Barack Obama Unable to LEAD His Followers To Decency

Loading

Vice President candidate, Sarah Palin, has a 17yr old daughter who is pregnant.  Honorless partisan hacks from the left end of the political spectrum (ie the new base of the New Democratic Party) have created several conspiracy theories and flooded the internet (subsequently cable news as well) with the most unsavory public accusations and comments.

It’s disgusting.  It should not only stop, but never should have started.  How such ‘open-minded’/”liberal” people could say such things and do such things to a young woman in a time of immeasurable stress is just beyond me.   It’s beyond Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama as well.

“I have said it before, and I will repeat again,” he said, “People’s families are off-limits. And people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know, my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics.”

Yet, it continues. Go to any “liberal” or “progressive” website that has a forum, and you’ll see near chaos, a shade shy of absolute hatred, and the dumbest things every posted. Senator Obama is powerless to control or influence his followers (is he really their leader then?).

What makes this far more amazing is that Senator Obama’s truest claim to fame is his alleged ability to bring people together; to show us all that we are not red states and blue states, we are not Republicans and Democrats, but we are all Americans. This message rings soundly with a demographic that’s been deliberately mislead so many times, and has politically backed terrorist killers. It’s been said that one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter, and the left buys that completely, but the person who said it….was a terrorist-not a freedom fighter.

This is the test of Barack Obama’s lifetime. It’s not whether or not he can be President. He’s tied in the polls, so the possibility is is clearly there. However, the question of him actually being able to lead people (to be a leader) remains to be seen. He’s never had to lead. Now he does, and those who are his strongest supporters….are not following his instructions on even a simple, logical, common sense, clearly honorable request: leave Britol alone.

If they can’t do that, then how can he lead them to war in Iraq for another 16+months min, or Iran, or Pakistan, or Afghanistan, or elsewhere?

Bristol, if you need to see a silver lining in all this, know 2 things:
1) there are literally tens of millions-perhaps hundreds of millions of people who are proud of you and support you and wish you the very best (this includes Senator Barack Obama).
2) the reaction that so many hate-filled, closed-minded, faux-liberals are showing has shown that Senator Obama can give a good speech, and people will clap to it, maybe even stand, but that’s all they’ll do. They won’t follow the man’s instructions let alone follow him to war or other serious challenges.

Good luck to you Bristol! God Bless, and remember there are more good people out there praying for you than there are frightened people lashing out at you.

I agree.

But questioning McCain’s judgement in not properly vetting his VP is not an attack on Palin’s family. I have seen a few references to Palin’s family, many more to Palin herself and most of the attacks directed at McCain.

UNABLE to lead, or UNWILLING? Damned Dems stole a page from Karl Rove’s playbook!

A PERSON’S “FAMILY” IS OFF LIMITS…

….crime “family” that is.

Why don’t we see ANY decent respectable person supporting him?

Why is it that the only “friends” of his we know about are hard-core purveyors evil?

And a kid who gets pregnant is worse than the lot of them? I don’t think so.

I wish her and her husband-to-be health and success in the life they build together, free from any Leftist intrusions.

What a perfect illustration of MSM duplicity!

AND, for all his protestations, it really is an Obama generated smear, after all.
http://obambi.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/did-the-anti-palin-baby-smears-originate-with-obama-indeed-they-did/
All he’s doing is insulating himself against any legitimate attacks against him, as he can now pretend he’s “above” that sort of thing. But the only things Obama might possibly be above are amebae, and if them, then just barely!

i am sure the palin’s were vetted, how could they not be. everyone in their home town knew she was pregnant, how could mccain people have missedit? they didn’t they didn’t care, they are standing behind their vp nominee and that is good. the palin family is so much more close to the heart of america than the majority of politicians. they are hard working people who have come up on their own, not through family connections or affirmative action. the palin family is liek so many middle class families out there, they are real, they have real problems and issues. they are not hiding behind mrs. palin’s office as governer, they are standing proud because that is what they are about. they are real americans, not candy assed democrats.

