These countries are all strategically located.

The Seychelles are in the Indian Ocean south of the Gulf of Aden.
Vietnam and Singapore are near some of the world’s most important shipping lanes in the Malacca Strait and South China Sea.
Russia also has placed military might in the Arctic ocean off Alaska.
Seems Obama is content to eat Kobe beef and to golf and jet set around instead of paying attention to what is happening on our near-borders.

This is the really scary scenario: Putin cannot back down now; HE won’t lose face. So, what DO we do about Ukraine, treaty or no treaty? Ukraine is land locked; there is no ocean by which we put carriers right off the coast and threaten. It would take the UN months to take any action. One wonders what sort of appetite NATO would have for a major conflict and would Romania or Poland, in light of how the US is now so willing to abandon allies, allow forces to move through their territory?
Due to the projection of Obama’s weakness, punks like Putin feel emboldened to act, certainly before another election possibly puts someone with a pair back in the White House. So, now he’s in there; what do we do?
Of course, what we do would be a moot point if only Obama’s weakness had not offered the opportunity. Weakness is danger. Strength is peace and security. How many historic examples do liberals need before they learn the lesson? How many people have to die?

One other note here as to in my mind one of the main reasons this is happening. If memory serves, when I was in school many eons ago, it was taught that the Ukraine was in fact the breadbasket of the USSR. While Yes it has port facilities and some energy importance, it is food that is the main thrust. One of the things I felt helped the fall of the Soviet Union was the fact tat the people were hungry! Food was scarce and uber expensive. Russia needs the Ukraine!

He also has a significant number of his political critics who mysteriously die. His defense of Orthodox Christianity seems less due to actual devotion to Christian principles (please reference the disappearing political critics) than to the acknowledgment that the birthrate is significantly below replacement levels in Russia and they are in demographic decline, especially the ethnic Russians.
There is a difference between leftists and conservatives. His thuggish political behaviors and obvious aggression to maintain the Russian strategic warm water ports against the apparent will of the Ukrainian people, who prefer to be aligned with the EU. No invasion type troops are aboard. No aircraft carrier can go into the Black Sea, the only route in is the Bosphorus Straits and it is way too narrow and shallow for a carrier. It is just about right for destroyers, and they have to go very slowly. So tell us all what that 6th fleet flagship can do in the Black Sea, other than be sunk. Putin is doing just what Zippy wants, destroying the US will. The UN will take absolutely no action. Russia has a veto in the Security Council.
