The Coward – Part VI

Good news, the coward Pablo Paredes has been convicted of missing a ship movement:

A sailor turned anti-war activist was convicted Wednesday in a special court-martial of refusing to board the USS Bonhomme Richard as it deployed to the Persian Gulf in December.

A military judge found Petty Officer 3rd Class Pablo Paredes guilty of missing his ship’s movement, but dismissed a second count of unauthorized absence, ruling it duplicative.

The proceeding then moved into the sentencing phase. The 23-year-old New Yorker could receive a year in jail, a forfeiture of pay, reduction in rank and a bad-conduct discharge.

Smash has a great roundup of the festivities yesterday outside of the base where all the hippies gathered:

Here are the two questions that I submitted:

Could involuntary military service, in the form of a draft, involuntary recall of reserves, or “stop-loss” ever be justified? Should military members be allowed to resign at any time, for any reason?

and

Is there such a thing as a “just war?” Should the U.S. military be disbanded?

Much to my surprise, they threw out the first question, and chose to read the second one. Their answers were quite revealing.

Aidan Delgado: Couldn’t rule out the concept of ?just war,? but also couldn’t think of a single example. (Er, how about the American Revolution? The Civil War? World War II? Hello?) The military should be used only for self defense, he said, but should not be disbanded.

Camilo Mejia: All war is immoral, because civilians inevitably bear the brunt of the casualties. Disband the military.

Pablo Paredes: There is noo such thing as “just war.” All militaries should be disbanded, and we should start with the world’s largest (Did he mean China?).

Holy christ these guys are dimwits. Someday Pablos Paredes can tell his grandchildren about when he had the chance to serve his country and help liberate those who lived under tyranny he became inspired by Chomsky and put his big ass in a chair while the real hero’s did their work. All the while he availed himself of all the liberties brought by the blood, sweat, and tears of those who were better then him.

What a piece of shit he is.
