoped Obama failed. There was a shocker *NOT!*
Now – exactly how many democrats wanted GW Bush to fail and said so publicly?
Heck, not only did they want him to fail, they wanted him dead, assassinated or killed by their very own hands. Bush Derangement Syndrome ran rampant on the left and knew no bounds.
Moose: “Imagine if a comedian “joked” that Obama was a terrorist who was guilty of treason and should be tortured and allowed to die. There would justifiably be an outcry.”
No. There would be cries that such a thing is RACIST! Just calling a spade er uh a club, er … uhhh a diamond, a diamond.
Sorry I just realized that spade could be taken the wrong way and that clubs were black and I wouldn’t want to get dinged for that so … I guess we’ll just have to use hearts or diamonds in that phrase in regard to all things Obama to avoid any hint of racial overtones. Right?
@Fred : Feherty was just voicing the contempt felt for Pelosi by so many! Since it is CBS, I wonder how long before the floor drops from under Feherty. Hey, at least on the bright side, he didn’t wish Pelosi’s kidneys would fail and then laugh about it!

I personally hope someone removes the staples behind Nancy Pelosi’s ears, and proceeds to strangle her with her own sagging flesh……that would be sweet…! And I hope someone feeds Harry Reid a cut lemon, his face is already so puckered, it would actually collapse into a black hole if he ate something sour….. It would also be nice if Michelle was beaten to death with a $500 pair of tennis-shoes, by a mean, bitter, gun-clinging, religious person. See? It’s funny! That makes it A-OK according to the Liberal Fun-Loving Left. Let’s see if the skittish Liberal Left Hollywood Elite will take up the challenge. Hope! Change! Socialism!

Mike: I listen to Rush more than you probably think, and I sure wasn’t trying to paint everyone here with the same brush at all, but you have to admit there is way plenty of hate and bad wishes for Democrats in general and Obama in particular that goes unchallenged here everyday. I did say “some folks” because there are many perspectives here.
Some Folks who dish that out all the time and then get their panties in a bunch when the same type of things get said about their “team” are folks that you just have to consider the source, it hurts your credibility when you can dish it out but can’t take it. I’m not talking about just criticizing or protesting, and I’m not talking about just Conservatives, Libs are as bad or worse at times. But I’ll say it again, Rush walks on the fine edge with his comments quite often, and if he can dish it out, he can be a man and take it in stride. When you engage in combat, you just might get shot back at, and taking a “shot” at a “roast” event like the correspondent’s dinner is like getting shoot at by a nerf ball
As for the New yorker, if that cover ran with John and Cindy McCain instead of the Obamas, there would have been as bad or worse push back on it.
but you have to admit there is way plenty of hate and bad wishes for Democrats in general and Obama in particular that goes unchallenged here everyday.
but this event is all about JOKES, not policy. The most outrageous correspondent’s dinner was when Bush had Steven Colbert……
By “outrageous”, what do you mean? Positive? Negative?
I thought these types of events were supposed to be as much about roasting the man at the top and utilizing self-deprecating humor, as much as poking political fun at everyone (in good-natured zest, rather than serious political barbed low-blows).
I didn’t watch this Correspondents Dinner, so other than the teleprompter joke, I trust the rest of the jokes were in the spirit of good-natured ribbing and self-deprecation?
[*UPDATE EDIT* Ok, it appears that most of the Dinner jokes were consistent with the spirit of past Dinners]

Mooseburger has this totally correct.
I see in your response to Mooseburger you finally realized that Fox noise is a conspiracy so called news organization.
BTW just in case you are going to try to defend Fox Noise now… remember this??
ED Hill the news commentator from Fox Noise calling the fist bump a Terrorist Jab??
ED Hill ended up apologizing for saying it.

“Real” American Patriot,
Wanda Sykes is a comedian(?)… Uh, sure….if you say so. How is it that previous iterations of this spent more time roasting the guest of honor, than say, his enemies? And Fox News is the only media outlet with a point of view? Paging Chris “Thrill Up the Leg, My Job is to Make Sure Obama Succeeds” Matthews. It amazes me how intolerant the Leftist Liberals are when it comes to whining about biases, and how blind they are to the enormous advantage Lefitst Liberals have in LameStream Media outlets. Let’s see…..Leftists Slanters = CNN, MSNBC, NY Times, ABC, CBS, NBC, Washington Post, Public Broadcasting, Mpls. Star\Tribune, National Public Radio, Chicago Tribune, LA Times….etc, etc. Of course I know that one of the huge blindspots Liberal Lefties have is the slanted coverage coming from these “news” organizations. In their eyes, they are considered mainstream, or even centerist in their political views, which shows how far Left they are. Considering how much Lefties love “speaking truth to power” and how “dissent is the ultimate patriotism”, I though they’d be OK with us voicing our displeasure with the Obamessiahs head-long rush to Socialism. Silly me…
@mooseburger: Mossy, I gave you a pass earlier thinking you might reflect on what you said and back away from the absurd comparison you raised.
Yet, you came back and said this: ” I sure wasn’t trying to paint everyone here with the same brush at all, but you have to admit there is way plenty of hate and bad wishes for Democrats in general and Obama in particular that goes unchallenged here everyday”
Perhaps you can point to the previous dinners during the Bush Administration where the same level of vitriol as Wand Sykes was on display.
How long should I expect to wait until you provide me the links/videos to that?
You suggest that the commenters here put out “way plenty of hate and bad wishes for Democrats in general and Obama. ” Have any of the commenters here been selected to appear as the highlight of one of these events?
And I’d be willing to bet that the comments from our readers are much tamer than the bile and hate STILL directed at Bush, Cheney, Rush by the kooks at Democrats Underground or Huffington Post.
Your lame attempt to point the finger back at the readers here is nothing more than an enabling act that gives Hollywood comedians and the haters in the Democrat Party free license to continue the unrelenting campaign of hate we have seen from the left for more than eight years.
I’d say you and CRAP should be ashamed of yourselves for the role you play in propagating the campaign of hate you people have launched but I realize how blind you are to your own responsibility in the matter.

RAP, Moose…do either one of you understand the term “Hate Speech” ?
That opens the door for a lot of things. It escalates.
I thought not. I found it offensive and in very poor taste. Idiots in my neck of the woods get their backsides kicked in for speaking about ANYONE in that fashion. It was a hatefest conducted by folks with either NO or Low Class.
The fact that the Pretender in Chief found it amusing is a poor reflection upon those that voted for him and an indication of his general lack of character. If You found it witty and amusing that reflects un-flattering on you. If this is the new standard for humor or entertainment amongst polite company then forget about culture. It resembled a ghetto street corner gathering more closely than a White House function or perhaps feeding time at the Zoo.
I found it very offensive and pretty demeaning. If that is Obama’s concept of dignity & decorum he will be lucky to complete one term.
Do either of you understand what happens when civility & good taste go away? When that happens you two would be living in fear because that means anything goes.
I’m sure you don’t want that. If you do want that I would feel sad about what could be possible.
Having deployed to places where anything goes, I’ve seen it first hand and you don’t want that. If America is Your Home, You don’t want to see that here. I can play that anything goes game. You would not like the results.
Show me another time in the history of this event where it was OK to joke about an event that terrified thousands of people and sent them fleeing into the streets.
Show me another time in the history of this event that those things happened.
Show me.
Truly classless behavior on display all around last night.
you have to admit there is way plenty of hate and bad wishes for Democrats in general and Obama in particular that goes unchallenged here everyday.
Actually, no I don’t have to admit that.
