Mr. President! Have you no shame sir? Have you no shame at all?

Loading

Today, we can all agree, our country is currently in an economic hole.

For a wide variety of reasons we are facing very difficult decisions ahead.

After senselessly wasting trillions of our hard earned money and having nothing to show for it beyond an increased debt load, Mr. Obama recently claimed that he was going to focus on debt and deficit reduction.

If that is true, then why, oh why Mr. President are you leaving on a trip which will cost us $200 million per day?

Mumbai: The US would be spending a whopping $200 million (Rs. 900 crore approx) per day on President Barack Obama’s visit to the city.

“The huge amount of around $200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the Presidential visit,” a top official of the Maharashtra Government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit said.

About 3,000 people including Secret Service agents, US government officials and journalists would accompany the President. Several officials from the White House and US security agencies are already here for the past one week with helicopters, a ship and high-end security instruments.

$200 million per day?

Dozens of aircraft? Hundreds of hotel rooms? Three thousand plus in the traveling entourage? Multiple Marine One helicopters which must be taken apart, flown over to India, and then reassembled?

Mr. President, please allow me to speak for a large portion of the American people for just a moment.

Have you no shame sir? Just stay home.

We work hard for the dollars that you, and your Congress, are frittering away so carelessly and cavalierly.

We the People provide you with some pretty fancy living arrangements there at 1600. You should just stay home.

Stay home and work on what is important.

Better yet, stay home, go play some golf, and save us $200 million per day in the process.

If there’s something really important that you need to discuss with the folks in India, pick up the phone and call them.

“Greg, what say you to this monumental waste of taxpayer dollars?”

India and China represent the 21st Century’s two largest emerging markets.

I suppose the money might be better spent at home, funding remedial classes focusing on critical thinking skills. Unfortunately, there’s no way such a proposal would get through the House now.

AYE CHIHUAHUA: WOULD you help GARY ROBERTS ON “”DRAR MR OBAMA””
need some ADVICE to get to FA

@Aye Chihuahua: #25 I’m not joking when I say that my fear is that it could go further than that. When Obama looses in 2012 it wouldn’t surprise me if he takes a vacation in an Islamic country or other dictatorship and doesn’t come back. Good luck getting Air Force One and the other stuff back. I have had this fear for some time.

Aye Chihuahua,
Obama just took a beating in the elections. Give him a little slack. He needs to go off some place and pout for a while. Pouting doesn’t come cheap for him. Just think how much his pouting will cost us after he looses in 2012.

A long time ago I read where there are more people killed by falling coconuts than sharks. It is still a fact.

http://www.unisci.com/stories/20022/0523024.htm

It would have been easier and cheaper to just rope off the trees and tell the Americans not to cross the ropes, but liberals don’t listen to the people here in the USA, so why should they listen to them in India?

SMORGASBORD: YOU know, A coconut, is not a bad thing If it falls on a nut
It will open it, and the substance will be expose, and bring more value to the NUT,
AND people would say, THAT’S a nut case. bye

CURT: 34, maybe, he has in mind to stop in AFGANISTAN, and win the war,
single handed. and take the job of KARZEI.
bye

@ilovebeeswarzone: #58 ilovebeeswarzone
“Some times I feel like a nut, some times I don’t.” Are you old enough to remember that product slogan? I like almost anything with nuts in it, except the US congress. We shook a lot of the nuts out of the tree, let’s keep doing it at each election.

If the president were a nut, what kind would he be?

SMORGASBORD: hi, I might be but I don’t know that slogan, funny how some days we do nutty things, my sister says NUTS are good for cholesterol, I remind her of the fabulous pecan pie,
I had a long time ago, in FLORIDA, in a restaurant where they had a woman baker
in their kitchen, she was a yankee as they call them in the south she could make a german chocolat 7 layers cake and jewish pastrys,
like you never taste before.
bye

@ilovebeeswarzone: #61 ilovebeeswarzone

Maybe the products aren’t sold where you are. See the video below:

To show you how strange I am, I like chocolate cake without frosting, apple pie, and both right out of the refrigerator.

It is off topic and will comment on topic only now.

SMORGASBORD, maybe they will have the chocolate bar in WINNIPEG,
thank’s for the video. bye

SMORGASBORD: your lucky to have a fridge making chocolat cake and apple pie,
IT must be a CANADIAN fridge, bye

Curt, you want to add shame to shame on Obama?

