New York City: Cuomo’s and DeBlasio’s biggest failure

I’ve said it before. New York has a hapless Governor and a clueless Mayor. They’re running around wailing about the ventilators they need and don’t have while the not using what they already have on hand.

In the mean time, they are allowing the Chinese virus fire that is COVID 19 to continue to spread unabated through the city. This is something else I’ve said before. NYC has an Achilles heel.

Mass transit.

Mass transit is the blood of the city. The city cannot live without it. It is used not just by commuters, but by all kinds of essential personnel. It has to used in far more wise way.

This is a video of the current subway service in the city.

A fed-up straphanger went off the rails on social media over recent packed city subway cars, trashing the MTA for its alleged shoddy service and posting videos of stuffed trains in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re all going to f–king die,” the woman says in a YouTube clip shot Friday. “Packed. And then you continue to say 6 feet away from each other. How is this possible?

“How is this possible with the MTA?” said the woman, who described herself as an essential health care worker who commutes from the Bronx to Queens. “Last week, the trains were empty. And now, this week, it’s packed. This is (a) death trap, and we have to go to work. And you have people waiting 20 minutes, a half-hour in between, because MTA workers are sick.”

Someone says

“Gov. Cuomo, how serious are you?” she said. “The MTA has to be addressed.”

Damn right.

Because the subway service has been cut back, the cars are jammed as is seen. This is counter to the necessary 6 feet of social distancing needed to help “flatten the curve.”

New York City has to expand service and strictly limit the number of riders on each car. This sounds draconian, but it is not done NYC will lose many more than they already will.

There is no question that MTA workers have suffered, but they are critical and they need help. Full blown respirators need to be given to subway operators and their cabins sealed and properly disinfected. This is one place the National Guard could of service.

Something has to be done with the subways or New York will be destroyed.

Metro train of germs, something California doesnt have. Nobody walks in LA everyone has a personal car https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/world/2016/11/24/california-traffic-jam-nightmare/
There is a very good reason Californias numbers are lower. Their subway systems are not as extensive as NYC.

New York hasn’t yet used all the ventilators on hand because the number of critical patients requiring them has not yet exceeded the inventory. Projections indicate that in approximately one week it will, at which point the growing number of patients requiring them will immediately turn into part of the growing fatality count.

Is Cuomo supposed to refrain from mentioning that looming situation? Maybe he could shrug and explain to the public that ventilators only delay the inevitable.

How should the ideal liberal person live?
He should wake up in a very small efficiency apartment located in a densely populated high-rise, eco-friendly building where there’s no fresh air because you can’t open the windows.
Then he should give his reusable, eco-friendly container to a barista who fills everyone’s order without changing his gloves (to save plastic) or washing his hands (to save water).
He then rides to work in jam-packed subway car.
He gets his lunch from a crowded deli where he orders food prepared and served by illegal aliens who have never been screened or tested.
After work he walks thru a homeless encampment filled with excrement and sick people to get to a family-owned grocers where he fills his reusable, filthy bag with dinner makings.

No wonder these liberals threaten to cough on fresh produce and expose Trump supporters.
There’s few other ways those conservatives can get exposed.
(But there are a few, like when those Mormon missionaries come back to Utah to be “love-bombed” by huge crowds of adoring friends & families. Thus Utah has a relatively high infection number given our population total.)

@DrJohn, #4:

Thing is, if he doesn’t do something with the subways he won’t have enough of anything.

What can he do about the subways? In normal times, on any single weekday, 5.5 million New Yorkers rely on subway transportation. That can be reduced, but you can’t shut down the only means millions of people have of essential travel. It’s not as if the risk isn’t recognized.

@Greg: The New York subway cars are cleaned by hand, overnight. New York City subway car interiors are cleaned by hand. The New York Times found that it takes a single worker three and a half hours to clean a subway car interior, and it’s done every eight to ten weeks.ewwwww
Well thats not germy as they allow people to jump the turnstiles and not pay so they could hire more people to clean then more often.
Did you miss

Because the subway service has been cut back, the cars are jammed as is seen.

