Trump Fires Back After Mattis Scorches Him: ‘World’s Most Overrated General’

Loading

President Donald Trump is firing back after being lambasted by former U.S. Department of Defense Secretary James Mattis.

On Wednesday night, Trump took to Twitter with a series of tweets in response to Mattis’ criticism of his leadership and the civil unrest across the United States.

Noting that Mattis was also terminated by former President Barack Obama, Trump described Mattis as “the world’s most overrated General.”

“Probably the only thing Barack Obama [and] I have in common is that we both had the honor of firing Jim Mattis, the world’s most overrated General. I asked for his letter of resignation, [and] felt great about it. His nickname was ‘Chaos’, which I didn’t like, [and] changed to ‘Mad Dog.’”

He went on to criticize Mattis’ leadership as the president insisted he is glad that Mattis is gone.

“His primary strength was not military, but rather personal public relations. I gave him a new life, things to do, and battles to win, but he seldom ‘brought home the bacon’. I didn’t like his ‘leadership’ style or much else about him, and many others agree. Glad he is gone!” Trump continued.

Trump’s tweets came hours after Mattis’ statement where he expressed deep concern about the country.

IT’s becoming a badge of honor to be called “most overrated” by Trump.
Mad Dog Mattis and Colin Powell start a list I’ll update as defections accelerate,

June 7, 2020 – Colin Powell: Trump has ‘drifted away’ from the Constitution

He’s got to drift away. Were it to happen all at once, there’d be no chance of getting away with it.

General Colin Powell is just one more on a growing list of American patriots who have felt compelled by their growing concerns to make public statements. These are people whose words merit close and careful attention. They are not motivated by partisan politics.

June 7, 2020 – Colin Powell’s criticism means four ex-chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff have now bashed Trump

WASHINGTON — When former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a retired Army general, rebuked President Donald Trump on Sunday, saying he had “drifted away from the Constitution,” he became the fourth former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to speak out against Trump’s desire to use active-duty soldiers to confront protesters.

According to several military experts contacted by NBC News, it is unprecedented for so many former top military officials to criticize a sitting commander-in-chief harshly and publicly.

“It’s unusual for any flag officers, or indeed any former officers, to speak out against the commander-in-chief,” said David Segal, the founding director of the Center for Research on Military Organization at the University of Maryland, saying officers generally try to remain apolitical. “In the 50 years I’ve been studying the military, I can’t think of a precedent.

“And the fact that there hasn’t been any pushback, I think, is even more telling,” he said. “I don’t see any controversy from the ranks or from society.”

Former White House and State Department official Heather Hurlburt agreed.

She said that when there have been heated public debates in the past about how the military should be used, they have not provoked the same response from flag officers. She cited the large protests against the Vietnam War, the transition from the draft to an all-volunteer force, the Reagan administration’s actions in Central America, the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” and the decision to allow women to serve in combat.

Hurlburt, now at the New America Foundation, said that when such controversies occur, former Joint Chiefs chairmen definitely make their views known in private. However, she said, “it’s rare for any to speak publicly, and in none of the instances above did four speak out.”

Powell’s statement Sunday followed criticism of Trump from more than a half-dozen former flag officers, including retired Navy Adm. William McRaven, commander of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden; Trump’s own former defense secretary, James Mattis, a retired Army general; and three other former chairmen of the Joint Chiefs.

On Tuesday, retired Navy Adm. Mike Mullen called Trump’s desire to use active-duty forces to suppress protests “sickening.” Retired Army Gen. Martin Dempsey called it “dangerous” and “very troubling” in an interview with NPR on Thursday. Retired Air Force Gen. Richard Myers said the tear-gassing of protesters outside the White House on Monday night filled him with “just absolute sadness” and said he was glad he was not advising Trump.

Segal sees a change in the military and thinks it is being drawn into politics more than in previous generations.

“I think it clearly is a break from the past,” he said. “The question is whether it portends a change in direction or a reflection of this particular moment in time and this particular president.”

@Greg: So?

“And the fact that there hasn’t been any pushback, I think, is even more telling,” he said. “I don’t see any controversy from the ranks or from society.”

This is what maters. Some military officers believe they are God and anyone who disagrees is wrong, especially a civilian President. Glad I am not one of these officer greggie the rock! Again, this is just like you global warming by consensus “facts”.

@Greg: Powell voted for Obama and Hillary. He’s about as Republican as you are now. Anyone that would vote for a known liar, criminal and traitor like Hillary (to his defense, Powell probably didn’t know that about Obama the first time, but should have the second time) has NO credibility in any possible forum or topic.

Some good video footage of the aftermath of the peaceful protests and the riots that never happened. Anyone claiming that there were only a few bad people is either a liar or grossly misinformed and should cease making comments on a subject matter they obviously know nothing about.

@another vet, #106:

The Gateway Pundit is well known as a far-right manure spreader, cranking out an endless steaming stream of conspiracy theory, disinformation, fake news, and slanderous accusation. They claimed ISIS was behind the Las Vegas shooting; they misidentified the driver of the car that rammed the crowd in Charlottesville, resulting in so many death threats against the victim of their journalistic incompetence that he and his family had to go into hiding; they falsely identified the mass shooter at Stoneman Douglas High School as a registered Democrat; they falsely identified South Dakota arsonist and bomb-maker Mark Einerwold as a leftist with Antifa connections, when in fact he was anything but. They have constantly pushed the lie that there’s evidence of massive Democratic voter fraud. They reported that Christine Blasey Ford was out to get Kavanaugh because his mother, a district court judge, had ruled against Ford’s parents in a foreclosure. No such ruling ever occurred. Two Gateway Pundit writers were involved in scheme to smear Robert Mueller with false sexual misconduct accusations; Gateway Pundit published an article falsely claimed they had evidence that would back the accusation up.