Bob Kerrey, a former U.S. senator from Nebraska, is suggesting, Hey, let’s hire someone to run the government for Obama!

The country’s chief executive officer needs a chief operating officer to run the day-to-day government, to cut through budget battles, political fiefdoms, parochialism and inertia to assist the president in keeping this country moving. Let the president’s chief of staff manage the White House – an enormous responsibility in itself. We need a chief operating officer to manage everything else…

President Obama has the authority to create the position of COO within the executive branch, but he should consult with Republican and Democratic congressional leaders and ask their support for legislation to create a statutory position that would remain after he left office, much like that of the chairman of the Federal Reserve or the secretary of the Treasury.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/04/AR2010110406882.html

What a back-handed insult to Obama from Kerrey.
And an admission that Obama can read off a teleprompter between vacations but that’s about all.

White House, MSM Unable to Refute $200 Million-a-Day Mumbai Trip

An obviously preposterous figure appearing in an article in a Mumbai newspaper, written by some anonymous Indian reporter, quoting an anonymous official in the Indian government…and Dana Loesch thinks the burden of disproof is on the White House?

It’s frightening that she’s homeschooling her children.

@Greg:

Oh my gosh Greg, this isn’t like a “Bush lied, people died” viral internet issue that lived on for years. Getting a bit touchy?

Bottom line, it’s extravagant during a suffering economy. Eventually the dollar amount will come out, it may not hit the figure that’s being tossed about, but it will still be outrageous.

Greg Bottom line this anonymous source quoted by this anonymous author doesn’t know the difference between 200 million vs 20 million vs 2 million U.S. dollars. What’s a couple of zeros among friends.Don’t ask what “several hundred thousand British pounds”equals.Right wing buys this like it’s the gospel’s truth.C’mon

@ Smorgasbord…… Peter Paul “Mounds” and “Almond Joy” Be CAAAAAUSE sometimes you feel like a nut!! Sometimes you don’t!! LOL!!!

Greg… well, true or false, the fact that so many people ARE willing to believe it about Obama, should tell you exactly how the people FEEL about him!! The guy should realize the lunacy of this. He’s a Pompous ASS!!!! It does NOT take an entourage of 3000 people to have a sit down, to talk about some jobs!! Haven’t you figured out King Obama yet?? EVERYTHING, about him has to be on a grand scale, bigger and better than anyone else….. started with the “Greek Columns” and hasn’t stopped yet!!! The guy is out of touch, and out of control!! All his inner circle have LEFT him, because they know he’s cracked, and going down! The RATS don’t want to get sucked down with him….. so they run.
Yeah Rich, and The Stupid UNIONS drool all over this guy… as he’s setting up deals for more jobs, to LEAVE the US….. so WHO is buying WHAT??? Dumb asses.. funding their own EXTINCTION! 🙄

A nice photo of Michele, at least. The photographer caught her channeling Reliable Information about Obama’s travel expenses direct from an anonymous source in India, via psychic link.

Greg,

I have to agree. It looks like she’s having a truly Katie Couric moment. Ewww!

Jeff

Well, he’s gone and here’s what the Indian’s have to say about his visit:

Yobama!

God’s truth, the city was glad to see him go.

‘Coz not since 26/11, has South Mumbai been witness to such drama over security, such isolation of Colaba and Nariman Point, even Fountain, Metro, Mahapalika Marg and CST, all of which President Barack Obama fleetingly visited in his whistlestop trip to Mumbai. The governments central and state may say what they want, but Obama’s visit has left a bitter aftertaste in the mouth of the Mumbaikar who is accustomed to sweetness around this time of the year because of the sacrifices the city had to make over Diwali to accommodate this guest. True, he is the President of the US, arguably the most powerful man on earth, but so what – how does that matter to us, people felt, and why should our festival be ruined?

Expressing bitterness comes quicker than joy and questioning authority is easier than complimenting it, so this is what BT gathered from the common man about the Obama visit.

BTW, the Indians are still sticking to the $200 million a day story, now who would pass all that info off to their press? Almost like someone was trying to create a …….distraction, take minds off the election, perhaps. 🙄

And while Obama’s visit might cost the US taxpayer $200 million a day, it is the poor common man in Mumbai who felt the pinch most…

Large paragraph of the man on the street interviews follows, heh:

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life-style/people/Yobama/articleshow/6883686.cms#ixzz14cSOVznN

@ Greg, got news for you Skippy, it is Tax Payer Dollars and not exempt from Public Disclosure.
So much for Accountability and Transparency. Your Defense of this extravagance is quite simply Indefensible. Neither Obama or you have an ounce of shame or integrity on this one.

