Trump Fires Back After Mattis Scorches Him: ‘World’s Most Overrated General’

Loading

President Donald Trump is firing back after being lambasted by former U.S. Department of Defense Secretary James Mattis.

On Wednesday night, Trump took to Twitter with a series of tweets in response to Mattis’ criticism of his leadership and the civil unrest across the United States.

Noting that Mattis was also terminated by former President Barack Obama, Trump described Mattis as “the world’s most overrated General.”

“Probably the only thing Barack Obama [and] I have in common is that we both had the honor of firing Jim Mattis, the world’s most overrated General. I asked for his letter of resignation, [and] felt great about it. His nickname was ‘Chaos’, which I didn’t like, [and] changed to ‘Mad Dog.’”

He went on to criticize Mattis’ leadership as the president insisted he is glad that Mattis is gone.

“His primary strength was not military, but rather personal public relations. I gave him a new life, things to do, and battles to win, but he seldom ‘brought home the bacon’. I didn’t like his ‘leadership’ style or much else about him, and many others agree. Glad he is gone!” Trump continued.

Trump’s tweets came hours after Mattis’ statement where he expressed deep concern about the country.

@Rich Wheeler: Randy beat me to the answer. He obviously had sour grapes. His statement wasn’t based on any facts but rather on something that hasn’t happened yet. This has not been militarized and there are far more than a few rioters. He also failed to point out what Constitutional rights have been violated. He also needs to read up on history. I pointed out five instances of Presidents using the military, some good, some bad. I do disagree with Trump’s response. Rather than touting how he fired him he should have picked apart his argument piece by piece the way I did. It was very easy to do. I like Mattis and kind of feel sorry/embarrassed for him.

@Randy:

May have been a good general, but was fired by two presidents.

Mattis should take being fired by the only anti-American President in history (Obama) as a compliment. Speaking of Obama, he isn’t looking very healthy.

@Rich Wheeler: Those polls, lol You take the bait everytime.
I dont have much time to play with your head today amusing easy as it is, heading out til sometime next week.
Try to use your military training in strategy what is this really all about, sure looks like a classic SA style regime change attempt in all its tired CIA style propaganda and organized chaos. Most likely funded by Bidens friends in communist China.
All property owners are oppressors, what insanity, you own a house are you an oppressor?
The Democrats are all in for this chaos across the country yet you still stand with them?
Food for thought Richie poo, I dont expect a response, Just watch the news out of DC tonight.

@Randy: “releaved sic of their responsibilities.”
Trump claims he fired Mattis—a lie

AV—No need to feel sorry for Mattis—one of most beloved and revered Marines since Chesty.
Mentioned to my wife how bad BHO looks—-hope you are well

BTW—like yourself Mattis is widely read

@Deplorable Me: To understand what Mattis wrote for the Atlantic, you have to know that while he does love the Marines, he’s a leftist at heart. He supports the global warming agenda, is hostile to Israel, shied away from fights with the mullahs, wanted so-called transgenders in the military, wouldn’t leave Afghanistan, and ultimately quit because he wanted to keep U.S. troops in Syria (reminder: the disaster leftists predicted for Trump’s pullout never materialized).
Dead cops and looting of American cities means nothing to him. He might as well don a bit of lipstick and steal a Marinettes pantyhose.
Nothing but a political panderer of the lowest kind.

Donald Trump has potentiated all of the dysfunctional negative forces in America that have led up to the news of the past week. Exploiting fear, resentment, anger, and societal divisions has been the source of all of his political energy from the start. Were he ever to fully succeed in consolidating his tools of domination nationally, he would then move on to exploiting fear, resentment, anger, and divisions on a global scale.

That’s what the November election is about. We’ve got serious challenges ahead as a nation, even if we’re all working together.

@kitt: Your poll Black 41% approval–as Greg might say batshit crazy.

You say “Floyd 5 time loser”–does that include the knee to his neck?

Enjoy your time away–much needed I’m sure

@Greg: MSLSD rhetoric how predictable, still unimpressed keep scraping the bottom of the China propaganda networks brother.
Come up with examples for insane accusations, you will sound less like a screeching Karen.

@Rich Wheeler: I think it is called releaved of their responsibilities when another is appointed to do the work. Being afforded the opportunity to resign is how it is done in the civilian world. Kitts post #54 explained this well. If you need someone to explain what happened in depth in simple words, let me know. I can get my grand daughter. If you think he is the best since Chesty Puller, you have been deceived.