Just nothing can be done throw up your hands and dont look at the facts.
New York reported that when one local decided to swipe subway poles and see what microorganisms turned up, he found everything from ordinary mold to Staphylococcus aureus, a bacteria that can cause skin infections and food poisoning. And when scientists took samples from subway stations, the Wall Street Journal writes, they found 114 unique bacteria—including strains associated with meningitis and urinary tract infections—at the Times Square station alone.

@Greg:

What can he do about the subways? In normal times, on any single weekday, 5.5 million New Yorkers rely on subway transportation

I read or heard somewhere that people are supposed to be sheltering in place. Is this everywhere but NYC? Don’t even try; there’s NO EXCUSE.

New York may have to be cordoned off and cauterized. They are dooming themselves.

@Deplorable Me, #8:

You have had no need to venture from your home on occasion to fill a prescription, drop a bill in the mail, or buy groceries?

This is also true of people living in a city of 8.6 million. Then there are all of those who have to go to work in order for essential services to continue.

@Greg: I’ve gone to the store. I’ve done shopping for my inlaws that are quarantined. I don’t see thousands of people out, either. I go three or four days without going anywhere. Like I said, there’s no excuse and you do yourself no favors trying to invent one. NYC should expect no sympathy from the rest of the country; they’ve worked very hard to create the conditions that are going to kill a lot of them.

Here’s something else that is going to happen that they won’t like; because of their irresponsibility, the rest of the country will get up and running long before NYC and NY. Lots of critical businesses are located in NY. People that depend on them are going to be forced to find other sources, which will cause many of those businesses to relocate or go under. This stupidity is going to put a BIG hurt on NY for a long time to come.

I take it you seldom wear an I ❤ NY tee shirt with your Trump hat. I guess I never will get the hostility some people display for specific parts of their own country. I realize it’s a political herding tool, of course.

@Greg: Yeah, for the life of me I can’t understand how liberals living on the coasts can display such disgust and superiority for those living in between when THEY prove themselves so ignorant and irresponsible.

Isn’t Donald Trump from New York?

@Greg: Nope. He’s from Florida. NYC didn’t want him and he was smart enough to get out.

@DrJohn:

A normal garden sprayer, like the ones used to spray down flowers, filled with a bleach solution could spray down an entire subway car in less than 1/2 hour. Guess Comrade De Blasio never thought about that. Maybe someone should tell him. There is no shortage of garden sprayers.

@Greg: We all love NY as displayed on 911 when people poured in to help. Make the Mayor and governor use the Subway everyday without security, see if it doesnt get cleaned up a bit. Make them eat out of the rat infested eateries, see if they do something about the rodent problem. Problem is the politicians are not New Yorkers or the woudnt so easily release criminals back to the streets. Just as the DC rodents no longer seem to be Americans. They all dictate from a bubble, super insulated from the voters. Whats up with the Governors nipple piercings?

@kitty: Maybe if DeBlasio’s wife gave back the millions she stole from the city they could afford to clean the subways.

the pair reminds me of cheech & chong always high, clueless, cognitively impaired, parasitic, and narcissistic behavior patterns. the biggie is the democraps want to run clueless, can not even read a prompter, misogamist cuomo for pres.

@Deplorable Me:

recall how much small penis mike stole from the city-millions.

A first-person account of a mild case: Chris Cuomo Describes Coronavirus It’s a good report. Cuomo is a journalist, and an unusually articulate guy.

@Greg: He talks about fake stuff on the internet, but chicken soup helped. He tried them, how would he know if the stuff he tried did not help keep his case mild? What did he expect instant zippity doo dah? Even zinc only shortens or cuts severity of a cold by assisting the immune system.
I havent seen a site that touts a cure, advising vitamins and minerals for the immune system, which cant harm you, as long as you dont go to true excess.

Always cross reference “miracle” stuff with the Mayo clinic site.

@Greg: You can’t trust a word out of Fedo’s mouth.

@Deplorable Me, #25:

What did he say that sounded like a lie? He’s just reporting his own experiences of COVID-19 illness. I think it was a well-balanced report that adds a bit of personal dimension to the routine news coverage. The situation is about people and their human experiences, not just numbers and politics.

@Greg: I didn’t say he lied; I said he is a liar without credibility and I wouldn’t waste one second listening to his whiny blathering. He BELONGS in a basement. He’s a liar that lies for a lying network.

