Like an Oval Office Pontius Pilate Obama tried to wash his hands of the disaster of his own creation affectionately known as Obamacare.
Bowing to pressure, President Barack Obama on Thursday announced changes under his health care law to give insurance companies the option to keep offering consumers plans that would otherwise be canceled.
The administrative changes are good for just one year, though senior administration officials said they could be extended if problems with the law persist. Obama announced the changes at the White House.
“This fix won’t solve every problem for every person, but it’s going to help a lot of people,” the president said.
The political calculus is classic Obama- deflect the responsibility from himself and direct it to the insurance carriers. The irony is that Obama, who was unable to construct a functional website after three years, is now sticking insurance carriers with the burden of reviving the plans they had to cancel in order to meet Obamacare regulations after those same three years. And they need to do it in days, not years.
It’s an actuarial nightmare and it is not a “fix.” All Obama is doing is taking a steaming pile of dog excrement, putting it into a plastic bag, setting it on the stoop to be taken out and rewarmed next year.
Obama’s “fix” is a huge problem to insurance companies:
Health insurance industry consultant Robert Laszewski told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Thursday night that President Obama’s ObamaCare fix “makes everything so much worse” for insurance companies attempting to implement the new law.
Laszewski said on “The Kelly File” that the deadline for Americans to sign up for insurance coverage that will be effective Jan. 1 is Dec. 15 — a deadline the insurance industry has been working for months to prepare for.
However, Laszewski said Obama’s announcement that insurance companies can offer Americans their current plan for another year even if it doesn’t meet the law’s requirements means insurers only have 31 days to “reverse everything they have been doing.”
“Now they are saying to the insurance industry you have to turn on a dime and redo everything,” he said.
And his “fix” could make things worse:
Insurance companies already have devised plans for next year, received the necessary approval from states and begun to sell policies. They aren’t required to continue to offer their existing policies and state insurance commissioners aren’t required to approve those 2013 plans.
“Changing the rules after health plans have already met the requirements of the law could destabilize the market and result in higher premiums for consumers,” Karen Ignagni, the president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans, which represents the industry.
Obama’s stopgap measure echoes the failure of his lies that you would be able to keep your plan:
Washington state’s insurance commissioner, Mike Kreidler, announced Thursday he won’t allow insurers to extend their policies, saying Washington’s state-based exchange was “up and running and successfully enrolling thousands of consumers.”
“We are staying the course,” said Kreidler, a Democrat who’s one of the longest-serving state insurance commissioners in the country.
Someone didn’t get the memo.
Still, there is arguably a greater issue in play- where does Obama get the Constitutional authority to rewrite law at this whim from the Oval Office?
Obama has already rewritten establish law. He altered the ACA when he unilaterally delayed the business mandate and additionally selectively enforces immigration laws.

Rep. Fred Upton is offering a plan to that would allow Americans to keep their plans and other to buy the same.
The Republican congressman behind a proposal that would allow insurers to continue selling health plans that would otherwise be banned under ObamaCare told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Thursday his solution is “a better answer” than the president’s to fix the health law.
Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan said on “On the Record” that Obama’s solution “discriminates” against some Americans because it only allows people to keep their current plans. Upton’s bill would not only allow Americans to keep the health plan they like, it would also allow others to purchase those plans if they wished.
Obama has threatened to veto it.
I have a suggestion for Upton. He should make a few amendments to his bill, then put it in a manila folder and seal it and then bring it before the House, Senate and Obama, saying
“We have to pass it to find out what’s in it.”

There is a $95 penalty for not coming up to the new standards in one’s coverage.
Where is the waiver of that?
In fact, there are no waivers to insurers, either.
At any time, like right after the midterm elections, Obama could begin penalizing insurers for doing what is still against the law for them to do: offer substandard policies!
Karl Rove on FNC made a statement about an insurance policy tax which was an issue from our school system’s chief financial officer on the ~$500,000 we need to pay to an ObamaCare fund. The following he said last Tuesday after a work session with our county council – $96,000 for the county’s healthcare coverage too. This fee/tax was not discontinued either by Obama.

The reinsurance fee, $63 per covered life (employee and dependents) will effect all employer group health plans, fully or self insured. Most employer sponsored plans do not have a pre-existing condition exclusion. Coverage is a condition of employment.
These payments will go into a “fund” to be redistributed to insurance carriers who cover high risk (those with pre existing conditions) on the individual market.
The fee is supposed to be paid annually for three years. The rate for 2015 and 2016 has not been set.
This is just one of a number of factors that will have an impact on our healthcare cost. Needless to say, we are extremely concerned and are actively looking at all our options.

