The Week in Radical Leftism, 2/2/2018 – Super Bowl Edition!

Loading

Welcome back everybody! Even though the Radical Left has given us no shortage of their usual non-sports related insanity for just this week we’re sticking to football in honor of my beloved Philadelphia Eagles playing in the big game on Sunday. I know what you’re thinking – “But Brother Bob, are you really going to find Leftists doing something stupid that’s football related for an entire week?” Ha ha, never misunderestimate our friends from the other side of the aisle! First, one from the previous week:

1/23 – NFL rejects vet group’s ad asking Super Bowl fans to stand for national anthem

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league asked the veterans group to consider using the slogan “Please Honor Our Veterans” or “Please Stand for Our Veterans.” But AMVETS felt those alternatives were too generic and sidestepped the issue.

“The Super Bowl game program is designed for fans to commemorate and celebrate the game, players, teams and the Super Bowl,” McCarthy said in a statement. “It’s never been a place for advertising that could be considered by some as a political statement.”

Just so I’m getting this right, asking people to stand and show respect during our National Anthem is now a political statement? No surprise, coming from the same people who had no problem a few years ago with Beyonce celebrating domestic terrorists who murdered government employees during her halftime performance.

1/29 – Minneapolis sign claims Eagles fans can have “free beer” thrown at them

For all of the bad rap that Eagles fans get, I find this kind of behavior disgusting and it should be condemned on every level. What kind of idiot wastes perfectly good beer by throwing it at someone?

1/29 – Minnesota, Plundered by Vikings

If one good thing is coming from those idiotic National Anthem protests, it’s that opposition to fleecing tax payers to pay for stadiums is gaining bipartisan support!

1/29 – Chris Long will again skip White House visit if Eagles win Super Bowl

I’ve never been a fan of this grandstanding – I didn’t like it the first time a player openly boycotted the White House visit over politics. That would be Mark Chmura, Tight End for the Green Bay Packers back in the 90s. He refused to visit over President Clinton’s morality, and even though I was fairly apolitical back then I loved how karma came back to bite Chewie.

A few years ago Sister Babe scored us invites to President Obama’s reception to greet the Prime Minister of France. No, it wasn’t up close & personal – it was a massive outdoor reception on a cold winter day, but it was a cool event. I put pictures on Facebook, and of course some of my Lefty pals had to chirp about “Hey, I thought you hated Obama! What are you doing at his party? LOL”

And I responded that the office of the President is bigger than the man in office, and that one can respect the Presidency even if one does not care for whoever is in the office at the time. I also suggested that it would be great if Lefties would be capable of the same when a Republican came back into the White House. They got my point and reluctantly agreed that they would.

(Interjection in Ron Howard’s Arrested Development Narrator voice: “Actually, they didn’t”)

“My son grows up, and I believe the legacy of our president is going to be what it is, I don’t want him to say, ‘Hey dad, why’d you go [to the White House] when you knew the right thing was to not go?’ ” Long said at the time.

I don’t know, maybe teach your kid that when he grows up he should be an adult?

OK, that was a lot longer than what I usually drop in these link summaries, but this isn’t one of our normal posts.

1/30 – ESPN Host Wants ‘Offensive’ Fighting Irish Mascot Changed

Sorry for blowing my own horn here, but I’m no Nate Silver and when I absolutely nail a prediction I’m not above some ego tripping!

1/30 – Donald Trump Scorches NFL Protests In First State Of The Union; Praises Apple and Obamacare Repeal

Without mentioning the NFL protests directly, our president landed a solid jab on this issue.

1/31 – NFL Anthem Protester’s Book: ‘Things That Make White People Uncomfortable’

Yes, that’s a real title. The same idiot who tried pulling a hoax accusing the Las Vegas Police of harassing him is now releasing a book with a spectacularly racist title. Stay classy, Radical Left!

1/31 – Super Bowl security to outlaw Philadelphia-style tailgating in Minneapolis

No tailgating? Seriously? It’s a damned shame that Eagles can’t be trusted to be “Minnesota Nice”- you know, the way the locals behave at the Mall of America, at the local Airport, or downtown Minneapolis.

2/1 – Hot Protest in an Ice-Cold Super Bowl City

I knew that could count on The Nation’s resident Sports Scold, David Zirin to find something to make being a sports fan a miserable experience!

Local unions and worker groups have been organizing around the game for months. Transit operators authorized a strike during Super Bowl week, leverage they used to force management into addressing concerns about safety and restroom access… Bakery workers, retail janitors and fast food workers will be in the streets outside Super Bowl events next week, lifting up their own campaigns for better wages and working conditions—and standing in solidarity with local movements for racial equity and immigrant rights.

Yes, have a mass transit strike during a busy week where your city is hosting a few hundred thousand guests – that will get you sympathy! And if you really want to spend hours outside harassing people in ten degree weather, then have fun with that!

2/2 – Duce Staley poised to break glass ceiling for black offensive coaches in NFL

Yes, the Victimhood Olympics have now reached the point where it’s insufficient for a black coach in the NFL to have a defensive background – Being a black coach in the NFL whose experience is on Offense is the new white! Personally, I’m hoping that our Running Backs’ Coach Duce Staley’s rushing game drops a massive Deuce on the Patriots!

2/2 – In Minnesota, Little Love for the Underdog Eagles (Or at Least for Their Fans)

This goes back to Vikings fans complaining about how they were treated at the game in Philadelphia during the NFC Championship. Most of the flak Philly fans got over this was undeserved, although some of it was very much deserved. Eagles Superfan, The Mighty ERock, did a great job of explaining why it’s not as black and white as it first seemed in this short video. And of course, the article brings up that garbage about “They booed Santa Claus!” again. Let’s set that record straight too.

2/2 – Herschel Walker: Players Received ‘Hush Money’ From NFL to Stand for Anthem

Accurate quote, if a somewhat misleading headline. This former Eagle comes down on the same side as the good guys on this issue, though.

2/2 – Nick Foles plans to become a pastor after football career

At least we get to close out the current events portion of this post with a positive story.

Now for a few sports related throwbacks:

Last summer I weighed in on how two former staples in my sports diet pushed me away, and worse than being angry, I not longer care about either. How, you ask? First Slowly, then Suddenly – Adios, ESPN and SI

Back in September I offered some insight on the man who singlehandedly poisoned the beloved brand that was the NFL. And I’m proud to say that I managed to see one angle that many better sports writers than me missed when I found The One Simple Reason Why Colin Kaepernick Isn’t Playing Football that Everybody Missed

And let’s end the post on a high note – The Top 100 Reasons why the Philadelphia Eagles are the Coolest Team in Football. Now I know what you’re thinking – only 100? Hey, I had to draw the line somewhere! I first wrote the post as part of my therapy after that crushing loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the 2009 NFC Championship when I was hanging out with the Mayor of Philly – yes, really!  I update it every year right before the start of the new season, and there will be a lot to update this summer.

Fly Eagles fly!

2/1 – Hot Protest in an Ice-Cold Super Bowl City

Yes indeedy, shut down services to hundreds of thousands of visitors over treating illegal immigrants better than citizens and inviting pervs into women’s restrooms. There should be a study of how the liberal mind works… if they could find one.

That Fog Bowl cracked me up!
Lots of memories for you and your boy, that’s great.

Since both teams have great defensive lines, I’m predicting a low scoring game.
How do others feel?

@Brother Bob: Yeah, WE’RE nuts because we don’t see their righteous genius.

Liberals liberals whine whine whine a sports team of whining liberals called The Snowflakes their a team of sissies who get creamed in every game they play