You can’t hold Obama’s followers responsible for ‘leading them to decency,’ just as you can’t hold Sarah Palin responsible for her daughter meeting the same standard — individual freedom is quite simply too slippery to control in absolute terms.

We can hold Palin accountable for this tho’:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin employed a lobbying firm to secure almost $27 million in federal earmarks for a town of 6,700 residents while she was its mayor, according to an analysis by an independent government watchdog group.

There was $500,000 for a youth shelter, $1.9 million for a transportation hub, $900,000 for sewer repairs, and $15 million for a rail project — all intended to benefit Palin’s town, Wasilla, located about 45 miles north of Anchorage.

In introducing Palin as his running mate on Friday, Sen. John McCain cast her as a compatriot in his battle against wasteful federal spending. McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, hailed Palin as a politician “with an outstanding reputation for standing up to special interests and entrenched bureaucracies — someone who has fought against corruption and the failed policies of the past, someone who’s stopped government from wasting taxpayers’ money.”

McCain’s crusade against earmarks — federal spending sought by members of Congress to benefit specific projects — has been a hallmark of his campaign. He has said earmarks are wasteful and are often inserted into bills with little oversight, sometimes by a single powerful lawmaker.

Palin has also railed against earmarks, touting her opposition to a $223 million bridge in the state as a prime credential for the vice presidential nomination. “As governor, I’ve stood up to the old politics-as-usual, to the special interests, to the lobbyists, the big oil companies, and the good-ol’-boy network,” she said Friday.

As mayor of Wasilla, however, Palin oversaw the hiring of Robertson, Monagle & Eastaugh, an Anchorage-based law firm with close ties to Alaska’s most senior Republicans: Rep. Don Young and Sen. Ted Stevens, who was indicted in July on charges of accepting illegal gifts. The Wasilla account was handled by the former chief of staff to Stevens, Steven W. Silver, who is a partner in the firm.

Today’s front page:http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/01/AR2008090103148_pf.html

Palin likes a good earmark just like anybody else does!

But who is Steven W. Silver? He was a Abramoff lackey.

VETTED!

“And now, with the news of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy, the 2008 presidential campaign officially has more plot twists than an episode of “Lost.” It also has two legitimate stars: Barack Obama, descended from the heavens to heal our souls and deliver our nation; and Sarah Palin, who wandered in from the Alaska wilderness with a rifle under one arm and a baby in the other.”
http://www.bostonherald.com/news/opinion/op_ed/view.bg?articleid=1116377

Can someone older than me cite another example where the candidate for President campaigned against the candidate for Vice President?

It’s almost as if Uh-Bama really believes that he and Biden have switched roles. That is, after all, the way he introduced him at their first conjugal event.

SOMEONE SLIPPED SOME “TRUTH” SERUM INTO THE MOONBAT KOOLAID?

It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. RUMOR IS TRUTH.

The modern laws of media hype and political warfare have a useful tenet:

Repeat ANYTHING or raise false concern over ANYTHING and it is likely to be planted in the conscious/subconscious of many voters.

If people start to think that there might be something fishy with Palin’s last kid (if hers), then that’s FINE. One more doubt (whether tied to reality or not) is another hesitation at the ballot box.

GET WITH THE PROGRAM PEOPLE. The “rising above it” bullshit has served us so well in the past, hasn’t it?
….

I am really getting sick of these disgusting lying idiots, for whom O’Bungler is their king of fools.

In fact, they are pulling out all the stops, and telling lies as fast and as furious as they can.
http://drsanity.blogspot.com/2008/09/sarah-dear-would-make-coffee-for-us-big.html
They must REALLY be scared of her! That alone testifies to what an excellent choice Palin is.

