Eyeing November!

Wonderful picture. Eagles rock and I have always loved birds of prey in general but
Eagles are my favorite by far. Thanks for sharing this!!!

To represent today’s USA more appropriately the eagle should be facing the other direction and flying away. Otherwise, I loved the picture too. If Ben Franklin would have gotten his way it would have been a picture of a turkey.

I’m sure you have heard that there is a drive to get another engine for the F-35. Right now the engine for the F-35 is twice as loud, at take off, than the F-15. It’s about as noisy as an airhorn and a tornado siren. I’m sure the F-35 with its present engine would be banned at airshows to protect the hearing of their audiences. The noise problem is making big news in Idaho, because you don’t have to live near the airbases to hear it’s roar.

Smorgasbord..

We have a turkey… it’s in the Oval Office!

After I quit laughing and could write, I have to say that is a good one. The turkey is “gobbling” up our money.

I see by the list that Obama invited to the McChrystal roast at the White House , beside McChrystal and General Petraeus, there are no other Americans on it.

I have to share what my Tenn. buddy sent to me. Because I’m a retired PD detective he likes to tweak me with stories of stupid cops. This one really takes the cake!

Officials Drop Charges Against Tenn. Newlywed

AOL News (June 22) — Officials have dismissed all charges against a Chattanooga, Tenn., newlywed who was arrested after rushing his ailing wife to the hospital.

Eric Wright, a 27-year-old trained emergency medic, and his wife, Aline, a registered nurse, were enjoying what was supposed to be their honeymoon at home last week when Aline appeared to be having a stroke.

Knowing he had to get his wife, a cancer survivor with a heart condition, to a hospital as soon as possible, Eric drove her to Erlanger Medical Center, where they both work. He said he stopped at and then ran two red lights en route to the hospital. When a police officer flashed his lights behind their car, Eric said he did not pull over because he knew every minute counted.
Aline Wright and Eric Wright of Chattanooga, Tenn. Courtesy Wright Family Tennessee officials on Tuesday dropped charges against Eric Wright, who was arrested last week after rushing his wife, Aline, to the hospital.

At the hospital, Eric said Chattanooga police officer Jim Daves stood in the way as he tried to carry Aline, a left-leg amputee, into the emergency room.

“I remember having to stop. I was trying to explain the situation, but he didn’t really stop to listen. He never asked what her condition was,” Eric told AOL News on Sunday. “I remember having to step around him to get into the emergency room.”

Then, Eric said, the officer repeatedly attempted to enter the room where Aline was being treated.

Two days later, Eric was arrested, charged with assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment and a felony count of evading arrest, as well as traffic violations.

According to WATC NewsChannel 9, the officer’s affidavit says, “Defendant stopped in the ER entrance and jumped out and ran. Police made contact with defendant at the passenger side of his vehicle, and I grabbed the defendant’s arm and he pushed me away, scraping my arm with his fingernail.”

Eric has denied those allegations, saying he never had any physical contact with the officer.

Today all of the charges were dropped. Hamilton County District Attorney General William Cox’s motion to dismiss said that “sufficient necessity … existed which would negate any criminal intent on the part of the defendant.”

The officer in the case has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending an internal investigation into the matter, according to The Associated Press. A message left by AOL News with the Chattanooga Police Department for comment was not immediately returned.

Eric was also suspended from his job at Erlanger. “It is a matter of routine to suspend an employee once he/she has been charged with a felony offense,” the hospital said in a statement.

The hospital decided on Monday to lift Eric’s suspension as well as pay him for the day of work he missed.

Eric told AOL News on Sunday that doctors were not able to determine whether his wife had suffered a stroke, but he said she planned to follow up with a neurologist.

Here is what I said in my blog. Pardon the caps and language-

Seriously, I’m telling you this cop can’t find anyone in the department to talk to that doesn’t start the conversation with “Are you out of your freaking mind!” Listen, 99.9% of the police are good people with some common sense. Obviously, we found the .1 percent guy.

I’m thinking remedial training at the least or termination at the worst. Here is the training. “Okay dumbass, try to pay attention. If a guy is blowing lights and “running” but pulls into an emergency room entrance THERE IS PROBABLY A GOOD REASON!!!!! Oh, oh, and here’s a hint- If the guy is holding an unconscious one legged woman YOU MIGHT WANT TO TAKE BREATH AND REVIEW THE SITUATION!!!! DUMBASS! Here, take this ticket book and see those parking meters over there. Start writing. However, if someone walks up to talk with you, you are to turn and walk away. You cannot talk to anyone. Not talkie, no touchie, until I say different. Aaaagh!”

