hey i keep my house hotter than hell, but then again, i heat with wood. ~gasp~ what ever, he has always been a do as i say, not as i do type person. maybe they should make a law or something that as an example the pres can only heat his office to 68 degrees. that would be funnier than shit.

Greetings:

I’m kind of looking forward to the pictures of Kenyan dashiki day in the Oval Office.

I make sure that I heat my house to 82 degrees (winter or summer), drive a 1960’s gas-inefficient car with the catalytic converter stripped off. I eat meat 8 times a day (at least) and make sure that I throw most of my trash on the street. Someone has to make up for all the team-pinks in san fran and other eco-conscious places.

Just Kidding!!! I eat meat 12 times a day. All from elk meat that i killed with my bare hands and Vietnamese pitfalls that I crafted out of aspen branches and old toothbrushes.

He’s been hanging out with Al “Green” Gore too much. You know, turning down the heat is only for the people to do, not the leaders of the nation. They have to suffer so much now that it is insufferable to think that The One should be in the least bit cold. Why, that might affect his leadership skills. I think he also admires Jimmy Carter, the original turn down the thermostats and freeze to save the planet prez. Only then it was because we needed to save the planet from the new ice age.

He’s from Hawaii, When? Way back past college, NYC and Chicago. Axelrod is a complete idiot, na, make that an incomplete idiot, the brain is missing.

Someone compile a list of 10-12 worthless/political payoff projects in the Trillion dollar crap sandwich which totals $100 billion or more, ACORN would be a good start. A good list could be sent to enough editors that they would be forced to print/broadcast it. Then see how the public likes it and how fast the 65% approval (already falling) rating of the Chairman can fall.

@Scrapiron: If only that would work. But as you have seen in the comments section on the post regarding the hogzilla no stimulus spending spree no matter what Obie does his loyal minions will just turn and blame someone else (usually Bush) if you point out what crap Obie is up to.

Yes, Obie-wan is our only hope. Only he can save us. Only he can prevent forest fires. Only he can… (fill in the blank).

The second quote defines America. An obese person (“I can’t eat what I want”) driving a vehicle (SUV) they probably can’t afford. But I deserve it. Waaaaa!
Deserve’s got nothing to do with it……..

LET THE MELTING BEGIN…

PLEEEEEEZE!

More “Do as I say, not as I do” Obama examples.

Obama = Hypocrite

In oh so many ways…

AL GORE’S SCIENCE FANTASY

There’s a great 3 part video at the bottom which I highly recommend!

If Americans really want to right the country and bring about change, perhaps they should start by taking some personal responsibility for their appearance and by showing some concern for something other than themselves. Personal appearance is more than just superficial–it’s indicative of the respect that Americans should not only have for themselves but also, more importantly, of the much-needed personal discipline, self-sacrifice, and character required to fix America as a whole.

So Mike you have no idea what the temperature is set in the white house… Yet this BS string you wrote does nothing but complain about it… where is your proof it is to HIGH? the fact the took off their suit coats??

and you called me a NIT PICK.. OMG get a life!

So whaddaya think, Sky55110? Obama says we can’t just keep leaving our thermostats at 72 degrees and keep using so much of the world’s energy.

Hummm… shirt sleeves in DC, when the highs were just breaking 40 degrees. Think it’s at least 72 in there? I keep my house at 65 degrees. And trust me, shirt sleeves is not the uniform of the day unless you’re on a treadmill.

Your powers of observation and deduction really are deplorable, Sky55110. We may not know what temperature it actually was. But we know what temperature Obama feels is too high for the common US citizen to keep *his* house. And less than 72 in the dead of winter is not apt to be comfortable without a jacket when you’re just sitting around, simply chewing the fat. So I’d wager it’s at least 72, and enough to prove him yet again the hypocrite.

@Real American Patriot:

Sky,

You really should pay closer attention to the things that go on around you.

You really should.

You’d be less apt to be schooled so often if you did that.

Internet dating and discreet encounters may be your forte.

Intellectual discussions, not so much.

@Real American Patriot:

Aye, all it took was to google white house temperature. So, now what’s he have to say to Mike, who already had it in the original post? Oops, sorry?

