Union boss hog in 300K hooker scam
A married, obese former president of a Port Authority union admitted yesterday in court to embezzling nearly $300,000 in member dues and using the cash for tawdry hook-ups with prostitutes, casino trips and lavish meals, sources told The Post.
Daniel Hughes, 49, who resigned in disgrace from the local Field Supervisor Association, admitted to Judge Eric Vitaliano in Brooklyn federal court that he stole the cash from January 2005 to last December — bankrupting the account for his 250 members.
Captain Obvious weighs in:
“This PA employee took advantage of his position as a president of a union and abused it in a calculated and egregious manner,” said PA Inspector General Robert Van Etten.
They say diversity is good:
“They hooked up in cheap hotels,” the source added, including the Kew Motor Inn along the Grand Central Parkway, which bills itself on its Web site as “the most famous and exotic couples-friendly motel/hotel in Queens!!”
He also took his dates to the Pelham Garden Motel in The Bronx and the posh Bowery Hotel in the East Village.
All good things must come to an end:
The scam unraveled in December when Hughes began calling in sick and other officials at the union realized their bills were not being paid, a source said.
“What they found was that there was very little money in the union coffers or bank account,” said an investigator familiar with the case.
Not to worry. Barack Obama will use working Americans as a piggy bank to make this union whole again.
Hughes told the judge he was under psychiatric care for posttraumatic-stress disorder, bipolar disorder and depression.
“I’ve been institutionalized a few times,” he acknowledged.
Hughes also said he was being prescribed at least five medications by his doctors, as well as Ambien “to help me sleep.”
“Every time I see a drug advertised on TV, I take it,” he said.
And why not? He can certainly afford it.

Hey, it’s stressful being a union President. Just ask Obama. I’m sure this guys members won’t begrudge him a few perks. If not, he can always get a job doling out the $20 billion in the BP slush fund. That could pay for a lot of hookers.
Dr J, can prescriptions constitute an alibi or does that just work with celebrity justice? This isn’t meant to be humorous, I don’t use prescriptions; but perhaps they can provide a legal out if a guy managed to get into a legal situation with the IRS or something. As long as you keep the prescriptions current, who needs to know whether you actually take the medication, if they will provide an alibi.
We must remember Obama’s first loyalty seems to be to his unions, after all that is a fairly large demographic that he needs to even consider reelection in 2012. So of course we should expect to bail out his union friends and if that gives a green light to other union bosses to dip into the funds, then we should be prepared to dip into tax monies over and over. These are loyal union members who can be counted on to vote Democrat and the precedent has been set with GM and Chrysler; unions first, just because it isn’t in the Constitution doesn’t mean squat, Obama has decreed it to be unions first and that is the way it will be.

My dad was a member of the Boilermakers Blacksmith union for a number of years when their treasurer took off with their pensions. The thief was found and prosecuted, but the pensions were never made whole, the money was spent by the time they caught him, they had to start over. No bailout, dad just lost about 10 years of what was paid in, some members even more because they had worked there longer.
Years later the same thing happened with the Chrysler UAW and Sundstrand Aviation around here. I don’t know if they recouped any of the funds embezzled from those unions at that time.
But, we all know union pensions have a way of disappearing on a regular basis across the country and the taxpayers are now bailing them out.
Union hookers? Everybody needs a union job.
