Stop Snitching T-Shirts

I really am not sure what surprises me more about this story. The fact that a business would sell shirts that tell you to stop helping the police solve crimes or the fact that community activists are pissed about them:

LOS ANGELES — Community activists gathered Monday in the Crenshaw District to ask a merchant to remove a shirt from his store window.

The shirt reads “Snitches Get Stitches.” The other side of the shirt reads “Stop Snitchin.”

Activists said the shirt discourages cooperation with police.

“Why are we promoting a message that says, ‘Snitches Get Stitches?'” said Najee Ali of Project Islamic Hope. “We need people to snitch on who killed little Damien last Friday night. We need people to tell who drove that car that killed that innocent baby.”

One resident said he would not provide information to police because of retribution.

“I just wouldn’t turn anyone in because it’s not my business,” he said. “Don’t tell on anyone because if you do, you get killed.”

Rita Herron, of Mothers On The March, recalled the case of a grandmother shot while sitting on a bus stop bench. Lois Gean Cole died near 94th Street and Western Avenue in July when she was caught between the crossfire of two gang members.

“So, in the exiting, she’s the one who loses her life and we’re protecting them,” Herron said.

No arrests have been made in the case.

LAPD Chief William Bratton said the shirts, which sell for about $10, are “foolish.”

“That same foolishness began in Baltimore, which has one of the highest homicide rates in the United States,” Bratton said. “It’s a direct result of people in that city not willing to work with police to give information on homicides and shootings that are devastating their city.

“Shame on that store. Shame on anybody that’s selling them.”

The merchant told NBC4 that he sells about six shirts per day.

Can’t believe I actually agree with these activists because for the most part they are wrong about everything. But not this one.

Here’s another one that should make the black community proud:
