There was another political party which abused God and didn’t want Jews on their platform either [Reader Post]

It happened about 80 years ago. In Germany.

Sensing the political firestorm coming, democrats scrambled to insert God and Jerusalem back into their platform, having intially rejecting them.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Needled by Mitt Romney and other Republicans, Democrats hurriedly rewrote their convention platform Wednesday to add a mention of God and declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel after President Barack Obama intervened to order the changes.

The embarrassing reversal was compounded by chaos and uncertainty on the convention floor, requiring three votes before a ruling that the amendments had been approved. Many in the audience booed the decision.

The episode exposed tensions on Israel within the party, put Democrats on the defensive and created a public relations spectacle as Obama arrived in the convention city to claim his party’s nomination for a second term.

The language in the party platform — a political document — does not affect actual U.S. policy toward Israel. The administration has long said that determining Jerusalem’s status is an issue that should be decided in peace talks by Israelis and Palestinians.

Obama intervened directly to get the language changed both on Jerusalem and to reinstate God in the platform, according to campaign officials who insisted on anonymity to describe behind-the-scenes party negotiations. They said Obama’s reaction to the omission of God from the platform was to wonder why it was removed in the first place.

Lederman and Pace may have Obama wondering why the language was removed in the first place, but Obama apparently did know about it and raised no objection.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two platform planks sparked division at the Democratic National Convention here Wednesday.

Things got so bad that President Barack Obama was forced to personally intervene, ordering language mentioning God and naming Jerusalem as the rightful capital of Israel be added.

Obama had seen the language prior to the convention, a campaign source said, but did not seek to change it until after Republicans jumped on the omissions of God and Jerusalem late Wednesday. And even then, it had to be forced through a convention hall full of delegates who nearly shouted down the change.

This wasn’t done out of any belief system. democrats at the convention booed the change and they have made it clear that they want nothing to do with God or Israel.

It was Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney on Wednesday slammed the Democratic Party’s initial decision to remove from its platform a passage affirming Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, calling it just “one more example of Israel being thrown under the bus by the president.”

Romney — in an interview filmed before the Democrats restored both the word “God” and the passage about Jerusalem to the platform — told Fox News’s Carl Cameron that the omission of Jerusalem was a “very troubling development.”

“The president and his party have now changed their position. They now say that they’re not certain what the capital of Israel might be,” Romney said. “I find that one more example of Israel being thrown under the bus by the president. I think it’s a very sad day.”

America finally has the opportunity to see what the democrat party is all about and what they believe.

It ain’t pretty.

And speaking of alternate realities:

I leave you with democrats on an escalator

But really- who needs God when you have Obama?

The disgusting performance of DWS and Durbin speaks volumes!!

Oh my, that’s just racist! Those weren’t boos you heard at the convention when they put GOD back in the platform, that was piped in by Fox News! Evil racists, the Divine O will no be happy!

There’s a good reason Obama allowed God and Jerusalem (as capital of Israel) back in the DNC platform.
He read how Gallup crunched the numbers and it just wasn’t enough (yet) to alienate the many to please the few (who are going to vote for him anyway.)

Here’s what Gallup found…..
In the three-week period that ended on Sept. 2, according to Gallup, Obama led Romney 69 percent to 23 percent among those who have no religion.

But here’s the part that scares Obama:
In the three weeks leading up to Sept. 2, the polling firm interviewed 9,666 registered voters.
Only 1,282 of these registered voters said they had no religion!

http://www.gallup.com/poll/154577/Election-2012-Weekly-Demographic-Data.aspx

http://www.gallup.com/poll/154559/US-Presidential-Election-Center.aspx?ref=interactive

So, only about 12% say they are godless.
And Obama gets 7 out of 10 of that tiny minority’s vote whether he denies God or not.
His % of godless wouldn’t have improved if he stuck with the Godless platform.
BUT his % of Godly would probably have gone down.
So, his word, again, had an expiration date.
His plan to ”evolve” to a completely opposite viewpoint (a la gay marriage) will be put on hold.

Let’s see in November if American Jews agree with this assessement in the voting booth.

Dr. John– I expect Mata and Aye to show up any minute and criticize you for making the comparison between Obama and Hitler, but as one who as read a lot of history, it’s an apt comparison. Thank you for pointing it out.

So if you’re not Pro-Israel enough then you’re now an anti-Semite?

I have one little simple question. That is guaranteed to drive you all into a fury.

Which war has Israel EVER helped us in?

Has one Israeli ever died for America?

What does it matter, you say? Well, what do your sons lives matter to you? Are you sons lives to be squandered while our “closest” ally sits at home?

I don’t like friends who are always calling me to fight their battles but then never show up when I’m in a fight myself.

No Israeli has ever died fighting for America. Closest ally my ass.

Poor Jake.
He thinks only a military ally is a real ally.
Israel is our absolute closest ideological ally.
Israel is also a military ally:
Israel has assisted us in intelligence and defense capabilities.
Israel has let us use her ports.

And more:
Israel’s medical innovations have saved millions of lives and make life more pleasant.
How many neighbors of noisy wind turbines wish they had the Leviathan Energy Wind Tulip, a cost-effective, silent, vibration-free wind turbine designed as an aesthetic environmental sculpture, producing clean energy at high efficiency from any direction instead of the vibrating bird-killing ugly thing nearby?
Not only does Israel have an amazing amount of oil shale, but it developed clean extraction techniques to obtain it!

John Cooper Not to worry. Aye won’t show up. If he does he’ll submit “j”didn’t say it and where’s the proof.

@Richard Wheeler: I agree Richard. What’s important is to know that God and Jerusalem where not in the platform that 0-blama approved prior to the beginning of the DNC and it’s in there now. Also what took place on the floor of the convention is without doubt a complete disaster.

Common Sense Important that in the end they got it right.
Why do you think Romney did not thank the troops at any time in his speech?
He has no military experiance. He better get brought up to speed pretty quick..
Thanks for Doheny info.

@Richard Wheeler: It is very important that they got it right relevant to the platform but still somewhat revealing with respect to the division within the party on the subject. Romney needed to introduce himself to America on a more personal note during his acceptance speech and I think he accomplished this goal. With respect to the military it is a matter of access to information. I would venture to say without knowing that he is as aware as 0-blama was in 2008. No matter, he will be brought up to speed when elected. Have fun.

@Richard Wheeler: Richard: “He has no military experiance. He better get brought up to speed pretty quick..” who are you talking about? Obama? I doubt he’ll ever get up to speed. He’s had 3 1/2 years and still doesn’t have a clue. He’s not even very well up on the USA, having spent most of his life as a foreigner.

@John Cooper:

Dr. John– I expect Mata and Aye to show up any minute and criticize you for making the comparison between Obama and Hitler, but as one who as read a lot of history, it’s an apt comparison. Thank you for pointing it out.

My question to Dr. John would be whether or not drawing such a comparison is helpful to defeating President Obama this November; or if it helps his re-election.

Who are you trying to convince? Who do you hope to influence, if anyone?

If you’re speaking strictly to the FA conservative amen chorus, their votes are all but guaranteed not to go for Obama. But what about the ones who actually tilt elections? The independents and moderates in that squishy middle? Do you think seeing that picture of President Obama with a sieg heil helps our side gain votes? Readers aside from the hardcore right wing conservative converts?

Your previous post had a picture of President Obama in front of the Soviet Union flag.

It appeals to the FA conservative audience. But how does it help gain the votes of mainstream Americans? Or is that not the purpose?

I’m not trying to insult you or demean. Just wondering how this helps at the ballot box.

@Redteam, #6:

Obama has already been Commander in Chief for nearly 4 years, during wartime. I think it’s safe to assume that he’s up to speed already.

And what is this “having spent most of his life as a foreigner” crapola? He spent less than 4 years in Indonesia, as a child. He’s presently 51. Forty-seven is a much larger number than 4.

The Ryan budget suggests that republicans might be arithmetically challenged, but I had no idea that the problem was this bad.

RedTeam Welcome back. “most of his life as a foreigner” I believe BHO spent 4 of his 51 years in Indonesia. Are you referring to his infant years after his Kenyan birth? The years he spent training as a Communist mole in the Kremlin?Perhaps the years spent studying with the Neo Nazi Party in Berlin (Dr.J’S favorite). Did he win a Saul Alinsky Fellowship that took him overseas? Just wanna get your take. Thanks

@Richard Wheeler:

This post should be framed!

