Great finds, Curt.
Yes, that ”pie” does NOT stay the same size through time.
I and my husband were ”poor,” during the Carter years.
We took out student grants (which we paid back later) as well as Food Stamps for a short time.
I worked up stats for a history professor, hubby worked as a picker (or stacker) at Levitz Furniture, running a forklift all day.
But EVERYBODY we knew then as ”poor” (including the hippy who started the recycling center on campus) moved up, some way up the economic ladder over the years.
That hippy never cut his hair but he did become a millionaire!
Today’s ”poor” in the USA would rank as rich in many of the world’s countries.
The vast majority of them have
refrigerators,
dependable electricity,
cars,
stereos,
TVs,
Computers,
phones of all sorts.
free education to age 16,
and lots more.
I met a Jehovah’s Witness yesterday.
(Yeah he came to the door.)
But I could see he was likely Egyptian, then, when he said his name was Farouk, it confirmed he was.
So I asked him about how Christians live in Egypt.
They don’t have any of the things listed above, as a rule.
Add to that, they are targeted by Muslim Egyptians in a bid to de-Christianize the country.
They are denied medical care unless it is their own hospitals/clinics.
They are denied public education.
They are denied work permits.
They are also preyed upon by horny un-marriageble Muslims seeking wives.
Their teenage girls are regularly kidnapped, imprisoned raped, and starved until they are married, converted and pregnant.
The Muslim police offer NO PROTECTION nor even cooperation to them whatsoever.
That’s what ”poor” is like.

There is a vast gulf between the Anarchists of OWS and the TEA Party- just for starters, the Tea Party leaves a place cleaner than when they got there. We also don’t defecate in the streets, or urinate against a police car- they do, we have the gun camera film.
But that’s just the grimy surface of their major malfunction- they actually believe that they are entitled to the money of others- obviously their teachers and parents didn’t teach them just what this country was all about.
People in this country have the right to have the opportunity to succeed, not the right to succeed- there’s an important difference, one they should have been taught long ago.
If someone makes an obscene amount of money, oh well- that’s the American Dream. He or she is then free to spend or give away as much or as little money as they want.
If you , on the other hand, didn’t make an obscene amount of money, either you made bad choices in your life, or money was not your primary objective in life.
I have been a carpenter for forty years- and I knew when I began that I was not going to make scads of money, but I loved what I did, and I am very good at it. Now, there’s not so much work, and even less so for a 60 year old carpenter with arthritis, but I am not going to whine about it like some entitled brats on the streets do. No, I’ll pick myself up, and make do with something else, at least until our Dear Leader gets his head outta his ass, or is voted out.
As for the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters, they can keep wallowing in their filth, or recognize that what they are doing is not working, and perhaps they should get a job, any job.
After all, the world needs janitors too.

Check out this link from the Chicago protest. There can no longer be any doubt as to what this group stands for. Now that the dems have committed themselves by endorsing them, they will have to answer. Just think, the Democratic Party, the Communist Party, Michael Moore, Van Jones, and the unions all working together combined with public support from abroad from Iran and Hugo Chavez, to make a better America.

There is so much whipping up the rabble about this ”movement” that it leads my to think about the charismatics in Islam who do the same thing (hiding their own klepocracy by blaming the double scapegoats of the USA – the ”great Satan and Israel – the lesser Satan).
So, what’s going on that Obama wants kept off the front page?
SOUTH BEND – Minus suspected fakes, then Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama likely fell short of the number of signatures needed to appear on the 2008 Indiana primary ballot….

Then sell my new car, take my front door key away from me, and throw me out of the house.” Then disown me and never talk to me again. Well, she didn’t put it quite like that.. she actually said… “Dad I have decided to work for Obama’s reelection campaign.”
Obama authorized the deployment to Uganda of approximately 100 combat-equipped U.S. forces to help regional forces “remove from the battlefield” – meaning capture or kill – Lord’s Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony and senior leaders of the LRA.
Obama made this announcement in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Friday afternoon, saying that “deploying these U.S. Armed Forces furthers U.S. national security interests and foreign policy and will be a significant contribution toward counter-LRA efforts in central Africa.”

Obama sinks to a new low!
IF you clicked the link it takes you to Obama’s web site where you can buy the beer cooler for ”only” $10 bucks!
Can you make out the note on the bottom of the beer cooler?
It says: WORKERS UNITED
Workers United, SEIU is a union of 150,000 workers in the US and Canada who work in the laundry, food service, hospitality, gaming, apparel, textile, manufacturing and distribution industries. Workers United is a new union with a 100 year heritage, and includes members from predecessor unions like the ILGWU, ACTWU, UNITE and UNITE HERE.
I wonder if the idiot who ”Tweets” in Obama’s name will be fired over this?
My guess is no.
Have you noticed how the grass roots Tea Party assemblies rapidly vanished as the Tea Party banner was appropriated by the far right wing of the GOP?
The Wall Street protesters and the 99 percenters may now represent the issues closest to hearts of mainstream Americans.
What attitudes and policies have the republicans turned the Tea Party label into a symbol of? One has only to listen closely to their stated intentions, and to look closely at the bills that have been passed in the House since the new republican majority was seated. Basically, this is the stuff of an extreme right wing agenda. It’s a weird amalgam of the social agenda of the religious right and the economic and tax agenda of the very wealthy.
Americans need only ask themselves exactly how their own lives and futures would change if all of the things republicans are currently proposing became reality. Would the vast majority of working people, the middle class, the young, and the elderly be better off or worse off?

