Leftist Dems backtrack on Ukraine diplomacy push after less than a day…

Thread via Glenn Greenwald

In response to intense bipartisan anger over the letter they issued yesterday on Ukraine, House Progressives issue a new statement vowing full and complete loyalty to Biden’s war policies and full support to funding war in Ukraine without limits:

“In a letter to President Biden today, my colleagues and I advocated for the administration to continue ongoing military and economic support for Ukrainians while pursuing diplomatic support to Ukraine to ensure we are helpful partners on efforts to reach ‘a solution that is acceptable to the people of Ukraine.’ Let me be clear: we are united as Democrats in our unequivocal commitment to supporting Ukraine in their fight for their democracy and freedom in the face of the illegal and outrageous Russian invasion, and nothing in the letter advocates for a change in that support.

“Diplomacy is an important tool that can save lives — but it is just one tool. As we also made explicitly clear in our letter and will continue to make clear, we support President Biden and his administration’s commitment to nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.”

In other words, bipartisan anger that “progressives” in the House Dem Caucus might have some very mild critiques on Ukraine led them to immediately vow full loyalty to the leader.

So the only dissent on Ukraine continues to be on Fox, parts of GOP, and small sectors of the left.

Imagine being elected to Congress based on promises of challenging “the establishment” or whatever, then being so petrified of anger from bipartisan DC establishment mavens that you can’t even wait 24 hours before meekly retracting the only mild dissent you’ve expressed.

There’s vastly more debate within the Republican Party — not just on Ukraine but on most topics — than there is within the Democratic Party. It’s not even close. The tolerance level for even the smallest dissent in Democratic Party political and media circles is close to zero.

The vast majority of Republican members of Congress and voters support Biden’s war policies in Ukraine. More than 80% of Senate and House GOP voted for it. But at least there’s some dissent, some debate — in their political and media circles.

There’s *zero* dissent among Dems.

I won’t be that surprised if, before the end of the day, @RepJayapal announces that she and the rest of the House Progressives are getting tattoos of Volodymyr Zelensky and the Raytheon logo on their bodies to repent for their momentary lapse of loyalty:

They couldn’t even hold out for *24 hours*. What a complete humiliation. Joe Crowley must be sitting in his lobbyist office cackling each time this happens:

Holy shit! The humiliation of @RepJayapal and the House Progressive Caucus just got worse, even when it appeared it couldn’t.

Her degrading reversal of their Ukraine letter after 1 day wasn’t enough. Now they’re formally “retracting” it, blaming staff.

Honestly, I’d rather resign my seat in Congress than subject myself to a spectacle this humiliating. They couldn’t even stand behind the slightest war dissent for 24 hours.

Also, this statement is a lie: the vast majority of GOP fully supports Biden’s war policies in Ukraine.

It’s really worth thinking about what happened with the Progressive Caucus. They popped their heads up with the mildest, most deferential and most tentative questioning possible on the war in Ukraine.

And for that, they were forced to abase themselves twice, and did so eagerly.

Many forgot how repressive was the climate around the War on Terror and Iraq. That was a major reason I began writing about politics in 2005.

But today’s environment – not just on Ukraine but generally – tolerates almost no dissent. They were forced to “retract” and blame staff!

MAGA republicans will kill funding to the farce that is the Ukraine Bieber skirmish. democrats want to keep the money laundering spigot open to fill their pockets as fast as they can.

Enough money has been wasted. Time to put the
Money into the hands of hard working Americans. bidens inflation is causing every worker in America to lose an entire month of pay and the workers have done nothing wrong.

Yep. MAGA republicans are under Trump’s influence, and Trump has always pandered to Putin. Trump is the guy who talked tough and imposed irrelevant treasury restrictions on four Russian oligarchs for show, while systematically lifting or failing to enforce those sanctions that actually mattered.

Trump is an aspiring autocrat. Let him in again and we’ll NEVER get rid of him or the autocratic tools of the rising American oligarchy that follow him. He knows and admires Putin’s game plan. Elections will become a sham, just as they are in Russia, and the 1 percent who already own and control 1/3 of everything in America will control YOU as well. Unlimited money will buy them unlimited power.