“Although Mr Obama is famous for his “cool” demeanour, the temperature of the White House has been raised since he arrived – a result of the President’s Hawaii roots, which made him favour an office so warm, his adviser David Axelrod joked to the “New York Times”, that you could “grow orchids in there”. ?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/4388555/No-jacket-required-in-Barack-Obamas-White-House.html

@Missy: Let’s not belabor C.R.A.P.s small mind with facts. He’s so much more comfortable with his prejudices.

If he had bothered to read the post before rushing to comment he would have avoided his error.

You really can’t appreciate the Wagyu steak thing without the link.

@Mike’s America:

Isn’t this rich?

“…..Obama was ridiculing Washington, D.C. residents for their panicky response to several inches of snow on Tuesday:

“Can I make a comment unrelated to the economy?” — and launched into weather remarks (please check transcript):

“My children’s school was canceled today, because of what? Some ice,” he said, and all at the table started laughing.

“As my children pointed out, in Chicago school is never canceled,” he said, joking about how kids go out for recess on snow days. More laughter.

POTUS said he would have to instill “some flinty Chicago toughness” into Washingtonians.

“When it comes to the weather, folks in Washington don’t seem to be able to handle things,” POTUS said. ”

http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/2009/01/obama_flinty_chicago_oak_or_de.asp

Lying Hypocritical Scum of the Scum.
Everytime he lies to you and you are dumb enough to swallow it, he gets a liitle laugh later on at you.
But americans were dumb enough to vote this fraudster into office, no?

@Missy: “POTUS said he would have to instill “some flinty Chicago toughness” into Washingtonians.”

He’s already introduced Chicago’s pay for play corruption in rewards to campaign friends like ACORN in the stimulus bill.

@sigmundringeck: It’s amazing to watch the dems squirm as they try and overlook or justify the hypocrisy of Obama. Had Bush turned up the thermostat the environazis would be on the streets in protest. Not a peep when Obama thumbs the thermostat at them.

So wait, Obama cranked up the heat because he can’t handle the cold because, according to Axlerod, he is from Hawaii, yet he then turns around and makes fun of the folks in DC about how they can’t handle the cold. Also makes fun of school cancelled over ice while over one million people are without power due to ice. Chicago gets a heckuva lot colder than DC. So how high did he have the heat when he was in Chicago?

Makes fun of DC for not being able to handle the cold, yet can’t handle it himself. (insert sigh here) It is gonna be a long four years full of hypocrisy, lies, and backstabbing.

Well personally, I don’t keep my apartment at 72 degrees at all times, because I’m not there at all times. Like any responsible American, I am certainly concerned with oil consumption, as well as my own heating bill. But I’m also not willing to freeze. So, I turn on the heat when I’m working or relaxing in my apartment and turn it off when I leave or when I’m cooking, and down when I go to bed. So, while I’m comfortable keeping my place’s temperature between 70 – 73 degrees, it is no so at all times. I fail to see how this example is a failure in leadership, sorry.

I do, however, agree that the “Hawaii” excuse is kinda lame. As someone who frequently works in suit/tux jackets, I find that the desire to remove my jacket has more to do with the comfort of free movement than temperature. And while I completely support his comfort while working long hours, perhaps our President should keep his jacket on for Oval Office photo ops, since appearance is so important.

I keep my apartment at 60 when I’m gone, 65 when I’m home. I have a thermostat with a multiple timer on it. At the time I leave work the thermostat kicks up to 70 for a half hour then drops to 65. When I go to bed I turn it down manually to 60, 65 when I get up, then down to 60 again when I go to work and then the cycle repeats itself. I don’t like it too hot especially when I am sleeping. All this has nothing to do with being green, I just don’t like it too warm, makes me sleepy. I could have it cranked to 80 if I wanted (utility bills included in the rent), but the only reason to do that would be to make my cat happy. I’ve also replace all my incandescent light bulbs with those energy efficient little florescent bulbs, not to be green or save energy, but because they last a heck of a lot longer and provide better lighting with less bulbs.