@Rich Wheeler: @Randy: It’s relieved Col.

Hard to believe a Field Grade Officer could make that mistake. Maybe your grand daughter could help.

@Rich Wheeler: sometimes word check makes a mistake.

@Randy: Have you never seen relieved of command Colonel? Blame it on someone or something else. That a trait of our current POTUS.

Re Mattis—ask ANY Marine who has served with him.

@Rich Wheeler: When a general officer believes he is God and knows everything, that is when he fails. No, I have never been relieved from any position.

If you look at what Mattis did, he should have suffered more. General officers are always subject to military justice. He forgot who is the commander in chief of the armed forces. He also forgot that there is criteria in the Constitution that allows the Commander in Chief to use military force to restrict insurrection. I expect that beating up US citizens and burning cities can be considered insurrection, especially when it is experienced outside of the White House. Mattis violated his oath of office.

@Randy:

sometimes word check makes a mistake.

Oh, but you don’t understand, Randy, Wheeler, Comrade Greggie and one other that comes here are the self appointed typing/spelling police.

@Randy: Mattis is retired Waited almost 2 years

to tell us what he thought of POTUS Just another citizen

Btw Said seen not been

@Rich Wheeler: The military all objected to Trump pulling our troops out of Syria, where we should never have been in the first place. If you recall, ISIS should have overrun the entire region by now, along with Turkey, destroying the Kurds. Hasn’t happened. Trump was right, they were wrong.

The military don’t want to see US troops deployed in US cities; it is a bad sign. Indeed it is; it is a sign the the Democrats have reached a new low. I don’t want to see that either but, unlike them, I realize there are few other options. The worst of the problems are all in Democrat cities and Democrats are either too gutless to address the issue or are using the violence and chaos to further the agenda of undercutting the Trump administration and save them from watching their Biden flop fail at the polls. I guess unlike them, I know the purpose of the military is to perform support duties to release more civil police for the peace keeping. Perhaps they, too, are in the insurrection business.

@Deplorable Me:

Apparently, Wheeler has forgotten the oath he took as a Marine:

I, (state name of enlistee), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. (So help me God).”

Got that? All enemies; foreign and domestic. Does Wheeler want to tell us that Antifa and BLM are not domestic enemies? Yeah, let him make that argument.

@retire05: Perhaps insurrectionist looters herded about by Democrats aren’t his enemy.

@Rich Wheeler: He should have known what he was talking about before he shot off his mouth!

June 6, 2020 – Trump demanded 10,000 active-duty troops deploy to streets in heated Oval Office meeting

In a heated and contentious debate in the Oval Office last Monday morning, President Trump demanded the military put 10,000 active duty troops into the streets immediately, a senior administration official told CBS News. Attorney General William Barr, Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley objected to the demand, the official said.

In an attempt to satisfy Mr. Trump’s demand, Esper and Milley used a call with the nation’s governors later that morning to implore them to call up the National Guard in their own states, the official said. If these governors didn’t “call up the Guard, we’d have (active duty) troops all over the country,” this official said.

That same day, the Pentagon started bringing in 1,600 active-duty troops to bases just outside the District of Columbia. Late that afternoon, Esper and Milley were on their way to the FBI’s Washington Field Office, where the command center for the military and law enforcement response to the protests was located, the official said. En route, they received a call to come to the White House to give the President an update.

They did not brief the president, but they were asked to stay for his address in the Rose Garden and then to accompany him on the walk across Lafayette Park to St. John’s Church. Milley had been wearing his dress uniform in the morning but changed to his combat fatigues because he knew it was going to be a long night at the FBI command center, the official said. Neither man realized the purpose of the walk was to stage a photo op in front of the church.

On Wednesday morning, after two nights of peaceful protests, Esper ordered 700 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to return to Fort Bragg, and then delivered a statement in the Pentagon briefing room that he was opposed to using the Insurrection Act to send active-duty troops into the streets.

Esper was saying in public exactly what he had been saying in private to the president, but Mr. Trump was furious with him at a White House meeting later that morning, the official said.

After the meeting, Esper reversed his decision to send the 700 troops home – not because of the president’s anger, but because he had received reports that protesters were planning a million man march on Washington for Saturday.

