Breaking down gender barriers- it’s all the rage. Transgender, cisgender, you name it. Whatever you perceive yourself to be, that’s what you are on any given day. Awards are being created and handed out for this hot topic. Recently MTV presented Emma Watson with its first “Gender-neutral award”:
MTV billed Sunday night’s Movie & TV Awards as the year’s biggest party, but this party also made a serious statement with its new policy of breaking down gender barriers in its new format, as men and women competed jointly in the acting categories.
The policy was put into practice by Asia Kate Dillion when she proudly noted she has been able to break down gender barriers as “the first openly non-binary actor to play an openly non-binary actor on a major TV show” (Showtime’s drama series “Billions”), then presented the Best Actor in a Movie award to Emma Watson of “Beauty and the Beast.” A non-binary person is someone who doesn’t identify with either gender.
Then Watson uttered something that I hope proves prophetic
“Acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, and that doesn’t need to be separated into two different categories,” Watson said in receiving her award.
The International Olympic Committee wants in on this action as well. It has decided that there will be no sex or gender testing any longer:
The International Olympic Committee (IOC), in charge of making the rules for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea, said that there will be no sex or gender testing required for the upcoming games.
“With regard to Hyperandrogenism in female athletes, there were no regulations in place at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 and there will be no regulations in place at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 as we are still awaiting the resolution of the Dutee Chand case,” the IOC wrote in a June email in response to an inquiry into how it would regulate the upcoming Olympics.
But, as is so typical with liberals, this has not been thought through. It all sounds great in theory but women are paying a heavy price for it. Biological women can expect to lose all future physical competitions and we’re well on the way to that day.
Transgender woman wins international weightlifting title amid controversy over fairness
Laurel Hubbard made history this weekend by becoming the first transgender female to win an international weightlifting title for New Zealand. But her victory in the over-90-kilogram division, in which she lifted a combined total of 268 kilograms (roughly 590 pounds) to best silver medalist Iuniarra Sipaia of Samoa by 19 kilograms (roughly 42 pounds), was not without controversy.
Despite a year’s worth of blood tests showing Hubbard had no more testosterone running through her veins than any of the other female weightlifters competing in the Australian International this weekend, some of those Hubbard beat questioned the fairness of the competition.
“If I was in that category I wouldn’t feel like I was in an equal situation,” two-time Olympian Deborah Acason, who competes at the 75-kilogram level, told New Zealand news site Stuff. “I just feel that if it’s not even, why are we doing the sport?”
Transgender boy wins girls’ wrestling championship in Texas
High school wrestler Mack Beggs walked out of the Texas sports complex with a smile on his face and a gold medal dangling from his neck. He had just won the University Interscholastic League (UIL) state girls’ championship, making him the league’s first transgender boy to win a state wrestling title.
Beggs, a junior at Trinity High School in Euless, Texas, was born female and currently is transitioning to male. Despite the fact that he identifies as a boy, the league allows him to wrestle only against girls.
A mustachioed Andraya Yearwood ran away with several track titles at a Connecticut high school:
New Britain — Last year, Kate Hall wasn’t positive she fully appreciated winning a Class M state championship as a sophomore.
That gave Hall, a Stonington High School junior, even higher expectations for Tuesday’s Class M state track and field championship at Willow Brook Park, where she was focused on a repeat in the 100 meters and was also one of the top seeds in the 200, in which she finished in the top 10 in New England last year.
Instead, the day belonged to Cromwell’s Andraya Yearwood, a freshman who won both the 100 and the 200.
Yearwood is a transgender athlete who competed for Cromwell as a girl for the first time on April 5, winning both sprints in a tri-meet against Portland and Old Saybrook. The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference “defers to the determination of the student and his or her local school regarding gender identification,” according to a Hartford Courant story about Yearwood earlier in the year.
“It feels really good. I’m really happy to win both titles,” Yearwood said after her performance in the Class M meet. “I kind of expected it. I’ve always gotten first, so I expected it to some extent. … I’m really proud of it.”
Andraya would have placed last against the boys. Regardless of the social issue, this is patently unfair to biological girls and women. There is a way out. This non-binary thing really should be taken to its natural conclusion to end the confusion- the complete elimination of gender in competitions of all kinds. No more men’s and women’s track events, basketball, soccer, tennis or golf- collegiate or professional. Instead, offer only non-binary competition- in high schools, colleges and in the Olympics. It would curtail the whining about income disparity. And let’s not end it there.
Just imagine how much more enjoyable the Academy Awards would be if the program could be cut in half. No more Best Actor or Best Actress- just a single winner for “Best acting performance in a lead role” and for “Best acting performance in a supporting role.” That’s something I would wholeheartedly support. After all, “Acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, and that doesn’t need to be separated into two different categories.”
It’s the fair thing to do.