What is a failure in leadership is when you tell your constituents they must turn their heat down to sacrifice for the Earth’s well being and for posterity among the rest of the world, yet don’t do that yourself. Al Gore does the same thing, asks us to sacrifice yet lives large himself.

Obama and Gore just don’t = hypocrisy, they epitomize it, glorify in it at the sacrifice of all of us.

I might have to consult a weather archivist to get the Fahrenheit stuff.We aliens us Celsius where freezing point is 0′.

How easy is that?

I like 17-18’c which (if my grade school input is reliable ) is about 68′

If you want your Climate message out -get into celsius.

I have a number of the energy efficient light bulbs as well. However, each one contains enough mercury to contaminate 1,000 gallons of water. You need to take them to a recycling center to dispose of them properly. I wonder how many people will just toss them in the garbage where they end up broken and seeping into the ground water. It may turn out that they are an ecological disaster. Also, if you drop one of the little suckers, be careful how you clean it up.

Careful there . you could get Mad Hatters Disease!

I blogged about the energy/environment issue quite some time ago. If you’re interested in reading it is here:

Cary: If it’s relevant to our post why not drop us an excerpt here instead of just the link?

Mike,

Because it’s an entire article that I wrote in 2005 with links to sources and such, which I’d like to share. I don’t see the point in copying and pasting the whole thing, taking up space here, when I can simply provide a link. If your interested, you can click. If not, I’m okay with that too. But I promise you I’m not spreading a virus or anything like that, if that is what your concern is.

@OBP:

ALL FLUORESCENT BULBS CONTAIN MERCURY, and the tubes have been around for over 60 years.

Cary: I don’t mind you posting a link and I am not concerned about a virus. But if you want people to click on your link you might at least offer them a summary or abstract of what they might expect.

Just trying to help you here!

@Mike’s America:

Yes. Many people don’t bother with them, unless they are hard core reference junkies. So posting a teaser sample is often a good idea (which I should probably do more often).

Thanks Mike.

The article is one I wrote when a friend in Houston, who worked for an Energy magazine, suggested I look up MTBE in response to my environmental/ global warming concerns. I looked it up and was rather surprised by what I found, and ended up learning more about the engery vs. environment issue than what I was originally researching. While my article doesn’t necessarily relate directly to the post in regards to Obama, it does in respect to to the products we use as they affect our environment, as discussed in the latest comments.

Hope that helps!

It’s also nice to use the full name and not just the acronym:

MTBE- Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether

Thanks again, Mike. I did figure you knew that, but I’m sure others don’t.

BTW, CARY, AGW REALLY IS A CROCK.

If you think Gore isn’t full of bull$#**, think again…
http://cei.org/pdf/5821.pdf

In fact, there is so much material on why it’s wrong, with many top climate scientists saying there is no crisis, that if someone doesn’t have the information it’s because he didn’t bother looking for it.

@yonaosn: Careful. You might upset Larry Weisenthal and he’ll be up all night writing another 2488 words of regurgiated talking points. Then, I’d have to spend another ten minutes debunking it all.

@yonaosn:

My findings are that there are plenty of expert opinions and scientific research to support either side. This isn’t about Al Gore! There’s no doubt in my mind that our earth is experiencing a climate change, as evident in simply witnessing basic weather patterns from when I was a kid till now. What I do question is how how much is the natural order of things and how much is our doing. I also figure that playing it safe is in my own best interest, in any case. For instance, the main area of my apartment has three ceiling lights. I just realized the other day that, if instead of using 75 watts in each, I put 100 watts in one, 40 in another, and 25 in another, I can both alter the atmosphere of the whole room to my needs and tastes, and save money by using less energy when I don’t need it- all while being “environmental”. So, right or wrong, erring on the side of conserving is win-win.

@Cary: That’s very commendable that you would practice conservation in your own way.

But you had a choice to do that.

Unfortuantely, the politics of global warming is about removing the choices available to you or punishing you for making what Al Gore and his acolytes consider the wrong choice.

Those lights in your apartment may end up costing you double or triple to burn at all if the Goreacle’s plan to punish coal as a fuel is succesful.

And $trillions that will be spent to combat CO2 release will be taken away from REAL human problems like hunger, poverty, disease, literacy, third world development.