After another night of no violence in the streets, Esper again gave the order to send the 700 paratroopers back to Bragg and on Friday gave another order to withdraw all but 350 of the troops who had been placed on alert.

The remaining 350 are members of the Old Guard permanently based at Fort Myer, Virginia, just across the Potomac River from the District, and they were placed on a lower state of alert.

The man is a loose cannon on a storm-tossed ship.

@Greg: And you point is greggie the rock? The President is still the commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

@Randy:

He has no point. He simply finds articles written about what one of his left wing outlets (CBS) says some anonymous source told them. Frankly, there used to be days when “sources” were revealed and journalists didn’t write crap like ” a senior administration official told CBS News.”

So remember this; while David Dorn was lying on the concrete bleeding out, people like Comrade Greggie refuse to even address the black lives snuffed out by other blacks.

Comrade Greggie has NEVER disparaged either Antifa or BLM.
Why? Because he thinks their actions hurt Trump’s chances at reelection and that is the most important thing to scum like Comrade Gregge.

@Randy, #70:

He is a Commander in Chief who cannot give orders to the military in violation of constitutional law and expect them to be obeyed. There’s the point, if you were having trouble finding it.

He cannot get away with turning active duty military troops against the nation’s own citizens. He’s lucky somebody stopped him. We’re all lucky somebody stopped him.

@Greg:

June 6, 2020 – Trump demanded 10,000 active-duty troops deploy to streets in heated Oval Office meeting

Glad someone is not only dedicated to protecting US citizens from left wing Democrat useful idiots but is enthusiastic about it.

@Greg: Maybe you should read the constitution greggie the rock. He has the authority to use the US military to combat enemies foreign and domestic. When there were attacks upon the defenders of the White House, I would consider that to be an insurrection. You must always enjoy being wrong.

The protesters are American citizens. They are the American people, as much as Donald Trump or any of his followers. What do you not understand about this?

@Greg: What do you not understand greggie the rock about domestic enemies attacking the US government? That is called insurrection. That allows the Commander in Chief to call up active duty troops to suppress the effort. They may be citizens, but they are also criminals when they attack government employees, burn cities and disrupt the elected government. Keep making these stupid comments greggie the rock.

The United States Marines will Never deploy against U.S citizens on American soil.

Ol “.can’t remember which foot it was” knows this Foolish bluster

@Rich Wheeler: I sincerely hope that is never necessary, but if liberals continue to support international organizations that are indoctrinating US citizens to revolt against the US government, that may be necessary.

@Randy, #78:

Before our military leaders turned on our own citizens and our nation’s Constitution, they’d remove whoever was crazy enough to give them such an order.

@Greg: CONCUR
Ol bone spurs not gonna risk it.

@Greg: Depends on the damage the people did. Do you silly asses remember the Civil War?@Rich Wheeler: Old RW can’t remember history either.

@Randy:Civil War
You that old Col?
I’ll stick with my 77
Semper Fi

@Rich Wheeler: The differences between us RW is that I am aware of history. You are not. When an organization that has been considered international in scope is attacking the people and police in 350 US cities and looting and burning buildings to the ground, and the effort is supported by US Citizens of the US, that is serious. Keep on supporting ANTIFA liberals and even the Marines will tire of having their family businesses, homes and cities burned and destroyed. These demonstrations are not about a black man killed by a white policeman. That is just an excuse. You can joke about the current situation like many did in Germany during the 1930s.

@Greg:

He is a Commander in Chief who cannot give orders to the military in violation of constitutional law and expect them to be obeyed. There’s the point, if you were having trouble finding it.

But his order IS Constitutional. It follows the law.

The protesters are American citizens.

They are in open insurrection. They are in rebellion against the lawful government. The very first riot should have been put down forcefully and violently. Few would have followed. For certain, when confronted with police or equal force, ANTIFA runs and hides and they have been instigating most of the violence. Anyone caught in rebellion should have their citizenship revoked and sent to GITMO. They don’t want to be in this country anyway.

One thing has been made abundantly clear. When Democrats are faced with an epidemic, they totally failed to face the challenge. First, they simply do the exact opposite of what science and common sense direct, congregating MORE and opposing closing our borders to additional infection. Then they oppose proper medications and protecting the most vulnerable. Then, on a dime, they demonstrate they are either incapable or refuse to protect innocent lives, property and their own revenue streams. Democrats have PROVEN they care more about their own politics than ANY life in America. What complete idiot would EVER vote for ANY Democrat? Thank you for the demo before the election.

