Obama Awarded Nobel Peace Prize

No, this is not a joke. Sadly, this is not a piece from the Onion.

President Obama has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace.

There are some moments in history which are just stunning in their audacity. This is one of them:

OSLO (AP) – President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation.

The stunning choice made Obama the third sitting U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize and shocked Nobel observers because Obama took office less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline. Obama’s name had been mentioned in speculation before the award but many Nobel watchers believed it was too early to award the president.

Last Friday, he failed to win the 2016 Olympic prize because it was not deserved. This Friday, he succeeded in getting a prize he doesn’t deserve.

So, for less than two weeks of actual time on the job, he gets the Nobel. Less than two weeks of what exactly?

This stunning example of O’fellatio is proof of what a joke the Nobel Prizes have become.

I see the ghost of Neville Chamberlain standing in doorway of that airplane waving that worthless piece of paper saying, “Peace in our time, Peace in our time”.

he joins an illustrious crowd of cowards, terrorists and their sympathizers, as well as supporters of genocide, bureaucratic corruption, and murderous thugs.

sounds about right. proves once again, the NPP is utterly worthless.

frankly Obama has done absolutely nothing on the foreign policy stage that would warrant this award. I am utterly disgusted

I’m sure the Iranian protesters and the Hondurans are quite impressed. This has turned into a ABB, Anyone But Bush award, all you have to do to get it is trapse all over the world slamming the United States of America. Carter’s prize was given to him as an anti-Bush gesture and the clown accepted it knowing that, what a fool. Obama, Carter and Gore, clown posse of misfits prized by the Norwegians.

I’m going to quit being Norwegian.

These jokes just write themselves…

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more ridiculous… WHERE ARE THE ADULTS???

Seriously, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for an inauguration?

Where are the additional troops from our loving allies that Obama promised to get to Afghanistan? He is toxic waste and no one will touch him. He is talking about making peace with the Taliban and giving them Afghanistan back. Remember that he isn’t interested in victory, he is interested in watching a nuclear pakistan run by the Taliban overrun India because it is easier to vote present than to be the President.

“his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,”

I have officially seen/herd everything…

I guess going around the world saying sorry for America gets u a Nobel now. F A I L !

Seriously, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for an inauguration?

Didn’t you see the Greek columns? He wasn’t elected, he was anointed. The Nobel Committee was just granting him is proper due

This just proves beyond a shadow of a doubt the nobel peace prize committee is made up of Sesame Street characters.

Sesame Street deserves to be capitalized not nobel peace prize.

Im really taken back by this.

Actually, this makes it nearly impossible for the big O to increase the number of troops in Afghanistan…sounds like manipulation not award.

Oh how i’d love to see past NPP winners return their awards if bam accepts this award.

My first thought: no surpise, the NPP went down the tubes long ago with American Universities and the MSM. Arafat, Gore, Carter, the UN, and now Obama, somehow all deserve to be in the same “club.” Missy is correct in that the NPP, has, in recent years, become “anything but Bush.”

Remember Paul Krugman’s win for Economics? Krugman was the “anti Bush bellwether!”

The good news is that IF this world survives and sanity is ever regained, it will at least be well recorded as to how BLIND the world was when it came to politics. We will be more than lucky not to have had a nuclear war (aided by “The One”) by the time our pages of history are studied. At the very least, it will be more than clear that “Nobel Prize Winner Obama”, took the world’s largest super power into 3rd world status, consequently, he will be up there with the ‘greats’ in Marxism and its evils.

One more thought:

Up until now, at least IMO, the Nobel Prizes for science have been for the most part I think pretty fair. After all, how can one corrupt “science”? I even think the reason Al Gore got put into the ‘peace’ prize catagory for global warming (which never made sense), was to keep the “science” catagory ‘clean’ and real.

That said, I used to also believe that as corrupt as American Universities had become, especailly the Ivies, at least they couldn’t mess with science. Sadly, that changed (at least for Life Science), with the advent of embryonic stem cells and human cloning. As we continue to slide down the slippery slope of human experimentation, it won’t suprise me that the science awards will also eventually go along the same path as the peace prizes; culturally far left. I hope I never live to see a Nobel for “fetal farming”, but something tells me that I probably will.

Alfred Nobel would be abhored. What irony. He invented dynamite for the greater good, and was so upset it was misused, he left behind the Nobel Prize for all who would move the world forward, to a greater place. In an ironic twist, his own legacy has been “misused”; a disservice not only to Nobel, but all the early and much deserving winners.