@Deplorable Me, #27:

Whereas Donald Trump and his close associates are as unfailingly honest and truthful as the day is long?

I believe that like I believe Jared Kushner is well-qualified to play a central role in the national response to the coronavirus pandemic.

I can understand why they hate the media.

April 3,2020 – Trump administration edits national stockpile website a day after it contradicted Jared Kushner

…or more accurately, the day after Kushner contradicted a long-standing policy. The generally understood policy was altered to fit Bat Boy’s pronouncement.

@Greg: Well, for one thing, much of what you quickly deem a lie from Trump often is proven true. Why WOULDN’T Kurhner be qualified to play his part? At least he’s not someone that would intentionally botch the job and leak sensitive information just damage Trump though it hurts the nation, like many of those left behind by the Obama administration have done.

How’s that knee-jerk leftist denunciation of chloroquine working out for your credibility?

@Deplorable Me. #30:

How’s that knee-jerk leftist denunciation of chloroquine working out for your credibility?

It wasn’t a denunciation. It was a warning that it can have serious side effects, and that as yet there’s no actual evidence it’s effective against COVID-19 infection. Anecdotal reports regarding unproven medical remedies can get hopeful people into serious trouble.

Dr. Fauci reemphasized that warning earlier today. Everybody hopes someone will find a magic bullet.

April 3, 2020 – A small trial finds that hydroxychloroquine is not effective for treating coronavirus

@Greg:

I really wish you would go park your “doom and gloom” ass somewhere else. You are absolutely the most negative person to ever darken this blog.

Yeah, it was denounced by the left, solely because Trump mentioned. You lied saying Trump touted it as a “cure” and ridiculed anyone that suggested its use. When the idiot Democrats thought aquarium cleaner was the same thing, you blamed that on Trump. If you are going to support ignorant rhetoric, you are going to have to accept responsibility for it.

@retire05: That would actually be AJ, but they are joined at the hip.

@Deplorable Me, #33:

Yeah, it was denounced by the left, solely because Trump mentioned.

Nope. Not at all.

Twitter had to delete a post made by Rudy Giuliani asserting that Hydroxychloroquine has been shown to be 100% effective against coronavirus infection.

This is complete, total, and potentially dangerous bullshit. (Dangerous, as in acting on it could kill people. The drug can have serious adverse effects on a person’s heart rhythm, while as yet having no proven benefits in connection with coronavirus.)

The claim, which began with a back-woodsy upstate New York physician named Vladimir Zelenko, has pretty much gone viral on the right. Clear and unambiguous warnings about the highly questionable benefits and documented dangers from reputable medical sources are being blown off as politically motivated leftist disinformation.

Maybe the drug will be proven to have some demonstrable usefulness, but it hasn’t been so far.

@Greg: Nothing is 100% effective, so….
However, the media has buried this:
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/apr/2/hydroxychloroquine-rated-most-effective-therapy-do/

An international poll of more than 6,000 doctors released Thursday found that the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine was the most highly rated treatment for the novel coronavirus.

The survey conducted by Sermo, a global health care polling company, of 6,227 physicians in 30 countries found that 37% of those treating COVID-19 patients rated hydroxychloroquine as the “most effective therapy” from a list of 15 options.

I wonder how many people look up all the possible side effects of drugs they take regularly.
Doing that when I was a young woman led me to never use oral birth control pills.
Now doctors all tell me that was a wise decision.

But the Brits, when they colonized India for many years, used to take quinine without even measuring it!
They took it for YEARS.
Most of them suffered no side effects from it.
Sure, it is best to never need to take a medication, but sometimes that is not an option.
Fear-mongering over rare side effects seems silly when you compare quinine-drugs with, say, psoriasis drugs or Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) drugs.

@Nan G, #35:

But the Brits, when they colonized India for many years, used to take quinine without even measuring it! They took it for YEARS.

And continue to do so. This was the origin of “gin and tonic”.

@Greg:

Here’s a thought, Comrade Greggie; if you’re diagnosed with the Chi-Com virus, and you’re offered the hydroxychloroquine cocktail, turn it down.

There, now you can go back to your whining negative self.

@Greg: YES. You did. When Trump mentioned it the left ridiculed and lied about what he said about it. He NEVER said it was a cure; he said it was promising. That turned out to be an understatement.