@Deplorable Me: SInce when do you or Trump care about science?

The National Guard does a great job as needed fufilling their mission
Absolutely no reason to Call The Marines

@Rich Wheeler: Oh gee knower of all things Marine. Washing DC is federal. There are different rules there. Also oh know it all. When the Marines were called up for the LA riots I suspect that you and your buddies thought that the rioters and looters were not US Citizens or at least deserving of citizenship. Otherwise, why would the Marines fight against US Citizens?

@Randy: I am in agreement with the Ovewhelming number of General Officers who are against mobilizing ANY FED troops for this protest

@Randy: I am in agreement with the Ovewhelming numbet of General Officers who are against mobilizing ANY FED troops for this protest

@Rich Wheeler: The difficulty is that this is no longer a protest. It is an insurrection. Just because you disagree, doesn’t make it a valid deployment. When did you take the poll, before the businesses of the families of the armed forces were destroyed or before? You have lost your perspective a long time ago!

@Rich Wheeler:

I am in agreement with the Ovewhelming numbet of General Officers who are against mobilizing ANY FED troops for this protest

You need to substantiate that statement. How many General Officers are there (total from all branches) and then list the names who are “against mobilizing ANY FED troops for this protest” as you claim.

Just for once, Wheeler, back up your claims with documented proof.

I can admire people with a valid cause tp protest. This turned into much more than a protest very quickly. The media, celebrities, and liberals who supported the burning, looting and assaults against the police, secret service and park police as well as the national guard are contributing to an insurrection , not just supporting a protest. If the federal government does pursue ANTIFA as a terrorist organization and uses the RICO Act, there will be a lot of liberals who may be prosecuted.

@Randy:

A lot of people would do well to remember the Civil War.

There is no insurrection. “The insurrection” is a Trumpian stage prop.

There have been widespread protests. There has been civil disobedience. There has also been looting and criminal violence committed by some people under cover of the disturbances, and unwise, reactionary responses on the part of some authorities and law enforcement personnel that have made matters worse.

That is not an insurrection.

I m in agreement with current Sec Def Esper as well as Sec Powell,Mattis etc
Oppose Sen Cotton

@Rich Wheeler:

@Deplorable Me: SInce when do you or Trump care about science?

I love science. Trump followed what the scientific experts were telling him to do to address the epidemic. This hasn’t always worked out that well; the shut down is but one glaring example, especially in light of how all the science advocates suddenly decided it didn’t matter. So, it is the LEFT that doesn’t know what science is.

But a mayor or governor with actual concern for the safety of the citizens has to call the National Guard. When they won’t, or when they won’t allow them to perform their functions, someone that actually cares for the American people instead of about watching a violent left wing upheaval commence has to do what has to be done. Democrats have absolutely failed in every aspect of leadership. That was a very good lesson to be taught just before a major election.

@Greg: Sorry, no, WRONG. This is an insurrection, one the Democrat party is leading, inciting people to be in revolt against the US government. It should be crushed and woe to anyone that chooses to be near it.

@Greg: Gret your rock head out of your butt greggie. ANTIFA has been doing this for some time. They just took advantage of liberal ignorance and moved up their time table. When they are in 350+ cities burning and looting as well as injuring police and civilians, this is an insurrection. I can understand why greggie the rock can not undestand.

@Rich Wheeler: I am sure you opinion based upon liberal reporting will make a difference.

@Deplorable Me, #95:

Haven’t you heard the latest? The White House has now clarified that Trump never said he wanted to call out active duty troops. Trump has ordered the armed National Guard contingents out of DC. Apparently the insurrection has been cancelled.

June 7, 2020 – Trump Orders Troops to Leave D.C. as Former Military Leaders Sound Warning

@Randy: Let’s hope so. Good to see Trump on board with this issue

You still got Sen Cotton—anybody else?

@Greg: Numerous cities are now defunding their police. What do you expect happens after that; criminals no longer see the sport in committing crimes if the police aren’t there to oppose them? No, they will prey on the poor with impunity and those people (many black) will be eternal victims… just like the Democrats prefer. The goal of the far left has always been the breakdown of civil society so the police state can be created. They already showed how they are willing to trample due process and the rule of law to destroy political opponents. Now they will destroy the community forces that protect the populace to incite violence, chaos and insurrection.
