Essentially the “doing more with less” advice that Retired General Stan McC gave me.
I did a whole lot more with less than what Gen. Stan requested and Mr. Obama sent me

I went out for a ride on my Mare after lunch, counted about 40 or so recently branded calves and had campfire coffee with four hired hands that offered me campfire cooked beans, bacon and sourdough bread that was fire baked in an old cast iron dutch oven. I accepted coffee and bread with jam and checked their Mounts and the Cattle and headed for the house. Up on the highest ridge here I can see half of my spread and less that a third of my herd as they are on High Pasture.

It’s more interesting if like minded people discuss and debate differences rather than have bland agreement. For once I whole heartedly agree with something Obama has done.
I was looking for the Patron Saint of Marines, but it appeared that none were brave enough to hang out with them. St. George is the Patron Saint of warriors, and I also noted that he was the Patron Saint against syphilis.
When the U.S. Military isn’t at war against others, we’re usually at war with each other. Just some good natured ribbing amongst comrades in arms. Well, except for the broken nose and three cracked ribs I received at the hands of 7 jarheads in Okinawa. Even so, when things are going to hell in a hand-basket and the enemy is all around you, there is no more welcome site that a bunch of jarheads. As much as I admire them, I am forbidden to publicly acknowledge them with anything other than extreme distaste. Patvann understands. It’s the law; and the law is the law.

It’s hard to argue the religious importance of Puller, without a casual reference to Smedley Butler and his sainthood.
I think of you and your son everyday, PV. If we assume the good wishes of the readers of FA can exert a positive influence, then your son has a veil of protection.
I forgot about Chesty. Hard to read a military biography without someone quoting the crazy SOB. I can’t remember if it was Boyington’s autobiography or someone else’s; but it was said that Chesty once told Pappy Boyington that there was a fine line between a Navy Cross and a General Court Martial. And of course his classic quote, “There are not enough Chinamen in the world to stop a fully armed Marine regiment from going where ever they wont to go.”
If Chesty had been born 50 years later, we still wouldn’t have let him in the Air Force. You just can’t put people like that around technology. 8)

I have many Christian friends that want to bring prayer back into the public schools. I’ve been telling them that’s great idea but what will you do when the school board hires an Islamic teacher and that Islamic teacher starts teaching Islamic prayers? At that point they would have no legal ground to stand on to stop that teacher because they allow prayer in public schools. OOPS that would another CONservative idea that in reality could be a problem.

Thank you for the compliment. I have never been accused of being an “author.” I went through school with the intention of getting out, and that is all that I accomplished. I got a certificate that said I made it through school.
I went from job to job for years until I finally did what I wanted to do since I was in high school, drive a truck across the USA.
Later on I volunteered to be a Trucker Buddy for a grade school class. It is an organization that matches up teachers with drivers to write to each other. When I first stared, the computer I had didn’t have spelling checker. When I got one that did I found out I was misspelling a lot of small words.
The next upgrade I got had the grammar checker in it. While I was writing a letter to my 5th grade class, a window popped up that said, “You don’t normally start a sentence with the word and.” I left it that way anyway because I wanted a longer pause than normal there.
The next letter I got from one of the boys started out, “You don’t normally start a sentence with the word and.” Here was a fifth grader telling me how to write, and I thought to myself that it was great. He learned more about English up to the 5th grade than I did all through high school.
I’m just a retired truck driver responding to comments I feel strongly about, and thanks again for the compliment.

I’ve known about the first death in this deployment of my son’s battalion for a few days now, and it was officially released last night with the young-man’s name. John did not know him personally, as he was not assigned to the same camp as my son.

Max stepped on a mine, and lost both legs instantly. He hung on for 3 days.

When the U.S. Military isn’t at war against others, we’re usually at war with each other. Just some good natured ribbing amongst comrades in arms. Well, except for the broken nose and three cracked ribs I received at the hands of 7 jarheads in Okinawa. Even so, when things are going to hell in a hand-basket and the enemy is all around you, there is no more welcome site that a bunch of jarheads. I forgot about Chesty. Hard to read a military biography without someone quoting the crazy SOB. I can’t remember if it was Boyington’s autobiography or someone else’s; but it was said that Chesty once told Pappy Boyington that there was a fine line between a Navy Cross and a General Court Martial. And of course his classic quote, “There are not enough Chinamen in the world to stop a fully armed Marine regiment from going where ever they wont to go.”
If Chesty had been born 50 years later, we still wouldn’t have let him in the Air Force. You just can’t put people like that around technology. 8)

I have many Christian friends that want to bring prayer back into the public schools. I’ve been telling them that’s great idea but what will you do when the school board hires an Islamic teacher and that Islamic teacher starts teaching Islamic prayers? At that point they would have no legal ground to stand on to stop that teacher because they allow prayer in public schools. OOPS that would another CONservative idea that in reality could be a problem.

I never did get into golf. I have done it twice. I am one of those that if I am doing something repetitive my mind wonders and I get tired of it quickly.
Golf is like that. You hit a ball, walk or ride up to it, hit it aging, walk or ride up to it, hit it again. You do this 15-20 times, then you go to another tee and do the same thing for 15-20 times. It gets old very quickly for me and I just don’t care for the game.

Thank you for the compliment. I have never been accused of being an “author.” I went through school with the intention of getting out, and that is all that I accomplished. I got a certificate that said I made it through school.
I went from job to job for years until I finally did what I wanted to do since I was in high school, drive a truck across the USA.
Later on I volunteered to be a Trucker Buddy for a grade school class. It is an organization that matches up teachers with drivers to write to each other. When I first stared, the computer I had didn’t have spelling checker. When I got one that did I found out I was misspelling a lot of small words.
The next upgrade I got had the grammar checker in it. While I was writing a letter to my 5th grade class, a window popped up that said, “You don’t normally start a sentence with the word and.” I left it that way anyway because I wanted a longer pause than normal there.
The next letter I got from one of the boys started out, “You don’t normally start a sentence with the word and.” Here was a fifth grader telling me how to write, and I thought to myself that it was great. He learned more about English up to the 5th grade than I did all through high school.
I’m just a retired truck driver responding to comments I feel strongly about, and thanks again for the compliment.

I’ve known about the first death in this deployment of my son’s battalion for a few days now, and it was officially released last night with the young-man’s name. John did not know him personally, as he was not assigned to the same camp as my son.
We parents and loved ones were all hoping that we could all get through deployment intact, and last Friday was the half-way mark…but to no avail.
Max stepped on a mine, and lost both legs instantly. He hung on for 3 days.