Very, very rarely do comments get posted here in which a political opponent is wished ill health or injury or death. However, when they do get posted, they seldom go without being immediately challenged by one of the authors or one of the regulars. In some cases, such comments are immediately removed, never to be seen again.
The Left, however, has an established routine by which it wishes health issues, and even death, on its’ political opponents. If you want examples, we can dredge them up for you.
Unless you can point to specific examples here on FA, then you need to apologize for your slur against this site and those of us who participate here.
Rush is a Big Boy (in more ways than one) he can take it.
Hey Bruce,

My only comment here is the hypocrisy of the left and the press. If it had been President Bush or any conservative sitting there laughing at their tasteless jokes about other celebrities, the press would have been all over it and accusing him of wishing someone dead. They would have pulled the “guilt by association” rule.
As far as blaming Obama for his reaction, I don’t. That is a very awkward situation to be in at these kind of events. How in the world would you handle it? Do you interrupt the comedian’s commentary with a protest about the appropriateness of these comments? These are very awkward situations. Obama strikes me as the sort of person who is not really socially comfortable with people and in situations. He comes across smooth (too smooth) as if it is an act but he doesn’t handle himself well. I think he really needs to get a book of etiquette out there. The proper thing for a president to do is not smile or laugh at these comments, look kind of disappointed. He would have set the tone and he would have had more credibility. Never laugh at the suggestion of someone being tortured or dying. It is really not funny no matter the circumstances. By doing that, he would have set the proper tone and he would have had cover later for when he would issue a statement that he doesn’t share the comedians views and he thought the joke was in poor taste.
As far as Rush Limbaugh is concerned, he makes his living as a radio talk show host. He can dish it out as well as take it. He is probably doing an air commercial to the effect and raking in some more advertising dollars for this. The left just never learns.
Hey you guys should write a code of conduct and draw the line as to what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in terms of humour or political jibes.
Examples…
Is it okay to joke about or attack a politician’s or political commentator’s family – particularly their children.
Is it okay to joke about or comment that you would like to see physical harm done to a politician or political commentator’s etc.
Then we shall see who crosses the line in terms of ‘hate speech’ most often in the media and on here.
The right & left are both guilty on this.

Forget about Hate Crimes or Hate Speech legislation after this spectacle. An example was set.
To be quite frank with you, the event reminded me of a street corner scene in Haiti after food rations were handed out and bottles of cheap wine were passed around before a cockfight. I deployed there to keep Order many moons ago. It is still a hellhole with a slightly lower moral standard than DC.

Aqua there is so much hate speech from the right it’s outrageous and you know it…
here is a couple of samplings from Savage… copied from the Media Matters web site.
Savage: “Kenya is going to move to America if Barack Hussein Obama wins”
During the October 10 broadcast of his radio show, Savage baselessly accused Obama of running a “corrupt campaign,” suggested that white liberals “hate white people,” repeated the discredited charge that Obama “won’t produce his birth certificate,” and asserted “Kenya is going to move to America” if Obama wins the election.

Savage said: “Now, you want me to tell you my opinion on autism, since I’m not talking about autism? A fraud, a racket. … You know what autism is? I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is.”
Perhaps you’ll point out where conservatives have joked in a prominent public forum (like this press club gathering) about wishing for the demise of those with political views they don’t like, CRAP. Or do you confuse legitimate complaints about Obama’s policies, his lack of transparency on his birth certificate lawsuits, and his mysterious campaign contribution records with “hate” speech?
Even the remarks from the no-holds-barred Michael Savage do not constitute “hate speech” such as Sykes did. The choice of the Zero’s handlers for who to emcee this event shows good judgment by Obama or his chosen disciples is distinctly absent.

Typical brain dead voter…. all mouth and emotion, and no comprehension and facts.
You decry the Libs and their tactics, (some of you) but you then become very sensitive all of a sudden when the same style Limbaugh uses is thrown back your direction.
Straw. Man.
Limbaugh has never once wished physical harm or death on a political opponent.
Limbaugh engages on the issues and the policies, not on a personal, hurtful level.
In fact, you’ll be hard pressed to find a politician or prominent member of the right who has engaged in anything even remotely similar to what went on Saturday night.
Not only that, but it was a “Roast” for gosh sake.
You’re right. It was a “roast” type dinner.
The tradition of this event, and “roasts” in general, is that the guest of honor, the president, is the subject of the majority of the humor, whether by the other guests, or of the self-deprecating variety.
Feel free to provide examples of past events in this series which have produced jokes about one’s political opponent having kidney failure or some other acute medical condition.
Feel free to provide examples of past events in this series which have produced jokes about the day that 3,000 plus of our fellow citizens were murdered.

Sorry to butt in, but the entertainer for the WHCA is not chosen by the President or his “handlers”; rather, the complete opposite:
WHCA president-elect Ann Compton has said that while “there is no entertainment that is perfect,” choices of future entertainers will not be made “to please a presidential staff, [or] to be politically correct.”
So Sykes has some schlocky jokes and one that’s racy. If you watch the video, Obama is so clearly uncomfortable at this that Sykes even jokes about it – “Too much? I know you’re laughing on the inside though”. I guess there wasn’t any mustard at the dinner, so this has become today’s thing and your justification is that the left does the same. To your point, AC, Bush did joke about dead Americans when he made that “where are the WMD’s” video; (as a side note, I thought it was quite humorous) but you can see how people could interpret this as a joke at the expense of those serving and dying in Iraq. Sure, the Kos Kids and such yelled their teeth out in response, but are you guys really just striving to be the conservative mirror of dKos?
Triz, I stand corrected. Thank you for the WHCA heads up. Per it’s history, it now stands independent of the WH, and of the White House credentialing process. Altho I do note that President’s have put their own caveats down in the past as a prerequisite to attending.
But I actually agree… I don’t think Obama’s was overly pleased at the emcee’s behavior. So I didn’t hold him personally responsible, but did put responsibility on those I believe over which he had a modicum of control.
Bush’s WMD video was not a joke about dead Americans. It was a joke on himself, at the media complaining he hadn’t found them yet. Nothing to do with our US casualties. And shame on your for misportraying a man cares very deeply about our military by calling that an insult to our soldiers. I am hoping that Obama, after more exposure, will start to feel the same.
But yes… I found that one mildly amusing, but certainly not one of his best. Bush really shined when he laid it on about his bud, Cheney. See some of his correspondence dinner moments… I think you will see a completely different ambiance.
For the libtards among us who insist that we “righties” are just as bad, I want to draw your attention to this comment I made in regard to the post about a joke CBS’s Golf Analyst said about our troops shooting Nancy Pelosi:
I can fully understand why our troops would loathe Pelosi and Reid. But I am certain that none of them would exercise their disgust with violence.
I know it’s a joke, but I don’t find it funny.
The guy who wrote that original article was wrong to do so just as Sykes is wrong now. Interesting that the libs who were all hot and bothered about the Pelosi thing are cheering Sykes.
Hypocrisy, thy name is libtard!
@mooseburger: The “torture” is a reference to waterboarding Rush Limbaugh. Since you libtards believe waterboarding is torture, Sykes was making a very nasty statement about torturing Limbaugh.
I do not believe that waterboarding JUST THREE TERRORISTS to save thousands of American lives was torture. What is torture is having to explain such simple concepts to people like you who would rather be dead apparently than waterboard Mohammed.

Were the Michael Savage QUOTES not good enough for you??????
Sorry but what Savage said was spoken seriously during one of his hate filled radio broadcasts and what Sykes said was said as part of a COMEDIANS ROUTINE!
That point seems to have been lost on all of the righties in this string!!!!
The only thing you have proven in this string is you righties is YOU have no sense of humor!
