In 1990 the Gun Free Zones Act was introduced

The Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) is an act of the U.S. Congress prohibiting any unauthorized individual from knowingly possessing a loaded or unsecured firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone as defined by 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(25). The law applies to public, private, and parochial elementary schools and high schools, and to non-private property within 1000 feet of them. It provides that the states and their political subdivisions may issue licenses that exempt the licensed individuals from the prohibition.

It was introduced by Joe Biden. It has had an effect on the number of mass school shootings- not a good one. Here is a breakdown of school shootings over time.

Prior to Gun Free Zone Act

  • During the first decade of the 20th century there were 15 (1903 (2 shootings), 04 (3), 05 (2), 07 (2), 08 (2), 09 (4).
  • During the 1910s there were 19 (1910 (3 shootings), 1911, 12 (2), 14, 15 (2), 16 (2), 17 (2), 18 (2), 19 (3).
  • During the 1920s there were 10 (1920 (7 shootings), 22 (2), 26).
  • During the 1930s there were 9 (1930, 31, 34, 35, 36 (2), 37 (2), 38).
  • During the 1940s there were 8 (1940 (2 shootings), 42, 46, 47, 48, 49 (2)).
  • During the 1950s there were 17 (1950, 51 (4), 52 (2), 53, 54 (2), 55, 56 (2), 57, 58 (2), 59).
  • During the 1960s there were 18 (1960 (3 shootings), 61 (2), 66 (4), 67, 68 (4), 69 (4)).
  • During the 1970s there were 30 (1970 (5 shootings), 71 (2), 73 (2), 74 (4), 75 (3), 76 (3), 77, 78 (7), 79 (3)).
  • During the 1980s there were 39 (1980 (4 shootings), 81 (3), 82 (3), 83, 84 (4), 85 (5), 86 (5), 87 (5), 88 (6), 89 (3)).

After the Gun Free Zone Act

  • During the 1990s there were 63 (1990 (2 shootings), 91 (6), 92 (7), 93 (10), 94 (10), 95 (4), 96 (7), 97 (6), 98 (7), 99 (6)).
  • During the 1st decade there were 60 (2000 (5 shootings), 01 (5), 02 (7), 03 (4), 05 (5), 06 (11), 07 (5), 08 (11), 09 (7))
  • During the 2010s (as of 14 February 2018) the total number is 146 shootings (2010 (11 shootings), 11 (7), 12 (11), 13 (26), 14 (36), 15 (21), 16 (15), 17 (9), 18 (10)).

There’s more

On October 9, the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) released a revised report showing that 92% of mass public shootings between January 2009 and July 2014 took place in gun-free zones.

The number of school shootings in the aftermath of the Gun Free Zone Act has skyrocketed. It doesn’t take a genius to understand why.

Shooters prefer gun free zones

Research done at the Heritage Foundation found that fifty-four of the 153 incidents (35 percent) involved a shooter targeting people at random who were not relatives or adversaries of the attempted murderer.

Of the 54 incidents that fit these criteria, the shooter chose locations where guns were banned 37 times (69 percent). Alternatively, the shooting occurred where guns were legally allowed only 17 times (31 percent). See graphic.

Of the 17 shootings that occurred where citizens could legally carry firearms, 5(29 percent) were ended when the gunman was stopped or slowed by a gun permit holder’s intervention.

Those who seek to harm other with firearms are going to feel far more confident knowing their intended targets cannot shoot back. The ability to defend one’s self with a firearm changes the dynamic immeasurably.

The sharp spike in school shootings since 1990 makes clear that Joe Biden is the father of the modern mass school shooting. He has made it safe for gunmen to victimize schoolchildren.

I’m old enough to remember teachers who had guns in gun racks in their trucks in the school’s parking lots as I grew up.
As I got older and went to school where some older students had vehicles, I recall seeing teachers and students comparing guns after school out of their trucks.
Our family’s truck had a gun rack, too. (But I wasn’t old enough to be the driver.)
In high school, when we did archery, most of us brought our own bows and arrows from home, too.
A hunting knife or a work knife in a sheaf would NOT be grounds for punishment. Instead male teachers would want to see it for comparison to their own. People made their own handles out of antler, bone, even ivory.
Those were the days.
Now, what was missing from our schools in those years? Minorities. We had two Asians, a few exchange students and that was it!

@Nanny G: No one can legislate against evil, this is simply a political talking point needed for November. The Russian thing is tattered, they have proven the to DACA applicants they dont care.
For liberals that cant see themselves shooting to kill anyone, or afraid they will miss and kill an innocent child or fellow teacher https://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2010-03/shock-bullet or other less lethal technology with training.
Something is so much better than nothing.

Gee, I wonder why the left has not pointed out to us this wonderful piece of legislation? This law is like every other thing the liberals do; they decide what sounds like a great idea, enact it, then walk away from it. When it fails, they heap more laws on top of it which not only never address the central issue but exacerbates the problem (gun bans). Like throwing money (other people’s money) at the poverty their policies have created, all they seek is the feel-good of having done something, even if it makes the problems worse.

We need Liberal Free Zones(LFZ)instead we need areas where liberals are not welcome and and crinimals fear to tread