John McCain once said that “even if we are wrong” about global warming, “we’ll get a cleaner world.” That’s total crap. Since it wrongfully assumes that CO2 is a pollutant and not the very stuff that plants need to grow our food.

We would die without CO2. And as I said on our other current global warming thread, there is no proof at all that manmade CO2 is causing any climate change at all.

Expect Larry to show up and spend another all nighter dropping links from sources whose very livelihood depends on convincing people of the opposite of what I have just said.

Whaddaya talking about, Mike’s A? If Cary’s using incandescent lights under the algore’has’no’rhythm plan, he’ll be considered a smuggler for illegal light bulbs!

Well Mike, it seems we don’t entirely disagree on this one very much at all.

I feel freer to breath in my apartment because of an abundance of houseplants. My favorite is a vine plant called a Purple Passion, which is easily clipped and rooted to make more plants to fill the room. I think God made a perfect symbiotic relationship between us and “things that grow’ – us using oxygen and releasing c02, them doing the opposite. If there is an imbalance of Co2 to 02 in the earth, I would be more inclined to attributing that to the destruction of our rainforests than our use of oil or coal. I haven’t done the research, it just makes sense to me.

I think sometimes laws are made to force people to do the right thing, because so many people are irresponsible and selfish. (people should move their cars so the streets can be cleaned, but only do so if it’s money out of their pockets…) Of course, as you point out, many of these laws are unproductive and counter to progress. Perhaps instead, there should be a campaign to point out how conserving is in our individual best interest, as I have discovered.

@MataHarley:

I’m sure you know plenty of us actors who have enough ego over our appearance not to hang fluorescents in our homes! Those yellows are very unflattering on the skin! Only soft whites and pink bulbs will do! Oh and candles are nice, too. =)

what… no pancake/blush makeup artist on call, Cary? LOL

I love incandescents. Not only “warm” light, but also “warm” temps. And age is a lot more forgiving with that “mood” lighting.

Unfortunately, you won’t have a choice soon Cary. Al Gore and friends got incandescant lights banned and I think it starts in 2010. After that you’ll be stuck with the greenish light of flourescents.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The greenies want to control every aspect of your life. If you someday decide you’d like to buy a home in the country it may be illegal. So I hope you enjoy city life with your houseplants. I’ll hang onto my outdoor garden as long as the law allows.

@MataHarley:

LMAO – No, as a stage guy , I know how to apply my own concealer! lol Those film guys can’t even powder themselves, they have somebody doing everything for them!

And yes, I do look much better in the dark with a nice votive!

@Mike’s America:

Luckily, what I use are very cheap at the Family Dollar, and I can stock up! Plus, my apartment is equipped for track lighting, so I may just invest in that.

I can understand using environmental florescents in public offices, and schools, but I really should have a choice in my own home.

I also wonder how such a law would affect the film/tv/ theater industries. Those lights are quite hot, but extremely necessary.

@Cary:

“…erring on the side of conserving is win-win.”

Depends on how much the error costs and what you get for your nickle…

Trillions of Dollars, Tenths of a Degree

http://motls.blogspot.com/2007/11/trillions-for-co2-regulation.html
I.e., trillions of dollars to reduce CO2, which is plant fertilizer, and get NO DISCERNABLE REDUCTION IN TEMPERATURE. That’s not foolish, it’s insane!

I use the CFI’s, in order to save on electricity and so I don’t have to buy a pack of incandescents every month. It’s very convenient and seems to be somewhat economical, but it isn’t going to do a thing to “save the planet.”

Don’t let them panic you, Cary. That’s what they want, because when we panic we get stupid and believe whatever bullspit they spew at us. Check this out, it’s very good.

“My findings are that there are plenty of expert opinions and scientific research to support either side”

It might help if you supplied some references so we could evaluate them, btw. For example, the series “The Deniers” is an excellent source of top climate scientists who say AGW is hogwash.
http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/posted/pages/climate-change-the-deniers.aspx

Also watch these series for a bit more sanity, which you won’t find on the AGW side of the isle…

REAL SCIENTISTS … REAL DATA … NO AGW … NO BULL
