A poll from fly-over country [Reader Post]

Politicians increasingly rely on polls to indicate which positions they should take, which buzz words to use, and which segments of the population to target. With this in mind, I decided to conduct my very own poll here in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

Granted, I’m I’m no expert. But then again, these days the majority of “experts” seem to be consistently wrong on the issues that affect us here at the local level.

For clarity’s sake, I define flyover country as including the 98% of America that is geographically situated outside of the major cities, major media markets, and “the beltway.”

A whopping 80% of those that I polled had the same answer when asked how they voted in last Tuesday’s primary elections. They all cast their votes for the outsider and against the incumbent. Ninety-nine percent (99%) of the local firefighters, about 60% of all the volunteers at Helping Hand, and almost 80% of my friends and neighbors were pretty vehement about voting out all incumbents. Even a few of my bleeding-heart friends are now ashamed that they cast their vote for Obama.

Having lived in this neck of the woods for almost eight years now, I can say with a certainty that I have never seen everyone so riled up. In years past, politics was but one of many topics discussed during friendly gatherings. These days, it seems to dominate every conversation.

Most people I polled here in Murrells Inlet are scared. They feel the America that they know and love is in the process of being hijacked by radicals with an anti-American agenda. They’re angry because their voices are never among those that the media chooses to report. And they’re frustrated that none of their elected officials are standing up to what they see as a progressive tsunami. A tsunami that is anti-ethical to them, their values, their children, their businesses and their God. In a nutshell, they’re mighty ticked off.

Here in Murrells Inlet, common sense reigns – the very common sense that is missing in Washington. Most of us see very clearly that every single solution offered by the Obama administration to date has exacerbated the very problem it was supposed to solve. And we’re starting to wonder why.

Many of us are now aware that our tax dollars are being used as political payoffs. We know we’re being lied to, manipulated and condescended to. We’re appalled by Obama’s incompetance and arrogance. And we’re frustrated because the media isn’t reporting basic facts we all need in order to make informed decisions.

Most of the locals here in Murrells Inlet believe that our elected officials are more concerned with amassing political power than with looking out for “we the people.” A clear majority are convinced America is on the path to socialism.

Residents here don’t like the idea of different rules for different groups. We think “multiculturalism” as practised by Obama is dangerous. We don’t like having to be afraid of our government. We cringe when we see Obama kowtowing to our enemies and alienating our allies. And most of us object to having our wealth confiscated and used against us. Isn’t that tyranny?

The good news is that we are at our breaking point. So, on the one-in-a-million chance that you’re reading this President Obama, we have a message for you: “Extrapolate this sentiment by 150 million ( we have it on good authority you can count that high) and you might get an idea of how the majority of Americans really feel.”

Joe Six-Pack and Susy Homemaker wish you would resign, for the good of the country. Knowing that you will never give up power voluntarily, we will be taking on you and your Chicago machine this November. We will not let you hijack our country. You can bank on it.

Well done Nancy. I considered doing something similar myself; but I am glad you did it because you did such a nice job. We don’t need a great production crew to produce something of interest, you have given us insight into your home community and it is a view we wouldn’t have from he MSM, that’s for sure.

The government and the media are earning our distrust and ire, why should we trust them and their self-serving polls and editorials. I think we will see the citizenry taking such matters into their own hands more and more in the future.

i think your article can serve as a template and an inspiration to encourage other individuals to poll their home areas for a general consensus.

Amen!!!!!

@ Nancy,

Well said. The very insightful element in all this is that the populous reaction is NOT politically right or left it seems, but is reactive to what it is witnessing in Washington. All incumbents are therefore likely to be voted out, including the President.

The reactive votes should also push for a clean-up of the election campaign funding process, a limitation on term lengths, and the elimination of the lobby community which has grown exponentially in the past 20 years. This will reduce the pressure on elected politicians to succumb to the “you will joining the train of corruption” boot to the neck, when they arrive in Washington.

Spend more time at Coastal Sports. The guys there will help you feel empowered to resist any more trampling of our rights by Obama’s administration. Avoid Suck, Bang Blow.

😈 Since I have been reading this post and many others like it, I have been wondering when someone would do this, take a poll of the fly-over country folks. I do not find it to be wrong in the make up of the results, as it really does express the sentiments of all most everyone whom I talk to.
But, why stop here. May I suggest you talk to a few volunteers and get these remarks from the real Americans on tape and sent it to the pretender-n-theif, obamma, the theif and pretender invading our house at 1600 penn ave.. I think he might be a little shocked to actually hear from those of us who pay his salary as to what we really think. I think he ia a traitor in the fullest term of the word and I would be more than giddy to express it to him in person if necessary, maybe he might want to kick my ass, if he felt froggy he could always leap, of course it would be a disadvantage being is I was trained by the best, the United States Marine Corp. I might be disabled but, I’m not stoopid.

Sums up EXACTLY what I am feeling. Thanks for the great article. Get rid of the bums.

I’m not in your part of flyover country, but I’m apparently in “screwed over” country. On Hot Air and Red State they say Senator Kyl was told privately by the traitor in chief that he wouldn’t secure the border because then there would be no incentive for amnesty. Pass that around and see how many people sign on. Too bad he didn’t say it publicly so we could get him on dereliction and malfeasance.

I hope Obama stays away as we don’t need him or his agenda to destroy America as we know it.

I’ve not bothered to do this with any degree of precision, but here in NH, there sure are a lot fewer bumper stickers praising the zero these days and a lot more people from 18 to 80 agreeing with me when I make my usual disparaging remarks about the lefties. I am fairly sure Judd Gregg would be facing a stiff primary fight if he were not retiring. I have hopes of seeing the Granite State return to the path of fiscal restraint after years of the tax & spend myopia of the dims. If I were a betting man, I’d give good odds the pollsters are under-estimating the anger and frustration of the electorate.
