Hat tip: Grouchy Old Cripple:
Cartoonists draw blank on Obama
After poking fun at George W. Bush for eight years — often drawing him with big ears and a severe overbite, or as a gung-ho Joe College type, or simply as a clueless doofus — political cartoonists are finding Barack Obama a more elusive target.
Bush’s emotive facial expressions, easy-to-caricature physical features and, most of, all his deeply unpopular political decisions were fodder for liberal-leaning cartoonists. But the cool and detached Obama enters the White House at a time of considerable economic anxiety, bolstered by wishes of goodwill even from some political opponents.
“I had all my villains in place for eight years and they’ve been taken away,” lamented Pulitzer Prize winner Pat Oliphant, one of the most widely syndicated cartoonists. “I don’t know that I’ve ever had this experience before, of a president I maybe like. This is an antagonistic art. We’re supposed to concentrate on finding things wrong. There’s no point in drawing a cartoon that’s favorable.”
Amid a worsening recession, there is the question of what appetite exists for ridiculing a chief executive seen as earnestly trying to guide the country toward recovery.
Oh, “woe is me”….and President Bush wasn’t “earnest” in trying to guide this country toward recovery (post-9/11)? Cartoonists, like the late-night (liberal) comedians and producers are having a tough time “finding things wrong” with The One?! Give me a frakkin’ break!
Editorial cartoonists are feeling their way through the uncharted territory, slowly drawing a bead on satire that will singe but not burn.
“It always takes a while to get a handle on new administrations, getting to know the players and working on developing effective caricatures,” said Ann Telnaes, who draws the animated cartoons for Washington Post online and won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize.
President Obama was the media darling for- what? 2 years hitting the campaign trail? And you’re having trouble “getting to know” The Obamessiah effectively enough for caricaturization? Hmmm…these conservative cartoonists didn’t seem to have a problem of doing it one bit:

Can’t find anything funny about Barack Obama?….Heh.

A former fetus, the “wordsmith from nantucket” was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1968. Adopted at birth, wordsmith grew up a military brat. He achieved his B.A. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (graduating in the top 97% of his class), where he also competed rings for the UCLA mens gymnastics team. The events of 9/11 woke him from his political slumber and malaise. Currently a personal trainer and gymnastics coach.
The wordsmith has never been to Nantucket.
Like they don’t know how to draw commentary on his cabinet choices and their scandals (Richardson, and that Treasury Sec’s dirty laundry. They can’t comment on his latest “bail-out” bill that is overflowing with pork and sweetheart deals. Just like they didn’t know how to draw Obama with William Ayers, Reverend Wrong, and all the other sleazy people Barak was more than acquainted with. They couldn’t think of a cartoon showing Obama as a baby that was found on the Democratic Parties doorstep with no proof of whence he came.
It’s clearly not a matter of they cant. They are just too chickensh*t to draw anything that might draw the ire of his worshipful followers some of whom are the chief editorial staff. We have seen how the Oobabinittes have raved over any who dare say the slightest negative thing about their chosen on. The news will focus on what he does right. We need to hit what he does wrong as hard and unflinching as they have been hitting Bush with for over adecade
I think it is high time that we turn thr tables and scream bloody murder about all things in Obama;s past that they want sweep under the covers.
ditto…