Okay… I’m getting tired of the MSM propaganda. If this was John Edwards, it wouldn’t even make it to the front page. This is an extreme example of Liberal Media Bias. Where is the talk of Edwards’ child? Compare the two. Photographs of Edwards’ child, hush money given out, and the intentional cover-up of the MSM. Versus, the vicious unsubstantiated rumors of Palin, that the MSM reports as truth without further research. Vicious attacks on the children of Palin, who are not running for office. Hate-filled attacks against Palin by the left, reported by the MSM. Mmmm… bias much

Like I said yesterday, the party of Byrd is trying to portray McCain as having one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel so they think it’s legit to pit Obama against Palin. Bad strategy, Obama is still going to stutter and stammer through three debates with JOHN MCCAIN.

McCain DID know about Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy before he announced her as V.P. There’s nothing, in fact, that’s come out in the media that he didn’t know beforehand about Sarah Palin. Believe me, there are no surprises to McCain.

As far as Sarah’s daughter’s pregnancy, I think this is something many Americans relate to (especially parents!) And, it is very important that she is choosing to not only have the baby, but to marry the father–a very positive decision as well. To me, this makes Sarah Palin even more appealing as she lives, not as an inside Washington type of politician, but in the real world. That’s right where most Americans live.

THE KIND OF “DECENCY” O’BUNGLER’S DEMOCRATS “STAND FOR”

TURNING KIDS INTO PERVERTS, a la Californica.

THAT IS THE KIND OF “CHANGE” O’BUMMER WANTS TO BRING TO AMMERICA.

We need to fight back by exposing the soul-destroying filth that is the Left.

scott he can’t protect anyone. he is a moron who says alot of pretty words. you have to defend your 6 year old just like the rest of us have to protect ours. god help us if he is elected. one of my dem friends who think he is the greatest thing next to sliced bread admitted she thinks he won’t make it through a term if he is elected. interesting huh?

The whole premise of this string is BS… since when can a leader of any party control what is put on a NON affiliated blog???

Think about it… Can McCain control what Hannity or some other pundit puts on their blog or web site… NO…

you guys are just out to smear Obama for any little thing…

This string holds no value what so ever.

She is a wife and mother. She is the governor. Stay at home moms have daughters that get pregnant. Yes, they vetted her. Look at the facts and put your bias away:

She changed her mind on the bridge AFTER she was elected governor and read over the reports of how a $190 million project went to $400 million. Yes, it was a bad idea and she opted for alternatives. I’ve been to Ketchikan – have you?

The gentlemen (she beat him for governor) that brought the firing of the commissioner to “light” is the one who lost to her in the governor’s election. And, no the Commissioner wasn’t fired. Just opted not to take a different job. The trooper difficulty began before she was governor with a brother-in-law who (1) tasered his son; (2) threatened to kill Sarah’s dad; (3) shot a moose illegally; and (4) drank liquior in his trooper vehicle. The trooper has had difficulties since 2001. No acton from a Commission – a purely political appointment. It comes to light by the man the Governor beats who thought he should be governor in his personal blog. No bias there. Right?

The daughter. So what? Many people have become pregnant. No in Alaska we “do not honor kill” our daughters despite the MSM. We actually encourage the girls to have the baby. What a thought? Bristol has loving parents and is a loving girl. Why do you want to condemn her? I thought only the “Religious Right” did that? Shouldn’t all women stay at home? Why does anyone work? So as governor, Palin should stay home — what about Obama? How old are his girls? Do they need him? What about Biden – is that why your son is under investigation? Because you left him as a child. A man obviously is as responsible for child rearing as a woman or does that only apply to women?

And, so her husband had a DUI at 22. Big deal. How many others have not done worse? Ted Kennedy.

So… there you have it. Sarah Palin is not perfect – nor did she claim to be. She is proud – because they are a normal, average family. They’ve made their money honestly – bought their own home (no help from a questionable realtor). She has fought corruption in a highly corruption filled state and won. She is incredibly capable and smart. Is that what scares you? A woman who can (gasp) not be a lawyer from an Ivy league school, work plus raise a large family and do more then a “Community Organizer.” Take off the blinders. Governor Palin is remarkable – as a candidate, governor and woman. McCain / Palin.