BTW, CRAP… I have an excellent sense of humor, and is one of my best traits. I should think the fact I suffer you with so little chagrin is proof of that here.
@trizzlor.myopenid.com: You’re comparing Flopping Aces to Kos? You really have no shame do you?
Should we drag up all the instances of where Kos and Huffpo have wished Dick Cheney dead? How about the asswipes that cheered when Tony Snow died?
Do you see ANYTHING on these pages that is the equivalent of that?
I just got done linking to my condemnation of the Pelosi joke. I’ll give you some time to soak that in and perhaps you’ll gain some needed perspective.
@Real American Patriot: Did I miss Savage when he did the standup routine at one of these dinners?
I’m not a fan of Savage and you won’t find me defending him. But you also do NOT HAVE A POINT!
“Kenya is going to move to America if Barack Hussein Obama wins”
says Obama ran a corrupt campaign
won’t produce his birth certificate
suggested that white liberals… constantly accusing any white voter of not supporting Obama because they were “racist”… “hate white people”…
************************
So where’s the hate speech, CRAP?
Kenya was big supporters of their grandson. Where’s the hate? Also, no personal individual named.
Obama’s campaign has questionable donations, and utilized class warfare to rile his base. Where’s the hate but what Obama incited for the underclass for the higher classes?
Savage saying white liberals (no one specific named) hate white people because the media was filled daily with those accusing McCain supporters as being racist. Sounds like an explanation to me. You might want to ask those liberals accusing anti-Obama voters about their hate speech.
As I said, you consider responding to campaign issues and media accusations as “hate speech”. Technically, that makes you a bigot. None of Savages comments compares with jokingly wishing for illness or death for a particular person who isn’t even an elected office… merely because they disagree.
You are, and remain, a blithering idiot with limited comprehension of language and issues.
~~~
Gaffa… still suffering from the “Queen’s English” translation problems, I see. What goes on in the masses for their back and forths (as you see especially on Daily KOs and Huffpo), has less to do with the issue of politically correct “entertainment” than when it’s done at an event put on BY the POTUS and White House. The very event sanctioned her behavior and tasteless remarks at an officially sponsored WH function. It was bad judgment by Obama and his staff to use Sykes.
I will wager that Obama is regretting the choice of his party planners, and their judgment of an emcee. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt, and think he was caught by surprise by her shock jock and OT diatribe.
Perhaps he needs to exercise better judgment in his party planners, as he should with his diplomatic advisors on protocol.
@GaffaUK: Perhaps you would like to provide some examples of where those on the right have attacked Obama’s children.
I can dig up dozens of examples of where Sarah Palin’s children were dragged through the mud.
Why is it that the left always goes out and pulls this crap then when criticized about it makes some lame claim that we do the same thing?
@MataHarley: Glad we could agree. I don’t want to get too much into the WMD joke considering I thought it was pretty funny (my favorite sketch was probably the Bush + internal Bush impersonator), but it’s not a stretch to interpret it as tastelessly mocking the fact that the initial justification for war fell through and that Bush doesn’t much care. If you assume Bush is classless then it’s salt in the wound, otherwise it’s just a self-deprecating jab – I guess that’s politics.
On his TV show, early in the Clinton administration, Limbaugh put up a picture of Socks, the White House cat, and asked, “Did you know there’s a White House dog?” Then he put up a picture of Chelsea Clinton, who was 13 years old at the time and as far as I know had never done any harm to anyone.
Folks, as the lefturds are showing, they believe the rules don’t aply to tem. Attempts to do so will be met with phony clamis of equivlence. In all fairness, delusional larry probably believes the BS he posed. Moosebrain, unfit, and CRAP don’t, but don’t care as long a they oppress the oppositon and maintain power.
BTW lefturds, my post was an example of exactly what your kind has been doing for some time.
Leftist=hypocrite
Gaffa, that has been explained here before. I have a hard time believing you don’t know about it.
That was an error that he apolgized for. The order of the pics were mixed up and it WAS NOT a deliberate act. BTW, mother jones is hardly a credible source. I’m not surprised you tried to us them though.
Like I said, Rush walks a fine line, some interpret what Sykes said as wishing death, when, in fact, while in very poor taste, kidney failure does not equal death (Dialysis) and so there is a fine line again, Riots can cause death, but Rush said he was only dreaming about riots, so, while a happy fantasy for him to relate to his millions of listeners, it falls just a hair short of using his clout to promote riots, just have happiness if they do happen because it would be great for Republicans.
Both Limbaugh and his dream for riots and Sykes and her wish for kidney failure are people who have their critics and defenders. Both are on the edge and go too far sometimes. Both like the attention and make more money when they are controversial. Both promote phony outrage from their detractors. It’s like a game of Tag, and right now, the Conservatives are “it” until it’s the Libs turn again.
Moose, I’m a regular listener to Rush. Pray tell provide any single quote where he wishes for riots. You will find all his shows archived at his site. Have at it…. we’ll wait for you.
And CRAP, if you did any listening to Savage, of which I’ve listened off and on since his rise in SF in the late 90s, you’d know that he has a nutritional degree and background, and is very involved in critiques on our government over medicating and misdiagnosing American children. This was part of a segment making just that point… that it was easier to drug the kids and diagnose them with some illness than actually cope with the responsibilities of parenthood. He is not… nor has ever been… unsympathetic to genuinely afflicted children. But since you live by leftist soundbyte alone, and never take in the full story, you’d never know.
Savage said: “Now, you want me to tell you my opinion on autism, since I’m not talking about autism? A fraud, a racket. … You know what autism is? I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is.”
If that isn’t hate speech what is???
Apparently you are the blithering idiot here…
Nice try Moosebrain, but strike one. I saw everything Rush said and it was hardly hate speech. It was humorous. That’s also why you didn’t post a link. Watching you and CRAP lie and spin to justify the hate people like you spew is actually amusing.
This is too funny. All the leftists are doing is showing what intolerant hypocrites they are.
The “examples” they cite are not only anything but an example, it’s proof of how horrible by comparison Wanda’s despicible comments were.
To paraphrase the saying–stop digging lefties.
@MataHarley: Savage is a fascinating character; used to hang out with Ginsberg and the Beats and then did a complete 360 in philosophy. I used to listen to him quite regularly trying to comprehend how, in the span of an hour, one person could go from truly interesting discussions on history and culture, to quasi-supremacist statements about how the proud white race is dying, to bizzare paranoia about gays and the “pink hand” like the following:
Savage then said to the caller, “Oh, so you’re one of those sodomites. You should only get AIDS and die, you pig; how’s that? Why don’t you see if you can sue me, you pig? You got nothing better to do than to put me down, you piece of garbage? You got nothing to do today? Go eat a sausage, and choke on it. Get trichinosis. Now do we have another nice caller here who’s busy because he didn’t have a nice night in the bathhouse who’s angry at me today? Put another, put another sodomite on….no more calls?…I don’t care about these bums; they mean nothing to me. They’re all sausages.”
That’s the one he was fired for from MSNBC of all places.
And what did the caller say to Savage, Gaffa?… oops, Triz (sorry, Gaffa)
Now trust me, I don’t want to be in the position of defending everything about Savage, since I probably disagree more than half the time with him… or at the very least, the way he puts things. One of the places I agree is with his stance on drugging American children. A subject hear and dear to my heart.
And I agree… he’s an intelligent man, well schooled in many subjects. But he’s also a talk show host who, like Obama (in a more politically correct way) with his O’faithful, delights in getting his following all hot and bothered. I don’t see much difference in Obama’s carefully parsed language, inciting class warfare. He’s just a slicker, greasier version of Savage who accomplishes the same with with honey’d tongue and more high brow language.
