Poll: Voters say Washington is worse than Wall Street

In the minds of likely voters, Washington, not Wall Street, is primarily to blame for the financial crisis and the subsequent recession.

That is the key finding of this week’s The Hill poll, which comes as the national Occupy Wall Street movement — a protest that objects to risky practices and excessive salaries at major banks, along with American income disparities in general — enters its second month.

The movement appears to have struck a chord with progressive voters, but it does not seem to represent the feelings of the wider public.

The Hill poll found that only one in three likely voters blames Wall Street for the country’s financial troubles, whereas more than half — 56 percent — blame Washington.

Moreover, when it comes to the political consequences of the protest, voters tend to believe that there are more perils than positives for Obama and the Democrats.

A plurality believe that the Occupy Wall Street movement will hurt Democrats and Obama in the 2012 election. Even those whose sympathies lie on the left of center seem unsure about the likely political repercussions. Just half of all liberal likely voters — the group most likely to blame Wall Street for the recession — and fewer than half of all Democrats believe the protests will help their side next year.

And we will all march in lockstep to the polls at the next election and vote most of them, or more of them right back in. And then bitch! God forbid that we actually put some ordinary people with common sense, courage, and respect for their fellow citizens in there.

Reuters, Monday, October 17:

“Anti-Wall Street protests have won broad support among New York City voters, who would overwhelmingly favor tougher regulations on the financial industry, new poll results showed on Monday.

“Sixty-seven percent of those who responded to a Quinnipiac University survey said they agreed with the Occupy Wall Street protesters, who are upset that banks were allowed to earn huge profits after being bailed out during the recession, while average Americans remained under financial strain.

“An even wider margin, 87 percent, agreed with the protesters’ right to camp out in Lower Manhattan, as long as they obeyed the law. The movement began staging rallies more than a month ago…”

GREG, hi,
of course you find in UNIVERSITY the minor group to agree with that kind of
paid and sustained crowd protesting ,but like MR CAIN said before, they where at the wrong place, they should have protest at the WHITE HOUSE protesting the elect majority over their failed governing methods,
that goes against AMERICA’S PEOPLE which they are a big part of, but few of them paying tax, and many of them taking from the taxpayers’s money, meaning non contributers going on a rally to the wrong park, to
be lead like ignorant sheeps to help OBAMA, UNIONS LEADERS, SOME KNOWN CRIMINALS ACTIVIST AND THEIR FRIEND FOR A FUN GAME TO DISRUPT THE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS, OF NEW YORK,
of course you get good review and excuses from those who belong to the group,
what else would you expect? other than they will do anything to win the next election,
but they just made a step back instead of gaining votes.