RAP, how can a candidate mobilize hundreds to call a local radio station and trash someone who is doing legitimate research on a presidential candidate? The only BS in this thread is you, go troll somewhere else.

McCain’s denounced ads and lines of partisan attack in the past, and his followers followed him.
Obama has too, but Obama’s followers don’t follow. They pay for the pretty speeches, then ignore what he says; ie that we are all Americans, not red states or blue states, blacks and whites, Republicans and Democrats, but Americans. Dems don’t listen/follow their leader which means he’s not a leader…just a motivational speaker

The Obama campaign went off half-cocked with a rumor that claimed Palin was a Pat Buchanan supporter. The campaign issued a press release which claimed that Palin was a Buchanan supporter and that Buchanan was a “nazi sympathizer”.

PAT BUCHANAN: If they do that, you end the moratorium on Rev. Jeremiah Wright, because Barack Obama’s pastor and spiritual advisor for 15 years did run an anti-Semitic church, does run an anti-white church and has engaged in racist rants. And we were told that, look, this is off the table, those sort of things. And them to have them come up and, come after me, you open up somebody’s associations? You open those up. You open up all of yours.

It must be those infamous “low level staffers”, that Obama has been leading as part of his presidential training, who put out this wonderful POS.

So should we let it begin again … ??

The Politico has released opposition research from the Alaska Democrats which includes Sarah Palin’s social security number minus the last four digits.

Also tied to the information are her various home addresses.

If you remember, back in 2005 the Dims got Michael Steele’s SSN and used it to obtain his credit report.

Neo

I would certainly expect that someone of Palin’s character wouldn’t have anything to do with racist anti-Semite Buchanan.

Apparently, she is accused of supporting him by wearing a campaign button. At the time, she addressed that saying that she was welcoming him to Wasilla, and she did that for any candidate that came there. It was a nothing story then, and hopefully she knows better than to even give the impression of such support now.
http://www.hurryupharry.org/2008/08/29/palin-backed-buchanan-in-1999/

So Ok I think I got it now no more attacks on Michelle Obama and the attacks on Bill Clinton when Hillary was running were not cool and Rush will only talk about positions and not family members.
LOOK whenever ANY person runs for public office ALL of his family and friends are put under the glare of an intense public spotlight. I for one want to know all, and that includes whether he beats his wife or anything else. If the candidate wishes to hide this, he better not run for national office. What would Karl Rove have done with information like that about Kerry? sat on it ? Let’s remember the attacks he faced the ” if Theresa Heinz demanded a pre-nupt before marriage than she obviously doesn’t trust him with her money” I haven’t seen the democrats push that one back on McCain. at least not yet.As for the vetting the man who went to AK spent one day there. Here is what the right wing NewsMAx had to say http://www.newsmax.com/john_leboutillier/sarah_palin/2008/09/01/126759.html

“…whenever ANY person runs for public office ALL of his family and friends are put under the glare of an intense public spotlight.”

…unless they are Democrats.

CASE IN POINT

“Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate Joe Biden’s lobbyist son and brother are accused of defrauding a former business partner and an investor of millions of dollars.”

But, of course, news weenies can’t tell the difference between a non-story about a VP’s daughter who’s getting married to the guy who’s baby she’s carrying and a VP candidate who’s son and brother are crooks.

Also, see my comment here, for more on how the MSM is prioritization challenged…

Barack Obama Unable to LEAD His Followers To Decency

YET ANOTHER APT COMPARISON
…of how the beloved Lefties are left alone, while the hated Right Wing is attacked mercilously.

Hmmm, I wonder how Palin earmarks compare to the three decades of Joe Biden in the Senate?

