The lefty blogosphere has been abuzz lately with Rep. James Sensenbrenner bill to force Judges to sentence scumbags appropiately. As you may expect all of the potheads are up in arms.
From a glance at the bill so far I am all for it and hope it passes. I have seen wayyyy too many times where a liberal judge will let the scum off easy. I can’t count how many times my partner have busted drug sellers with large amounts of drugs in their possession and then see them walk away on probabation. No jail time, no nothing. It’s disgusting. This bill pretty much only goes after those who manufacture or sell dope to kids, or use it around kids.

Sec 2a – Distributing drugs to those under 18 by someone over 21, the sentence shall not be less then 10 years plus
“the court shall not place on probation or suspend the sentence of any person sentenced under the preceding sentence.’ after `not less than 1 year.”
Sec 2b – Distributing drugs to those under 18 by someone over 21 after having being convicted once before for Sec 2a shall be sentenced to life in prison.
Sec 2c – Distributing or manufacturing drugs near schools or public library, or public or private daycare facility, first offence shall be sentenced to not less then 5 years
Sec 2d – Second offense for above crime – shall be sentenced to not less then 10 years
Sec 2e – Using kids to sell dope near schools, library’s and other protected places shall be sentenced to not less then 10 years
Sec 2e(2) – Second offense for the above crime – sentenced to not less then 15 years
Sec 2j – Maintaining Drug-Involved Premises Affecting Children, anyone knowing that the manufacture, distribution, storage or use of dope is intended to involve those under 18 shall be fined not more then 2 million and imprisoned not less then 5 years. If the defendant is the parent of the minor then they shall not be imprisoned less then 10 years.
Plus, It shall be unlawful for any person who witnesses or learns of a violation of sections 416(b)(2), 417, 418, 419, 420, 424, or 426 to fail to report the offense to law enforcement officials within 24 hours of witnessing or learning of the violation and thereafter provide full assistance in the investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the person violating paragraph (a).
`(b) Any person who violates subsection (a) of this section shall be sentenced to not less than two years or more than 10 years. If the person who witnesses or learns of the violation is the parent or guardian, or otherwise responsible for the care or supervision of the person under the age of 18 or the incompetent person, such person shall be sentenced to not less than three years or more than 20 years.’.
So if you learn that there are kids in a house where dope is being sold or manufactured then you go to the slammer if you dont let the police know.
All in all its a great bill. Why anyone would object to protecting kids from this stuff is beyond me but the left is famous for its support of criminals so why should they stop now.
