Emeryville, CA top cop Police Chief Ken James expresses his personal attitude toward weapons; oddly enough, it is remarkably similar to that of the criminal mind and to one of the most ruthless homicidal maniacs of history.
Police Chief Ken James, Police Chief Association’s Firearms Committee Chairman revealed his anti-Second Amendment philosophy at a conference with California lawmakers and Police Chiefs. He maintains that the concept of weapons being used for defense is a “myth”. He also expressed concern over the number of weapons owned by American citizens.
“One issue that always boggles my mind is that the idea that a gun is a defensive weapon, that is a myth. A gun is not a defensive weapon.”
“A gun is an offensive weapon used to intimidate and show power.”
He explained that police carry weapons differently, they employ weapons in a:
“safe and effective manner.”
Of course they had better employ their weapons in a safe and effective manner or be fired, but what of the millions of non-police weapon owners and carriers who employ their weapons in a safe and effective manner?
Does Chief James feel the need to disarm these people as well?
Should they be denied the right to defend themselves because Chief James feels strong totalitarian impulses; he certainly understands the ability of a weapon to intimidate and show power. Could those criminal factors be used by government to consolidate power and control over a civilian population? You better believe they are used by Socialist regimes on those who don’t willingly submit to the precepts of political correction and propaganda.
These words, “A gun is an offensive weapon used to intimidate and show power” is an appreciation of the power of a weapon by the criminal mind, and not just the mind of a two bit punk criminal, but the far more dangerous criminal, the political criminal. The political criminal knows that when the public is disarmed they are defenseless. One of the most tyrannical political criminals and homicidal maniacs of all time, Joseph Stalin, understood this concept and used it to subjugate and kill tens of millions of his own people. He is still considered a hero by the Left, and his quotes still permeate the Leftist philosophy of today in public education and political discourse. The same concepts of Stalin are being used by totalitarian types as they express their need to control others and consolidate power.
Here are famous quotes from Stalin, read them and see how similar they are to the Leftist philosophy of today.
Joseph Stalin:
We don’t let them have ideas. Why would we let them have guns.
Ideas are more powerful than guns. We don’t let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.
The people who cast the votes don’t decide an election, the people who count the votes do.
I trust no one, not even myself.
The only real power comes out of the barrel of a rifle.
The Pope? How many divisions does he have?
If the opposition disarms, well and good. If it refuses to disarm, we shall disarm them ourselves.
Print is the sharpest and strongest weapon.
Education is a weapon whose effects depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.
If they bring a knife, you bring a gun. Punish your enemies. Whoops, those are from Obama.
There is a similarity in the thinking of all those who wish to control others. It is not only the authoritative mind, but it is the also an integral part of the criminal mind as well. They indeed know weapons can be used to control people, since “A gun is an offensive weapon used to intimidate and show power,” especially if your victims are unarmed.
A professional horseman for over 50 years, Skook continues to work with horses. Skook has finished an historical novel, Fifty Thousand Years, that traces a mitochondrial line of DNA from 50,000 years ago to the present. The story follows a line of courageous women, from the Ice Ages to the present, as they meet the challenges of survival with grit and creativity. These are not women who whimper of being victims, they meet the challenges of survival as women who use their abilities without excuses or remorse, these women are winners, they are our ancestors.
Fifty Thousand Years is available in paperback and e-book, it is getting great reviews. You can purchase a copy here; Visit me on Facebook.

Skook, he is a lefty from CA. What would you expect? Like the rest, he was not challenged with critical thinking in the CA Liberal education system.
@Randy: I will bet, he is wishing he kept his Second Amendment opinions to himself by now. His email and phone numbers are all over the web, and such ludicrous ideas will be resonating all across the country.
Mark Twain was right when he said, “if people think you might be stupid, don’t open your mouth and remove all doubt.” (paraphrased, but close enough)
Next door to Emeryville, Oakland has been having travails with a police force reduced by a number of circumstances, which some residents (and vocal non-residents) would like to see hamstrung further. It’s residents, particularly the small shopkeepers in the more run-down and cultural capital-challenged parts of town, could do with more ability to intimidate and show power. Intimidating and showing power is what every citizen should be able to do in the event of encountering a criminal. In those immortal words … “I can’t believe I have to explain this.”
@Beth just south of Berkeley and just east of San Francisco: And – if I remember correctly — Emeryville is Oakland’s Oakland
That chief is an ass, and I would have had a very short career working for him or his kind…
. . . but Skook, why wouldn’t they? They know what is best for your well-being and for your happiness. They know so much better than you do. After all, along with insecurity, they suffer from knowitallism.
The insecure mind has to feel some sense of superiority and power, and can only do so to the detriment or subjugation of others. An inferiority complex is one hell of a deficiency and it wreaks havoc on everything around it if allowed.
@Scott in Oklahoma: I agree Scott….unbelievable.
@Curt: #7,
Given your experience and perhaps some familiarity with this pandering Chief’s neighbourhood plus your ability to read between the lines, you might shed light on what is really occurring behind this politically driven veneer.