As to leading people to decency…oh man, if there’s one thing I totally expect a leader to be able to do, it’s to stop his supporters from being indecent.

McCain, in selecting Palin, has chosen a laudable path to the White House; choosing to honor women and moving to break stereotypes in the executive branch of our government. McCain is doing what Barack Obama has only talked about — but then again that’s all Obama ever does.

McCain has thrust Obama into the world heap of insignificance, simply by putting a MIRROR in front of the Democrats. Essentially, the Republicans are showing the Dems who they are and how things are done RIGHT. In doing so, McCain has sent the Democrats into a TOTAL PANIC.

Silly as they are, the Dems are countering almost everything they have said and stood for — but failed to achieve.

Please note that with both Palin’s decision to keep her baby and her daughter’s decision to keep her baby, these women have made their CHOICE.

What Obama, his followers and minions, and the Democrat Party can’t stand is that it is NOT ABORTION!

Thus, these phony people are exposed: They are not pro-CHOICE — they are PRO-ABORTION, PRO-INFANTICIDE, PRO-NO-CHOICE. Nothing could be more revealing.

And, alas, finally — Obama is inexperienced still and HE KNOWS IT!

I’m curious what we can expect Pres Obama to lead people in doing? Can he lead partisan hacks at HuffPo and KOS to support his war in Iraq that lacks a timeline for complete withdrawal? How about his plan to escalate the war in Afghanistan sans a timeline for withdrawal? Can we expect a Pres Obama to get Think Progress and faux Progressives to restrict abortion at all?

With every single post, and every article that centers on Bristol Palin instead of Anbar Province…I see that Senator Obama cannot lead people to do simple things let alone hard ones.

The Uh-Bama campaign has been exposed.

They are guilty of spreading the smears about Palin.

Obama advisers and surrogates have linked Palin to conservative former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan. An Associated Press story from Alaska, dated July 17, 1999, stated that Palin, then the mayor of the small town of Wasilla, was wearing a Buchanan button during a Buchanan visit to Alaska.

But in a letter to the Anchorage Daily News a week later, Palin wrote: “When presidential candidates visit our community, I am always happy to meet them. I’ll even put on their button when handed one as a polite gesture of respect. … The article may have left your readers with the perception that I am endorsing this candidate, as opposed to welcoming his visit to Wasilla.”

A week after that, the Associated Press reported that Palin would serve as a co-chair of Forbes’ campaign.

Still, the Miami Herald this week quoted an e-mail from Obama Florida spokesman Mark Bubriski that stated: “Palin was a supporter of Pat Buchanan, a right-winger or as many Jews call him: a Nazi sympathizer.”

Aye Chihuahua

See my post above on that, above (and the link I give there),
http://www.hurryupharry.org/2008/08/29/palin-backed-buchanan-in-1999/
where she addressed that already at that time, which of course means nothing to the slimers. They know the truth, tell only the part of it that makes the person they want to destroy look bad, and the heck with the rest that vindicates them. THEY ARE DESPICABLE.

What has me ready to hurl is that about half of the country wants to give over control of it to those monsters.

Sorry Yon.

Didn’t mean to double post.

I just wanted to make sure to make the hard and fast connection that this excrement is flowing DIRECTLY from Obie’s people.

He can stand there and say whatever he wants to say, but the actions of his campaign speak more loudly.

Doug, #6 (you all see it late, as I “dug Doug” out of the spam filter…):

You are truly taking the wrong tact if you want to suggest that Palin using lobbyists to work the halls of the Alaskan legislature to benefit Wasilla is some sort of negative. That pig flies as well as the “inexperience” mantra Obama supporters are trying to shove down our throats.

Lobbyists are a fact of political life… some good, some way too powerful. However every candidate, including both Obama and McCain, deal with lobbyists daily…. and acquiesce to them as well.

