My my… it seems the party of transparency and ethics is having a really bad PR year. Add another illustrious Democrat pol to the pot of corruption. Baltimore’s Mayor, Sheila Dixon, has been indicted on 12 counts, “including four counts of perjury and two counts of theft over $500. She was also charged with theft under $500, fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary and misconduct in office.”
Ms. Dixon joins the illustrious company of Dem pols in legal trouble, including the ex Detroit Mayor (and now felon) Kwame Kilpatrick, and the Governors of both IL (Blagojevich) and NM (Richardson).
As for Ms. Dixon? The rhetoric sounds all too familiar….
The State Prosecutor’s Office, which has been investigating corruption at City Hall for nearly three years, said Dixon received holiday gift cards for four years from several people. Prosecutors said the gift cards were to be distributed to needy families, but were instead used by Dixon to buy herself electronics, clothes and other merchandise and also handed out to members of her staff.
“I am being unfairly accused,” Dixon said in a statement. “Time will prove that I have done nothing wrong, and I am confident that I will be found innocent of these charges.”
Dixon said she would not step down. “I will not let these charges deter me from keeping Baltimore on the path that we have set, or from carrying forward the significant progress we have made thus far,” she said.
And yes… in case you were wondering, her Democrat party affiliation did not appear in the article until the third to the last paragraph of the story.
As if the recent cascade of Dem pols under investigation weren’t enough, we also have five states getting into the bailout line. And yup… every one of the five Governors, there holding out their tin cups, is a Democrat.
After bailing out Wall Street and the U.S. auto industry amid warnings of a deep recession, Uncle Sam now is being asked to chip in $1 trillion over two years for states facing severe budget shortfalls.
Five Democratic governors are pleading the states’ case to Barack Obama, seeking a bailout package that would include $250 billion for education and $150 billion in middle class tax cuts.
And Obama seems willing to provide help once he takes office as president Jan. 20, though the scope is uncertain. Obama’s aides and congressional leaders have been talking about a package roughly half the size of the two-year plan proposed Friday by the governors from Wisconsin, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Ohio.
The governors said they had presented their plan to Obama’s transition team as well as congressional leaders, arguing that higher level of federal aid is needed to deal with unprecedented state budget shortfalls in 41 states and Washington, D.C., that the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities pegged at $42 billion for the current fiscal year alone.
Yeah, I have no doubts that Obama “wants to help”…. hang, he’s so good at spending other people’s money. How could he pass up such a good opportunity?
Not included in the list… at the moment… is the Guvenator, Arnold Schwarzenegger and his previous rumors of asking for a $7 billion bailout to pay the state’s bills. Arnie is a Republican Governor… sort of. At least he does have an “R” after his name, tho most of us are convinced it’s shorthand for “RINO”. But despite his formal party affiliation, there is nothing “republican run” about California… one of the most liberal left states in the nation.
But it’s one heckuva trend, don’t you think? Dem pols are falling like flies, and the Dem run states being the first in line for federal hand outs.
Could there be any link between corruption and fiscal inefficiency, ya think?
Well, I have some advice for all these pols…. learn to live within your means like the rest of us are doing. Yes, state legislators and governors… on up to the federal Congress… all need their allowances cut. And perhaps it should start with their paychecks. Random and routing drug testing should follow. And finally, annual background checks… just to keep up on their latest follies.

how many more dems are gonna go down in flames? and they all shout to the roof tops that they are innocent and being persecuted. what a joke, they all are thinking tha tthey can get away with anything, do they all expect obama to continue to come to their rescue cause if they do i would hate to see when he will have time to actually run the country.
