Bolton Out

Now we see the results of the election even more clearer.  The UN has no chance now.  None, nada, zip.  They will continue on as corrupt and useless as ever now that John Bolton is stepping down:

Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his temporary appointment expires within weeks, the White House said Monday.

Bolton’s nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans. Sen. Lincoln Chafee), a moderate Republican who lost in the midterm elections Nov. 7 that swept Democrats to power in both houses of Congress, was adamantly opposed to Bolton.

Critics have questioned Bolton’s brusque style and whether he could be an effective public servant who could help bring reform to the U.N.

President Bush, in a statement, said he was "deeply disappointed that a handful of United States senators prevented Ambassador Bolton from receiving the up or down vote he deserved in the Senate."

"They chose to obstruct his confirmation, even though he enjoys majority support in the Senate, and even though their tactics will disrupt our diplomatic work at a sensitive and important time," Bush said. "This stubborn obstructionism ill serves our country, and discourages men and women of talent from serving their nation."

The one man who desperately wanted to really reform this organization has been denied an opportunity.  So now life will go on in that silly fantasyland we call the United Nations.  Problems in the world will continue to be presented to the members who will issue a resolution and then put it in the trashbin.  All because some people didn’t like Bolton’s style.  Rick Moran puts it well:

His “brusque” style? HIS BRUSQUE STYLE?

Lebanon is in agony. Iraq is bleeding. Iran is blustering. Syria is plotting. Russia is swaggering. Hamas is stewing. Al Qaeda is growing. North Korea is disintegrating. Darfur is screaming.

And we’re worried about “style?”

Yup, that’s about it.

But we all know the real reason he is gone.  He was Bush’s choice to reform this place.  He pushed him through even though some of the far left of the lefties hated him.  So after the election the Bolton nomination could not stand.

So while Kofi goes out with his large retirement:

United Nations sources confirm with NewsMax that retiring Secretary-General Kofi Annan plans to "petition" the organization’s pension fund for the largest retirement benefit package in the 60-year history of the U.N.

Annan is reportedly seeking yearly payments in excess of $250,000 for life and intends to file a claim for an additional $1 million for back payments related to earlier duties at the U.N. when he served as assistant secretary-general and, later, as under secretary-general. The latest $1 million request is in addition to the $1 million lump sum Annan already received on that same pension.

The Annan payout is the largest on record at the United Nations.

And his legacy of failures the one man who was just getting started to reform the corrupt organization is being forced out.

Is it time to get rid of the UN or what?

I hate to see John Bolton go. I’m afraid an appeaser may take his place, or someone spineless. I believe the result would be harmful to the nation. In my recent writing on Islamic revolutionry terrorism I disagree with those who say poverty and such is cause. I disagree with those who say Iraq is the cause. I’d hate to see those who blame the wrong things take Bolton’s place.

Bolton resigns

And our best chance to revamp the failing and corrupt U.N. is probably gone with him. It was clear that the Dems were not going to give him a fair vote and President Bush has apparently elected not to push