Give War a Chance! House Democrat Progressive Caucus Withdraws Letter to Biden Calling for Peace Negotiations with Russia Over Ukraine

Mainstream Democrats understand where failure to stand up to Putin will lead. We either stop him now while we can, or regret that we didn’t later.

Democrats are utter failures at diplomacy, war mongering, money laundering and insider trading is a specialty.
Trump did not have an isolationist agenda there were actual peace treaties hammered out. Rocket man was not blasting his missiles over Japan. NATO members were finally made to pony up for their own defense.
It does not have to be a black or white hate Putin or love him choice, it can be give peace a chance and bring Mr. First Strike Zelensky back to reality. I would like to see the little begger back to his dancing career.

MSNBC Guest Compares Republicans Running on Fixing Inflation Crisis and Solving Economy to Hitler and Nazis

Fixing inflation is what raising interest rates is about. The truth is that there is no painless way to do it. The fundamental truth is that we’ve chosen endless borrowing over raising taxes. Instead, we’ve cut corporate and high-end taxes even when deficits were surging. Trump’s record addition to the national debt is a perfect example of how well that works.

Last edited 1 year ago by Greg

Tax receipts have set record levels. You never cease to amaze at your stupidity. It’s the spending that’s out of control and Biden wants more of it. Tulsi figured it out and got out.

James Carville admits democrats are going to lose…

If so, the real losers will be retiree’s, women, children who fear the next school shooting, America’s working families, and traditional Republican conservatives. The wealthiest, Donald Trump, and Vladimir Putin would be the biggest winners.

Sounds like nothing will change. They have upped the interest rates, how exactly has it slowed inflation, Eggs are now 3.59 a dozen up 10 cents from last week. Fuel oil rationed, supply of Diesel down to 25 days, farmers use a lot of diesel and crops are coming off the Fields. Some electric charging stations are run with diesel generators.
Get right down to it democrats dont seem to know there is a supply chain, or what drives it.

democrats with their profligate spending and becoming energy dependent have created the economic turmoil we are now experiencing

Are you aware that inflation is GLOBAL, and that the rate is currently higher in most nations than in the US?

Biden isn’t the cause of inflation, and Donald Trump—who ran up more debt than any one-term president in modern US history—sure as hell isn’t the solution. For Trump—who has business debts of more than $1 Billion dollars—inflation is a solution. He can what he owes with devalued monopoly money.

Inflated consumer prices are also part of his path back to power. The higher the cost of your eggs, the better his chances of a glorious comeback.

Last edited 1 year ago by Greg

Yes clueless he was the cause, moving away from oil and cutting the production drove the price of energy too high too fast, the producer uses fuel, it is delivered with fuel, they are not and can not eat those costs and remain in business. Those costs run down the supply chain and consumers are the end of the line, hitting those on a fixed income the hardest.

18 straight months of declining wages is bidens fault.

In the lame duck following historic losses this November, democrats will go on an orgy of spending knowing they may be a minority for decades.

Democrats are fractured, problem is they turn their coats inside out and call themselves Republicans those are also known as RINOS

How do you account for the high inflation rates everywhere else?

You seem to see only what you want to see, and to deny the reality of whatever you don’t. The GOP shamelessly exploits that tendency. They haven’t promoted actual solutions to any of our problems for years. It’s always the same song and dance, election after election, while they corral their base with a handful of emotionally charged hot-button issues. Sooner or later, they’ll get back to their campaign to get evolution out of our schools, because it’s contrary to fundamentalist thinking and “only a theory”.

Herschel Walter: “At one time, science said man came from apes, did it not? If that is true, why are there still apes? Think about it!”

Last edited 1 year ago by Greg

I account it for green weenie policies again The EU became dependent on Putin not themselves for fuel, they were warned by then President Trump of this folly, funny how energy prices also went up there with the sanctions, but prices did not sky rocket in Russia who are more self sufficient.
Do you think the only place on the planet without NG under the ground is the EU?
Who is it that is blindfolded?

Who is Herschel Walter?
Stacey Abrams known election denier likes to think hospitality and farming are not good jobs.

Inflation is NOT high “everywhere” else, and those countries with a higher rate than the US always track higher anyway.