@Tom:
I have to admit, Rich’s post made me laugh.

Both of these are religious issues—god and the salvation of Zion—and play an inordinate part in our politics.

Richard Wheeler
you forgot PAKISTAN AT THE TIME IT WAS NOT ALLOWED BY THE USA.
AH, OBAMA DON’T CARE FOR THE LAWS IN USA, HE’LL DO IT,
HEY WHAT PASSPORT DID HE USE? WAS IT A USA PASSPORT?
I DOUBT IT

Dr. J It’s one thing to shake him,another to bludgeon him into submission.
Bees Thanks for the Pakistan reminder. Fighting with the Majahideen no doubt.
Aqua Thanks. We all need a good laugh these days.

@Richard Wheeler: Richard, good job. You summed them up fairly well, you left out his tour in Pock e Stan, but I can understand you missing that since he was on his Indonesian passport.

Redteam Actually I didn’t forget See #24.
A thought Is it possible Obie is actually Forrest Gump?

@Greg: Greg, “Obama has already been Commander in Chief for nearly 4 years, ” So you’re summing up his total military experience from 1961 til Jan 20, 2009 as what? And how does that compare with Mitt’s experience? About all Obama has done, militarily, is to destroy the armed forces and surrender to our enemies.

@Richard Wheeler: Not likely, Forrest Gump was an American.

@Richard Wheeler: Ah…. so you did forget until bees reminded you……

That last video is great! So simple, yet so poignant. And illustrative of the liberal/progressive’s view of society.

That is, everyone needs help to rise in life. If that rise stops, then yell and scream, or bitch and whine, about the fact that you stopped rising.

And yet, they miss, or rather, dismiss, that they simply could help themselves by walking up the escalator stairs to reach where they want to go.

I would say obama is the anti-Gump.
Gump stumbled into the right answers/resolutions. Obama? Not so much.

Obama must be dirtying his pants over the fact that even evangelicals lean Romney at an overwhelming 90%+ rate to only 3% evangelicals who say they will vote for Obama!
Many people tried to claim evangelicals would not support Romney simply because he is Mormon (a Latter Day Saint).
But it is turning out not to be a true claim.
No wonder Obama wanted God and Jerusalem back in his platform!

Nan The Republican Party can have all the evangelicals. They need to win Ohio.
J.G. Just walk up the elevator stairs. So simple. Is that where your parents are waiting to lend you money for college.
RedTeam As a confirmed Birther I’d ask you to explain exactly where YOU think Obama spent “most of his life as a foreigner?”
Always enjoy Bees input.

Jake
educate yourself with the truth, not the DEMOCRATS words,
they switch their support for ISRAEL WHEN THE TALK TO MUSLIMS, AND THEY LIE WHEN PROCLAIMING THEIR SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL, AS IT WAS DISCOVER THEM TELLING HESBOHLA
THAT OBAMA WON’T SUPPORT ISRAEL IF THEY ARE ATTACK, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT TO BELIEVE THAN THE WORDS FROM THEIR MOUTH,
AND ISRAEL HAS HELP TREMENDOUSLY THE USA WITH PROVIDING LIFE SAVING INTELLIGENCE,
AND RESEARCH ON ALL IMPORTANT HUMAN NEEDS.

@Wordsmith:

Who are you trying to convince? Who do you hope to influence, if anyone?

Do you really think it’s possible to influence lefties like Greg and Liberal1 – people who have no idea of human history and reject reason itself as a means to acquire knowledge? If so, I think you’re wasting your time. Trying to teach a pig to sing doesn’t work and it just annoys the pig.

For those who care about history and reason, read a little about the philosophy that led to National Socialism and you’ll discover many Ominous Parallels with the philosophy of the modern Democrat party.

@Richard Wheeler:

Just walk up the elevator stairs. So simple. Is that where your parents are waiting to lend you money for college.

Yes, Rich, just that simple. Do for yourself what you would have others do for you. Or is that too hard?