And the first example came from France, and while not a broad testing, it was tested on numerous infected patients with very favorable results.

Chloroquine is not over the counter; it is prescription and I assume doctors know how to administer it. Tylenol is dangerous if abused; ANY drug is. It’s not the same thing as aquarium cleaning chemicals; only an idiot would make such an assumption… Democrats.

This is THE MOST promising treatment yet found and, as I showed, has a strong history of success, when administered with other drugs.

Trump said it was promising and Democrats attacked him, trying to make him look stupid for saying the stupid things they lied about him saying. Because, Democrats can’t stand for anyone to build any hope for the future; they want to continue to promote fear and panic. Democrats need bodies…. PILES of bodies.

Allow me to quote you:

Yeah, it was denounced by the left, solely because Trump mentioned.

In response to which I pointed out it that it was not denounced, but that Trump was criticized for raising unwarranted expectations; and that criticism wasn’t solely because Trump mentioned it, but because people like his (former?) factotum Rudy Giuliani were making totally irresponsible and dangerous public claims about it.

Dr. Fauci has made entirely reasonable statements about the drug in connection with COVID-19. Nobody is denouncing him for those comments—except for a few people on the far-right.

@Greg: YES, it GODDAMN SURE was denounced. In addition, the “false hope” the left accused him of creating was THEIR creation. YOU (the left) said he called it a CURE. He DIDN’T. He said it was “promising”. That’s hope, but not “false hope” because it had already been proven to work.

I haven’t seen Giuliani’s comments nor any references to any comment of his, but for yours. What he might have said matters not. What is significant is how the spoiled, bitter, sore loser, whiny, crybaby left acts like petulant children every time Trump does or says ANYTHING. So, when he mentioned the promising treatment of chloroquine, you all piled on, mis-quoting him and ridiculing the very mention. Now, you all look like the bigoted idiots you are when it is now in widespread use and providing widespread success in treatment.

From The suspect science behind Trump’s chloroquine claims, April 1, 2020:

Chloroquine is dangerous when not taken under a doctor’s rigorous supervision, and its shortage can cause life-threatening consequences for lupus patients and serious health effects for rheumatoid or inflammatory arthritis patients.

The bottom line is that evidence for chloroquine’s effectiveness in COVID-19 is unsubstantiated. It derives heavily from the work of a controversial French expert in infectious diseases, Didier Raoult, whose studies on the topic have been criticized as inconclusive, but who has been enthusiastically promoting chloroquine as the nearest thing to a miracle drug.

The craze has been pumped up, moreover, by figures who have a large public platform, including Trump and Dr. Mehmet Oz. Trump promoted Raoult’s claims about a drug cocktail containing chloroquine and the antibiotic azithromycin at a public briefing March 20 and tweeted about the drugs on March 21: “HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE & AZITHROMYCIN, taken together, have a real chance to be one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine.”

Dr. Oz, a prominent heart surgeon whose television show is a platform for dubious health advice, interviewed Raoult on March 23 and subsequently discussed his research on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show. On the latter, he said Raoult had “shown he could get rid of the virus in six days in 100% of the patients he treated.”

That is not remotely true, as Raoult’s own published paper reveals. According to his paper, several subjects dropped out because they got sicker (one died), but he didn’t include their cases in his results. A follow-up study covered largely subjects whose infections were mild enough to be treated at home.

Raoult’s initial paper — the one cited by Dr. Oz on Hannity’s show — involved 26 patients receiving hydroxychloroquine alone or in combination with azithromycin, and a control group of 16 receiving no treatment.

During the first six days of treatment, six patients fell out of the sample: One died, three were transferred to an intensive care unit, another left the hospital for unstated reasons, and the sixth couldn’t stomach the drug.

Those six results, however, were not included in the results, meaning that Raoult “cured” only 100% of those who didn’t get sicker, die, or leave the study.

“This is not how things are done,” Gorski observed. “These patients were obviously sicker…. Leaving them out of the final analysis was not justifiable.”

Raoult followed with another paper describing a study of 80 patients at a hospital associated with his institute, with no control group. But the 80 patients appeared to have very mild infections — only 15% had a fever, and four showed no symptoms at all.

