“I’d rather lose an election than lose my bearings”

Check out The New York Times editorial endorsement today:

Hyperbole is the currency of presidential campaigns, but this year the nation’s future truly hangs in the balance.

~~~
In the same time, Senator John McCain of Arizona has retreated farther and farther to the fringe of American politics, running a campaign on partisan division, class warfare and even hints of racism. His policies and worldview are mired in the past. His choice of a running mate so evidently unfit for the office was a final act of opportunism and bad judgment that eclipsed the accomplishments of 26 years in Congress.
Read all 3 pages if you want to feel nauseous.
Then read Charles Krauthammer:
Contrarian that I am, I’m voting for John McCain. I’m not talking about bucking the polls or the media consensus that it’s over before it’s over. I’m talking about bucking the rush of wet-fingered conservatives leaping to Barack Obama before they’re left out in the cold without a single state dinner for the next four years.
I stand athwart the rush of conservative ship-jumpers of every stripe — neo (Ken Adelman), moderate (Colin Powell), genetic/ironic (Christopher Buckley) and socialist/atheist (Christopher Hitchens) — yelling “Stop!” I shall have no part of this motley crew. I will go down with the McCain ship. I’d rather lose an election than lose my bearings.
First, I’ll have no truck with the phony case ginned up to rationalize voting for the most liberal and inexperienced presidential nominee in living memory. The “erratic” temperament issue, for example. As if McCain’s risky and unsuccessful but in no way irrational attempt to tactically maneuver his way through the economic tsunami that came crashing down a month ago renders unfit for office a man who demonstrated the most admirable equanimity and courage in the face of unimaginable pressures as a prisoner of war, and who later steadily navigated innumerable challenges and setbacks, not the least of which was the collapse of his campaign just a year ago.
McCain the “erratic” is a cheap Obama talking point. The 40-year record testifies to McCain the stalwart.
Nor will I countenance the “dirty campaign” pretense. The double standard here is stunning. Obama ran a scurrilous Spanish-language ad falsely associating McCain with anti-Hispanic slurs. Another ad falsely claimed McCain supports “cutting Social Security benefits in half.” And for months Democrats insisted that McCain sought 100 years of war in Iraq.
McCain’s critics are offended that he raised the issue of William Ayers. What’s astonishing is that Obama was himself not offended by William Ayers.
Ignore the polls. They are erratic. Don’t ignore the mainstream media. Challenge them. Fight their lopsided narrative, tooth and nail. Don’t get discouraged, and remember: We’ve all been here before, including the New York Times on the wrong side of history. Again.
Wordsmith: [Ignore the polls. They are erratic.]
Yes, most DEFINITELY ignore the polls!! One thing that people forget is that this same kind of thing happened during the Bush/Kerry election, telling people it was all over before the polls closed, so you might as well just stay home! LOL, and Bush won by 3,012,000 votes. Another factor that the media is conveniently forgetting to mention is Operation Chaos, and how many of those registered “Democrat” voters during the primaries are going to vote Democrat in the general election? Not. And alas, there’s ACORN, and how ever much they have skewed the stats, I don’t know, but trust all that will come to the light.
As I call voters, I emphasize this point, that they were saying the same thing in the media this time 4 years ago, so DON’T BELIEVE a word of it. Having said that, we still need to reach out to voters to get the good word out there, and work confidently until election day! It’s not over until it’s over, as they say!
Never trust the polls. They are all biased and use more Dems and Inds(Dems but just will not sayit) than Rep.
The poll that has been the most accurate over the years has Obama only up by1. And Polls arenot scientific, they area scientifis guestimate.
And I wonder if in any of these polls they are figuring in the PUMAS,which are registered Dems.
I am with Krauthhammer, I am notgoing to let the MSM or the media elites tell me what to think.
America’s worst enemy is your MSM. They can do more damage to your country than the terrorists. Get rid of them. You have the right to do it. It is more than a right, it is your duty to stop that communist propaganda.
Thanks guys for the words of encouragement. We just turned our local news (Cleveland) off. They were just gushing about MO’s visit today. What a farce. Couple days ago when John McCain was in the area it was a ho-hum news evening. The MSM will never do my thinking for me. As for the polls I suspect they have been bought off too.
Tillthen,
Wow! This is a very powerful video that you have linked on comment, #2. I feel the same way as Reverend Manning. Here is the video Tillthen,suggested:
Yes, a stirring speech from the good reverend. It’s good to see that black preachers are looking beyond color, seeing Barrack for what he really is, and not buying into the hype.
I was almost surprised by Krauthammer’s backing of McCain after being critical of him on Fox after the debate.
