Pandering to the far-Left

Loading

I saw this article from Ralph Peters and found it interesting; especially in light of recent commentary I provided regarding the Democrats desire to see us lose in Iraq. I feel compelled to add my two cents on the subject (something I’ve done ad nauseum in the past and will undoubtedly do in the future).

Recently, the New York Times reversed their anti-war course and ran an article from two Washington think-tank members, Michael O’Hanlon of The Brookings Institution and Ken Pollack of Brookings’ Saban Center, who recently toured Iraq. What’s surprising is that despite the article’s overwhelming positivity, the Times ran the article rather than adhere to the Left mantra of “cut and run.”

Before we start lauding the Times for their sudden 180 degree turnaround to the RIGHT, let’s remember that this same editorial crew has stopped at nothing to sack President Bush, expose secret military and intelligence programs designed to protect the American people, and use it’s journalistic license to wage partisanship in a forum intended to be nonpartisan.

From the top, it’s sad that the Democrats have placed their political careers as well as interests of radical far-Left fringe groups, ABOVE the interests of this country. Rather than take a frontal approach and confront this dangerous method head-on, thus insuring national security, the Democrats have supposedly listened to their contingencies, despite the fact that American support for the Iraq War is INCREASING.

But the potentially fatal problem remains the cowardice and selfishness of politicians in both parties who care far more about retaining their offices in the 2008 elections (or gaining higher ones) than they do about Iraq, our troops or our national security.”

In other words folks, they’ve read the contemptible vitriol emanating from places like the Daily Kos message boards and chose to appease the far-Left. I’ll give the Democrats one thing, when they appease they do not merely stop with the Islamic terrorists, they attempt to pacify anyone with a vote.

We’ve been hearing for months that we’ll know more about the surge and progress in Iraq come September. With that said, we’re staring to hear reports that the violence has dropped dramatically throughout the troublesome Al Anbar province and the “Sunni Triangle.”

A normal person would undoubtedly fall on his or her knees and thank the Almighty for such wondrous news. Unfortunately, the Democrats aren’t normal. Rather than witness one of the greatest turnarounds in military history, they’re openly rooting for our defeat in Iraq.

Why? Sadly, to pander and appease the far-Left kooks at MoveOn.org and the Daily Kos.

“Even more important, the fact that the Times accepted the new reality in Iraq – at least to the extent of running a single op-ed about it – makes it more probable that the "last to know" and the "don’t want to know" anti-war hucksters on Capitol Hill might start to feel the shift in the wind’s direction.”

Iraq looks more hopeful than it has since mid-2003. Recent polls show that the American electorate’s support of the war has been increasing. And, as Monday’s column noted, troop morale has soared as soldiers and Marines see street-level results.”

Sadly, this is what the Democrats don’t either want or care to understand. While they champion their love for the American military, they undermine with idle threats to cut off funding for the war, the direct recipient of which being the American military.

Kudos to General Petraus and the military for once again proving their worth and mettle as the world’s truly elite fighting force. Furthemore, despite the obvious advantages of the surge, it will undoubtedly force the Democrats in a corner. Do they continue to undermine the troops and show their true colors as a group of spineless pacifists, or do they do what’s right for this country by standing up to Islamic terror.

Continued support for the Iraq War would be a good start.

A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention, updated throughout the day…so check back often.

And if (as expected) Democratic Party leaders ignore anything Gen P reports and just advocate unconditional retreat from the battlefield, that is to say, if the party leaders continue to pander to their increasingly pissed off and frustrated base, then what’s next?

It’s like watching a two-move chess player in a game that’s got deadly consequences. Already Sen Clinton has been bitten by the base for not apologizing for her initial promotion, authorization, and support for the removal of a dictator. Similarly, Sen Obama is now being bitten by the the far left for advocating an attack on the one geographical location on the planet that has never in human history been conquered: the Afghan/Pakistan tribal region. Great idea. In keeping with DNC military strategy we can presume that their New Direction in Waziristan will be a naval strike using McHale’s Navy (check a map if you don’t get it). Seriously, what are a Pres Clinton or a Pres Obama gonna do?
They can’t ignore the threat if they get power (ie responsibility).
They can’t blame Bush as it’ll be their problem (a particularly ironic situation for a President Clinton to blame the prior President given her husband’s legacy handed to Pres Bush: USS Cole, recession, 911 plot in motion, UBL kill attempts aborted, and the breakdown of both sanctions and diplomacy in the effort to contain Saddam). Yeah, that “It’s the other guy’s fault” line just ain’t gonna wash with Pres Clinton.
They can’t be isolationist and live in that pipedream while at the same time going after the AQ threats around the world.
How’s that gonna work for Pres Obama? “We need to run from Iraq because we can’t handle 10-30,000 insurgents in the desert with 150,000 soldiers, BUT 100-1000 commandos will be enough to deal with 150,000 bad guys in the mts along the Afghan/Pakistan border” Nice plan. Time to start the resurrection of Ernest Borgnine now.

When Democratic Party leaders react to the Surge report next month, they’re gonna have to finally take action. Their base expects it (having been blown off, put off, and misled for the past 10 months since Dems took power). Conversely, if the Democratic Party leaders DO take the action their base is hoping for (the unconditional withdrawal from the war in Iraq), then those same people who cast the votes to make that happen will finally be accountable for something regarding the war, and worst of all they will be accountable for the war’s future…a future they hope to inherit.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again,
“responsibility”
“accountability”
“results”
These words are as vacant from the Democratic Party as the words, “In God We Trust.”

The last thing Democrats want is to have to be accountable for their actions and responsible for the future they seek to preside over.

They postponed that accountability when elected by telling their base they hadn’t been sworn in yet
They postponed that accountability when they were sworn in by telling their base it would take time to start forming a plan that they said they already had months earlier
They postponed their base by telling them that non-binding resolutions would do something…or something or another
They postponed accountability by telling their base that while they had power in Congress, they need more to get things past a veto
They postponed accountability by telling their base that they’d make a decision later
Now they’ve postponed accountability by telling their base that they’ll wait to hear what the generals tell them in September despite having already stated in no uncertain terms that they won’t believe the generals

NOTICE TO ALL DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS:
You have but a scant few weeks to either muster up the courage, conviction, and balls to face your supporters and tell them the truth; the Iraq War is important, necessary, and has to be fought. Failure to find those cajones will force you to take action that will have consequences for which you will have to later take responsibility for causing.

Time to suck it up, tell the truth, talk truth to the power that elects you, and stop being the opposition party (an unattractive look for those who have a majority in both houses and lead in the Presidential race).

It’s time to put up or shut up…in fact…it has been for years now.