In case anyone who was wondering how Obama could wave his magic dictator’s wand and “allow” insurance companies to offer continuation of non-compliant (illegal) policies: he can’t. Not really. He can’t make the policies legal, but what he can do is tell the insurance companies he won’t prosecute them for offering illegal policies. So Obama is telling the insurance companies: “Don’t worry, it’s OK to issue illegal policies because I promise my administration won’t prosecute you.” In other words, Obama can’t make the policies legal, so he’s encouraging the insurance companies to break the law.
So encouraging the insurance companies to break the law is Obama’s big “fix”! So how’s that for great health insurance reform? Oh, yeah, and what a wonderful way to govern the country: encourage law-breaking. Given the example this President sets, why should anyone else feel compelled to follow the law about anything?
On the other hand, we all know that “Obama’s Big Fix” is impossible. State insurance commissioners are saying “NO”, and the insurance companies won’t issue illegal polices anyway due to massive liability issues. Oh, and what happens in case anyone does get to buy such an illegal policy. They’d still have to pay the “fine” because they won’t have Obamacare-compliant polices and the President didn’t give those people any “prosecutorial discretion”.
Besides, Obama himself said the reason for “Obama’s Big Fix” is ““What we want to do is to be able to say to these folks, you know what, the Affordable Care Act is not going to be the reason why insurers have to cancel your plan.”
That’s just plain despicable. Absolutely despicable. Coming up with a health care plan that requires encouraging companies to break the law, yet knowing the call to illegality is actually impossible anyway, and then on top of doing that, doing solely to shift blame from himself and the Democrats that passed this monstrosity.
Mortally ill people who’ve lost their insurance and their doctors will soon be dying because of Obamacare. Ted Cruz needs to gather a couple of dozen of these poor souls from around the nation, and hold a press conference with them surrounding him, and declare: “Mr. President, let’s tear down this Obamacare now! That’s a total inversion of the truth—the sort of inversion that those who are attempting to kill the Affordable Care Act in the cradle seem to have absolutely no problem with.
Any “mortally ill” people who have the sort of policies that don’t meet the Affordable Care Act’s minimum standards were in serious trouble trouble already. Minimum policy standards were created specifically to prevent such situations.
Under the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, people having serious illnesses are now assured that they can buy and keep health insurance. That certainly wasn’t the case before, when payments for medical services were routinely cut off when some arbitrary maximum was reach, or when policies were routinely cancelled upon late discovery of some “undisclosed” factor that arguably existed when the policy was applied for. Before the Affordable Care Act, if you had serious health problems you most likely couldn’t even buy insurance.
If you happened to be a seriously ill person with a substandard policy that was about to dump you because you were getting too expensive, having it cancelled with the guaranteed opportunity to buy something new that will actually pick up your expenses is probably the best news you’ve had lately. Maybe Ted Cruz could find a few of those people to talk to.

If I understand ACA, if a 62 year old man with cancer had a policy that didn’t cover maternity for him, it was a ‘substandard’ policy, regardless of the fact that it had full coverage for a 62 year old man suffering from cancer. The likelihood that a maternity coverage was not going to pay anything for him would not cause him anywhere near the problem that the loss of cancer coverage, and all other coverage will.
I realize I’m talking to a liberal that can’t add 2+2, but at the point when your policy gets canceled because you don’t have maternity coverage, you might wake up.

Suppose you are terminally ill from 3 different illnesses and your insurance is going to cost you $7000 a month with $5000 deductable and you only make $10 an hour, uh, or that was when you were working. they will make a standard fee for DOCTORS, which will demand cost for doctors to be accepted BY THE ACCOUNTANT

During his examination he flatly told me he would like to give me Prostate exam, but that government regulations prohibited him from doing so. he told me I would have to expressly ask for it. Long story short, he found a hard spot, caught just in time. Now then what if he wasn’t honest enough to tell me and just let me walk out without? Tell me now about death panels? So, if you are United Health Care, BCBS, Kaiser Permanente or any other insurance provided, and you have already pulled out of a state and cancelled the “sub-standard” plans, are you going to move back into that state and reoffer those plans at a great expense to your company? It just means that the guy can’t be charged more for pre-existing conditions than YOU can be charged for the same policy. Now we all know that the insurance companies are not in business to LOSE money. So if their expenses are going up exponentially, then guess whose ‘costs’ are going up exponentially? Do you really believe that referring to Obama as “your black messiah” three times in the course of one angry paragraph isn’t suggestive of a preoccupation with race? Unless I’m misreading, that was intended to be insulting, so black is hardly intended to be neutral or a compliment.

I didn’t refer to Obama as any color of anything, I’m not a racist and don’t see racism unless someone like you starts babbling about it then I recognize that you’re only doing it because race is some kind of criteria for you. Maybe one day you will judge people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin, and get away from judging people by their race.
