How ‘Citizens United’ Ruling Screws the Free Market

Reverse Citizens United

Why are Democrats still obsessed with Citizens United?

Remember how democrats wanted to introduce legislation to reverse the Citizens ruling?

A pair of House Democrats introduced legislation Tuesday to overturn the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United ruling that freed corporations to spend unlimited money on elections.

Sponsored by Reps. John Conyers (Mich.), senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, and Donna Edwards (D-Md.), the proposal would amend the Constitution to empower Congress and the states to limit corporate spending on political activities.

“Last year, the Supreme Court overturned decades of law and declared open season on our democracy,” Conyers said in a news release. “It is individual voters who should determine the future of this nation, not corporate money.”

Let me introduce you to the person who first argued that corporations should be treated as people:

Eric Holder

Eric Holder

Yes, THAT Eric Holder.

In 1999, when Holder was deputy attorney general under President Clinton, he wrote a now-infamous memo (pdf) outlining guidelines for bringing criminal charges against corporations, in which he argued that companies should be treated no differently than individuals. He added this precedent-setting caveat, however: “Prosecutors may consider the collateral consequences of a corporate criminal conviction in determining whether to charge the corporation with a criminal offense.”

Here’s the actual memo.

Surprise!

Remember this the next time you hear a democrat whining about Citizens.

Gee a two faced prick, who could have guessed.

This president, this administration has the notion that we are too stupid. They assume we won’t find a video, audio recording, transcripts, white papers, etc. arguing the opposite.

It was a totally different context, geniuses.

@This+one:
Again you are clueless. Your potemkin viilage must be so nice.

@Mully: Oh man… Potemkin village idiot… Priceless!
