Personally, I would have no problem with a First Lady who continued her own career. I could easily see Michelle Obama getting a comparable position in the DC area (or even keeping her current position and “commuting!”) and only doing some of the social roles of the “traditional” First Lady. This is, after all, the 21st century. But, pay for the “traditional roles” of the First Lady? No way. She is free to make as much, or as little of the role as she likes. Perhaps she’ll start a new trend. “Change” and all that, ya know.

It’s called serving your country, it’s a privilege. I guess she figured out she can’t have those pricey Jimmy Choo slippers and bling, (while she waxed re: Target toilet paper and telling women making 40K how she’s barely keeping her head above water with 300K, counting pennies for ballet, piano lessons and camp). She could always divorce and stay in Chicago… i’m sure Vera wouldn’t mind taking her place. By the way, she’s more dirty than her hubby.

For four years, (2004-2008) Michelle got two hundred thousand dollars more per year, than she would have gotten if her husband had not been elected to the US Senate (and who knows how much more from sitting on corporate boards per year, possibly an aggregate of two hundred fifty thousand over the same period). So from my perspective, she’s already gotten an additional million dollars due to that Chicago horsetrading that now Obama pretends to by hyperallergic too.
On top of that she’s getting free room and board for the next four to ten years and can rent out her home for gazillion dollars to Obamaniacs during that time period. The taxpayers should not have to subsidize her more than she has already been paid. If she wants to work at a job, let her continue her public non profit work, and not squeeze the taxpayers more. If no pay was good enough for Hillary and Eleanor and Laura, it’s certainly good enough for MO.

are you kidding? she deserves nothing. it should be an honor to serve as first lady, it is her duty as the presidents wife to do certain things, she dosen’t want to then kick her ass to the curb. she gets way to much money for helping people screw other people, she should be ashamed of most of her behavior. all she has to do is look snarky and angry and her job is done, do you think there is a genuine smile in that womans body? i don’t think so.

This question wouldn’t even be coming up but for the overweaning arrogance of these two and their media shills. I would pay Michelle to move out of the White House. What a disgrace for your country that woman. She has no class, no taste (just look at what she wears), she looks like a football player and she is as corrupted as her husband. She lost her licence to practice law due to an insurance fraud.
Some might think I am being racist, well think again. Here in Canada, our Governor General is a black woman, Michaelle Jean, and everybody is proud of her. She represents us very well in the world. She is brillant, beautiful, charismatic, dresses well and she has class. She is a plus to our country and she is polyglot. And BTW, I also admire Condoleezza Rice.

I don’t see an issue with her being compensated. I think there are many people who do not have adequate information about the perks of being in the White House. Contrary to popular belief, while presidential familes live there without paying rent, they have to pay for their food and certain other amenities. In other words, their stay there is not entirely free.
With that having been said, I think majority of you people who have made these nasty comments should realize that what you have to say carries no weight and you are undermining your own credibility. Michelle Obama is SUPPOSED to be in the White House because her husband was elected president. Whether you like it or not, she is there. Get over it. God placed them there for a reason and I thank Him every day for doing so. The Obamas are what this country needs right now. If other first ladies elected not to receive a salary, that’s on them. If there is a segment of the population that feels that she needs a salary, then perhaps it is worth looking into.
I would also like to add that Michelle Obama does indeed have taste. I would also add that you should all be careful about any potentially defamatory remarks that are posted. I have yet to hear that she lost her law license for insurance fraud.