As far as the gays, Savage doesn’t care what anyone does in their bedrooms, and says so quite often. But he, like me and many others, don’t care to have it shoved in our face every given minute. And the segments you quote are when they call in and do just that. Perhaps his screeners look for those for shock talk jock effect… who knows. So he calls them sodomites. I guess that can only be construed as an insult if you don’t indulge, and don’t care to indulge. Otherwise, it’s a common term for a sexual act. But it’s somewhat one sided to quote only what he responds to a caller without citing what the caller said as well.
What you forget is that Savage is an independent, and has spent eight years bashing Bush and the conservatives as often, and with the same intensity, as he does the liberal left. His venom knows no boundaries. So if you’re wanting to place Savage on conservatives’ side, you’d better try again. He’s an equal opportunity debaser.
@GaffaUK: The fact that you had to go back to something 14 years ago says something don’t you think?
Are you just trying to enable more slime from the Democrats? If so, why bother. They don’t seem to need much encouragement.
You swallowed every smear against Sarah Palin as if it was a fact. It’s pretty sad that you haven’t learned your lesson.
@mooseburger: So you have officially joined Gaffa in the enabler lobby. Big surprise.
And if waterboarding is such a crime that the left would prosecute Bush for it then why do you think it’s excusable to suggest it be done to Rush Limbaugh? I thought you people were opposed to “torture?”
@Real American Patriot: So, CRAP…. remind me again when Savage was the host at one of these dinners?
Or do you not understand the relevance of the question?
@ Trizzlor: Same question as the above to CRAP.
@Mike’s America: Take it as you will, but I’m staying out of this debate on who dishes out more crap; no side has a monopoly on hate and a loud hateful spokesperson doesn’t discount the philosophy he claims to support. I’m rarely in the mood for “what if the other side had done it” flame wars, my comment on Savage was just that – an interesting observation.
Mike, Rush never insulted Chelsea. IIRC, going by his script the picture of Lucky was supposed to come up, not Chelsea. From the transcripts I saw he apologized within a few seconds or minutes of for the error and explained what had happened. The lying left tried to pretend this was an attack on Chelsea. It’s an excuse they use to justify their attacks on the Bush kids. Even if it hadn’t happened they would have done so, but you know that.
@Mike’s America: Sorry for the double post, but I just noticed your comment regarding FA and Kos. I certainly hold FA in higher regard than Kos, which is why I read and post at one and avoid the other. However, I do see a lot of these discussions as a way to get back at the other side for reprehensible behavior in the past – my point is that two wrongs make a stupid.
@MataHarley: Is the Gaffa thing meant to be a sock-puppet joke, or are you just drowning in the libtard? I can’t find any more context to the quote than the following:
MICHAEL SAVAGE: So you’re one of those sodomists. Are you a sodomite?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, I am.
MICHAEL SAVAGE: Oh, you’re one of the sodomites. You should only get AIDS and die, you pig …
EDIT: Actually, here’s the video, Savage just goes off.
The offensive part isn’t regarding “sodomites” (which the caller willfully agrees to) but that little bit about getting AIDS and choking on a sausage.
Naw, Triz… not a sock-puppet joke. Just a brain fart… LOL Corrected it after the fact with a strike out, as you can see.
Care to go back a bit further in the conversation than the question? Oh… that’s right… it’s all that was provided in your source. How convenient for them. So aren’t you even curious what lead up to the question?
Double posting myself here, Triz… with additional info for you about what you don’t know. You might start with East Coast Bob’s own website where he was living high off the hog with kudos for getting Savage fired. East Coast Bob, you see, is known as somewhat of a radio (and now TV) show prankster and pulls these stunts with some regularity.
Does this make Savage’s response okay? Nope… as a host on cable TV, he should certainly have maintained control. But then, that’s not what Savage’s audiences love him for. (frankly, he’s not a prime time host candidate…)
However I think you’ll find East Coast Bob wasn’t some innocent gay man, taken advantage of by Savage. He called to deliberately insult and goad Savage personally (something about insulting him about his appearance and his teeth). From reading thru his stuff, he doesn’t sound like a man who deserves my sympathy or compassion. He wears this prank as a badge.
BTW… Ed Schultz, Al Franken, Janeane Garofolo and that complete whiny, lying loser, Randi Rhodes (faking a street attack when she just fell on her duff…), are just as offensive as Savage. And while Savage is NOT a Republican or conservative, they are most definitely rapt, prozac’ed out members of the O’faithful. So I suggest you naysayers start making your excuses for them.
Found a video of it here. I really don’t understand the context at all (the caller says something about Savage’s teeth?) but it seems like Savage just overreacts as usual.
A No Class Act all around. My dark humor on that band of jackals would get a visit from the Secret Service if I voiced them here. Everything that is wrong with America today was on display. They are haters. Period.
I knew you would hit on this one Mike, but this event is all about JOKES, not policy. The most outrageous correspondent’s dinner was when Bush had Steven Colbert……
BTW, Rush lives by the outrageous, bombastic, caustic wit he serves up everyday, targeting those who have differing views than himself and makes a great living doing, so, if you live by the sword…..if you can’t take it then don’t dish it out.
If you watch the video when she mentioned Rush being the 20th hijacker, Obama sure didn’t look comfortable, and grabbed a glass of water as the only cover available.
As for the comment in your posting “Imagine if a comedian “joked” that Obama was a terrorist who was guilty of treason and should be tortured and allowed to die. There would justifiably be an outcry.”
Some folks here do that all the time, except you don’t advocate the torture and dying part…yet anyway. Remember the Fox News Terrorist fist bump?
Democrats always torpedo themselves…
Obama’s willingness to laugh at these terrible personal assaults indicates a willingness to engage in them himself. The country will not go along with it.
On top of that, the expanding deficit as announced this morning, will only drive up interest rates as well as inflation – killing off any real jobs recovery. So… in the matter of a few short months, Obama has fully demonstrated why liberal economic policies never work.
Conservatives should take heart though. For a list of ten reasons for optimism, you can hit:
http://firstconservative.com/blog/top-ten/conservative-resurgence
@mooseburger said: “Rush lives by the outrageous, bombastic, caustic wit he serves up everyday”
So you listen to Rush every day do you?
And aren’t you painting the readers here with a rather stereotyped brush?
As for the terrorist bit, you must be referring to the New Yorker:
Has the New Yorker merged with Fox News and joined the vast right wing conspiracy?
I remember the outrage over that cover. I only wish you folks found Wanda Sykes’s comedy half as appalling.
And of course Sykes must be defended at all costs by the Leftbrains. Meanwhile a golf comedy writer and commentator must grovel for forgiveness because “Ah disremember” Pelosi and
“The war is lost” Reid are sacrosanct.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/05/10/golf-analyst-feherty-sorry-pelosi-joke-dallas-magazine/
Makes perfect sense to the Obamists.
Obama was funnier than Sykes.
When Harnden starts the title of his column with the words “Not Funny”, he kinda loses and credibility to be a judge on humor. Btw, thanks for re-posting that cover, I thought it was hilarious initially, but that’s certainly a gag that gets even better with time.
Mike:”I only wish you folks found Wanda Sykes’s comedy half as appalling.”
That was comedy????? You give her too much credit. 😉
I just think it is funny that the left got their panties in a was over Rush saying he hoped Obama failed. There was a shocker *NOT!*
Now – exactly how many democrats wanted GW Bush to fail and said so publicly?
Heck, not only did they want him to fail, they wanted him dead, assassinated or killed by their very own hands. Bush Derangement Syndrome ran rampant on the left and knew no bounds.