What was wrong with this picture?
Workers pay in $100 a MONTH (or LESS).
(Even a 40-year career only nets the program $48,000)
Anyone who becomes disabled can draw out $50 a DAY for LIFE!
(That $40,000 only nets a disabled person 960 DAYS! Less than 2 years and 7 months!)
Yeah, it was in those 2,000 plus UNREAD pages of ObamaCare.
It was called CLASS, or the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports program.
Sort of reminds me of Solyndra.
Anyway, although there is an UNSEVERABILITY clause in ObamaCare that prevents this act, today Obama pulled the plug on CLASS.
I have a great idea. Law enforcement likes to employ “civil forfeiture” on crack houses, drug-running airplanes, and even motels where pushers and hookers hang out. Since the OWS protesters in Zucotti Park are doing drugs, causing a public nuisance, creating a health hazard by defecating and urinating all over the place, and consuming a huge amount of law enforcement resources, why not just civilly confiscate Zucotti Park?

Do you folks see the article about 2 Occupy Boston cowards spitting on a female nco of the Massatchusetts branch of the Coast Guard. I wish I could have been there.
As far as large public demonstrations, the TEA party phenomenon last peaked in 2010, and will no doubt do so again, even more so, in 2012. You know — election years, genius, when the greatest change can be effected. The GOP establishment has not coopted anything, but they will definitely endeavor to ignore this grass roots movement as much as they dare. They are as much the enemy as the left wing of the Democratic party. We will be back to remind the GOP of their responsibilities increasingly as the next election approaches, and hopefully replace them with actual small government conservatives over time.
Most of the people who attend these TEA party type things have jobs and families, and they all pay their own way to the rallies, Greg. They provide their own signs, food, housing, and transportation. They are not subsidized like the astroturfed union rallies, and are not interested in pursuing a happening outdoor existence in their own fecal matter as a long-term lifestyle like the Occupy people. They want the government to quit taking so much money from them, and to stop spending so much money, and to stop borrowing so much money. This is the exact opposite of your side, which wants the government to spend more money on them and go into more debt if necessary to provide the funds.
By your own words, Obama, the Democrats, the unions, and Occupy are very much your side.

A hundred troops to Central Africa to exert a presence and to keep from being slaughtered.
Last summer I said to watch for Obama to start new wars out of desperation because of the election.
Somalia was a horrible situation and now we are sending in a hundred troops to confront some of the most evil people on the face of the earth, without consulting congress. There is no strategic American interests involved, but there are humanitarian considerations, but this has been going on for some time and there is no need to rush in because one man thinks we should. Where is the mission purpose? What are they supposed to do, what can they accomplish covering several countries with one hundred men?
I smell another war in the making, where are all those war protesters?
Our Republican leaders won’t challenge Obama on this or even raise questions. I will raise questions, but my keyboard might as well be a fart in typhoon. Although, I won’t quit. What the Hell is going on with this Friday afternoon document dump and golf on Saturday? Is he sending our trios to be butchered to make himself appear critical to the new war and finding a peace to the war he is creating.

Hey Greg, unlike parasites like you the Tea Party people have jobs and have to work.
@Greg: Where have all the Tea Party protesters gone?
Have you noticed how the grass roots Tea Party assemblies rapidly vanished as the Tea Party banner was appropriated by the far right wing of the GOP?
The Wall Street protesters and the 99 percenters may now represent the issues closest to hearts of mainstream Americans.
Oh for heavens sake, Greg… don’t you think it’s a bit early to be calling the game?
They first came together for rallies against the ARRA in Feb 2009. They grew and became more active to effect both O’healthcare and the midterms. Unlike your union/socialist/thug pals, who more closely resemble the WTO Seattle anarchists, the TP’ers generally have a specific target and reason for rallies. Not so for the general whiners in this group. Hang, even their “leaders” can’t even articulate what they want.
Since there isn’t anything as specific as ARRA and O’healthcare on the ballot, and the GOP plus more than a few Dems are not jumping on Obama’s fake jobs bandwagon, there is little reason for them to be so upfront. As HR notes, most are the working force and do not have the luxury to play camp out at Woodstock.
There is another good reason why the TP shouldn’t be wasting their time. I’m sure you desperately want them to attempt to suck the air out of your buds’ party, but frankly most of us aren’t that stupid. If there’s one thing most conservatives with common sense know, it’s when to feed you the length of rope you want when you’re in the process of hanging yourself. Have at it… it’ll be entertaining for now.
It will be considerably less entertaining as they move further into the attempts at violence, hoping to get a reaction and play the consummate victim. And it’s a long way before the 2012 election.
So I suggest you cool your jets. I’m sure you’ll hear plenty from the TP in the future. They just aren’t wasting their time now while the circus is in town.
Dang, Wm T… shoulda just let you take care of Greg in just a simple ten word quote. Probably more effective for those with short attention spans… LOL

There were literally 100 times as many people at TEA party rallies compared to OWS, but with one tenth the mainstream media coverage and absolutely none of the slobbering approval.
@MataHarley: Mata, the Tea Party is quite active here in Colorado. They do not need to rally. They are busy volunteering on training precinct officers and soliciting funds to elect local and state candidates. You are right. They conserve their energy and quietly promote the conservative message. The tea Party people have joined other activist groups that publish on line and in other media information concerning specific legislative issues. I get emails several times a week from some of the Tea Party organizations that provide insight to me of various activities and bills. The Tea Party is far from dead. Anyone who believes that will likely lose the next election. (Unless they get a flock of illegal aliens or dead people.)