To put Obama, Carter, the UN, and Arafat in the same “esteem” as Mother Teresa and MLK is a sure sign that the world has gone mad. Consequently, we have, without a doubt, “Arrived at the world of darkness.”

@Rob:

Beat me to it.

That leaves me with my alternate theory – that the Nobel Committee HOPEs that Obama can cure them of their BDS, but it doesn’t look like that’s worked either. As Missy already said, this is just ABB – Anybody But Bush.

it must have been Oba-Mao’s beer fest with Gates that did it … Where Obama let his closet Racism out of the bag.

Because it sure wasn’t because of anything the Oba-Mao has done.

@pdill:

After all, how can one corrupt “science”?

Not to worry, in the spirit of awarding this year’s Peace prize to Obama, rumor has it that Science is going to:

@pdill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6SwzqsTY-o&feature=related

lol… the reaction here is so predictable it’s not even worth engaging. have a good weekend gents…

Easy answer Aye…

Clearly, this prize, like everything else in the current administration, was inherited.

I’m thrilled.

Obama joins the great ranks of Jimmy Carter, Yasser Arafat and Al Gore, for nomination alone. Being nominated 2 weeks in…what had he done? Deliver pretty promises?

Before his election, he was promising to prosecute more aggressively, the war efforts in Afghanistan. Made some tough talk bluster on Pakistan to bolster himself away from the “Democrats are weak on national security” image.

And so many of his enraptured supporters saw him as the bringer of peace who would end war and suffering.

….Just from selectively hearing him talk. The rest coming from overactive imaginations.

It’s simple protocol. Just as Al Gore similarly received his award, this Nobel prize is a prerequisite for receipt of an upcoming academy award. For, his recent stellar performance at the UN in New York, with Moamar, Hugo and Mahmood: In the re-creation of the epic Star Wars Mos Eisley cantina scene, right?

@Aye,

Personally, I don’t see how the committee came to this conclusion. I think it is premature to give him the Nobel Peace Prize because although he has talked peace, he has a long way to go in making steps towards. So if you were to ask me did he deserve it, I would say no. He has set a new direction in American policy towards the world which I think will be helpful but there is still a long way to go.

But my joy from this comes not from his being awarded, but how it has got under the skin of the right wing wingnuts. Last week everyone was saying how the world had dissed Obama by not awarding Chicago the Olympics, when in fact he had little to do with it. But now that the world heap praises upon him, you guys still get your panties in a knot. And then there is the idea that he’s been in office long enough to have reversed the falling tides of the economy and the missteps in Afghanistan that have taken place over the last 8 years, but haven’t been in long to win a prize.

Personally, I could couldn’t care less about this story but since this is going to be the most popular post of the day, I have my McCafe ready and am going to enjoy reading the HATE (urban vernacular) that is about to spew on this page.

For the good of the country, isn’t it time for Obama to resign?

If there was any doubt about the moral bankruptcy of the Nobel Prize Committee this silly award erases it!

This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

Now Obama has sunk to the low-levels of Jimmy Carter. Only difference is that Carter had to work for his Nobel Prize. Obama has done NOTHING at all. Speeches alone should not qualify, since Obama is recognized as being a liar and a blow hard.

This Nobel Prize is a fraud, but understanding the liberal, very liberal, Nobel Prize Organization, it makes sense to them. Perhaps they are more easily influenced than the IOC. Nevertheless, it could be that George Soros got his deep pockets out for this push.

As for me, this Nobel Prize does not in any way make up for the HUGE slap in the face Obama got from the IOC. If you base gain on the real efforts made by Obama, you get nothing.

this is too funny. i guess those are about as worthless as the cracker jack prize, they hand those out to some pretty awful people. love how some of the past winners who did actually deserve it are pissed.

So when will Hussein become the honorary Masters Champion?

You need to look at the liberal blogs to get your daily dose of hate. They are for more attuned to the BDS and PDS rants than we ever will be here. In short, get a life.

Russia Today reacts to the award of the NPP.

They aren’t buying it either.