Some experts say that using drugs such as chloroquine with potential anti-viral action on patients with mild symptoms or in early stages of the disease could be appropriate to keep the disease from progressing. But as Gorski says, patients with mild COVID-19 infections often recover without medical intervention, so it’s difficult to pinpoint the effect of Raoult’s treatment, if it has any effect at all.

Responsible scientists and government officials are doing what they can to hold back the tide of pseudoscience in the chloroquine affair.

Asked at the March 20 White House briefing if there was any evidence to suggest that chloroquine could be used against COVID-19, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s trusted authority in the current crisis, replied: “No. The answer is no.” The evidence being mustered thus far, he said, is “anecdotal.”

@Greg:

Chloroquine is dangerous when not taken under a doctor’s rigorous supervision,

Newsflash, idiot, all prescription pharmaceuticals are dangerous when not taken under a doctor’s supervision.

The bottom line is that evidence for chloroquine’s effectiveness in COVID-19 is unsubstantiated.

Really? According to whom? The “business columnist” who wrote that stupid article that an idiot like you latches onto to promote more doom and gloom?

My G-d, Comrade Greggie, I am beginning to think that you want hundreds of thousands of Americans to die from the Chi-Com virus just so you can blame Trump. You are an evil, evil person.

@Greg:

https://www.newsweek.com/fda-says-hydroxychloroquine-chloroquine-can-used-treat-coronavirus-1494925

Now, take your doom and gloom over to the CPUSA website. It’s where you belong.

@retire05, #42:

Really? According to whom?

Can you not read?

According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, “the nation’s trusted authority in the current crisis.” The one person whose entire purpose at this point is to know, understand, and honestly advise the nation about these things.

@retire05, #43:

The FDA has approved it without clinical trials, and has issued no opinion whatsoever regarding its safety or effectiveness when used in this context. In other words, some upper-level bureaucrat ordered that it be allowed, effectively shifting all responsibility for the outcome to individual doctors.

It would be interesting to know how that came about. Hopefully the results will be systematically reported to make a risk vs. benefit analysis possible.

@Greg:

According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, “the nation’s trusted authority in the current crisis.”
The one person whose entire purpose at this point is to know, understand, and honestly advise the nation about this things.

On January 21, 2020:

Dr. Fauci: “Obviously, you need to take it seriously and do the kind of things that the CDC and the Department of Homeland Security are doing. But this is not a major threat for the people of the United States. And this is not something that the citizens of the United States right now should be worried about.”

STFU, Commie.

@retire05, #45:

Yeah. And then it became so, with Dr. Fauci’s evaluation of the situation rapidly changing as it did so. Do you have trouble with the idea that things change?

@Greg:

Do you have trouble with the idea that things change?

No, because in any war, the situation on the ground changes rapidly.

But clearly, you and your butt buddy, AJ/Ward, do since you are trying to hold the President’s feet in the fire for what he initially said about this pandemic.

STFU, commie.

You’re clearly becoming angrier and crazier. Apparently social distancing isn’t help your mental health situation. Do you have no other source of entertainment besides trying to get a rise out of people? Perhaps you could find online counseling?

The only time you actually make me feel bad is when I finally respond by saying things like this. Then I feel annoyed with myself, and pity for you. I’m not sure pity is what you’re trying for.

@Greg:

You’re clearly becoming angrier and crazier.

You’ve been bat-shit crazy for a long time.

Apparently social distancing isn’t help your mental health situation. Do you have no other source of entertainment besides trying to get a rise out of people online?

It isn’t “social distancing”, idiot. It’s your constant harping doom and gloom. Lives are being saved with hydroxychloroquine and z-pac. And all you can do is spend your time trying to claim that isn’t true. All you can do is scream like Chicken Little that the sky is falling. I AM SICK OF YOUR NEGATIVITY.

Wonderful things are happening in the U.S., Comrade Greggie. Americans are helping Americans just like we always do in times of trial. I’m sure that chaps your anti-American ass.
All you can do is come back with more doom and gloom from your Chinese pimping news outlets and I will call you out on it every time.

@Greg: But it’s WORKING. It doesn’t need “trials”. It’s been used for over a century. It won’t hurt anyone, it will simply work or it won;t… and it works.You liberals don’t like it because it WORKS and deprives you of piles of bodies to point at and blame on Trump.