The difference here is that while Obama acquiesces to, and accepts the support and money of lobbyists, Palin was the executive administrator who hired the lobbyists to stay on point for the issue to benefit the city. Surely you have enough logic to know she can’t walk the halls and talk to the legislators daily herself while running the city.

Palin was working to get a needed task done using the standard political system. Congress members (state or federal) respond for many reasons: believe in the need, payola, or political favors owed or collecting.

You can try and make it slimy by throwing out the catch words, “lobbyist” and “special interest”. But you will be doing your candidate no favors. He has been the darling of more than a few lobbyists himself, as well as the complete Chicago political machine.

I’ll take Palin’s side as an executive administrator any day. At least she was using the system to benefit her constituents. Unfortunately, Congress members tend to use it to benefit themselves… including His Messiahship. He didn’t get this far, this fast, without special interests and beaucoup bucks from the right people in Chicago.

Straws and more straws… I can see I need to go to Cosco to stock up, and get a bigger kitchen drawer.

Feh…

“I just wanted to make sure to make the hard and fast connection that this excrement is flowing DIRECTLY from Obie’s people.” — Aye Chihuahua

Not a problem, at all.

I just wanted to make sure her response to that was kept track of, that’s all. When the AP story first came out, she immediately denied supporting him, and said wearing a candidate’s button was just her way of welcoming them to her town, NOTHING MORE.

I agree with you, and say we should hit ’em hard, and hit ’em often. They have no problem repeating their lies about us, so we shouldn’t have a problem repeating the truth about them.

I thought Obama was about the politics of “change”, but it’s more of the same. If BHO is elected, it will be exactly like the Clinton years. Corrupt, do nothing politics.

Oh… by the way… Palin is more in touch with the common American, than BHO. Nor does she have the elitist attitude.

The far left nut jobs do not worry about decency. They feel that is is their right to be in power, and when they lose an election, they cry, it is because of a vast conspirency using the illegal methods THEY use to try to steal elections. The far left will put out any lie, use any means to belittle that which is greater than themselves.

The real elitist in this campaign is John McCain.. 7 Homes worth 13 million..
yeah he can really relate to hard working Americans… NOT!!!

Having money and owning homes does not make one an elitist. Condescencsion, snobbery, air of superiority as exhibited by Joe Biden and Barack Obama are two stunning examples of an elitist. Now I’ll go cling to my gun and Bible and pray that mama Michelle may someday find that America isn’t a mean country and she can now be proud of it.

You tell ’em, Missy. LOL Evidently Sky55110/Real American Patriot doesn’t realize that many people utitilize real estate like other use stocks and 401KS as investments. I happen to know tons of people that own multiple properties. And not one of them are as wealthy as the Obamas.

Now John? He don’t own squat, but what wife Cindy decides to co-vest on the deed. She has cash. Nothing wrong with marrying for love and getting money as an additional bennie, eh?

Another non-issue…. Sky55110, you are awarded a coupon for three Flopping Aces straws to grasp. Congrats!

Is Sky back?

That’s GREAT news.

It’s been awhile.

How’s the Internet dating scene nowadays?

Have you told your wife about your escapades?

Say what you will regarding her connection to lobbyists, she got earmarks. She is being portrayed as a fighter against them by her campaign, yet the facts are she is not an opponent of them, but a receiver, she embraced them. This makes her statements on the subject sound hollow, hypocritical.

Palin, who was mayor of Wasilla from 1996 to 2002, directed the town (which then had a population under 7,000) to hire the Anchorage-based lobbying firm of Robertson, Monagle & Eastaugh (The New York Times notes that earmarks are “close to sacrosanct” in Alaska).

As governor, the earmarks went to almost 200 million.

She’s hardly “slashing wasteful spending”, as her spokeswoman stated.

Sure, “[l]obbyists are a fact of political life…”, I understand that, but the McCain campaign is portraying her outside all that.

You know it, too.