@ ilovebeeswarzone, Ms Bees, I have been known to walk a mile for pecan pie or pralines in a Hurricane in a driving rain on a dark night. 😉

OLD TROOPER 2: yes , that is hard to beat, a good pecan pie ,not every one can succeed it,
I wish I could. I must try sometimes, bye

Am I the only one who noticed that Greg STILL won’t answer the question?

@Greg #53: You said:

So Greg, what say you to this monumental waste of taxpayer dollars? You going to answer this, or do we only get another (half)witty remark??

@rich wheeler #69: You said:

Are we to take it that you don’t look at this spending spree by Obama as a waste of taxpayer money either?

Nope.. he’s a BIG fan of the “Big O”!!! What “O” says is Gospel to Greg !! LOL!! Blow several 100 million buzzing around on his Asian “Joy Ride”?? NO PROBLEM sez Greggy!!

Antirocks AND Hankster TOTAL cost of this trip is SUBSTANTIALLY less than ridiculous quote of 200 million PER DAY.How can you guys buy into that anonymous sources B.S.?

Isolationism as a governmental policy has been out since the 1940’s. Conservs. plan on bringing it back? Good luck.

rich, are you saying that with the economy the way it is, you have no problem with Obama’s junket?

@ rich wheeler, We are far from isolationist at this point in history. No Embassies or Consulates have closed and there is no shortage of overseas involvements for the US Government.

As a matter of fact numerous US Corporations are stagnant in hiring/building in the US due to over regulation and poor domestic policy in the US but conducting business overseas is ongoing. The Government has continued to make it more profitable to manufacture products off shore. The ban on domestic drilling/energy production due to over regulation keeps driving up the cost of production as well. Russia and China are taking advantage of US over regulation and are doing nicely.

A POTUS that does not understand the US economy certainly cannot comprehend the Worlds economy much better. When Government over regulates an economy things stagnate. Private enterprise grows the economy when not overburdened with over regulation or worthless policies.

With no Official cost figures for Obama’s latest vacation, there is no accountability there. It would be far wiser to get our House in order than to be traveling in rock star fashion. This trip is Campaigning on a World scale when no governing domestically has occurred even by accident.

The time for Campaigning is long past. The time for governing is long overdue. That was a comment from one of Our Allies made yesterday over dinner.

OLD TROOPER 2: YES, the main focus should be in AMERICA FOR AMERICA FIRST.
SO many SKILLED PEOPLE are right here, some in companies who need to expand,
so to create jobs which are so needed by the people, even as those same people elect the one who are against creativity in the work place, which is so needed to be ahead of
their problems.
CHANGING is returning to the real values, not false hope aim at the people to believe
bye

Happy 235th Birthday USMC! Hope all jarheads have a great day.

A.C. Is this the same Indian source that said trip cost “hundreds of thousands of British pounds?”

Rich, easy way to end this, SHOW US THE COMPLETE BILL!!!! But NOOOOOOOOOO… we’re told we cannot know the costs, for “Security Reasons”???? How will showing expenses in any way cause security to be hampered??? BS!! Just like we cannot see his College papers, Senate papers, Birth papers etc etc….. When you go to these great lengths to NOT show something, you have something to hide. Sorry, Is200 m a day accurate, don’t know, and thanks to Obummer hiding the TRUTH from us once again, we probably never WILL know!! Well I take that back, once we BOOT him in 2012, the Conservative replacement “May” let it out…… be kind of like Bush and 2000 election, when the left crapped all over Bush, accused him of theft of the election etc…. and, when the LEFT did a COMPLETE recount later of, they found, INDEED, Bush had WON Florida, and BIGGER than the first announced numbers!! Did you see Olberman, Matthews etc, go on, and ADMIT THEY WERE WRONG??? NO!! Liberals NEVER admit when they blow it, they LIE, cover up, and then refuse the truth….

So, to quote a movie line… Obama.. “SHOW US THE MONEY”(you spent) on this trip!!!!
How hard is that???
But he won’t….. Rich, have you no curiousity as to WHY NOT??? Or are you a Brain Dead “O” head???
Come on, you want to prove me wrong, so why don’t you ask him to fess up the numbers??? Afraid??