@Aleric,

ooooooohhhhh… such harsh words. lol… well, let me think about my life. Right now, I’m prepping for my radio show on Sunday, adjusting my fantasy football team because Willie Parker has been a huge letdown this season and I have tickets to tonight’s performance at the Chicago Symphony. Oh, and I’m going to spend all day Saturday watching college football. On top of all of that, I have my own website design company and have finished two projects this week. I’d say my life is just fine. Which is why I don’t visit 40 different blogs liberal or conservative… just the ones that I happen to like. And despite the darts that are thrown my way (and admittedly I throw my own) I happen to like this blog… happy friday to you, aleric!

Has work started on Mt. Rushmore yet?

@james: #23

You know we are all entitled to our own opinions, as you and the rest of us have posted in here that are absent of any hate, we’ve agreed Obama really isn’t entitled to an award such as this. And, then there are unentitled facts. You said:

Last week everyone was saying how the world had dissed Obama by not awarding Chicago the Olympics, when in fact he had little to do with it.

Now, the facts:

White House lobbies for Olympics in Chicago

The Obama White House is playing an unprecedented role in the bid to bring the 2016 Summer Olympics to Chicago, with top adviser Valerie Jarrett spearheading an effort that draws on the international symbolism of his presidency.

Any president would have an interest in helping an American city win an Olympic bid. But none has been as closely associated with an Olympic proposal as Obama, and the emerging effort by the White House is unusually pointed in its attempt to wrap the campaign around the president and his appealing image abroad — a strategy veteran Olympics watchers say is paying dividends and could result in an enormous hometown farewell party if Obama wins a second term.

According to some veteran observers and international participants in the Olympic site selection process, Obama is viewed internationally as the engine driving the Chicago bid.

“Everybody who follows the bids is talking about the Obama factor,” said Robert Livingstone, an expert in the closely watched but opaque Olympic bid business who runs the influential website GamesBids.com. “It’s the biggest issue of the whole campaign.”

Tapping Jarrett, a longtime Chicago friend and a top adviser who was cleared by administration ethics lawyers to lead the effort, put the Obama administration’s imprimatur on what had been a mostly unofficial push by Obama’s Chicago inner circle to bring the games to its hometown.

The write up was three whole pages:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/22394.html

Follow up, only one page, not much to say about the embarassing rejection, but Obama’s Olympic office remains.

Despite the embarrassing rejection of his effort to lure the 2016 Olympic Games to his hometown of Chicago, President Barack Obama will keep the first-ever White House Olympic Office, POLITICO has learned.

Heh,

The next Olympics the U.S. could host would likely be the 2020 Summer Games, since the application deadline for cities vying for the 2018 Winter Games is next week. And Olympic experts don’t expect the USOC to get behind bids for 2018 or 2020.

Denver and Reno previously had expressed interest in bidding for the 2018 Games, according to Rob Livingstone, an expert in the closely watched but opaque Olympic bid business. “But the USOC said ‘cool it, we don’t want any distractions while Chicago is bidding,’ ” Livingstone said.

If Bush had unexpectedly won the Nobel Peace Prize, Conservatives would be crowing loudly…instead you show contempt only because you are against everything Obama. Everything, mostly because of partisan political ideals and this shows so very little respect for the MAJORITY OF VOTERS WHO ELECTED THIS PRESIDENT. So, Conservatives now find themselves aligned with the Taliban who came out and condemned the award to the President.
The world is indeed a strange place:
Sarah Palin-best selling author
Barack Obama-Nobel Peace Prize winner
Conservatives in general-bitter detached sore losers who bear little resemblance to thoughtful Conservatives of days gone by, continually searching for the darkest cloud in every Silver lining while denying any ownership of the last 8 years that brought this economy to the state it is in today.

Bravo! Your reactions are very predictable, just like the Doctor who uses that rubber hammer on your knee…

Is Obama allowed to keep it? Past presidents have been given gifts and awards by other countries all the time. Every time they went to a country for the first time they were generally given something. Under law they weren’t allowed to keep the gift unless it met certain restrictions such it was food or worth just a few dollars. Those gifts they weren’t allowed to keep became public propery and put in a museam.

Disagree. Conservatives have long ridiculed the Nobel Prize Committee.

There is no point of hypocrisy here from the right. Just conjecture.

Oh, and I blame/credit Bush for this. I think Obama was awarded this as much for what he is not, as for what he’s perceived to be.