LEFTY COCKROACHES ON TRUTH SERUM, …AGAIN (Who’s been spiking their KoolAid?)
http://wizbangblog.com/content/2008/09/02/what-motivates-the-evil-radical-left.php

I am prepared to do whatever is necessary to destroy the Republican Party as it exists today as well as everything it stands for.

If health insurance for all, an end to the Iraq War, an end to torture and illegal wiretapping, and a sane energy policy can be obtained at the price of destroying one teenage girl, her family, and the surrendering our self-respect [can’t surrender what you don’t have] I see that as a cheap trade.

Cheap, yes, like all their taudry tricks. They are vile and disgusting conscienceless pigs. The end justifies the means = Commie, NOT “Liberal.” And the “end” is NEVER achieved, only the violence and destruction they commit to “achieve” said “end.”

Their tools, like “doug” think they are fighting for what’s right, or maybe they just like to cause trouble and the heck with being right (more likely). There are good lobbyists and bad lobbyists, just as there are good wars and bad wars. Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be very many (if any) good Lefties. Unlike Reps, some of whom are bad apples, most if not all Lefties (thier leaders, anyway) are crooks.
http://citizenwells.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/obama-bidens-lobbyists-corruption-joe-biden-hunter-biden-attorney-general-beau-biden-michelle-obama-mercy-hospital-dr-robert-weinstein-stuart-levine-more-indictments/

AND SPEAKING OF CROOKS…

…here’s a fellow from O’Bumbler’s district who isn’t any too happy with the failures of the Democrat State Senator during his tenure in Illinois.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jc6Z807cRFI&eurl=http://citizenwells.wordpress.com/

Fact is, Obama WILL “change” things, all right. But you DO NOT want to know from those “changes.”

Doug, you’re imagining things that aren’t there.

Sure, “[l]obbyists are a fact of political life…”, I understand that, but the McCain campaign is portraying her outside all that.

Do show me one quote … any quote… where the McCain campaign suggests she is “outside” getting federal funds for her district… i.e, an earmark. To listen to you, any federal spending on a particular state’s issue is bad juju. The one’s that are bad juju are those that are wasteful spending.

So you resent $200 mil going to Alaska? I only resent it if it was poorly spent. However Alaska roads have a unique problem with permafrost. Their transportation system and road systems require more care than “the average grizzly bear”, so to speak.

Why don’t you show us where you believe Palin mis’spent federal funds to Alaska, or those dreaded “earmarks”.

I will repeat, earmarks are only bad when they are padded with waste. Otherwise, you may as well cut off states from any federal funding whatsoever. That’s the only way you’ll get rid of ear marks.

BTW, have no idea where you blockquote comes from, or what you find so incriminating about it.

straws, straws, straws….. everyone grasping at unbelievably short straws, offering up nothing but BS and inflated nuances of sequestered dastardly deeds.

Desperate…

John McCain touts Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a force in the his battle against earmarks and entrenched power brokers, but under her leadership the state this year asked for almost $300 per person in requests for pet projects from one of McCain’s top adversaries: indicted Sen. Ted Stevens.

That’s more than any other state received, per person, from Congress for the current budget year, and runs counter to the reformer image that Palin and the McCain campaign are pushing. Other states got just $34 worth of local projects per person this year, on average, according to Citizens Against Government Waste, a Washington-based watchdog group.

Palin actually reduced the state government’s requests for special projects this year to 31 earmarks totaling $198 million, about $295 person, in the wake of President Bush’s demand for a cutback in earmarks.

The state government’s earmark requests to Congress in her first year in office exceeded $550 million, more than $800 per resident. But there’s only so much Palin could do with state bureaucrats used to a free-flowing spigot of federal dollars from Washington.

“I have championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress,” Palin said in her vice presidential campaign trail debut last week.

Palin’s current request to Stevens, “would still put Alaska No. 1,” said Steve Ellis of Taxpayers for Common Sense, a watchdog group that tracks earmarks closely.