@Greg: You STILL haven’t answered the question –

So Greg, what say you to this monumental waste of taxpayer dollars? You going to answer this, or do we only get another (half)witty remark??

@rich wheeler: Neither have you. I guess the both of you are too cowardly to go on record saying that in the middle of this recession that the US economy is in the midst of, you have no problems with Obama’s wasting of taxpayer dollars – no matter the cost.

The ad hominum abuse rolls off my back like ducks in the rain. (There’s your half-witty response.)

I actually have little to say about this monumental waste of taxpayer dollars because I’ve seen no actual evidence of its monumental level. (I sure would have liked to have seen a photograph of that kilometer-long, coconut-proof above-ground tunnel.) More likely it was very expensive to the degree that all presidential travel is very expensive, in a world crawling with organized terrorist networks and lunatic assassins of every description.

India and China are both important emerging markets. Occasional presidential good will tours are conceivably important to our future economic relationships with them. Displays of economic power are possibly calculated. The President of the United States should probably not show up in a bad suit and check his entourage into the Indian equivalent of a Motel 6.

You shuck and jive just like a textbook LIBERAL!! 😆 I see NOW, you wish to “limit” it only to “Monumental” waste….guess HUGE waste is ok??? 🙄 well WHO is going to determine “Monumental??? ❓
When you are not looking like you’ll win, you seek to change the rules!!
Why do you seek proof of the “tunnel” now, every news source on the PLANET reported on it!! And you are still in denial??? You’re like those “Neo-Nazi’s who say the HOLOCAUST never happened!!
To make their twisted beliefs more able to be accepted (in their minds anyway).. point being, the REALITY of it SUCKS, no matter HOW you “slice it”…
and in our Near Depression Country of TODAY, ANYONE WASTING what this trip cost right now, is an irresponsible SOB!! Period! 😯

Deny that away…… 👿

And Roll that off your back!

@ Anticsrocks… and he never will answer it. the answer would prove him wrong, and we’ve ALL seen how lefties cannot do that, if a Liberal were to admit fault.. they’d flash fire and vanish in a puff of smoke and thunder!!

H ankster< I can visualyze that, 2 months ago, I had the biggest thunder right above my head,
and afterward I found out all the phone wired under the roof where burn up,
the tecknician fix one but the 2 other phones are still burned,
It must have been a LIB.
bye

@ Hankster, #88:

…in our Near Depression Country of TODAY, ANYONE WASTING what this trip cost right now, is an irresponsible SOB!! Period!

Any thoughts about the $10 billion in Indian trade deals he announced from Mumbai on November 6? It’s estimated they’ll generate over 50,000 new U.S. jobs.

Maybe Obama’s tunnel was monumentally expensive because it incorporated state-of-the-art stealth technology, rendering it totally invisible to news cameras.

anticsrocks #86 I’ll go on the record to say “in the middle of this recession in which the U.S. economy is in the midst of” is a real toungue twister.
Hankster #88 Your strategic use of ’s is unparalleled.
You guys gotta be birthers.

I’m going out for a Birthday drink.Suggest you guys do the same.
Semper Fi

That’s tongue twister.Seriously gentlemen, there’s got to be many more important things to discuss than the cost of this trip.

@ rich.. er thank you!uh Thank you verry much!! LOL!
Do I want to talk about this crap? nope, BUT, that ATTITUDE is actually the PROBLEM!!!
That “what’s a few 100 million”?? A few million/billion her, a few there.. all “drops in a bucket” until you start making drops fall like rain…. and THAT kind sir, is what the Government has done. And they are KILLING the nation doing it!
Birther?? Not really, but the same applies, WHY do we not require a guy like Obama, to “prove up” like I do, to get a lousy License to drive?? Money, paper records, whatever, when you start to “just ignore/let slide things”… you are done. It’s NOT the Governments money, It’s MINE, it’s YOURS, it’s GREG’S etc…. and I think we have legal RIGHT to see it treated, like the General population would spend it, if it was there own!! TIGHT FISTED, and NOT like some drunken fool at a blackjack table on the Vegas strip!!!

But that’s just me…. your opinion may vary….

@Hankster: #89

“…they’d flash fire and vanish in a puff of smoke and thunder!!”

Actually, they would “vanish” just as quietly and quickly as they could. Either way, I don’t care how they “vanish“, as long as they “vanish“.