I’ll try again with this one:

CURT: such beautifull birds, where at my eyesight plus 2 more, and feeding ona young deer they killed earlyer, and when a coyotee arrive to claim a share, one of the eagle shase him away, his wings where open as he was walking, and they where gone the next morning, but there was 5 coyotees feeding, and at one time after, one of them pick up a leg and cross the field still cover with late witer snow of a good 2miles being followed by the others,he never stop and never let go the leg of the dear; I whatch all of it and i realyse, that I had forgotten to breed. bye

Rumors exist that Obama may be considering a executive Order the grants blanket amnesty to all illegal immigrants in the US:

Some say that such an Executive Order will end all protests and make the whole subject null and void. Others say that it may result in race riots and possibly even civil war.

Sleep well, the EPA classified milk as oil due to animal fat content. Farmers:

would be required to develop and implement spill prevention plans for milk storage tanks. The rules are set to take effect in November, though that date might be pushed back.

“That could get expensive quickly,” Konkel said. “We have a serious problem in the Gulf. Milk is a wholesome product that does not equate to spilling oil.”

But last week environmentalists disagreed at a Senate committee hearing on a resolution from Sen. Wayne Kuipers, R-Holland, calling for the EPA to rescind its ruling.

“The federal Clean Water Act requirements were meant to protect the environment from petroleum-based oils, not milk,” he said. “I think it is an example of federal government gone amuck.”

But Gayle Miller, legislative director of Sierra Club Michigan Chapter, said agricultural pollution probably is the nation’s most severe chronic problem when it comes to water pollution.

MISSY: hi, IS IT what’s keeping them from real oil spill problem?, THEY should dismantle the
whole organization for being up to their job; this is a waist of money to support that.

@ilovebeeswarzone:

Our country is being run by crazy people. Enviros eventually want to turn us all into plant eaters, they hate cows, they view all livestock as polluters and we are meat eating heathens.

Restaurants are being bullied all over, no doubt meat will be banned, livestock spayed and neutered, when they reach the endangered species list, they will want to protect them. 🙄 Makes perfect sense to them.

MISSY: hi, did you see that men who stop by the USA roadside box; I’LL have a cheeseburger ,
a large fries,black coffee ?. bye

MISSY: COME a postman, he goes to the car, and said, where do you want it deliver sir.

OLD TROOPER: hi, my life is broken into segments; sleeping, working, eating,
looking for things i had just a minute ago. bye 🙄

“Our country is being run by crazy people. Enviros eventually want to turn us all into plant eaters, they hate cows, they view all livestock as polluters and we are meat eating heathens.”

The bald eagle was close to extinction in the lower 48 states by the 1950s and probably would be gone by now if not for those environmental whackos. The main main reason was most likely the widespread use of DDT. Thanks to environmentalists and federal regulation the population recovered enough to be dropped off the endangered specie list in 2007.

Presently only 10% of large ocean fish remain. 25% of all large mammels are in danger of extinction within the next 30 years. Refer to the Holocene Mass Extinction.

And, due to the Delta Smelt, California farmers are losing their farms, seine the fish, relocate them and turn on the water, we relocate fish from our lake to our ponds that are basically incubators, all the time.

Western farmers are constantly facing lawsuits over grazing, now, milk is oil.

Animal rights activists, enviros and the UN have for years attempted to link our dinner plate with the environment. Linking the bald eagle with the extreme measures they have been diligently working on to eliminate livestock from our food chain is apples and oranges.

On a happier note, hoping for the U.S Soccer Team to win the Soccer World Cup! Not many Americans understand or care about soccer but at 2:30 PM today the U.S. will be making history. I predict a victory of 2-0 for the U.S. U.S.A!

@Greg

So……………we are trying to continue another environmentalist fraud?

In 1941, before any DDT was used, 197 bald eagles were counted. In 1960, after 15 years of heavy DDT use, the count had risen to 891. Explanations are in order for just why you continue to believe the hoax perpetrated on the American people by environmentalist whackos, are they not?

DDT was one of those miracle chemicals, largely responsible for the severe reduction in malaria, however, due to just one man, it was banned in the US which led to a worldwide banning. At this moment in time, the biggest killer of people in the subcontinent of Africa and in other tropical areas of the world is Malaria. The World Health Organization and others now recognize the need to bring back DDT in order to reduce deaths from malaria.

