wow, so the messiah asking for them to cease their attack didn’t? imagine that. you can’t ask nicelly, it doesn’t work that way. funny, how many international leaders asked for the russians to stop, and obama takes credit. now he is the idiot who was wrong, AGAIN. russia is way out of bounds on this and every step farther into georgia that they take is one step further from the cordial relations with the rest of the world. any moron can see this, does putin really think he can do this and get away with it? really sad for all of the georgains who have tried to live their lives in peace and away from the dictatorship.

luva: Obama forgot to say “pretty please.”

Wow, the Messiah spoke and his henchman, Susan Rice, went out to actually blame McCain over his heated rhetoric and what do you know???

Vlad the Imperial Impaler didn’t listen to our beloved oracle of truth & justice…

Go figure, maybe Barry Hussein Soetero (ops, sorry I said his middle name) can schedule a fundraiser in Moscow, so he can go pay homage to Lenin’s Tomb!!!

Throughout the 90’s I spent years working throughout the former Soviet Republics and Russia. I made many friends in Russia. I really like the Russians – they have a pathos around them unlike any other nationality I know. I spent 2 years in Krasnodar Krai, not far from Chechnia and Georgia and enjoyed myself there. I never much liked the Georgians, who always came off as a bit shady.

That said, I have no doubt whatsoever that Russia engineered this whole thing.

Imagine if Mexico give passports to everyone in South Texas (where hispanics are now the majority), and then moved in ‘peacekeepers’ to protect them. Wouldn’t the U.S. be justified in responding? And let’s say Mexico’s military is much stronger, and their counterresponse drives tanks into New Orleans and St. Louis? That’s basically what’s happened here.

Dreadnought,

It gets worse in this case. using your analogy (which is very good), the “Mexican Army” is now moving towards upstate Maine and threatening “Canada” with the same.

“Canada” being the Ukraine and most likely evey other former “republic” of the USSR.

News reports are coming out that Georgia was experiencing concerted cyber attacks weeks before the Russian invasion. In the Army, we are taught there is no such thing as a coincidence. For instance, one does not just have a few divisions at full readiness with logistics tails in place and routes planned and also have navel assets in place as Russia did.

“For war, you need three things 1. Money. 2. Money. 3. Money.”
Raimondo Montecuccoli

Something tells me the Russians aren’t exactly scared of isolation or economic stagnation. The recent oil price spike has them flooded with funds that they seem eager to spend on re-establishing their old imperialistic ways. Old habits die hard. If the price of oil were under $40 maybe they would listen…

Meanwhile Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili tells McCain “less talk more rock”.

Fit Fit: One answer to that is energy independence. Not only for the U.S. but also a program to help our allies in Europe who are dependent on Russian energy.

The issue of the Soviet gas pipeline was a big one in the early 1980’s when we were trying to punish the Soviets for invading Afghanistan. It didn’t work very well because the Europeans didn’t have much choice. We should have learned that lesson then. We cannot afford to continue repeating that mistake.

The obvious answer is energy independence. I think we just disagree on the best plan for that.

Drive your SUV’s 20% less.

That’s the best place to start.

FF: You can get energy independence in just a few years by removing the Congressional moratorium and expediting resolution of regulatory and envioronmental concerns.

Millons and millions of barrels would be available in a few short years and the proceeds from that could go to build the clean burning coal plants, windmills, solar and whatever else to power the alternative energy future.

Half measures won’t get there now or ever.

And war and death will the consequence of our delay.

“Arthur’s” attitude is typical of the elitist mindset that shows such callous indifference to the working people of this country.

In case he had not noticed, oil consumption has already dropped dramatically. The high price of gas is already making it difficult for working families to get to work and back.

We can’t conserve our way out of the energy crisis Artie and your comment is proof of the total banckruptcy of ideas from most people on the left.

I have yet to see Lefties argue intelligently over anything, and this is no exception.

Let’s face it. Kosovo independence established a dangerous precedent by giving leftgitimacy to seperatist states. Since Bush climbed onto that fool’s bandwagon, he’s got no room to qvetch, especially since it appears that the Ossetians aren’t using terror (at least compared to the Islamists of Kosovo), but a democratic referendum (or 2?) to give real legitimacy to their claims. Apparently over 90% (some claim as high as 98-99%) of voters supported independence.

