There are many reasons to like Rudy, and the reasons for his appeal are obvious.

He’s got an uphill battle though to win the evangelical vote because of past softness on social issues. NRA members (like me) will also be wary.

You can say “who else will they vote for?” and the answer is “nobody”. I was talking to a guy last night (evangelical) who swears he will stay at home or vote for himself if Rudy gets the nomination.

Bottom line is that the entire scene will change when Fred Thompson announces.

You can say “who else will they vote for?” and the answer is “nobody”.

That kind of attitude is exactly the reason why we have a Democrat controlled congress and may very well lead to a Hillary Presidency.

It’s a disturbing way of thinking imo. Conservatives recognize he is strong on foreign policy, against the war on terror and so forth but would rather Hillary get elected because he is pro-abortion? And this helps how?

I don’t think that the social issues thing is that big of a handicap for Rudy. I had a copy of Rudy’s book “Leadership” here when my parent’s visited last winter. My father, who is a retired OB-GYN who also traveled the state of Ohio speaking to Christian groups in opposition to abortion was so impressed by what Rudy did for New York (in the face of opposition that might make what Bush has endured seem tame) that he mentioned it repeatedly.

Though my father did have strong concerns about the gun control issue and wanted me to ask Rudy about that if I had the chance.

Maybe I will next time.

Tom: You and I both know what happened when a very small number of disaffected conservatives sat out the 2006 election. Certainly none of them can be pleased with what Democrats have done as a result. If Hillary won in a race with Rudy because of similar conservative misgivings they would have no one to blame when abortion became not only legal but taught in public schools as an accepted form of birth control.

There is no such thing as a perfect candidate. Though we’ve all been looking for someone with whom we could identify 100% that person does not exist. And although Fred Thompson is at the top of my list (and Rudy is up there too) there are one or two issues where he might not be Mr. Perfect.

But still, any Republican other than Ron Paul would be better than Hillary Clinton.

Nice pictures and story. Yeah, I have a strong preference for Thompson or Hunter based on what we have seen to date but I also have immense respect for Rudy G and if he gets the nomination he’s got my vote. Kind of like the last poster said, anyone other than Ron Paul would do the job better than any of the Dems, no problem.

For Rudy and his wife to Judith to show up, nicely dressed in that kind of heat, is worth your vote.

More seriously, Rudy has a fairly tight message that has definite appeal. And, it does come down to a single factor, that being leadership. I don’t have to agree with him on every single issue before. I also like Fred Thompson a lot. The rest of the field, not so much.

As for those who say, “I’ll stay home before I vote for him,” it will defnitely hand victory to Democrats. We saw this in 1992, and again in 2006. Do you really want this to happen again?
