No, it’s not a new position. It’s not a zinger, a gaffe, a fubar, a snafu, or a doh. It’s a reality check.

We cannot allow Iran to get a nuclear weapon. It would be a game-changer in the region. Not only would it threaten Israel, our strongest ally in the region and one of our strongest allies in the world, but it would also create a possibility of nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists. And so it’s unacceptable. And I will do everything that’s required to prevent it. And we will never take military options off the table. And it is important that we don’t provide veto power to the United Nations or anyone else in acting in our interests.

Every Presidential term in American history has 3 common denominators:
1) a natural disaster will happen
2) the economy can always be doing better
3) there will be a dangerous, foreign crisis

Now, there’s no way to tell how many hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes will happen in the next 4yrs, and we all know that the economy CLEARLY will be a major issue in that same period of time, but we also know that there will be a crisis with Iran in the next 700 days; a crisis that very likely could lead to a major escalation of America’s war in the Middle East. We’re told that Iran is 2 years from having a bomb (of course, that report is at least six months old, and the UN’s IAEA director recently announced that Iran might already have at least one nuclear bomb). In any event, the next President will have to face down Iran, and there is very little hope that anything shy of military strikes will postpone Iran’s nuclear bomb pursuits. That’s why the above quote from Senator Barack Obama is, in my opinion, the best of the night.

The quote destroys the leftist myth that President Bush is a warmonger towards Iran-at least no more than the Democratic Party’s nominee for President, Barack Obama.

700 days (or less) from now, when President Obama addresses the nation and makes his case for war with Iran on claims that they are a state-sponsor of terrorism, and that they have WMD…Republicans everywhere will hold their heads high, and Democrats will follow like lemmings rather than protest.

Why? Because Obama has a D next to his name, and he’s a gooder speechifactionist than President Bush. I’m reminded of something Senator Joe Biden (D), said at the Vice Presidential debate. He was making a claim about Senator McCain’s foreign policy. Gaffe-artist that he is, Joe Biden didn’t even realize he was talking about his own running mate:

I haven’t heard how his policy is going to be different on Iran than George Bush’s.

Nothing will vindicate George W Bush, and make his foreign policy look better than an Obama administration. Having opposed his policies for years-an Obama administration will immediately wrap itself in those exact same policies and try the very same actions with less conviction, less resolve, and infinitely more support (since Democrats won’t be opposing them anymore).

I think the differences have more to do with diplomatic approach rather than the will to do what’s necessary should that diplomacy fail. I actually trust that every candidate this year-even loonies like Ron Paul and Kuccinich, would have similar reactions were they to be placed in the position of protecting Isreal and America.

I thought your favorite would be-

As president of the United States, Alan, I would order the secretary of the treasury to immediately buy up the bad home loan mortgages in America and renegotiate at the new value of those homes — at the diminished value of those homes and let people be able to make those — be able to make those payments and stay in their homes.

Or in other words-

I’m from the government and I’m here to help.

Except the big 0 didn’t actually answer the posed question which was whether he would commit US forces to defend Israel it it were attacked by Iran.

ObamArafat would never defend Israel… no way! He is a Palestinian’s supporter.

The candidates have a major difference in their leadership styles: McCain tends to say, “Follow me because the other guy can’t get it done” while Obama says, “Follow me because I can get it done.” Ideally, the candidates should say, “Follow me because i will help you get it done” … in any case, of the two of them Obama demonstrates a better leadership mentality