Moose: “Imagine if a comedian “joked” that Obama was a terrorist who was guilty of treason and should be tortured and allowed to die. There would justifiably be an outcry.”
No. There would be cries that such a thing is RACIST! Just calling a
spadeer uh aclub, er … uhhh a diamond, a diamond.Sorry I just realized that spade could be taken the wrong way and that clubs were black and I wouldn’t want to get dinged for that so … I guess we’ll just have to use hearts or diamonds in that phrase in regard to all things Obama to avoid any hint of racial overtones. Right?
@Fred : Feherty was just voicing the contempt felt for Pelosi by so many! Since it is CBS, I wonder how long before the floor drops from under Feherty. Hey, at least on the bright side, he didn’t wish Pelosi’s kidneys would fail and then laugh about it!
I personally hope someone removes the staples behind Nancy Pelosi’s ears, and proceeds to strangle her with her own sagging flesh……that would be sweet…! And I hope someone feeds Harry Reid a cut lemon, his face is already so puckered, it would actually collapse into a black hole if he ate something sour….. It would also be nice if Michelle was beaten to death with a $500 pair of tennis-shoes, by a mean, bitter, gun-clinging, religious person. See? It’s funny! That makes it A-OK according to the Liberal Fun-Loving Left. Let’s see if the skittish Liberal Left Hollywood Elite will take up the challenge. Hope! Change! Socialism!
Mike: I listen to Rush more than you probably think, and I sure wasn’t trying to paint everyone here with the same brush at all, but you have to admit there is way plenty of hate and bad wishes for Democrats in general and Obama in particular that goes unchallenged here everyday. I did say “some folks” because there are many perspectives here.
Some Folks who dish that out all the time and then get their panties in a bunch when the same type of things get said about their “team” are folks that you just have to consider the source, it hurts your credibility when you can dish it out but can’t take it. I’m not talking about just criticizing or protesting, and I’m not talking about just Conservatives, Libs are as bad or worse at times. But I’ll say it again, Rush walks on the fine edge with his comments quite often, and if he can dish it out, he can be a man and take it in stride. When you engage in combat, you just might get shot back at, and taking a “shot” at a “roast” event like the correspondent’s dinner is like getting shoot at by a nerf ball
As for the New yorker, if that cover ran with John and Cindy McCain instead of the Obamas, there would have been as bad or worse push back on it.
@mooseburger:
I admit it.
@mooseburger #2:
By “outrageous”, what do you mean? Positive? Negative?
I thought these types of events were supposed to be as much about roasting the man at the top and utilizing self-deprecating humor, as much as poking political fun at everyone (in good-natured zest, rather than serious political barbed low-blows).
I didn’t watch this Correspondents Dinner, so other than the teleprompter joke, I trust the rest of the jokes were in the spirit of good-natured ribbing and self-deprecation?
[*UPDATE EDIT* Ok, it appears that most of the Dinner jokes were consistent with the spirit of past Dinners]
Remember this:
Mike,
Wanda Sykes is a comedian… I think you were more offended than Rush. Rush is a Big Boy (in more ways than one) he can take it. He dishes it out rather well he should be able to take it.
Mooseburger has this totally correct.
I see in your response to Mooseburger you finally realized that Fox noise is a conspiracy so called news organization.
BTW just in case you are going to try to defend Fox Noise now… remember this??
ED Hill the news commentator from Fox Noise calling the fist bump a Terrorist Jab??
ED Hill ended up apologizing for saying it.
Should Wanda apologize for her comments about Rush? Not hardly. Wanda is not a news commentator pretending to be a journalist on a news program. She is comedian. Get over it!!!
re:Real American Patriot
“Real” American Patriot,
Wanda Sykes is a comedian(?)… Uh, sure….if you say so. How is it that previous iterations of this spent more time roasting the guest of honor, than say, his enemies? And Fox News is the only media outlet with a point of view? Paging Chris “Thrill Up the Leg, My Job is to Make Sure Obama Succeeds” Matthews. It amazes me how intolerant the Leftist Liberals are when it comes to whining about biases, and how blind they are to the enormous advantage Lefitst Liberals have in LameStream Media outlets. Let’s see…..Leftists Slanters = CNN, MSNBC, NY Times, ABC, CBS, NBC, Washington Post, Public Broadcasting, Mpls. Star\Tribune, National Public Radio, Chicago Tribune, LA Times….etc, etc. Of course I know that one of the huge blindspots Liberal Lefties have is the slanted coverage coming from these “news” organizations. In their eyes, they are considered mainstream, or even centerist in their political views, which shows how far Left they are. Considering how much Lefties love “speaking truth to power” and how “dissent is the ultimate patriotism”, I though they’d be OK with us voicing our displeasure with the Obamessiahs head-long rush to Socialism. Silly me…
@mooseburger: Mossy, I gave you a pass earlier thinking you might reflect on what you said and back away from the absurd comparison you raised.
Yet, you came back and said this: ” I sure wasn’t trying to paint everyone here with the same brush at all, but you have to admit there is way plenty of hate and bad wishes for Democrats in general and Obama in particular that goes unchallenged here everyday”
Perhaps you can point to the previous dinners during the Bush Administration where the same level of vitriol as Wand Sykes was on display.
How long should I expect to wait until you provide me the links/videos to that?
You suggest that the commenters here put out “way plenty of hate and bad wishes for Democrats in general and Obama. ” Have any of the commenters here been selected to appear as the highlight of one of these events?
And I’d be willing to bet that the comments from our readers are much tamer than the bile and hate STILL directed at Bush, Cheney, Rush by the kooks at Democrats Underground or Huffington Post.
Your lame attempt to point the finger back at the readers here is nothing more than an enabling act that gives Hollywood comedians and the haters in the Democrat Party free license to continue the unrelenting campaign of hate we have seen from the left for more than eight years.
I’d say you and CRAP should be ashamed of yourselves for the role you play in propagating the campaign of hate you people have launched but I realize how blind you are to your own responsibility in the matter.
RAP, Moose…do either one of you understand the term “Hate Speech” ?
That opens the door for a lot of things. It escalates.
I thought not. I found it offensive and in very poor taste. Idiots in my neck of the woods get their backsides kicked in for speaking about ANYONE in that fashion. It was a hatefest conducted by folks with either NO or Low Class.
The fact that the Pretender in Chief found it amusing is a poor reflection upon those that voted for him and an indication of his general lack of character. If You found it witty and amusing that reflects un-flattering on you. If this is the new standard for humor or entertainment amongst polite company then forget about culture. It resembled a ghetto street corner gathering more closely than a White House function or perhaps feeding time at the Zoo.
I found it very offensive and pretty demeaning. If that is Obama’s concept of dignity & decorum he will be lucky to complete one term.
Do either of you understand what happens when civility & good taste go away? When that happens you two would be living in fear because that means anything goes.
I’m sure you don’t want that. If you do want that I would feel sad about what could be possible.
Having deployed to places where anything goes, I’ve seen it first hand and you don’t want that. If America is Your Home, You don’t want to see that here. I can play that anything goes game. You would not like the results.
Civility was lacking.
Saturday night’s event was truly a new low.
The lines delivered by Sykes were crass and tasteless.
The groans and gasps from the audience make it obvious that the line was crossed. Repeatedly.
To those who wish to defend it by saying “Oh, it’s always like that” I challenge you to:
Show me another time in the history of this event where a former VP candidate and their child has been the target of jokes.
Show me another time in the history of this event where a private citizen has been singled out as being a possible terrorist.
Show me another time in the history of this event where kidney failure or some other medical malady was wished upon a private citizen.
