In Desperation, Reid Tries Michelle [Reader Post]

In a speech for the Women’s Summit, held at Reno, a crowd of 1600 listened as Michelle briefly tried to breathe some life into Reid’s campaign.

Can Michelle lift Harry Reid’s from the pits of despair? Harry thinks so: although, his supporters are highly skeptical.

“We’re hurting,” said Tami Thompson, a supporter worried about Reid’s future. “And when we’re hurting, we want to find someone to blame.”

Kim Henrick, a Reno voter, called Reid a “good and decent” man who has used his leadership position to benefit Nevada. While she’ll vote for him, she’s not confident he’ll win.

“I am worried,” she said. “In fact, I feel he probably won’t win. And I think it’s a shame.”

Michelle opened with brief remarks that praised Reid:

One of my favorite people in the world.

“Over the years, he has been a tireless advocate on behalf of women,” she said. “This state and this country are lucky to have Harry Reid working on our behalf in Washington.”

Michelle stressed Reid’s and her husband’s tireless and questionably unethical work to pass the highly unpopular Nationalization of Health Care. Stressing the advantages for women and children in the bill, Michelle brought up some obscure features of the bill.

Public policy that ensures gender equality in health care and the work force not only benefits the women it’s meant to protect, but it also strengthens the social fabric of the country.

“That’s part of the reason so many people fought so hard to pass health reform,” she said, adding that women no longer will be denied coverage at a faster pace than men because of pre-existing conditions and won’t be forced to pay more for the same coverage.

At the conclusion, Michelle worked the crowd along the rope walk and the same music played that was used during her husband’s campaign for the presidency.

Reid, who has shown dismal numbers in the polls offered his own view of the race.

We have five months to go

In Las Vegas on Tuesday, speaking to a crowd of less than 300,  Michelle delivered the most prophetic and insightful line of her career.

Presidents can’t do anything if the don’t have a good team, and Senator Reid, is part of that team

Thank you Michelle for the honesty.