Ignorance and stupidity by the left continues to kill more people in the world everyday.

@Greg

Instead of lecturing people from a place of ignorance, maybe you should devote more time to researching topics on your own, so as to learn more from the respected experts instead of repeating the fallacies of your leftist acquaintances.

Missy is very correct in labeling the environmentalist movement in governmental positions as “crazy people”. Continued reliance on big brother to protect us from ourselves only invites destruction of society by hampering scientific advancements that tend toward the benefit of mankind in general.

#21 “Linking the bald eagle with the extreme measures they have been diligently working on to eliminate livestock from our food chain is apples and oranges.”

I think not, because nothing within the biosphere–be it human beings and their activities or bald eagles–exists as an isolated part. The Earth’s biosphere is a closed system, with all parts in a dynamic balance. That’s a fundamental underlying reality–not airy-fairy, liberal clap-trap, dreamed up solely to promote some crack-brained progressive agenda.

@johngalt: DDT was one of those miracle chemicals, largely responsible for the severe reduction in malaria, however, due to just one man…

You mean one biaaatch, known as Rachel Carson, right johngalt? Or are you referring to Jimmy Carter, who awarded her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her inflicted genocide?

@Greg: Presently only 10% of large ocean fish remain. 25% of all large mammels are in danger of extinction within the next 30 years.

Greg, history is filled with lists of extinct animals… the majority of which have nothing to do with DDT or pesticides. Evolution’s natural order of things includes extinction of all species… no doubt including humans in the future and excepting cockroaches. Which then makes one ponder on the species lifespan of the prog/socialist… 😆 Okay, just kidding… sorta.

I wasn’t actually suggesting that the last dodo finally succumbed to a DDT-induced cough.

DDT is kind of a mixed bag as a malaria control pesticide. The initial “miracle” results it produced when mosquito-infested areas were indiscriminately dosed with untold tons of the stuff quickly tapered off as mosquito populations predictably developed DDT resistance. Once that happens, you’re left with a highly persistant environmental toxin that infiltrates the entire food chain and works its way up. If you heavily dose the mosquitos you heavily dose everything else.

That’s not to say that DDT still doesn’t have some specific, highly useful applications in malaria control. It’s currently being used that way, and some such specific uses probably need to be expanded.

Ever wonder about the fact that environmentalists are virtually always also evolutionists, and yet they’re terribly concerned about extinction of various species??

How come they never seem to make any association between extinction and evolution??

@Greg:

So, you are a vegan?

“Instead of lecturing people from a place of ignorance, maybe you should devote more time to researching topics on your own, so as to learn more from the respected experts instead of repeating the fallacies of your leftist acquaintances.”

I seldom make the default presumption that anyone not sharing my own view speaks “from a place of ignorance”, nor do I believe that everything under the sun can be fit onto one side or the other of some all-encompassing liberal/conservative dichotomy.

With many discussions, when politics walks in, reason seems to walk out.

GREG: hi, yes but look at the fun we all have to ponder on every one our knowledge, our view, our way of thinking, and if they questioned it, we start pondering again, until they leaf us alone. bye
🙄

“Ever wonder about the fact that environmentalists are virtually always also evolutionists, and yet they’re terribly concerned about extinction of various species?”

I understand that there’s a bible-based component of the environmentalist camp that roots their environmentalism in the concept of stewardship. They believe God charged man with care of the His world and its creatures. I don’t know what their position on evolution might be. I’m not bible-oriented, and have no problem in seeing evolution as part of God’s creative methodology.

Natural extinction of various specie is one thing. It’s clearly part of an ungoing process. Human activity that trashes our planet and drives specie over cliffs wholesale is something else entirely. It’s kind of like the biblical Noah gone mad, waiting for pairs of animals to exit the ark with a pistol in his hand.

GREG: the often seen danger in thoses causes is of some of them loose the middle ground and become so rigorous in their way to see things, that they spoile the intentions of the others, and force their views, of doing all or nothing, and get the organisation in trouble. bye 🙄

@Greg

You are, however, speaking from “a place of ignorance” if you insist on attempting to perpetuate the myth of DDT killing off the bald eagle. It is not, as you claim, someone with a different view that is opposed to you. I am someone who delves in FACTS, which your arguments seem to be devoid of. Forgetting, for the moment, about conservative or liberal philosophies, your argument to Missy is one of ignorance, and, as I said, devoid of factual evidence.