If you want to feed your popular far-right delusions and conspiracy theories, Gateway Pundit is definitely one of the places putting out the free kibble.

colin powell

Who cares?

My vote cancels his

Yeah, but your faulty understanding doesn’t cancel out Colin Powell’s keen perception that there’s a threat.

@Greg: Powell supported Hillary. I can excuse his support for Obama because, at the time, Obama wasn’t known to be totally corrupt and anti-American. But he supported Hillary when it was KNOWN she lied to Congress, got Americans killed due to her incompetence, PROBABLY got a massive bribe to approve the sale of our uranium to Russia and absolutely mishandled classified information. That is inexcusable for any American, but totally destroys Powell’s credibility. Sad to say it; I had a lot of respect for Powell… turns out, he’s just another swamp creature.

It kind of looks like the generals who were, you know, actually there, have a different perspective on the matter than the ones who weren’t. Look at the number of arrests in DC in one day. That’s a lot more than a few.

@another vet: It is much easier for greggie the rock to believe in fairy tales instead of photos and facts.

@another vet: Remember when Greg when crazy about some soldiers getting concussions from the Iranian half-assed “please don’t retaliate and incinerate us, we’re just showing off” response to the killing the number one terrorist in the world? His useful idiots causing concussions by hurling bricks from hiding in a dense crowd don’t concern him much. They had it coming because… George Floyd.

@Deplorable Me:

@Randy:

George Floyd stopped being a factor in this long ago. The Soldiers had it coming because his comrades did it. The Communists are watching each others backs during their insurgency. CBS claimed in their interview with Barr yesterday none of this happened. Three of their reporters who were there said so. They are all liars.

@Deplorable Me:

Sad to say it; I had a lot of respect for Powell… turns out, he’s just another swamp creature.

Powell proved that when he lied to the UN about weapons of mass destruction. And when he knew that it was Richard Armitage that leaked the name of Valerie Plame to Novak but never informed the President that he knew.

Powell wanted to be a major player. General Schwarzkopf knew that Powell didn’t have what it took.

@Deplorable Me, #110:

None of which is true. Seven full-blown, taxpayer-funded Benghazi investigations, and they all came up empty. No evidence could be found of wrongdoing on anybody’s part. The last one was such an appalling embarrassment for the GOP that they didn’t even have the guts to add a Conclusions section. None of which mattered to Trump, who was willing to double down on every damn lie on their list, not giving a rat’s rear end whether it was true or not.

And he found his audience—like-minded Clinton and Obama haters willing to believe every lie that came out of his mouth in spite of no evidence, or even in spite of evidence to the contrary. He lied his way into the White House and hasn’t stopped lying since.

He lied to you about COVID-19, telling you it would just go away, then doubling and redoubling and doubling yet again the fatality predictions as they hit the numbers epidemiologists had told us we might see all along, provided social distancing directives were adhered to. Those directives we have likely blown off too soon, despite the warnings, Now they’re seeing sudden large spikes in Arizona, Utah, and North Caroline—states that jumped on the reopening bandwagon earliest. The same thing may be happening in Texas.

The right-wing government of Brazil is trying a new approach. They’re not allowing the statistics to be reported. Now there’s an idea we might want to consider.

@Greg:

He lied his way into the White House and hasn’t stopped lying since.

You’re right and Obama is not going to stop lying anytime soon.

@Greg: Well, no. The Benghazi investigations didn’t come up empty. We learned quite a lot. YOU simply chose to ignore it.

We learned Hillary had ample warnings about terror threats. We learned Stevens wanted more security or to be extracted. We learned weapons were moving through the consulate. We learned there was a chance to rescue those trapped there but the administration wouldn’t do it. We learned they all knew it was a terror attack by al Qaeda but lied to the American people; Hillary even lied right to the face of grieving loved ones. Obama was already reelected. Hillary should never have been a consideration.

Trump never lied about COVID19… HE was lied to, by the Chinese and WHO. Besides, it WILL go away. Based on how Democrats totally disregarded it to exploit Floyd’s tragic death, it HAS gone away. No, the only ones lying about COVID19 has been the Democrats, but nothing unusual there; they lie about everything.

Forget blaming reopening the economy for any resurgence of the virus. YOUR people erased that. The economy was reopening gradually, carefully, measured and with precautions. Then, for the past week and continuing, leftists decided there was no more epidemic. They, upon command, flowed out in the thousands, packed tightly, screaming, spitting, spreading anything that existed far and wide. If reopening was going to create a resurgence, your racial exploitation, insurgency and rebellion sure made that a moot point. Nice job.

So, what to restrictions on reopening the economy mean? Nothing. Pointless. Open it wide open and watch the economy EXPLODE. At least folks like you will get to see what a recovery was SUPPOSED to look like.

@Greg:

OK, Comrade Greggie, you say that I offer you no meaningful discussion. So let’s have one, shall we? I promise I won’t call you an idiot.

What do you think it the main reason for the lack of success in black communities?
Do you apologize for your “white” privilege?
What do you think can be done to improve the lives of black people?
Do you think that discrimination against whites will solve the problem?

And my last question;
how many jobs did Mitt Romney offshore that could have gone to people of all races, ethnicities and creeds and does his marching with BLM absolve him from that?

Show me your willingness to have a meaningful discussion.

@retire05: Watching this challenge with interest.

@Randy: Frankly, I don’t expect Greggie to respond to my questions and if he responds (at all) it will be some mumbo-jumbo vague non-specific drivel not direct responses that any sane person would give.

@retire05: That is why I gave up trying to elicit any sane answers from a rock!