Dr. john,

You are dead on in your fine analysis above! I have more than once likened this President to Hitler and his minions as well as his handlers in the Socialist left. I do this as I firmly believe he is every bit as rotten to the core as those people, just not at the point of genocide. One must always remember Hitler and others started out with rhetoric that people wanted to believe then in turn, threw the very people that first supported them under the bus, just as this President and his party have done here! Having said that, I want to repeat something i have said in the past on this site among others. Please note below I also mention the Radical Muslims for this President surely seems to back them as well. While what I wrote below relates to the Jews, it in fact also relates to Western civilization as a whole. We are under attack for our belief in our most precious rights and this Presdient is at the head of the attack!

This President with his actions is every bit as despicable as the morons in Germany back in the 30’s. The heads of the Muslim Brotherhood as well as so many other Radical Muslim factions are uttering almost word for word the exact Anti-Jewish tirades one heard prior to and during the Holocaust! There are Muslim leaders who openly condone this and the President in his actions and words sides with them! That is fact kids! President Obama with his demands is openly signing Israel’s death warrant! Yet, we have so many morons here at home in the Jewish community who back this guy! My God! What is it you’re drinking? (Note here: Just the other day, Obama completely threw Israel under the bus in refusing any aid from the U.S. and the missile shields over there if Israel chooses to prevent their own annihilation and attack Iran’s bomb making factories. )

Can the above really be true (I believe we can ask this of the Jewish voters after reading your fine piece above as well)? Is the Jewish American population completely brain dead? Are they so completely screwed up in their heads that they believe for one moment that the atrocities we see aimed day after day at Israel will not be aimed at them once Israel is destroyed? Do they think for one moment a President that openly embraces a radical element bent on the elimination of the Jewish people will even try to stop the insurrection that is already making itself evident around the country? This same slow creeping cancer that is the Anti-Jewish sentiment is exactly the same as Nazi Germany. The similarities are there for all to see. Of course, I and others will be vilified for even having the audacity to compare our President to Hitler, yet he is allowing this to happen.

Between his perceived hate for the Jews (again, this is how I see it!) and his Chamberlain like stance of “I believe they’ll negotiate in good faith” belief in the radical Muslims who are now apparently running things (this clown really does believe in his heart radicals can be reasoned with. I’ve never figured this out, yet year after year morons think one can deal with hateful radicals. Can’t be done!) Israel, all Jews and if someone will finally get their heads out of their asses and realize, Western civilization as we know it are in deep danger!” (A caveat here: When I wrote the last paragraph or so, I was still moronic enough to think this clown was just in fact naïve and inept. I now state his hatred for Jews and Israel in general is in fact genuine with pure open hostility!)

@John Cooper:

:

Who are you trying to convince? Who do you hope to influence, if anyone?

Do you really think it’s possible to influence lefties like Greg and Liberal1 – people who have no idea of human history and reject reason itself as a means to acquire knowledge? If so, I think you’re wasting your time.

Reread my original comment.

I don’t consider Greg and Liberal1 part of the “independents and moderates in that squishy middle” category of voters.

I’m talking about your mainstream American who isn’t ideologically committed; who doesn’t think about politics much, but avoids it until come election time. The kind of people who sometimes vote Democrat; sometimes vote Republican; who aren’t particularly interested in either party, but in the person running.

You know…those voters who tilt elections.

They are the ones who need convincing. Not other right-wingers. And I just question whether or not this approach can get that job done; or serves to alienate potential undecided voters.

@DrJohn:

Sometimes you have to shake a person to wrest him from his stupor.

How often does that actually work on the voting demographic I’m referring to?

I can tell you that in my experience, people will shut down and dismiss an article before getting past the first sentence when it sounds “over the top”. YOU might not think labels like “socialist”, “communist”, “fascist” are an exaggerated and inaccurate description of this PotUS. But I think many Americans will knee-jerk reject and dismiss something like this post (not for lack of substance or credible argument put forth) if it looks like it was written by a right-wing ideologue. You’ve basically hamstrung yourself by sounding conspiratorial and a wing nut.

One of my few conservative FB friends posted something with Newt and one of her commenters responded with:

“I hear the word “socialist” being tossed around by the likes of Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and others. President Obama, they warn, is a socialist. The critics cry, “Obamacare is socialism!” They
falsely equate Western European-style socialism, and its government provision of social insurance and health care, with Marxist-Leninist totalitarianism. It offends me, and cheapens the experience of millions who lived, and continue to live, under brutal forms of socialism.” -Milos Forman

And I think that’s the perspective and reaction that many Americans in the middle (Greg and Liberal1 do not constitute the middle) have whenever either side compares our American president to a dictator, Nazi, communist, etc.