Show me another time when the president laughed right along while that private citizen was being trashed.
Show me another time in the history of this event where it was OK to joke about 9/11. Even the White House is walking that one back today.
Show me another time in the history of this event where it was OK to joke about an event that terrified thousands of people and sent them fleeing into the streets.
Show me another time in the history of this event that those things happened.
Show me.
Truly classless behavior on display all around last night.
So classless that even the Brits are pointing it out.
Disgusting.
@mooseburger:
Actually, no I don’t have to admit that.
Very, very rarely do comments get posted here in which a political opponent is wished ill health or injury or death. However, when they do get posted, they seldom go without being immediately challenged by one of the authors or one of the regulars. In some cases, such comments are immediately removed, never to be seen again.
The Left, however, has an established routine by which it wishes health issues, and even death, on its’ political opponents. If you want examples, we can dredge them up for you.
Unless you can point to specific examples here on FA, then you need to apologize for your slur against this site and those of us who participate here.
@Real American Patriot:
Hey Bruce,
I’ve seen your pictures, you know the ones that you posted on those internet personals sites, and I hate to break it to you partner, but you are really in no position to be dissing someone based on personal appearance.
You may think that the pilot’s headset serves as a turn-on for the ladies but, in reality, all it does is make that bald, oversized noggin’ of yours that much more conspicuous.
Just sayin’
Mike and Old Trooper…
You really call this a campaign of Hate & Hate speech?? give me a break.. you both know better.
Most of the Hate I hear being thrown around comes from the righties themselves…
Do you ever watch that filth called Fox noise?? do you ever hear Hannity, Rush and Savage on the radio?? That’s hate speech at it’s finest!!!
Wordsmith:
The Colbert event was pretty funny, but positive or negative is hard to say when the sarcasm is so intense……I guess you could say both, but it was intense to the point of being uncomfortable at times.
Aye said: Very, very rarely do comments get posted here in which a political opponent is wished ill health or injury or death. However, when they do get posted, they seldom go without being immediately challenged by one of the authors or one of the regulars. Whoa, Whoa there man, I never said anything about “ill health or injury or death”, your jumpin’ the gun there and putting words in my mouth. Some of the comments at times are pretty hard core hate and accusation against Obama, and it is peoples opinions, That’s all. You decry the Libs and their tactics, (some of you) but you then become very sensitive all of a sudden when the same style Limbaugh uses is thrown back your direction. Not only that, but it was a “Roast” for gosh sake.
Mike: What did Sykes say that equated to torture as mentioned in the title of this post?
My only comment here is the hypocrisy of the left and the press. If it had been President Bush or any conservative sitting there laughing at their tasteless jokes about other celebrities, the press would have been all over it and accusing him of wishing someone dead. They would have pulled the “guilt by association” rule.
As far as blaming Obama for his reaction, I don’t. That is a very awkward situation to be in at these kind of events. How in the world would you handle it? Do you interrupt the comedian’s commentary with a protest about the appropriateness of these comments? These are very awkward situations. Obama strikes me as the sort of person who is not really socially comfortable with people and in situations. He comes across smooth (too smooth) as if it is an act but he doesn’t handle himself well. I think he really needs to get a book of etiquette out there. The proper thing for a president to do is not smile or laugh at these comments, look kind of disappointed. He would have set the tone and he would have had more credibility. Never laugh at the suggestion of someone being tortured or dying. It is really not funny no matter the circumstances. By doing that, he would have set the proper tone and he would have had cover later for when he would issue a statement that he doesn’t share the comedians views and he thought the joke was in poor taste.
As far as Rush Limbaugh is concerned, he makes his living as a radio talk show host. He can dish it out as well as take it. He is probably doing an air commercial to the effect and raking in some more advertising dollars for this. The left just never learns.
Tammy
Hey you guys should write a code of conduct and draw the line as to what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in terms of humour or political jibes.
Examples…
Is it okay to joke about or attack a politician’s or political commentator’s family – particularly their children.
Is it okay to joke about or comment that you would like to see physical harm done to a politician or political commentator’s etc.
Then we shall see who crosses the line in terms of ‘hate speech’ most often in the media and on here.
The right & left are both guilty on this.
Real American Patriot:
Get off it Bud. Don’t ever post here again about a “moral issue” of your perception or choosing. It was Hate Speech, uncivil and your apparent lack of judgement is appalling. It was a Hatefest produced by the Ivy League Affirmative Action Ghetto Punks and their America Hating Socialist crew in full blossom attended by the bootlicking media. If you were not so blinded by partisan bias it may have offended you. You can’t put a happy face on that event. If Fox News tests your tolerance, grow up fool.
An Education is wasted on some folks that were never taught any manners. It was Hate Speech that goes along with the Class Warfare that you have failed to notice as well.
Forget about Hate Crimes or Hate Speech legislation after this spectacle. An example was set.
To be quite frank with you, the event reminded me of a street corner scene in Haiti after food rations were handed out and bottles of cheap wine were passed around before a cockfight. I deployed there to keep Order many moons ago. It is still a hellhole with a slightly lower moral standard than DC.
CRAP, you are a subhuman piece of garbage. I hope your heart fails.
JUST KIDDING!!!!
Nope, you can’t be mad at me or be offended. I was only kidding.
It’s a double standard. Admit it.
Hey at least your library card is safe …. But now your life, not so much so. Good trade.
BTW Old Trooper you are too funny!!! you make me laugh!!!
Aqua there is so much hate speech from the right it’s outrageous and you know it…
here is a couple of samplings from Savage… copied from the Media Matters web site.
Savage: “Kenya is going to move to America if Barack Hussein Obama wins”
During the October 10 broadcast of his radio show, Savage baselessly accused Obama of running a “corrupt campaign,” suggested that white liberals “hate white people,” repeated the discredited charge that Obama “won’t produce his birth certificate,” and asserted “Kenya is going to move to America” if Obama wins the election.
Savage said: “Now, you want me to tell you my opinion on autism, since I’m not talking about autism? A fraud, a racket. … You know what autism is? I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is.”
Perhaps you’ll point out where conservatives have joked in a prominent public forum (like this press club gathering) about wishing for the demise of those with political views they don’t like, CRAP. Or do you confuse legitimate complaints about Obama’s policies, his lack of transparency on his birth certificate lawsuits, and his mysterious campaign contribution records with “hate” speech?
Even the remarks from the no-holds-barred Michael Savage do not constitute “hate speech” such as Sykes did. The choice of the Zero’s handlers for who to emcee this event shows good judgment by Obama or his chosen disciples is distinctly absent.
His 72 day joke was rather odd, so, he is talking of “resting” on the 73rd day, end of August, just when the King of Jordan has promised an all out Arab war on Israel if they don’t get their way.
This all sounds more like some sort of sick Taleban joke…
Phony American Patriot, all things considered You are a pretty sick pup. I made my points and have better things to do than to respond to any more of your juvenile tripe.
A lesson I learned early on in my life was never to argue with a fool…
Yup… definitely a “fool”, Trooper. Both Aqua and I have asked for specifics on his accusation of hate speech from the right, and all we get is a “it’s outrageous and you know it”.
Typical brain dead voter…. all mouth and emotion, and no comprehension and facts.
@mooseburger:
Straw. Man.
Limbaugh has never once wished physical harm or death on a political opponent.
Limbaugh engages on the issues and the policies, not on a personal, hurtful level.
In fact, you’ll be hard pressed to find a politician or prominent member of the right who has engaged in anything even remotely similar to what went on Saturday night.
You’re right. It was a “roast” type dinner.