The world is connected to the American dollar, and America has much to do with how that currency behaves.

The inflation has been caused by many things, not the least of which being the actions of the Biden regime.

Like Iraq (who was going to sell oil on the gold-standard to France), we’re going to war with Russia over currency. They are rejecting the dollar and that’s the real war.

The average global inflation rate for industrial nations is currently 8.8%, and expected to reach 9.9% by the end of 2022.

I recall similar bullshit being pitched here about the Great Depression, to the effect that it was only in the United States, was a result of Democratic policies, and had nothing to do with the rise of fascism in Europe.

The current U.S. rate of inflation for the year is 8.202%—nearly the same as the global average.

Vote Republican! Trump, Putin, the January 6th rioters are counting on you!

After the disaster that has been the Biden regime, and a Dem House and Senate, what do people have to lose?

Blue states are turning red anyway, because this has all gone too far.

Democrats:

  • Hyper-inflation
  • replacing on energy cartel with their own
  • getting us into needless wars
  • black and national crime back up to Obama levels, and higher
  • High gas prices
  • pushing for a one-party police state
  • Open border to the south
  • rampant voter fraud

The one thing that Democrats fear the most is democracy. Vote them out, and also make sure we catch these bastards when they lie, cheat, and steal…

Republicans are the people making it law that raped women must give birth to the children of their rapists, and THAT is a FACT.

In the words of Herschel Walker, devout pro-lifer who has paid for his girlfriends’ abortions, “Think about it.”

You’re such an idiot. Perhaps you would like to give us the percentage of abortions that are performed due to rape? I doubt it. It would destroy your masochistic excuses for supporting abortion.

That the GOP has FORCED ITSELF into the lives of young women to such an extent is what matters. If you’re a woman forced to carry your rapist’s child, the percentage doesn’t matter. If you’re a woman forced to give birth to a doomed child with catastrophic deformities, the percentage doesn’t matter. If you’re a pre-teen girl forced to carry the product of incestuous rape, the percentage doesn’t matter.

It’s no one else’s business if ANY pregnant woman decides not to continue a pregnancy. It’s HER conception, HER body, HER conscience, and HER OWN personal decision—not that of any church, meddlesome fundamentalist neighbor, sexually insecure male yahoo, or any posturing right-wing political figure pandering to all of the aforementioned.

Last edited 1 year ago by Greg

That the GOP has FORCED ITSELF into the lives of young women to such an extent is what matters. If you’re a woman forced to carry your rapist’s child, the percentage doesn’t matter.

It absolutely does matter. But you’re more fixated on killing an unborn child than worrying if the raped woman a) got immediate medical/psychological treatment b) reported the rape to law enforcement and c) was getting psychological follow up so that her life has a chance of becoming normal again. Your motto: “Kill the kid, ignore the rapist.”

Also, it is not Republicans who fired firefighters, nurses and many other workers because they refused to take the jab of a serum made by drug companies that have immunity to lawsuits if their serum damages/kills.

RCP says republicans will gain 53 House seats and the Senate.

If they do, come January you’ll see just how incredibly screwed up and internally fractured the GOP actually is. With no one left to blame but themselves, they’ll tear their party to pieces.

Most Leftists are brainwashed. Democrats would never win an election without Colbert, The View, or Mark Zuckerberg.
In fact, if those people came out and said “Trump is awesome,” everyone of the blue-haired fat women and trans men that make up the Democrat base would say “okay! I love Trump now!” overnight.
They are that simple. It’s about the heard, and the religion it foists on them.

EXC: Advisor To Hunter Biden-Linked Consulting Firm Working For Ukraine’s Burisma Nominated To Biden’s Media Advisory Board.
comment image

The White House nominated a Senior Advisor to Blue Star Strategies, a controversial consulting firm with ties to Hunter Biden that worked on behalf of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma, to serve on the U.S. Agency for Global Media’s International Broadcasting Advisory Board.

The nominee, Jeffrey Gedmin, worked at the Democrat-run consulting firm when it began operating on behalf of Burisma in 2015. Emails obtained from the “hard drive from hell” reveal that Hunter Biden played a crucial role in the scandal-plagued energy firm’s decision to hire Blue Star Strategies, with U.S. lawmakers flagging the partnership for potentially influencing then-Vice President Joe Biden’s policy towards Ukraine.