For two weeks every year during the month of November, my semi-auto 30-06 is an offensive weapon. During the other 50 weeks it’s a defensive weapon and the same goes for my muzzle-loader. During my Cruiser and Destroyer days, there were times we were an offensive platform (launching Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles) and other times we were purely defensive, tucked in close to the Carrier to provide Air Defense and hunt subs. This Police Chief is an idot.
@Tpuller: You might explain to some people who don’t have a clue why this offensive phase is in November. It has been a while since I have written an outdoor story. They might be confused and bewildered. LOL
@James Raider: Did you notice that Stalin didn’t trust anyone not even himself. He died because he wouldn’t allow doctors to treat him because of trust. I doubt if they wanted to work on him anyway. Death by mysterious means was all too common for his associates.
Yes, being insecure and unable to trust in yourself or others is a core ingredient for those who hope to gain control, as they wait with their list of enemies they plan to liquidate at the first opportunity. Read the commentary at some of their blogs and you can see the insecurity and desire to gain control.
Skook,
Good point. It’s the 14 days during the year we’re allowed to hunt the elusive Odocoileus virginianus, otherwise known as the white-tailed deer.
@Tpuller: Now that’s my kind of humor!
I like the hunting season in BC, we start on August 15 with moose, shut down a couple of weeks in October for the moose to let their libidos run wild and continue on with elk, white tail, black bear (limit of 5) mule deer and grizzly with primitive weapons into December. There’s hardly time for geese, ducks, ptarmigan, and grouse but if you are a determined hunter, you can get in some bird hunting as well. It varies according to the zones, but I am from the far North.
Packing out a moose requires three pack horses or a damned good wheel barrow and a strong back. I don’t live there now, but hopefully, I will retire soon and move back to the hunter’s paradise. You don’t need a tag for wolves and coyotes, but you would be damn lucky to get a shot at a wolf without setting out bait and waiting in a stand.
@James Raider: Scott is a cop also, I believe retired if not correct me Scott.
As for this dummy, Beth laid it out. The city he the chief of is a REAL small city that borders Berkeley, in the Bay Area…the most liberal far left area of this leftist state so it’s no surprise.
Don’t forget these:
@Curt: I use to live a few miles east of Danville, but I’m not familiar with the ‘enforcement’ agencies around Oakland and the current state of their puppeteers.
Evidently the liberal party line must be towed by pliant guys like Ken James, but I wonder about the guys on those streets and their own feelings about rights being taken from them. The progressive mindset is eroding and decaying the citadel of freedom, but when both the police and the military want to remove your final line of defence, the long term picture is assured to be ugly.
@Skook: #11,
. . . . here comes the Valerie I’m-the-real-President Jarrett version of retribution. The coming four years aren’t going to be pretty.
And now, for the rest of the story: According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 square miles, of which, 1.2 square miles of it is land and 0.8 square miles of it is water.
The 2010 United States Census reported that Emeryville had a population of 10,080.
I wonder how many miles they put on a patrol car in a year. You could almost put the whole city’s land mass in the infield of the Indianapolis 500.
It won’t take long for a rookie cop to learn the city. It shouldn’t take too long to learn everyone who lives in the city.
Do you think they have radio dispatched patrol cars or rely on hand signals.
Unless Chief James shoots a deputy, this is his one chance to make headlines.
@Skook: Skook #18: What never ceases to amaze me is the puppeteering of these wannabe small town (10,000+ population) cops that earns the lowly police chief four 4 stars on each shoulder; as if he thinks he is a big time general. Talk about delusions of one’s own assumed self importance. My goodness, next he will be seeking a “Purple Heart Medal” for getting hit by shrapnel from his own aimlessly fired “hollow Points”. Please, someone connect him with the Honorable (Not) Horseface himself for self-promotion lessons.
@Marine72: Thanks, I thought the same thing about the 4 stars, but I can’t be the only one to beat him about the head and shoulders.
Horse Face can mentor him on getting purple hearts in case he might get burned from hot brass under intense target practice or feel a piece of hot lead by standing too close to a worn out revolver being fired. There’s all kinds of opportunities if a guy knows how to play the game.
LOL
@Skookum: Here’s the lowdown on the collar brass. There is no standard, every uniform design is individual to the department. As a task force guy in Florida and a cop in New Jersey before that, I got to see a lot of variety in uniform design. Skook and Marine are correct; more stars, larger ego, harder to work for, less efficient, smaller balls and more into micro-management. The difficult part with those guys is they gear their entire career towards their goal of being chief. Most of the time they suck as police officers and investigators, yet claim to know it all. And they take that “expertise” to the big office, impressing no-one but themselves. We’ve all known people like them…
While I was working yesterday, I was thinking of this “collar brass” issue and vaguely remembered a picture of the LA Police Chief wearing 5 stars during a tv interview. Now that’s an ego!
Stalin would figure he had a lot of divisions.
A cop with a sense of humor:
‘I chase him, I bite him’… the crime report written by a DOG: Officer investigated after submitting witness statement in character as animal
Prosecutors had asked for account of crime from ‘PC Peach’ – a dog
Form completed as if written by Alsatian and signed with paw print
Report pinned up at police station and shared on Twitter
Officer behind joke referred himself to internal discipline unit
SKOOKUM
HI,
I like that one, it’s unusual also,
I bet there will be more coming
bye