,

here’s the thing. i live in chicago and in fact, i live in the neighborhood where the olympics were to be held and i can tell you that obama had nothing to do with the olympics outside of symbolic posturing. the problem with chicago’s olympic bid were two-fold. first, they didn’t have the financing in order until late and they didn’t have the backing of the community. on the political front (olympic politics) the US IOC members were inept. they didn’t bother to attend the june meeting and that is where they lost it. there is also an issue that the IOC is not happy with the US IOC getting funds off the top when the dynamics of olympic has changed over the last decade.

alot there, much not much to do with obama.

as for the nobel peace prize… as i stated before, i don’t think he has done anything that warrants it, but since it is causing a hissy-fit with conservatives, i’ll take it for its entertainment value.

Love how james and moose poo have nothing to say on the code pink hypocrisy.
James, major failon the Olympics fail not being anything to do with obama.
The award should be re-named the Nobel P*ss Prize since it’s only used to pee on those they don’t like.

Silly me… here I thought “just words” didn’t matter, but deeds. Apparently not. For it was not deeds for which Obama was chosen, but for soaring rhetoric.

And Moose, FYI, had Bush been awarded the NPP, it would be because he *did* something, and didn’t just talk about doing something. James is actually correct… it is premature. Odd, BTW, James that you think that, and yet still wander in to diss the community for laughing at the absurdity of this decision. Whaddup with that?

Personally, I was just sorry the press conference was cut off before the Big Zero could answer the last question… “What are you going to do with the money?”

Other than that, the Obamas certainly live under a blessed star. And I hope that their kids seize their opportunities and excel in their adult lives.

Personally, I was just sorry the press conference was cut off before the Big Zero could answer the last question…

Let me guess…Kanye?

Problem. Can we ever take the Nobel Peace prize for anyone seriously, ever? This is a joke of major proportions. Obama is the biggest of frauds … ever. How will the Nobel Prize Committee feel once Obama decides to increase the troop numbers in the WAR WAR WAR (not Peace) in Afghanistan. And, as far as reducing or eliminating weapons of mass destruction — that’s a pipe dream playing only in La-La land (the generals would rather sack Obama than give up their Nukes.) Obama is such a fraud.

This award reminds me of the numerous awards my kids received in elementary school for doing really nothing. I have stacks of their awards which were photocopied and handed out to make children feel like they had achieved something (each was different), when they really hadn’t. How childish for Obama — a very large imbecilic child Obama is.

Borrowing the words of the writers of Saturday Night Live, I guess the Nobel Peace Prize now means JACK SQUAT!

I fart in Norway’s direction.

ok, what about this story here

SWEDISH tourism bodies have been swamped with inquiries from millions of men captivated by a mythical town rumoured to be home to 25,000 sex-mad lesbians.

The town of “Chako Paul City” is said to have been founded in 1820 in the northern Swedish woods by a wealthy man-hating widow.

Two blonde women are rumoured to stand guard at the town, which also features a medieval castle.

Many of the town’s female residents became lesbians “because they could not suppress their sexual needs”, Chinese news service Harbin News reports.

The myth has been embraced by the Chinese media, with millions of men crippling the country’s internet providers trying to find out how to get to the town.

However, men have been warned by media reports that they risk being “beaten half to death” by police if they dare pay a visit.

I agree with Obama, he doesn’t deserve to be in the company of other award recipients but, he’s going to accept it anyway. Can’t agree that he was at all humbled, he’s accepting it anyway.

Obama said he was “surprised and humbled” by the decision of the committee, and views it not as a personal award but an “affirmation of American leadership.” In a rare moment of modesty, he continued: “To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize, men and women who’ve inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.”

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/politics_nation/2009/10/obama_dont_think_i_deserve_nob.html

@mooseburger:

He’s already lost that majority of voters, independants are coming to terms with what we already saw in Obama before the election. He’s making a few democrats sick and tired of him too.

Thinking back to 2000 through 2008, that was bitter, then one could also look back on the Reagan and Bush I years, your party owns bitter. Attempting to compare what conservatives say about Obama is like comparing Youth for Christ with the gang bangers that went after W, Reagan and Bush I, it doesn’t compute. In addition, what you have just posted in my estimation is a bit of bitter projection.

@mooseburger:

If Bush had unexpectedly won the Nobel Peace Prize, Conservatives would be crowing loudly…

Yes, I’d be crowing loudly, but not how you think. Based on the presidential recipients in the last 10 yrs., I’d be sweatin’ bullets wondering what President Bush compromised in order to receive it!

By the way, I noticed your sneaking the sentiment in that first sentence, “unexpectedly won”. No bias there, eh?

The transformation is complete!!