Blue Star Strategies’ work for Burisma triggered an investigation by the Justice Department for allegedly engaging in unregistered foreign lobbying on behalf of its Ukrainian client.

If confirmed, Gedmin would have the ability to influence the content produced by the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), as the International Broadcasting Advisory Board is the highest-level advisory group to the agency’s CEO.

The seven-person board advises the USAGM CEO on “improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the Agency and its programming” as well as “consulting” on the agency’s “strategic plans.”

Formerly the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), the USAGM uses its nearly $1 billion taxpayer-funded budget to operate outlets including Voice of America, Radio Free Asia, and Radio Free Europe, which reach hundreds of millions of viewers across the globe.

Gedmin joined Blue Star Strategies in 2014, a year before the firm began working for Burisma, and a press release revealed he would “work on a variety of client issues including matters in Europe and the Middle East.”

While it is unclear if Gedmin ever explicitly aided Blue Star Strategies’ Burisma efforts, he has penned several articles and spoke on panels focused on Ukraine, often calling for the U.S. to intervene in the country’s affairs with Russia.

In 2015, he authored an op-ed “Let’s Go “All In” on Ukraine” calling on the U.S. to support Ukraine militarily and politically.

“To get back to a vision of a Europe whole and free we need to do three things. First, arm Ukraine. […] Second, return to a strategy for Europe whole and free. Current NATO members in Central and Eastern Europe deserve our fullest political and military support. […] Third, develop a multi-faceted strategy to move Russia toward rule of law at home and responsible behavior abroad,” he writes.

Peddling similar talking points, he authored the op-ed “How the GOP Abandons Ukraine” in 2016 and “In Ukraine It’s Not Merely About Ukraine—Which Is Why the West Must Respond” in 2018.

He also spoke at the Open Ukraine Foundation in 2018, which lists its primary objective as “improving [the] international reputation of Ukraine and increasing its promotion abroad.”

Given Blue Star Strategies’ ties to Hunter Biden, it calls into question how, if confirmed, Gedmin could influence the USAGM’s coverage of stories related to the first son’s hard drive.

The Democratic Party is controlled by the sort of people who chose to stop Hitler, and who recognize Putin for exactly what he is.

Republicans have signaled that they’ll let Putin have what he wants, just when all indications are that his “Special Military Operation” will be the end of him. Why not? Putin is a very smart man, who recognizes a really good real estate opportunity.

Yay, Trump!

Trump has nothing to do with this

Putin did not invade until Biden was installed F*ck off commie What’s more important to Biden? Freeing a basketball star from a Russian prison, or preventing you, your loved ones and billions around the world from a nuclear holocaust? Biden refuses to discuss preventing WWIII with Putin, but will happily talk to him about convicted drug criminal, national Anthem hater Griner. *uck off commie

Last edited 1 year ago by kitt

Putin’s invasion and occupation of Ukrainian territory didn’t begin in 2022. It began in 2014 and escalated in August 2016. The 2022 invasion never would have occurred if Clinton had been in the White House. She never would have cut Putin the slack that his admirer Donald Trump did.

Democrats were thwarting Putin’s ambitions to make Ukraine part of a new Russian Empire long before Trump took office. Meanwhile, Trump’s future campaign manager, Paul Manafort, was doing the exact opposite, for pay. THAT is a fully documented FACT. Then you’ve got Mike Flynn, another Putin admirer, who was promptly appointed as Trump’s National Security Advisor. As if concealing contractual arrangements with foreign powers and sucking up to Putin weren’t enough to tarnish is record, Flynn publicly pledged a lunatic pro-Trump QAnon Oath in 2020, putting it online for all the world to see.

Ah yes, that’s the new troll-drivel I’ve read going around the internet.

TRUMP KEPT PUTIN IN CHECK. HE DIDN’T INVADE ON TRUMP’S WATCH. THAT’S A FACT.

Putin invaded because Biden and NATO are weak, but still expanding.

It’s pointless to ponder what Putin would have done if Clinton succeeded in her illegal installation in our WH. Irrelevant.