The McCain campaign said Tuesday that Palin realized that Alaska was too reliant on earmarks and ordered state officials to cut back on their requests. It also said Obama requested nearly $1 billion in earmarks over three years for Illinois — a state with nearly 20 times the population of Alaska.

Please Doug… don’t make me cyber shout to get thru to you, guy. Let me repeat myself…

Do show me one quote … any quote… where the McCain campaign suggests she is “outside” getting federal funds for her district… i.e, an earmark. To listen to you, any federal spending on a particular state’s issue is bad juju. The one’s that are bad juju are those that are wasteful spending.

You come back with…

“I have championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress,”

I repeat, unless you want to cut all federal spending that goes to specific state projects… i.e. EARMARKS… you will never get rid of earmarks.

What is needed is to end the ABUSES of earmarks…i.e. wasteful spending. Otherwise, you might as well ban all federal funds used for roads or whatever in your state, and go it on state funds alone.

You are barking up what you think is a tree, when it’s really a lamp post.

Forgot to add, Doug. It you want to make your point, why don’t you show us where Palin has ABUSED federal funds in spending for Alaska’s needs.

MH, you have not sense of irony, do you?

This is prima facie evidence that ‘things are rotten in Denmark’, if you can see it here, then you can’t see it anywhere.

Later post: It’s not just me, MH. This is the perception that is out there. That’s why the AP ran it.

Doug, it is you who can’t see it. You are going on $ per person as a gauge of earmarks. Even in the AP article you linked, and from the text you quote, she has reduced the $ per person.

But let’s look at that “per person” measure. Alaska’s population is the 2nd smallest in the nation. Only Wyoming has less, per stats.

However Alaska’s population per sq mile is only 1.1.. the smallest. Translation, lots of land, few population. And a transportation nightmare when you consider roads and permafrost. These guys are literally rebuilding roads annually.

The only thing “rotten in Denmark” is your inability to translate a pundit’s mischaracterization of money and needs, and your refusal to see she even reduced that… put in plain English.

First year in office, and no where near the halls of Congress where Stevens and company were busy getting cash, is the first year stats. Takes some time to buck the big boys and establishment, ya know.

Now, as I said, why don’t you show us that… after she reduced the amount of money they were getting from Congress she deemed wasteful… that she wasted what she got from federal spending.

Then why don’t you compare that to your state for us, eh? Here’s the population by state, including the amount of people per sq. Why not do some math for us, then show us her wasteful spending habits.

Until then, you’re still looking up at that lamp post, guy.

While we’re comparing earmark cash… This is the paragraph you didn’t cut and paste.

The McCain campaign said Tuesday that Palin realized that Alaska was too reliant on earmarks and ordered state officials to cut back on their requests. It also said Obama requested nearly $1 billion in earmarks over three years for Illinois — a state with nearly 20 times the population of Alaska.

Sounds dastardly, doesn’t it? Well, I for one, would want to know when Obama had time in his campaigning rock tour to request earmarks for his IL constituents in the last year and a half. But I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Let’s say that $1 bil is $33 mil each year, okay?

IL has a population of 12,419,293 (using the same 2000 stats I used above…). That makes Obama’s earmarks at $266 per person, and Palin’s at $298.

But IL roads and other projects eligible for federal funds are not nearly as maintenance intensive as the Alaskan roads due to the location, topography and weather.

So you’re really not talking about much difference between the two… meaning if you believe Obama is fiscally responsible as the Congressional grantor, then Palin is fiscally responsible as the grantee.

Except that Palin’s request for funds has been declining on the record. Can you say the same for Obama’s?

Oh wait… he hasn’t even been in the Capitol Bldg enough days in his term to establish that record. In fact, since taking his Senate seat, he’s spent two out of his three years campaigning. DOH!

Never mind. Maybe he had a very expensive FIRST year. Uh, that would be over $800 per person. Now where have I heard that figure before?