The tradition of this event, and “roasts” in general, is that the guest of honor, the president, is the subject of the majority of the humor, whether by the other guests, or of the self-deprecating variety.
Feel free to provide examples of past events in this series which have produced jokes about one’s political opponent having kidney failure or some other acute medical condition.
Feel free to provide examples of past events in this series which have produced jokes about the day that 3,000 plus of our fellow citizens were murdered.
Perhaps you can find us some side splittingly funny one liners about Pearl Harbor.
Feel free to do that for us.
Saturday night’s event wasn’t funny.
It was crude and tasteless.
Your blatant attempt to excuse the inexcusable speaks volumes.
@Real American Patriot:
Oh, so there are a few tufts of hair hiding underneath the headset and perhaps ’round back then?
Good.
Maybe Slo’ Joe’ Biden can give you the name and number of the doc that did his plugs for him.
‘Til then, you better keep the sunscreen handy.
Sorry to butt in, but the entertainer for the WHCA is not chosen by the President or his “handlers”; rather, the complete opposite:
So Sykes has some schlocky jokes and one that’s racy. If you watch the video, Obama is so clearly uncomfortable at this that Sykes even jokes about it – “Too much? I know you’re laughing on the inside though”. I guess there wasn’t any mustard at the dinner, so this has become today’s thing and your justification is that the left does the same. To your point, AC, Bush did joke about dead Americans when he made that “where are the WMD’s” video; (as a side note, I thought it was quite humorous) but you can see how people could interpret this as a joke at the expense of those serving and dying in Iraq. Sure, the Kos Kids and such yelled their teeth out in response, but are you guys really just striving to be the conservative mirror of dKos?
Triz, I stand corrected. Thank you for the WHCA heads up. Per it’s history, it now stands independent of the WH, and of the White House credentialing process. Altho I do note that President’s have put their own caveats down in the past as a prerequisite to attending.
But I actually agree… I don’t think Obama’s was overly pleased at the emcee’s behavior. So I didn’t hold him personally responsible, but did put responsibility on those I believe over which he had a modicum of control.
Bush’s WMD video was not a joke about dead Americans. It was a joke on himself, at the media complaining he hadn’t found them yet. Nothing to do with our US casualties. And shame on your for misportraying a man cares very deeply about our military by calling that an insult to our soldiers. I am hoping that Obama, after more exposure, will start to feel the same.
But yes… I found that one mildly amusing, but certainly not one of his best. Bush really shined when he laid it on about his bud, Cheney. See some of his correspondence dinner moments… I think you will see a completely different ambiance.
For the libtards among us who insist that we “righties” are just as bad, I want to draw your attention to this comment I made in regard to the post about a joke CBS’s Golf Analyst said about our troops shooting Nancy Pelosi:
The guy who wrote that original article was wrong to do so just as Sykes is wrong now. Interesting that the libs who were all hot and bothered about the Pelosi thing are cheering Sykes.
Hypocrisy, thy name is libtard!
@mooseburger: The “torture” is a reference to waterboarding Rush Limbaugh. Since you libtards believe waterboarding is torture, Sykes was making a very nasty statement about torturing Limbaugh.
I do not believe that waterboarding JUST THREE TERRORISTS to save thousands of American lives was torture. What is torture is having to explain such simple concepts to people like you who would rather be dead apparently than waterboard Mohammed.
Well OLD Tropper and Mata…
Were the Michael Savage QUOTES not good enough for you??????
Sorry but what Savage said was spoken seriously during one of his hate filled radio broadcasts and what Sykes said was said as part of a COMEDIANS ROUTINE!
That point seems to have been lost on all of the righties in this string!!!!
The only thing you have proven in this string is you righties is YOU have no sense of humor!
BTW, CRAP… I have an excellent sense of humor, and is one of my best traits. I should think the fact I suffer you with so little chagrin is proof of that here.
@trizzlor.myopenid.com: You’re comparing Flopping Aces to Kos? You really have no shame do you?
Should we drag up all the instances of where Kos and Huffpo have wished Dick Cheney dead? How about the asswipes that cheered when Tony Snow died?
Do you see ANYTHING on these pages that is the equivalent of that?
I just got done linking to my condemnation of the Pelosi joke. I’ll give you some time to soak that in and perhaps you’ll gain some needed perspective.
@Real American Patriot: Did I miss Savage when he did the standup routine at one of these dinners?
I’m not a fan of Savage and you won’t find me defending him. But you also do NOT HAVE A POINT!
Savage, eh? Let’s revamp and parse, shall we?
“Kenya is going to move to America if Barack Hussein Obama wins”
says Obama ran a corrupt campaign
won’t produce his birth certificate
suggested that white liberals… constantly accusing any white voter of not supporting Obama because they were “racist”… “hate white people”…
So where’s the hate speech, CRAP?
Kenya was big supporters of their grandson. Where’s the hate? Also, no personal individual named.
Obama’s campaign has questionable donations, and utilized class warfare to rile his base. Where’s the hate but what Obama incited for the underclass for the higher classes?
Savage saying white liberals (no one specific named) hate white people because the media was filled daily with those accusing McCain supporters as being racist. Sounds like an explanation to me. You might want to ask those liberals accusing anti-Obama voters about their hate speech.
As I said, you consider responding to campaign issues and media accusations as “hate speech”. Technically, that makes you a bigot. None of Savages comments compares with jokingly wishing for illness or death for a particular person who isn’t even an elected office… merely because they disagree.
You are, and remain, a blithering idiot with limited comprehension of language and issues.
Gaffa… still suffering from the “Queen’s English” translation problems, I see. What goes on in the masses for their back and forths (as you see especially on Daily KOs and Huffpo), has less to do with the issue of politically correct “entertainment” than when it’s done at an event put on BY the POTUS and White House. The very event sanctioned her behavior and tasteless remarks at an officially sponsored WH function. It was bad judgment by Obama and his staff to use Sykes.
I will wager that Obama is regretting the choice of his party planners, and their judgment of an emcee. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt, and think he was caught by surprise by her shock jock and OT diatribe.
Perhaps he needs to exercise better judgment in his party planners, as he should with his diplomatic advisors on protocol.
@GaffaUK: Perhaps you would like to provide some examples of where those on the right have attacked Obama’s children.
I can dig up dozens of examples of where Sarah Palin’s children were dragged through the mud.
Why is it that the left always goes out and pulls this crap then when criticized about it makes some lame claim that we do the same thing?
@MataHarley: Glad we could agree. I don’t want to get too much into the WMD joke considering I thought it was pretty funny (my favorite sketch was probably the Bush + internal Bush impersonator), but it’s not a stretch to interpret it as tastelessly mocking the fact that the initial justification for war fell through and that Bush doesn’t much care. If you assume Bush is classless then it’s salt in the wound, otherwise it’s just a self-deprecating jab – I guess that’s politics.
@Mike
Howabout Chelsea for a start…
I don’t know if the right has attacked Obama kids yet. Hopefully not. I’ll have a look later…
@GaffaUK: Sigh….
Folks, as the lefturds are showing, they believe the rules don’t aply to tem. Attempts to do so will be met with phony clamis of equivlence. In all fairness, delusional larry probably believes the BS he posed. Moosebrain, unfit, and CRAP don’t, but don’t care as long a they oppress the oppositon and maintain power.
BTW lefturds, my post was an example of exactly what your kind has been doing for some time.
Leftist=hypocrite
Gaffa, that has been explained here before. I have a hard time believing you don’t know about it.
That was an error that he apolgized for. The order of the pics were mixed up and it WAS NOT a deliberate act. BTW, mother jones is hardly a credible source. I’m not surprised you tried to us them though.
