The Chris Christie Candidacy?

Is he running or isn’t he? A NY Post article today suggests he may be leaning towards running:

After months of hedging, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is giving serious thought to jumping into the ring for a GOP presidential run — and could make his decision next week, The Post has learned.

The announcement may come as soon as Monday, said sources familiar with Christie’s thinking.

The renewed consideration about a White House run came after prodding this week from some Republicans he idolizes, including former First Lady Nancy Reagan, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and former President George W. Bush, sources said.

“It’s more than just flattering,” a source close to Christie said, adding they helped convince Christie that he not only could win, but that he has what it takes to be president.

…Christie pals said the pol’s “mind-blowing” experience at the Reagan library in California Tuesday changed his thinking.

He has forcefully and bluntly said no many times, but if Nancy Reagan, Kissinger, and Bush tell you to run….maybe you should. I know the rest of the party is waiting for the decision:

“Chris Christie has, essentially, frozen the race. The most important Republican moneymen in the country, Paul Singer and David Koch, are waiting on him, as are any number of donors and elected officials. This makes it much harder for Romney to consolidate his advantage on Perry. It also makes it harder for Perry to expand his circle of support.

“And so we’re all pretty much waiting for Chris Christie’s inner guidance.”

The speech was fantastic though. It was uplifting, appealed to the true American spirit (not the Socialist dream that Obama and company try to sell), while at the same time calling out Jimmy Carter…uh, Barack Obama, for the way he has divided this nation into the haves and have-nots:

“Telling those who are scared and struggling that the only way their lives can get better is to diminish the success of others . . . trying to cynically convince those who are suffering that the American economic pie is no longer a growing one . . . insisting that we must tax and take and demonize those who have already achieved the American dream . . . is a demoralizing message for America.”

It was a perfect speech for the Reagan library and I would love for the guy to get in…but would I vote for him? Hmmmmm:

New Jersey’s top federal prosecutor told a Latino group it’s a civil offense – not a crime – for immigrants to live in the country without proper documentation, a comment that a spokesman later said was aimed at a narrowly worded question.

…”Don’t let people make you believe that that’s a crime that the U.S. attorney’s office should be doing something about,” Christie was quoted as saying in The Star-Ledger of Newark for Monday editions. “It is not.”

Then there is his view of man-made global warming, on gun control.

He’s not perfect, but no one candidate is to all people. But a major plus in my book is the fact that appears to be a straight shooter who is not afraid to upset the applecart, which is one reason I like Palin so much. So I guess the question is would I support him over Obama? Uh, I would support my neighbor’s dog over Barack Obama.

So Curt, you’ll support another back-stabbing Rino?

No thanks! The knife in the front is preferable to the knife in the back.

Ivan.

I have hired men to work in agriculture and for agriculture construction. Sometimes I needed a plumber or carpenter and I might have trouble finding one. During good economic times, construction men and ranch hands are often independent and hold out foe the best deal possible. During the 80’s I learned if you must ask a man over once to come work for you, you really don’t need him.

There is a peculiar element for some men, they need their ego fed to feel good about themselves. It is not a desirable trait; actually, it is a personality defect. If a man isn’t sure if he wants to be leader of the Free World, he doesn’t have the leadership qualities we need.

A man who is ready to lead will step forward.

@Skookum: Couldn’t have said it better myself, Skookum. I just cannot get behind the idea of a Chris Christie Presidential bid. As Curt pointed out, he is weak on AGW and on the 2nd Amendment. I mean I am not a purist, but sheesh, we NEED someone to dismantle and reform the EPA.

Chris Christie isn’t that guy.

I listened to Ann Coulter on Sean Hannity’s radio show earlier this week when she was working so hard to defend Christie that she actually sounded like a liberal.

She defended his appointment of a radical muslim to a state bench.

She defended his stance on AGW.

She defended his stance on the 2nd Amendment.

Basically she said that on the issues of AGW and the 2nd Amendment, he was just telling liberals what they wanted to hear, but I don’t buy that.

It was painful to listen to Coulter get whiny, snotty and hateful when Sean Hannity just kept pointing out that these were issues that Christie will have trouble with.

This is a case of the news creating the news. Christie has said numerous times he is not running in 2012. He even bluntly said that only his suicide would convince the press he isn’t running for president.

With that attitude on the Second Amendment, I will not support Christie. I am totally fed-up with both parties watering down our constitutional rights. Rights that each and everyone in government office swore to uphold.

Antics, I heard part of that show while driving; I lost respect for Coulter, after listening to her sound like an adolescent schoolgirl who is caught up in puppy love. Frankly, I was astounded at her lack of common sense.