Trump is the FOREVER 45th President of the United States, and Clinton is not.

Democrats caused this war and voters will remember over the next few weeks.

Notice he skipped over the part why the Donbas in 2014 voted to become a republic, the Dem coup of the President of Ukraine.

We know who he is and we did not sign off uranium or provide a silicon valley.

?!??

References to right-wing conspiracy theories. They believe Clinton sold 20 percent of our uranium to Russia. Apparently they haven’t heard that Silicon Valley companies cut off Putin’s supply of microchips, or that Biden has signed legislation to expand domestic microchip production to free us of reliance on foreign suppliers.

Republicans predictably fought against passage of the CHIPS Act, claiming it was a Big Government move to pick winners and losers, and interference with free markets.

Putin has his opponents murdered. Remember Alexander Litvinenko? Boris Nemstov? Probably not. Aleksey Navalny survived his attempted poisoning. A shared proclivity for political murder likely explains why Putin and Mohammed bin Salman are such good buddies.

As well as Bidens election? Where are all his voters when he was stumping?
Get a brain cell.

Biden doesn’t hold mass rallies. The Democrats have a party, not a personality cult. He’s a working President, not a reality TV celebrity. Nor does he have to repeatedly tell his supporters how smart they are, and how stupid the opposition is.

Hes a patient, couldnt hold a mass rally cause he tries to shake hands with all of his ghost voters.

Cult?

Last edited 1 year ago by TrumpWon

That’s the lamest flex of all time.

So we’re all clear….Obama is great because he had a crowd once and they took pictures. Trump is BAD and “small” because no one likes him, even though he has lots of rallies and has, empirically, lots of support.

Biden has no crowd, and is thusly better than Trump (even though Obama had a crowd) because his people are “working” or something…the laptop and unemployed white women that make up the bulk of his “constituency” after you subtract the igloo cooler votes, software glitches, and the like (probably 50 million votes, maybe).

Sure.

It was a free concert with free beer. obama was not the main event.

Trump is bad because he’s trying to destroy American democracy with a lie, and took it to the point of launching a violent mob at the Capitol to stop the constitutionally-required electoral vote count—after pressuring state elections to find him the votes he needed, pressuring the DoJ to announce that the results were fraudulent, and setting up phony electors in multiple states who would step in and provide phony results. People got killed during his Special Election Operation. His extremist tools were inspired to make threats against the lives of election officials and their families.

Now he’s delaying and obstructing multiple state and federal investigations while attempting to fill critical elected positions with his followers, in hope that a new republican majority can kill all investigations. He will then make another play for the presidency.

And that isn’t the half of what he’s done.

Uh, no. Trump was duly elected against the wishes of the establishment, and they’ve failed to indict and jail him on invented charges.

He’s innocent and you know it.

Trump IS American democracy. The people you support are not.

We get to choose. Not some two-bit jerkoff that posts on the internet name “greg”, and his unelected Euro-trash masters.

You’ve got ZERO credible evidence for Trump’s BIG LIE, while there’s overwhelming sworn testimony from Trump insiders that he tried to overturn legitimate results by illegal means. You can easily figure out who his co-conspirators were by their refusal to tell what they know under oath. They know damn well that what they did was immoral and unlawful.

History will record that his followers were either deluded, idiots, or traitors—and there’s likely a lot of overlap. More may be traitors than I think, given their enthusiasm for stepping out of Putin’s way.

The 2020 election was rigged. Most Americans know this.

Trying to say “nuh uh, it was TRUMP who did it!” is fucking asinine. You people will get what you deserve.

AMERICA IS NOT A DEMOCRACY. the word democracy is not found once in any founding documents. That wont be significant to morons.

The word “republic” doesn’t either. “Republican” appears only once, in article Article IV, Section 4, and only in reference to state governments.

The word “republic” comes from the Latin term res publica, which doesn’t imply as much about the specifics of government structure as you probably imagine. Look the term up.

Last edited 1 year ago by Greg

What did Benjamin Franklin say,
Silly silly ignoramus?
With no hesitation, Franklin replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.” Not a democracy, not a democratic republic.

The problem being that democracy is an essential component of any actual republic.