You know what I would like to see? A forensic audit of all Government expenditures, and who spent them. I can dream can’t I. Deficit spending was invented by a Democrap, ain’t that obvious?
Re: @Real American Patriot: “you tried that… YOU LOST…”
If you are referring to the elections: Obama’s win was mainly due to the MSM’s biased love affair with his presentation, so much were they blinded by the spectacle, smoke & mirrors, and his oratory skills, that they failed to notice the lack of substance beyond. It was magic in the order of the Wizard of Oz. It’s only going into the second week, and some in the media have just began to peek behind the curtain. Eventually they will see the Obama campaign as the theatrical production it was. As for the Democratic “victory” The elections were much closer in various key races than the Dems would like to admit. They do not have a mandate, only a majority. The Balance of power is close and could very easily tilt in 2010.
As for the conservative’s speaking out against the Democrat machine, as Democrats did against the Republicans. The Democrats have hit the ground running typically shoving their far left agenda down our throats while thee media still has stars in their eyes. But some reporters have cleared their vision and have noticed and begun to report on what’s going on. The total shut out of Republicans on the so called 2nd “stimulus bill” and all the economy unrelated pet Democrat projects and pork within are coming out to the public. The Taxpayers didn’t like the 1st bailout, and they are not going to appreciate this boondoggle. Sure it will be more difficult because the Left are in control of the fourth branch, and even if they succeed in censoring the voices of the conservative talk radio crowd, those people will still be out there. And they will be pissed.
It’s not over, it’s only just starting.
CRAP defending his God. No surprise their.
Ditto, they aren’t afraid of the obamabots. They just will not make fun of their own.
After all, to them they are the annoited ones. You don’t make fun of the holy ones.
It’s some of that famous liberal open mindedness they claim to possess but never display.
I realize their obvious bias plays a role in all of this, but let’s not overlook another key fact. You’re forgetting that those (supposed) comedians and producers are complete idiots. I can honestly believe that someone like David Letterman is unaware of Obama’s stupid attempt to get into the Oval Office via a window because Letterman has proven time and time again that he has no idea what the hell is going on.
To SpideyTerry
Idiots they may be, but they and their fellow liberals have a hell of an advantage, in that they have a sympathetic ear of a majority of the media, while conservatives and even moderates who disagree with the left are often either demonized or belittled. Given the fawning support of the MSM, and the kid-glove treatment Obama and Biden received by the propagandized press, compared with the continual slamming of McCain and Palin, It is somewhat surprising that Obama didn’t get an even larger percentage of the vote.
The Media bias on television and in Hollywood is many times worse then the relatively small competition that “conservative” talk radio provides, yet as usual for Democrats, their concept of fair and balanced reporting is to make sure that everything is balanced in their favor. I.e. the proposed new (Democratic) “Fairness doctrine” that requires only talk radio to be fair and balanced, while giving the other media producers that favor their party a total pass. I see this as little more than a twisted form of political defacto censorship.
The blatant hypocrisy of Democrats never ceases to amaze me. The fact that they usually get away with it without having their feet held to the fire, is what makes my blood boil. Republicans and Democrats (and etc) should be held to the same standards. I am a supporter of fair play, and I believe that what is good for the goose is good for the gander. That is why I think in elections that ALL political opponents in a race should be allowed to participate in debates. I am frankly disgusted and dissatisfied with BOTH major parties. But the unbelievable bias of the MSM is a very big concerned to me for the future of our country, because those particular elites see their mission is to tell the people how they should think. That is the same kind of propagandist purpose that leads to oppression.

Has anyone read anything to suggest that attempted neutering of talk radio with a “fairness doctrine” is on the visible horizon agenda? I think the DEM strategy is to use talk radio in their favor. They want to portray talk radio as some sort of Right Wing La-La Land and bundle in the GOP congress in with what they are portraying as kooksville. I don’t see Obama signing a “fairness doctrine” anytime soon, if at all.

@ Larry
Supporters of a new Fairness Doctrine admit their goal is to target Conservative Talk Radio.

“I think the DEM strategy is to use talk radio in their favor.”
The Democrats tried it with Air America. It was a joke. What the supporters of a new F.D. want is to forcibly infiltrate successful conservative talk radio programs via regulation, and force them to spend the same amount of time pushing the Democrat’s positions.
Let’s look at it another way: The reason why some Democrats so strongly want to do this is because they feel that Conservatives have too much influence on talk radio. If Air America’s targeted audience didn’t grow, is it fair to force other stations, who have slowly built their own audience, to hand them over to A.A. hosts for half their time? However, the truth be admitted, Liberals have a far greater advantage and influence through television, newspapers, and Hollywood. Clearly a Fairness Doctrine would only “fair” if it applied equally across political media, which you can bet the Democrats would not want to happen.

Even if the Democrats don’t try to bring back the “Fairness Doctrine, they may try a sneaker way of undermining Conservative talk radio:
