As Ace said, its easier to beg for forgiveness rather then asking for permission. So what did the MSM do? They showed extreme bias. Now its time to beg for forgiveness and promise it will never happen again…
Cough:
Media bias was more intense in the 2008 election than in any other national campaign in recent history, Time magazine’s Mark Halperin said Friday at the Politico/USC conference on the 2008 election.
“It’s the most disgusting failure of people in our business since the Iraq war,” [ed. failure to force the United States to run like cowards?] Halperin said at a panel of media analysts. “It was extreme bias, extreme pro-Obama coverage.”
Halperin, who maintains Time’s political site “The Page,” cited two New York Times articles as examples of the divergent coverage of the two candidates.
“The example that I use, at the end of the campaign, was the two profiles that The New York Times ran of the potential first ladies,” Halperin said. “The story about Cindy McCain was vicious. It looked for every negative thing they could find about her and it case her in an extraordinarily negative light. It didn’t talk about her work, for instance, as a mother for her children, and they cherry-picked every negative thing that’s ever been written about her.”
The story about Michelle Obama, by contrast, was “like a front-page endorsement of what a great person Michelle Obama is,” according to Halperin.
These people twisted stories, disregarded stories, and lied about stories in their campaign to get Obama elected and NOW….now they realize the error of their ways?
Puhlease…

they are just trying to cover their asses, they will then tell the public it was actaully their duty to find the facts for themselves and its not the media’s fault they chose stupidly. i had a hard time with all of the crap thrown at cindy mccain and sarah palin, it may sound shitty, but i think the dems are pissed because the republican women are way hotter. sorry, i really had to say it, i just did.
SURPRISE, the MSM have been leaning left at least since 1960. Boy did they ever love Malcolm X! Kennedy (any Kennedy) was their darling. Well-documented academic studies verify this.
Reporters are quite far left, editors are somewhat more moderate, and publishers are more moderate still. On a scale of 0 to 100, with 100 being Maxine-Waters-type socialism, the MSM averages about 65. The center-right (like us) rate about 20.
To me, the strangest thing is the reaction of the center-right blogosphere. You act as if this just happened! You seem to think the bias just started last week, or it started when Obama ran for election, or something.
Weird.
Even more startling, the center-right is ALWAYS surprised by this. They want “an apology”, or they want the MSM to “stop”. Stop what? The MSM have been doing this for decades, and they aren’t likely to change now. Quite literally, if they go broke and sink out of sight, they will do it spouting leftist nonsense.
The MSM probably leans left because they believe their “base” consists of well-educated news-watching or news-reading people with left-wing biases. They’re probably right about this, since University graduates get indoctrinated in leftism. Only a minority are very interested in “News”. Few people read much at all.
It’s the center-right blogosphere that is the anomaly. Imagine, center-right and smart at the same time! How strange! Let’s face it folks, we’re a niche market, and until we eradicate leftist teachers from schools and colleges, we will have to put up with living on the margins, in blogs like this.
As for the major Obama love festival, well that’s obvious. The MSM is dying, and they need money. Obama has money. Obama is a leftist, and he needs a mouth-piece to communicate with his base. He can’t let the whole MSM die. They know this, and he knows this. SO the MSM sucks up to Obama. NBC is already asking for a handout. Obama will reward the “loyal”.
Anyone who doesn’t suck up, like FOX, will be left to twist in the wind. They will have zero access to the doors of power. And then they will have no News. And then they will have no viewers. And then they will be gone. So FOX has started to suck up to Obama.
Pro Patria
If Cindy McCain’s husband wore a (D) to his name, she’d be praised as “Mother Teresa” with the amount of charity work she’s done her whole life.
Interesting….the new spam filter word verification (which is boring and annoying; it should ask you to type in an answer to a question, like “Name the worst president”; writing in “Bush” is guaranteed to not see your comment pass the spam filter 🙂 ) is asking me to type in “Theresa” and one other word of non-relevance.
Hey, Mr. Halperin, the fact that you and the rest had your noses up the rear end of his Highness is not exactly news. It would have been newsworthy if you’d thought to mention it when it was actually happening.
Can you imagine? Time publishes a story with the headline, “Oh, Yeah, We Forgot, The Allies Invaded Normandy A Few Months Ago!”
Thanks for the info there, Mark.
We’d have never known.

The persistent claims of mediua bias have, by now, crossed the line into being ridiculous
Since Halperin himself is a very biased person (he was visibly upset when Obama’s speeches were praised for being good speeches, regardless of content), he is seeing bias everyehere he finds disagreeement. Such a biased person is hadly a good source for assessing bias in others.
As one proof of bias, the WaPo ombudsman cited the fact that positive poll results were reported more often for Obama that for MCain! Question: Should poll results not be reported unless the cansidates are even? Ridiculpus/
Conservatives have been screanimng about media bias for a long time. It’s a political strategy, pure and simble, and it’s transparently dishonest. While complaining about the NYT day in and day out, they have no qualms about citing from it, when their own views are reflected in an article. Furthermore, where was the outrage about media bias when McCain was the darling of of the press for decades? Should other politicians, not receiving the same kind of glowing attention during that peeriod have raised a hue a cry about unequal treatment?
Bias is in the eye of the beholder, more often than not, as is evidenced by the descriptions of Muedoch and FOX as ‘fair and balanced’ by some, while others find that notion laughanble.
Moving on to the present, what kind of media bias is it that Pailin is still getting so much media attention while Biden fades away from public attention? Some personalities in politicss are simpley more interesting than others, one would think. The media have no obligation to pay as much attention to the boring as to the captivating.
This whole media bias line is, intellectually, a dead end, The public would be better served by examiniing the factual accuracy and depth of investigation, separating rumors from facts, in reportage.
Food for thought: how does judgment come into this? Are sprotscasters imfprgiveably biased if they say that one horse is a superior animal in a race?
vecene,
Bias is alive and well in the MSM.
You’re right. It’s called “cherry-picking” from a tree that otherwise leans anywhere from center-left to way left. Bias comes in many forms. Most isn’t overt. I think many journalists do delude themselves into the belief that their own liberal leanings don’t affect their copy. But do you honestly think Helen Thomas’s bias doesn’t show up in her professional conduct? Bill Moyers? These are the kind of journalists who have no self-knowledge, no wherewithal when it comes to looking at themselves in the mirror.
You do realize that most conservatives that visit this blog see McCain as a former MSM-darling because he was a “maverick” at the expense of the Republican Party? That he’s regarded as somewhat of an apostate sticking his thumb in the eye of conservatives?
What does the Project for Excellence in Journalism have to say about the myth regarding FOX’s bias? Then compare that to CNN…MSNBC….ABC….CBS….which outlet is blatantly the most biased?
I concede much of FOX is center-right. But the other news outlets have moved the center so far to the left, FOX only seems far to the right to partisans such as yourself (yeah, I bet you think of yourself as a reasonable person, able to look at things with objective lenses, don’t you?).
You’re right. Absolutely! Where was the media equivalency of noise over Biden’s repeated gaffs in comparison to Palin’s? The attention that Palin still gets is mostly negative coverage. Biden’s a bore, you got that one right.
The problem is, the media failed to do its job of reportage. An incurious media leads to voters who know more about Palin’s pregnant daughter than they do about Obama’s connections to Ayers (the serious issue is in regards to the work they did together on education):
They’re allowed to have opinions. The dishonesty is when the straight news begins to sound like the op-eds section.
Journalists who wrote political checks….guess for which party?