If representatives don’t act in accordance with the will of the people, you have neither a republic nor a democracy. The two things cannot be separated as it appears you would like. If the will of the majority doesn’t rule within the context of constitutional law, you no longer have a republic.

Trump is neither a democrat nor a republican. He’s an aspiring autocrat. There was a plot to replace democratically chosen and state-certified electors with phonies.

“democracy – a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.”

Last edited 1 year ago by Greg

Does that make the US a democracy? Nope, nor was it designed to be a huge central power of ABC departments full of unelected assholes making regulations and “laws”

“American democracy” is a reference to our election process, not to “a democracy” as opposed to “a republic.” It’s not an either/or proposition, because you cannot have one without the other.

Representatives are elected by the will of the majority that they represent. Throw the results of a democratic election out and let phony electors decide, and you no longer have an actual republic.

Last edited 1 year ago by Greg

Anyone who took basic civics lows we are a representative republic. The mere definition of democracy is antithetical to self governing vis a vie representation.

Our representatives are democratically elected, as the U.S. Constitution ordains.

They have unconstitutionally delegated their duties to unelected government employees.

They’re called administrators and civil servants. Delegation is how everything works. It’s the only possible way that things can work. You can’t even run a mid-size town without delegation of duties and authority, let alone a county, state, or nation of 332 million.

This was one of Trump’s problems. He thinks he knows everything. That he’s some sort of universal expert.

Who voted to allow CDC agencies to make rules that put people out of business? They had no science to back those decisions.

Democracies are based on “rule of law.” The ANCIENT GREEKS (particularly ARISTOTLE) valued NATURAL LAW, the notion that human societies should be governed by ethical principles found in nature. The Greeks are famous for practicing DIRECT DEMOCRACY, a system in which citizens meet to discuss all policy, and then make decisions by majority rule. However, only free males were considered to be citizens. So their democracy was certainly limited. Today direct democracy is practiced in New England town meetings, where all citizens of voting age meet to decide important political decisions.

But how could direct democracy work in a large, diverse population spread over a geographical distance? Generally, the answer has been that it can’t. In its place, the AMERICAN FOUNDERS put “indirect” or “representative” democracy. In this system, REPRESENTATIVES are chosen by the people to make decisions for them. The representative body, then, becomes a manageable size for doing the business of government. The Founders preferred the term “REPUBLIC” to “democracy” because it described a system they generally preferred: the interests of the peopled were represented by more knowledgeable or wealthier citizens who were responsible to those that elected them.

Where are all his voters when he was stumping?

Living their lives. Working.

However many people came to Trump’s rallies, and however many boat parades there were, it didn’t add up to enough voters to beat boring old Joe Biden.

77 million, Democrats have yet to prove Biden won and now are admitting the machines can be hacked. If Biden had won they wouldnt have fought every audit, handed the machines over for forensics not sent hundreds of lawyers to prevent open honest questioning of the results.

Trump remains the most voted for man in American History.

He got the most legal votes….ever.

Dictator Biden is no one’s president. It shows on the world stage.

But hey, enjoy the decline. You’ll being paying the price for this Treason, like the rest of us.

It is a violation of the constitution to delegate powers only granted to congress to unelected bureaucrats. Bureaucrats enacted regulations that can have the force of law upon citizens is contrary to the Constitution. EPA v West Virginia decided 6-3 by the Supreme Court affirmed the violation of the Constitution by the EPA There will be more of these cases that challenge the assumed authority of several bureaucracies that inevitably will dismantle the administrative state.

Nondelegation doctrine

The doctrine of nondelegation is the theory that one branch of government must not authorize another entity to exercise the power or function which it is constitutionally authorized to exercise itself. It is explicit or implicit in all written constitutions that impose a strict structural separation of powers. It is usually applied in questions of constitutionally improper delegations of powers of any of the three branches of government to either of the other, to the administrative state, or to private entities. Although it is usually constitutional for executive officials to delegate executive powers to executive branch subordinates, there can also be improper delegations of powers within an executive branch.

All of the alphabet agencies should be defunded and eliminated. The states can better manage their affairs without the intrusion of the federal government. The founders never envisioned the type of federal government we have today. That is the reason for the enumerated powers explicitly established in the Constitution.