Those who are not ideologically committed are suspicious of the opinions of partisans who are. They can’t trust that what you are telling them is truth or spin.

Sure, you can try bludgeoning people. But what if people won’t even walk through the front door? Sometimes you might try finessing your way in, to gain their ear and attention.

Just my opinion.

JOETOTE
YOU KNOW THAT THE MILITARY IN THE PENTAGONE WILL SUPPORT ISRAEL WHETHER OBAMA IS THERE OR NOT,
AND CANADA HAS JUST RECALL HIS AMBASSADOR FROM IRAN,
AND CANADA ASSURE ISRAEL THEIR SUPPORT ANY TIME, AND THEY CAN BE TRUSTED,
THEY WON’T FOOL AROUND WITH NO HESITATION.
CANADA DON’T BELONG TO THE UN FANCY’S DECISIONS
CANADA IS MAKING HIS OWN DECISION WHEN IT COME TO PROTECT THEIR ALLIES
BYE

If Dr John’s assertion is true, I think he has every right to state it, if not a moral obligation, and political calculation should have no bearing on that. Of course comparing anyone to Hitler isn’t an accusation one should throw around lightly. There are still Jews alive who were in death camps, who had family members liquidated. There are countless American families who lost loved ones in Europe fighting the Nazis, and still feel that loss. Millions of innocent people are dead because of Hitler. You better have a better reason than a comment on Huffpo made you angry. You desecrate those victims memories if you use their tragedy just to perpetrate a cheap partisan stunt. You better really believe it, and you damn well better be prepared to prove it. It would be beyond shameful otherwise.

@ilovebeeswarzone:
Hi Bees!

Everyone here by now knows my feelings about these things. I just want to make one note here. Yes, the main people in the Pentagon I’m sure in their hearts would support Israel to the hilt. but one must remember, in theory they are not allowed to if their Commander in Chief forbids it. One must always remember the chain of command and the fact that the Military is honor bound to obey. I wouldn’t want to be in the shoes of our top brass when if the crap did hit the fan and they had to stand by idly. I’m sure it would drive them crazy.

As for Canada, how sad it has become that our northern neighbor is showing the spine the U.S. now doesn’t have under the lack of leadership shown by this President!

joetote
during any WAR WHICH THE USA DECIDED TO FIGHT,
THE CANADIANS CAME TO ENLIST TO HELP, AND IF THIS WOULD HAVE TO BE THERE WOULD BE AMERICAN CROSSING THE BORDER TO FIGHT WITH THE CANADIANS, BECAUSE THE POLITIC ELECTED PASS AND ARE FORGOTTEN AND FORGET,
BUT THE MILITARY NEVER FORGET WHO STOOD WITH THEM,
BEST TO YOU.

We should probably refrain from any comparisons with the Nazis. Otherwise I might feel compelled to comment on the extent to which Paul Ryan’s thinking has been influenced by a philosophy that worships The Superior Man and divides all of humanity into first and second-handers. One could draw some very unflattering parallels.

Word #38 Well said.You are absolutely spot on

Dr.J I would like to hear a direct response to Tom’s #41.

Greg The more I see of Ryan the less I like him. Not as big a drawback as Palin. Superior Man?? Is that why he lied about his best marathon time?

@Wordsmith:

When I first saw Word I thought he was a squish. Turns out he is nothing of the sort, he just has a different approach than I did when I first got here. I have mellowed a bit, but not completely. Thanks to folks like him, Mata, etc. I have learned the value of responding in a way meant to educate those that don’t follow politics the way we do.
Now I won’t pretend I’m perfect, but I like to think I have moved away from my old style a touch. I’d also like to think I’ve done more to convince the “squishy” folk than I would have before.

@Hard Right:

You old softie you… 😉

@Aye:

You take that back! 😛

Don’t get too soft or you’ll have to revamp your username to “Soft Right”. 😉

And that just doesn’t have quite the right ring to it…

@Wordsmith:

Oy. You got that right.

I’m so far to the right:
I refuse to make left turns.
I have two right feet.
I can only sleep on my right side.
I can’t go to the U.K. because they drive on the left.
Pinochet said I was too far to the right.