Relieving our country and businesses from the draconian stranglehold of the EPA regulations and the AGW Hoax with its’ measures designed to finance our Socialist Party should be foremost on the agenda or at least behind dismantling Obama’s Affordable Health Care that no one will be able to afford except for the wealthy and the entitled.

No thanks Chris, I can control my own gun.

I think he is probably technically correct on immigration violations. Speaking as someone who is strongly *against* illegal immigration, I don’t want it prosecuted as a crime: that involves a trial, courts, legal defense and so on. You will never manage to take care of multiple millions of illegal immigrants using a heavyweight process such as the criminal justice system employs. Rather, you have to use a streamlined deportation process for those who are reasonably suspected of being here illegally and who can’t produce proof of citizenship (or green card, etc.). Given the size of the problem I expect some would be exiled in error, but they could seek redress at the US consulate or embassy.
That said, the comment does probably mean he isn’t interested in doing much about it. I don’t really see much reason to choose Christie over Romney. Both have centrist records that won’t make a real conservative happy, both can point to a lot of successes, but Romney has actually committed to the race and built a campaign organization.

@anticsrocks: Although I love Coulter and enjoy her books and columns tremendously, she has weird picks for president. In 2008, she was on the Romney bus; and now, she pants after Christie. Given what she purports to believe, I am surprised she is not a full-throated fan of Citizen Cain.

Romney a centrist? Riiiiiiight. He’s more of a liberal than a centrist.

. . . . But just in case, the MSM is ranting itself into apoplexy bloviating from on-high about his weight.

He is plain spoken and tells it like it is, but he is too far left for me. He is a RINO in size and policy. The conservatives are looking for a plain spoken nominee, but not Christy. Let him finish his term and see what he has done. There are some other governors(not Bobby Jindal) out there that are making great changes in their states. Christy says he’s not running, great. Maybe next time. But what’s interesting is that the country club republicans and RINOS are terrified by the Tea Party uprising in the party and they are trying to hold on to their power and prestige. They are getting desperate.

The reason people like him is that he doesn’t cower in front of the unions and the media. He is an in your face guy who enjoys confrontation. He is a Democrat from the 50’s or 60’s; after dealing with our RINOs, that looks good.

We already have a narcissist in the Oval Office, we don’t need a tough guy RINO looking for some good youtube moments.

I agree Antirocks. I will refuse to compromise on my Second Amendment (or any other Constitutional rights,) rights just “to beat Obama.” I’m tired of that establishment-progressive Republican cr*p and I will vote third party before I vote for another pro-gun control politician or one that supports warrentless wiretaps. If I want someone “plain spoken who tells it like it is”, I’ll go with Palin or Cain thank you very much.

This election is bigger than one man. This is a battle of ideologies, in the battlefield of ideas. I believe that it’s possible to corrupt men of the Republican brand, as it is Democrat. We need to restore a solid foundation here. This is about character. Any deviation from the founding constitutional principles is cause for alarm. Any acceptance contrary to our founding principles is unacceptable. Compromise of 2nd amendment is a red flag. Acceptance of AGW, a red flag. Out of all the candidates in the running today, Cain has been exceptionally consistent in these regards.

Christie Flavor of the month. NEXT
Marco Rubio will be the next Conservative POTUS in 2020.

Christie needs to stay in Jersey- his job there is not yet finished, and if he cut and ran towards a possible presidency, I would think less of him.
There is no litmus test that defines a perfect candidate- there will always be some thing you might not agree with a candidate on, but you have to look at the man’s whole philosophy.
If it is strong enough on your core tenets, you might have to overlook some little things that do not fit your personal philosophy- remember, the President ,(if he isn’t a socialist, waging class warfare) has to try and govern over 300 million people, each with their own personal convictions that will certainly vary.

What a novel idea, enter the race late; everyone else has made mistakes in the debates, but Christie enters as Mr Perfect, with a clean slate.

The debates are for candidates to test their skills against one another, to skip them and say, “Look at me, I am beautiful and indecisive like Obama,” will not endear him to some voters.

Christie is on TV right now confirming that he is not running. I was actually hoping that he would because he would have taken votes from Romney and Perry lessening the chance of either of the three to get the nomination.

Ditto says A Christie run would have “taken votes from Romney and Perry lessening the chance of either of the three to get the nomination.” Is that a quote from Sarah?

@Rich Wheeler:

No, it’s simple logical deduction based on comparison of the various Republican candidate’s histories.

Ditto “either of the three”???