@Mata

Actually, I was referring to the EPA’s first administrator, William Ruckelshaus, who ignored the advice of his own scientific advisors and banned DDT in nearly all domestic pesticidal use. Ms. Carson certainly shares plenty of the blame for the ban, but Ruckelshaus started a trend of overreaching authority and dismissiveness of actual scientific work by instituting the ban.

@johngalt, it was Carson’s 1962 book, Silent Spring, that lead to all the bruhaha before Ruckelshaus banned it in 1972. Do you think he would have without that media wave of hysteria, caused by Carson? Interesting if we could see a parallel path. My gut says nope… wouldn’t have happened without the public pressure. Just as climate change wouldn’t happen if Gore had found another “cause” to use to spread panic and bolster his bank accounts.

@Greg: I wasn’t actually suggesting that the last dodo finally succumbed to a DDT-induced cough.

No of course not. However you do believe that mankind is the primary blame for all extinction when you say:

Human activity that trashes our planet and drives specie over cliffs wholesale is something else entirely. It’s kind of like the biblical Noah gone mad, waiting for pairs of animals to exit the ark with a pistol in his hand.

First of all, no one brought up Biblical, save you. Evolution of species is not a Biblical foundation, but something we’ve witnessed over time. Species adapt to different conditions, climate and surroundings. Ergo the expression, “survival of the fittest”. Yet you seem to believe that humans are at the source of it all.

And here I thought you were just a “blame America” person. Turns out you are a “blame all humans” person.

There’s evidence that DDT can cause eggshell thinning in birds, and that eagles, brown pelicans, and various songbirds seem to be particularly susceptible. That probably has to do with DDT’s tendency to persist in the environment, to concentrate in biological organisms, and with the place of various specie in the food chain. I include such information among the facts I consider.

Personally, I’m quite happy to have spent most of my years since 1972 with significantly decreased DDT exposure. Maybe any resultant toxic chemical deficiency will be counteracted by my exposure to dioxin.

You are crazy Greg.

Thin eggs makes it EASIER for them to hatch.

Regarding those chemicals, get yourself a bubble like the one on Seinfeld, you can sleep easier not having to worry about stuff.

@Mata

The parallels between the banning of DDT and the current enviro-theory of climate change(or AGW) is interesting. Gore’s movie may be likened to Carson’s book, in that they both spawned an increased movement towards belief of their particular topics, however, like Gore’s movie, Carson’s book is filled with myths and half-truths designed to sway the reader(or film goer) to a particular belief. One has to wonder if a current Ruckelshaus (like the current head of the EPA) will make another overreach of authority, or if it will be a whole chorus of them(say, the congress of the United States).

@Greg

Unfortunately for you, your “facts” are unproven theories, even years after the last of the DDT was used, yet the one simple fact remains, and that is that millions of humans on earth have died as an indirect result of an ignorant activist imposing her idea, and subsequently, a government official’s proclamation, that DDT is bad. Your ignorance on this matter is easy to see in the perpetual falsehoods and unproven theory you present to us.

@greg 36

And its estimated that NOT using DDT has caused 100s of thousands of HUMAN death due to malaria every year.

So, for birds we have competing studies, some showing harm, some not…

While the HUMAN cost is well documented, and not really in dispute…

You might want to have a look at this 2009 article about growing concerns over the increasing use of DDT. It’s from Science Daily:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/05/090504122058.htm

“We have to put our concerns in the context of people dying of malaria,” said lead author Brenda Eskenazi, UC Berkeley professor of epidemiology and of maternal and child health at the School of Public Health. “We know DDT can save lives by repelling and killing disease-spreading mosquitoes. But evidence suggests that people living in areas where DDT is used are exposed to very high levels of the pesticide. The only published studies on health effects conducted in these populations have shown profound effects on male fertility. Clearly, more research is needed on the health of populations where indoor residual spraying is occurring, but in the meantime, DDT should really be the last resort against malaria rather than the first line of defense.”

A Washington Post article from 2007 notes a study suggesting a fivefold increase in the occurence of breast cancer among adult women who were exposed to DDT as children:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/05/AR2007100502253.html

DDT is currently being used in areas of the world where malaria is endemic. It’s being extensively used in agriculture illegallly in some parts of the world–noteably India. I’m not sure what people here are arguing for. Even wider use? It’s reintroduction into the United States?

@Greg

I’m not sure what people here are arguing for. Even wider use? It’s reintroduction into the United States?