I hate to say it, but they do have a case.

…and it’s supported by otherwise conservative bloggers, like Luboš Motl (who I don’t think is any too fond of the Ruskies, btw)

“Drive your SUV’s 20% less.

Ooooooooo,,, the big bad boogieman SUV… give me a freaking break…
How about Al Bore stays home for a couple of months and that will be thousands of gallons of gas and jet fuel for real people????

I don’t have a problem with alternative energy but it’s simply not cost effective right now…
drill here drill now and then we can hopefully afford to develop the alternatives…

Anyone who believes we can be independent of fossil fuels in 10 years either hasn’t done ANY real research or is an idiot or a moonbat, sorry the last two were the same..

I am always touched by your concern for ‘working people’ Mike.

Especially when you riff on trade unions.

Cheers.

Part of the problem big. We drive a lot of unnecessary miles and cutting back on those and improving fuel economy for the miles we must drive seems not a bad idea.

It will be years (if ever) before new wells come into production from proposed offshore drilling so it would seem conservation and stepped up public transportation can gain results more quickly.

Arthur,,, it will be many, many more years before alternative fuels can live up to their hype…
I’m too lazy today to give you the links.. so knock yourself out… actually look something up..

This is a BIG country… public transportation will not work the same here as it does in your Europa…
Seriously son,, I’m not being a smart ass for a change.. you have to be realistic..
I know it will be years with drilling,,, but it will be less years than alternative fuels.. you watermelons just don’t get it..
Put your emotions aside and do some real,, not du research and learn the truth…
Our country is dependent on oil from transportation to medicene…

As far as mileage,, you can only get so many BTU’s out of a gallon of gas which is why ethanol doesn’t work,, it’s less efficient.. pure and simple and actually costs more in oil than it saves..

All I ask from the greens is to make smart choices not the anti-capitalistic choices…

We need a buffer and drill here drill now is the answer unless you want to keep sucking mid east teet..

And for you wind fans this must be true…. after all it’s from Oregan…

To reinterate from AS #14

Part of the problem big. We drive a lot of unnecessary miles and cutting back on those and improving fuel economy for the miles we must drive seems not a bad idea.

Spoken like a true urbanite who has no concept of the life of flyover America… of which comprises a high percentage of this nation. Look beyond your city lights and local Starbucks, dude. There is life unlike that of yours.

Trust me, AS… at the prices of fuel, the rural types are far more frugal with trips and fuel than the urbanites and their trips to their Starbucks and benefits for ALF members.

However SUVs and their utilitarian use in our neck of the woods should not be decided by you city’ites, who choose to live a’top each other with (maybe, if you’re lucky) public transport.

And next time you go to a grocery store to buy “local produce”, make sure to find out if the farmer had enough time and cash to delivery it in electric cars or hybrids with multiple trips… or if he had to use his diesel truck with an all-in-one trip.

Today, “conservation”… which all of us would like to do as choice… is a privilege of the wealthy. They make alternative energies and vehicles out of the price range of the common citizen. Not every one can be Al Gore, afterall. We don’t own carbon offset companies, green energy companies, and charities that donate to all of the above for the tax write offs.

When you get it where it’s feasible for not just the wealthy (that you so like to disdain), be sure to send us an email alert….

Arthur said: “It will be years (if ever) before new wells come into production from proposed offshore drilling”

Just another of the big lies Artie and his elitist friends use to keep the ill-informed from realizing how badly they are being used.

We’ve already debunked that bigee, but if anyone needs more info, other than Artie who already knows it’s a lie and can’t help himself, drop a line here and we can repeat it.

Many new sources of oil could be online in two years or less. We know where it is, we have the infrastructure to deliver it and the only thing standing in the way of getting it is Artie and comrades.

As always, Stalin would be proud of Artie and pals.

And to further bust the already debunked “it will take years for wells to produce” lies/pre-programmed talking points from the left, Michigan wildcat wells (oil is almost as shallow a depth as water in places here), are producing within a month or two of construction. Not years, months.

This is with private resources. If the state would let the “evil” big oil companies in and drill (since Michigan’s state pension is very tied to oil companies), the production would skyrocket. But then, the state would lose all the money in sales taxes they are making off of retail gas.
