Holy christ the nuts in the left are out in force salivating at the gossip that Rove was the leak that outed Valerie Plame:
July 11 issue – Its legal appeals exhausted, Time magazine agreed last week to turn over reporter Matthew Cooper’s e-mails and computer notes to a special prosecutor investigating the leak of an undercover CIA agent’s identity.

At issue is the story of a CIA-sponsored trip taken by former ambassador (and White House critic) Joseph Wilson to investigate reports that Iraq was seeking to buy uranium from the African country of Niger. “Some government officials have noted to Time in interviews… that Wilson’s wife, Valerie Plame, is a CIA official who monitors the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction,” said Cooper’s July 2003 Time online article.
Now the story may be about to take another turn. The e-mails surrendered by Time Inc., which are largely between Cooper and his editors, show that one of Cooper’s sources was White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove, according to two lawyers who asked not to be identified because they are representing witnesses sympathetic to the White House. Cooper and a Time spokeswoman declined to comment. But in an interview with NEWSWEEK, Rove’s lawyer, Robert Luskin, confirmed that Rove had been interviewed by Cooper for the article. It is unclear, however, what passed between Cooper and Rove.
Now from that we can gleen that the writer is unclear about what role Rove had in this….but wait, Mr. Bulging Veins himself
Lawrence O’Donnell (from the swift vet interview fame) is telling everyone who will listen that Rove was the source of the leak:
I revealed in yesterday’s taping of the McLaughlin Group that Time magazine’s emails will reveal that Karl Rove was Matt Cooper’s source. I have known this for months but didn’t want to say it at a time that would risk me getting dragged into the grand jury.
McLaughlin is seen in some markets on Friday night, so some websites have picked it up, including Drudge, but I don’t expect it to have much impact because McLaughlin is not considered a news show and it will be pre-empted in the big markets on Sunday because of tennis.
Since I revealed the big scoop, I have had it reconfirmed by yet another highly authoritative source. Too many people know this. It should break wide open this week. I know Newsweek is working on an ‘It’s Rove!’ story and will probably break it tomorrow.
Uh oh! The Zarqawicrats have found out! First they get the Downing Street Memos and now they have the goods on Rove. But we can kill it since Bushco controls all the media and will assassinate anyone who runs the story.
Anyways….I call bullshit.

Which says the source is someone at the CIA. I’m pretty certain this will be a huge non-story but the left will whoop it up as much as they can. Rove has testified to the grand jury that he was not the source. Novak has testified and said publicly that the White House was not the source of the leaked material. So where is the scoop? The left is wrong again and they have no problem with being wrong, since that is why they are leftists. The seriousness of the charges is much more important than their accuracy to Leftists.
If they are wrong about Rove, it wont matter that O’Donnel was wrong because he was saying something negative about a conservative….that will make him seem like a hero to the left. Plus they will never admit they were wrong, its the BushRoveHalliburton connection I tell ya.
Lets see, why don’t we take a look at the recent past:
- Bush is gonna be impeached over the Downing Street Memo.
- Cheney’s is gonna be impeached over Halliburton.
- Rumsfield gonna be impeached over Gitmo and Abu Gharib.
- Rove’s gonna be impeached over the Plame leak.
- DeLay’s gonna be impeached over his travel expenses getting picked up by lobbyists.
Sound about right? They can care less about the truth to these accusations since its getting the lie out there that matters….it will stick in the mind of the Zarqawicrats long enough until their next dose of schizophrenia meds.
But lets say for one second that it was Rove (it wont be), he will be fired for sure. The Captain believes he probably wont be prosecuted. But how bad of an act was this? Was it as bad as stuffing official government documents in your pants at the National Archive? As bad as leaving a young woman to drown in your car….. then lying and trying to cover it up?
I’ll close this with an interesting observation from a commenter on LGF:
Plame’s husband Joseph Wilson, an ex-ambassador and like Plame a member of the Democratic Party, was supposedly recommended to CIA by Plame to travel to Niger to investigate the legitimacy of reports that Iraq had attempted to obtain uranium there.
(Try for a moment to imagine a covert CIA operative recommending that her husband, a former Clinton administration official, go investigate the uranium to Iraq story in Niger. Doesn’t anything not sound right about that?)
Wilson travels to Niger, supposedly at the request of CIA, and subsequently reports that the administration ignored his findings that the information was phony. Days after Wilson’s letter to the New York Times is published, supposedly members of the Bush administration leaked Plame’s name as an undercover CIA operative, purportedly to “get back” at Wilson for his letter to NYT.
Note that Plame contributed $1,000 to the campaign of Al Gore, and listed her business as Brewster Jennings & Associates. No current or former tenants of that building are aware of any Brewster Jennings & Associates ever being housed in that building. What the hell kind of cover is that for a covert CIA operative?
That company eventually merged with what is now Exxon, but doesn’t exist today. An heir and namesake of Brewster Jennings is a real estate investor, also named Brewster Jennings, in Durango, Colorado, and finds the whole cover story to be quite amusing.
This is just too squirrelly to believe.
My guess is that the assertion that Valerie Plame was a covert CIA operative is probably highly exaggerated, that the entire story is made of whole fabric, that Robert Novak was suckered into taking a phony leak and running with it.
There’s another story behind this for sure. This was and is intended to be a huge scandal on the order of the TANG memo, and is another demonstration of the utter amorality of that party and the incredible incompetence of their political operatives.
But what exactly IS that story they are trying to hide? What’s behind the facade, who IS that man behind the curtain?