@Greg: #91

“Any thoughts about the $10 billion in Indian trade deals he announced from Mumbai on November 6? It’s estimated they’ll generate over 50,000 new U.S. jobs.”

How many jobs did the almost $1,000,000,000,000 stimulus generate for us so far? How many houses did the bank bailout save? I have only heard of one so far.

Can you name one promise, other than ObamaCare, that your king has kept. Remember when he “promised” that 95% of us won’t get a tax increase? That is out the window. Your king wants to eliminate hundreds of tax deductions and reduce Medicare and Social Security benefits.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2010/11/10/bloomberg1376-LBOK5T1A74E901-289J5LS1RAHS2PDLB32UTU6J9Q.DTL

I am guessing my question will go on your long “Do not answer” list. Will you at least tell me what number I am?

@ Smorgasbord, #96:

From the SFGate article that you’ve linked:

“This country’s out of money and we better start thinking,” said Erskine Bowles, co-chairman of the panel created by President Barack Obama. Without “tough choices,” Bowles said, “we’re on the most predictable path toward an economic crisis that I can imagine.”

What part of that statement can any reasonable person disagree with?

As I’ve stated around here more than once, any serious approach to dealing with the looming debt and deficit crisis is going to involve both spending cuts and tax increases. Everybody is going to have to compromise on something. There’s simply no other way out of this mess.

Without stimulus spending we might well have seen a precipitous economic collapse into prolonged depression. How many indicators suggested that was coming? Roll back the clock two years and consider the financial system crisis, the nose-diving stock market, and the skyrocketing monthly job loss rates. We can argue about emergency measures the Obama administration took until the cows come home, but at least the U.S. economy didn’t crash and burn.

Republicans can either spend the next two years playing politics-as-usual, or get down to the serious and unpleasant business of working on systemic fiscal problems with their political opponents. Since the new majority ran on the issue of fiscal responsibility, maybe they should consider doing that. I don’t really give a tinker’s dam who ultimately gets credit, so long as real solutions spreading the necessary sacrifices equitably come out of it.

Here’s the draft of the Debt Commission’s proposal, if anyone is interested.

Instead of going $4 trillion further into the hole over the next decade, we’d be going $4 trillion in the direction of fiscal responsibility.

But not without some pain for both political parties.

@rich wheeler: So I got a bit wordy and you can file that comment in the Department of Redundancy Department.

Now to the issue, as long as Obama spends it, you have no problem with the amount.

Bush took 8 years to add $3 trillion to the national debt. Obama topped that in his first 20 months in office.

Libs like you and Greg castigate Bush for his spending, yet you praise Obama for his…

Kinda says it all.

@Greg: #97

I find it hard to believe, but I agree with almost everything you said. The republicans are already saying that they won’t get rid of the earmarks. As long as we have a campaign system that requires politicians to use someone else’s money to get elected I don’t see a whole lot of changes. They have to do what the money tells them to do.

We need a system of electing officials where they are not allowed to spend any money. One suggestion was to have the Federal government pay for it, but how do you figure out who qualifies for it and who doesn’t? The money has to be taken out of the equation.

If a system could be set up that takes the money out of elections, then the only people the politicians would have to please are the voters.

Greg, look at the title page of your link at #98.
It is NOT the Debt Commission’s proposal.
It is the proposal of the two co-chairs of the Obama Debt Commission.
(In other words, it was trial balloons.)

Obama has already thrown their recommendations under the bus.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2010/11/obama_throws_his_fiscal_commis.html

Remember that Obama made an end-run around Congress in even setting up this commission.
According to the US Constitution, Congress has the purse strings, not Obama and the Executive Branch.

Congress will come up with their own proposal.
It is called the budget.
Obama will likely veto it.

@Greg: #98

You and the other liberals haven’t learned that lowering taxes increases revenue. I have lived long enough that I have gone through several recessions. Each time the democrats raised taxes, the economy went down. Each time the republicans lowered taxes, the economy went up.

Many experts now agree that if taxes had been cut during the great depression, it would have been over with sooner. Raising taxes in a recession is like a person who is having a hard time paying off their debts, so they get another credit card. You get out of debt by CUTTING expenses, not INCREASING them.

Look at the chart below and ask yourself where our economy would be right now if we would have kept up the same policies:

http://lgstarr.blogspot.com/2010/09/job-gains-losses-by-congressional.html

Look how quickly the jobs went away after the democrats took office.