Like I said, Rush walks a fine line, some interpret what Sykes said as wishing death, when, in fact, while in very poor taste, kidney failure does not equal death (Dialysis) and so there is a fine line again, Riots can cause death, but Rush said he was only dreaming about riots, so, while a happy fantasy for him to relate to his millions of listeners, it falls just a hair short of using his clout to promote riots, just have happiness if they do happen because it would be great for Republicans.
Both Limbaugh and his dream for riots and Sykes and her wish for kidney failure are people who have their critics and defenders. Both are on the edge and go too far sometimes. Both like the attention and make more money when they are controversial. Both promote phony outrage from their detractors. It’s like a game of Tag, and right now, the Conservatives are “it” until it’s the Libs turn again.
Moose, I’m a regular listener to Rush. Pray tell provide any single quote where he wishes for riots. You will find all his shows archived at his site. Have at it…. we’ll wait for you.
And CRAP, if you did any listening to Savage, of which I’ve listened off and on since his rise in SF in the late 90s, you’d know that he has a nutritional degree and background, and is very involved in critiques on our government over medicating and misdiagnosing American children. This was part of a segment making just that point… that it was easier to drug the kids and diagnose them with some illness than actually cope with the responsibilities of parenthood. He is not… nor has ever been… unsympathetic to genuinely afflicted children. But since you live by leftist soundbyte alone, and never take in the full story, you’d never know.
Mata…
Maybe you should read that post again… read the part about what he said about autistic children..
Savage said: “Now, you want me to tell you my opinion on autism, since I’m not talking about autism? A fraud, a racket. … You know what autism is? I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is.”
If that isn’t hate speech what is???
Apparently you are the blithering idiot here…
Nice try Moosebrain, but strike one. I saw everything Rush said and it was hardly hate speech. It was humorous. That’s also why you didn’t post a link. Watching you and CRAP lie and spin to justify the hate people like you spew is actually amusing.
This is too funny. All the leftists are doing is showing what intolerant hypocrites they are.
The “examples” they cite are not only anything but an example, it’s proof of how horrible by comparison Wanda’s despicible comments were.
To paraphrase the saying–stop digging lefties.
@MataHarley: Savage is a fascinating character; used to hang out with Ginsberg and the Beats and then did a complete 360 in philosophy. I used to listen to him quite regularly trying to comprehend how, in the span of an hour, one person could go from truly interesting discussions on history and culture, to quasi-supremacist statements about how the proud white race is dying, to bizzare paranoia about gays and the “pink hand” like the following:
That’s the one he was fired for from MSNBC of all places.
And what did the caller say to Savage,
Gaffa?… oops, Triz (sorry, Gaffa)Now trust me, I don’t want to be in the position of defending everything about Savage, since I probably disagree more than half the time with him… or at the very least, the way he puts things. One of the places I agree is with his stance on drugging American children. A subject hear and dear to my heart.
And I agree… he’s an intelligent man, well schooled in many subjects. But he’s also a talk show host who, like Obama (in a more politically correct way) with his O’faithful, delights in getting his following all hot and bothered. I don’t see much difference in Obama’s carefully parsed language, inciting class warfare. He’s just a slicker, greasier version of Savage who accomplishes the same with with honey’d tongue and more high brow language.
As far as the gays, Savage doesn’t care what anyone does in their bedrooms, and says so quite often. But he, like me and many others, don’t care to have it shoved in our face every given minute. And the segments you quote are when they call in and do just that. Perhaps his screeners look for those for shock talk jock effect… who knows. So he calls them sodomites. I guess that can only be construed as an insult if you don’t indulge, and don’t care to indulge. Otherwise, it’s a common term for a sexual act. But it’s somewhat one sided to quote only what he responds to a caller without citing what the caller said as well.
What you forget is that Savage is an independent, and has spent eight years bashing Bush and the conservatives as often, and with the same intensity, as he does the liberal left. His venom knows no boundaries. So if you’re wanting to place Savage on conservatives’ side, you’d better try again. He’s an equal opportunity debaser.
@GaffaUK: The fact that you had to go back to something 14 years ago says something don’t you think?
Are you just trying to enable more slime from the Democrats? If so, why bother. They don’t seem to need much encouragement.
You swallowed every smear against Sarah Palin as if it was a fact. It’s pretty sad that you haven’t learned your lesson.
@mooseburger: So you have officially joined Gaffa in the enabler lobby. Big surprise.
And if waterboarding is such a crime that the left would prosecute Bush for it then why do you think it’s excusable to suggest it be done to Rush Limbaugh? I thought you people were opposed to “torture?”
@Real American Patriot: So, CRAP…. remind me again when Savage was the host at one of these dinners?
Or do you not understand the relevance of the question?
@ Trizzlor: Same question as the above to CRAP.
@Mike’s America: Take it as you will, but I’m staying out of this debate on who dishes out more crap; no side has a monopoly on hate and a loud hateful spokesperson doesn’t discount the philosophy he claims to support. I’m rarely in the mood for “what if the other side had done it” flame wars, my comment on Savage was just that – an interesting observation.
Mike, Rush never insulted Chelsea. IIRC, going by his script the picture of Lucky was supposed to come up, not Chelsea. From the transcripts I saw he apologized within a few seconds or minutes of for the error and explained what had happened. The lying left tried to pretend this was an attack on Chelsea. It’s an excuse they use to justify their attacks on the Bush kids. Even if it hadn’t happened they would have done so, but you know that.
@Mike’s America: Sorry for the double post, but I just noticed your comment regarding FA and Kos. I certainly hold FA in higher regard than Kos, which is why I read and post at one and avoid the other. However, I do see a lot of these discussions as a way to get back at the other side for reprehensible behavior in the past – my point is that two wrongs make a stupid.
@MataHarley: Is the Gaffa thing meant to be a sock-puppet joke, or are you just drowning in the libtard? I can’t find any more context to the quote than the following:
EDIT: Actually, here’s the video, Savage just goes off.
The offensive part isn’t regarding “sodomites” (which the caller willfully agrees to) but that little bit about getting AIDS and choking on a sausage.
Naw, Triz… not a sock-puppet joke. Just a brain fart… LOL Corrected it after the fact with a strike out, as you can see.
Care to go back a bit further in the conversation than the question? Oh… that’s right… it’s all that was provided in your source. How convenient for them. So aren’t you even curious what lead up to the question?
Double posting myself here, Triz… with additional info for you about what you don’t know. You might start with East Coast Bob’s own website where he was living high off the hog with kudos for getting Savage fired. East Coast Bob, you see, is known as somewhat of a radio (and now TV) show prankster and pulls these stunts with some regularity.
Does this make Savage’s response okay? Nope… as a host on cable TV, he should certainly have maintained control. But then, that’s not what Savage’s audiences love him for. (frankly, he’s not a prime time host candidate…)
However I think you’ll find East Coast Bob wasn’t some innocent gay man, taken advantage of by Savage. He called to deliberately insult and goad Savage personally (something about insulting him about his appearance and his teeth). From reading thru his stuff, he doesn’t sound like a man who deserves my sympathy or compassion. He wears this prank as a badge.
BTW… Ed Schultz, Al Franken, Janeane Garofolo and that complete whiny, lying loser, Randi Rhodes (faking a street attack when she just fell on her duff…), are just as offensive as Savage. And while Savage is NOT a Republican or conservative, they are most definitely rapt, prozac’ed out members of the O’faithful. So I suggest you naysayers start making your excuses for them.
Found a video of it here. I really don’t understand the context at all (the caller says something about Savage’s teeth?) but it seems like Savage just overreacts as usual.