No wonder you fail miserably when presenting your point of view. You can’t even remember that it was you who brought up the tired myth of the bald eagle and it’s perceived decline linked to DDT. My original post in response to yours was a rebuttal of your insinuation.

As for DDT itself, you once again are showing your lack of intelligence on the topic by presenting a single statement by someone and offering it as a sort of general consensus on the subject of DDT use. I suggest you read the following article, replete with attributions and references for even further fact checking on the matter of DDT, it’s history, use, and related studies.

Sen. Robert Byrd hospitalized in serious condition

Washington (CNN) — Sen. Robert Byrd, the 92-year-old Democrat from West Virginia who is the longest-serving Congress member in history, has been hospitalized in serious condition, his office said Sunday.

Byrd was admitted to a Washington area hospital last week and his condition is “seriously ill,” according to the statement by his office.

Initially thought to be suffering from heat exhaustion and severe dehydration, Byrd was expected to remain in hospital for “not more than a few days,” the statement said.

“However, upon further examination by his doctors, other conditions have developed which has resulted in his condition being described as ‘serious,’ ” the statement concluded.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/06/27/senate.byrd.hospitalized/

Hope he enjoys a comfortable recovery, but this doesn’t sound good for someone at 92 years.

@Greg 40

Actualy, DDT is NOT being used throughout most of the world, because the only countrys advanced enough to make it, have outlawed it… following America’s lead (which is why malaria in Africa has been UP ever since the ban… there is really no valid replacment for it, but they can’t get it).

Now, if there had been a Human side effect to DDT… seeing as how WE used it extensivly from WWII on, don’t you think someone would have noticed? I mean, come on… they went so far as to look at Bird Eggshells to try to get rid of this stuff, don’t you think if there was ANY valid evidence of People having probs with it, they would have gotten rid of it on THAT basis?

Its funny how “articles” in magazines continue to defend this ban, when the EPAs own scientific panel said there was no basis to ban it… but then its always human nature to continue to defend a failed decision… long after you’ve been prooven wrong…

@johngalt, I suspect Greg totally forgets his point from the onset. Bringing up DDT was his inept way of defending environmentalists, along with pretty much blaming all mankind for every animal extinction in history with ensuing comments.

I’d say we’d all do better if the next extinct critter was that of environmentalist dregs.

@Missy: I wish him well too. Turn it around and have it a republican and the libs would hope they die or hadn’t been born in the first place. I’ll keep the high ground. Less chance of flooding.

“As for DDT itself, you once again are showing your lack of intelligence on the topic by presenting a single statement by someone and offering it as a sort of general consensus on the subject of DDT use. Uh huh. That article is by Roger Bate–a guy who who has also attempted to confuse the public about the dangers of exposure to tobacco smoke, to downplay concerns about the potential risks of genetically modified crops, and to discredit the widespread distribution of the cheaper generic drugs approved by World Health Organization to the benefit of the pharmaceutical industry. My lack of intelligence does not prevent me from noticing that there seems to be a pattern there.

@Smorgasbord:

The lib/progs were absolutely evil when it came to the death of Tony Snow and Cheney’s health scares.

Cold article in Salon. This journalist couldn’t wait for a decent amount of time before discussing who gets Senator Byrd’s seat, didn’t even wait until he passed.

This is hardly the first time that Robert Byrd has been hospitalized, but (to my knowledge) it is the first time his own office has said that the 92-year-old senator “seriously ill.” So, the question of who would fill the Senate seat he’s held since 1959 if Byrd vacates it sees more relevant than ever. On this subject, there are two things to keep in mind: 😯

1) Timing is important. 🙄 As others have noted, the key date here is July 3 — next Saturday. Under West Virginia law, were a vacancy to be declared before then, an appointee would hold the seat through this November, when a special election would be held to fill the final two years on the term Byrd was elected to in 2006. The winner of that special election would presumably seek a full term in 2012. Were a vacancy to be declared after July 3, an appointee would hold the seat through the 2012 election, when the full six-year term would be up.

http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2010/06/27/byrd_senate_appointment

‘This journalist couldn’t wait for a decent amount of time before discussing who gets Senator Byrd’s seat, didn’t even wait until he passed.”

Apparently an existing Virginia law that sets a critical date less than a week away has no sense of decent intervals. Unfortunately thought must be given to such distracting realities. I’m certain that the importance of the date hasn’t occurred only to Senator Byrd’s fellow democrats.
