UPDATE: Obama Campaign Sues to Suppress Military Votes

Loading

UPDATE: After reading the entire law and the Obama campaign efforts, the story has taken a slightly different turn. I won’t delete this post since my integrity forbids me from hiding my mistakes, but owning them. The Obama campaign is not seeking to suppress the military vote…this time. It was easy for me to jump on that bandwagon since the Obama Justice Department has refused to enforce laws meant to assist overseas troops’ voting rights. When states failed to get ballots out to troops on time during the 2010 election, Holder refused to sue those them. So, when I initially read these reports it fit with the Obama narrative.

However, now that I am more informed and educated, the reality is that the campaign is suing to give EVERYONE the same voting opportunities as the troops. In essence, the suit is designed to give non-military voters an extra three days to vote in early voting. This means that liberals will be able to cast at least ten more votes per person.

By suing to have this law changed, the Obama campaign and DNC are basically saying that the sacrifices troops make that resulted in the need for the three additional dates is no more important than the sacrifices of every other citizen.

There’s a saying that goes, “when everyone is special, no one is special.”

Since President Obama began his 2012 reelection campaign back in January 2009, my inbox has been inundated with emails from the administration touting all the great things it has done for our troops. Program after program after program geared towards helping troops. Everything from the First Lady’s “Joining Forces” initiative to the launch of the redesigned Transition Assistance Program for troops leaving the service. Many are saying that the military vote could be the deciding factor in several key states.

The campaign even sent out a link to this Huffington Post op-ed written by Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Beau, who, according to the byline wrote it as a Major in the National Guard:

To help veterans find jobs when they get home, President Obama signed into law two tax credits that encourage businesses to hire unemployed veterans and wounded warriors.

A record number of veterans are entering the VA health system, so President Obama has significantly boosted the Veterans Affairs budget to ensure that veterans receive timely access to the highest-quality benefits and services. And though he knew it would be difficult, he’s making sure the VA eliminates the backlog by 2015.

Often times, it’s easy for a politician – on both sides of the aisle – to claim their overwhelming support for our nation’s fighting troops. It’s not hard to throw money at a perceived problem and say that something is being done.

If you really want to know whether a candidate supports the troops, one simply needs to observe their actions.

On July 17th, the Obama for America Campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and the Ohio Democratic Party filed suit in OH to strike down part of that state’s law governing voting by members of the military. Their suit said that part of the law is “arbitrary” with “no discernible rational basis.”

Currently, Ohio allows the public to vote early in-person up until the Friday before the election. Members of the military are given three extra days to do so. While the Democrats may see this as “arbitrary” and having “no discernible rational basis,” I think it is entirely reasonable given the demands on servicemen and women’s time and their obligations to their sworn duty.

While our Justice Department is working so hard to ensure that states can’t prevent the illegal immigrant vote, our troops’ votes are being sold down the river.

“It has been hashed out on numerous threads here before. ”

As this article shows, just because you guys hash it out, that don’t make it so. That’s the point, even wrong, you guys somehow think that proves your point, or you shift the goal posts. What brought me here was the headline, which is a lie. And all the talk about Iraq, and health-care for military vets (always terrific before Obama, huh?), and honor and whatever it is you have to run to inorder to feel like you are on solid ground. But I see you standing on articles like this, reflecting preconcieved, ultimately proven wrong, internal narratives you create yourselves, pushed off on Obama, and liberals, and other boogie-men.

Great article, loved it.

@another vet: Obama also proposed that wounded vets use their Health Insurance instead of the VA.

@Randy: There are probably a few more things I missed as well.

@Randy:

Not that this article is about it, but is there something wrong with our for-profit free-market capitalistic national health care system? Isn’t it the best system in the world? Isn’t it what the vets are fighting and getting injured for; the free-market system? Doesn’t turning to your own government for help breed dependency? Aren’t all government programs run inefficiently? I think I heard some people saying stuff like that…. I don’t believe the Vets should have to put up with the insurance companies…..no one should.

@Brian Miller: It has been hashed out on numerous threads before by those of us who have experienced the cuts. If you don’t have the experience, that doesn’t make what you say true.

As for the rest, go back to your number 35. You are the one who are the one who changed topics and tried to demean CJ by questioning his manhood. When challenged, you reverted back to the original topic. If you are going to insult people and get in their faces, you best be able to back up your statements. Insults and bullying may work on other blogs, it won’t work.

@Brian Miller:
CJ post 28 – “Don’t talk to me about integrity or honor. I have more of it in the pinky nail clipping I just removed than you will ever hold a candle to. ”

So, does 28 come after 35 in your guys world? Probably.

@Brian Miller: From your number 25:

Certain people refers to morons and the easily led, hint hint.

28 comes after 25 in our world.

@another vet:
I guess smart people also spread lies….. I should not have implied the lie was done moronically, sorry.

@Brian Miller: You are living proof that there is no cure for stupid. If you were just ignorant, I could and would try to carry on a conversation with you. It appears that you can not understand the difference in being injured on the job and at home. Injuries on the job are the responsibility of the employer whether it is private companies or the government. On the job injuries are not covered by any health insurance companies. Rant all you want, you will not be engaging me.

MISS FLUKE SAID, THIS ELECTION IS TO SEE IF THE RIGHT OF WOMAN WILL BE ROLL BACK.
she did not mention the right of BABIES to be born will be rolled back if OBAMA IS VOTE BACK IN.

@CJ:

“Doesn’t turning to your own government for help breed dependency?” Yes, for most of society. For troops, however, that our nation sends to war to fight and potentially die, but certainly get injured, it is the responsibility of that nation to take care of those medical needs that arise because of that service. People sitting on their ass cashing their welfare checks to purchase cigarettes and booze don’t have medical needs as a result of defending this nation. So, in those cases they breed dependency.

All due respect, that’s bullsh*t. Yes, of course active duty and veteran military deserve the best healthcare on Earth and for taxpayers to pay for it, and I personally am happy to pay tax dollars to do that. I would happily pay more if it would improve your healthcare. Would you advocate for a tax increase to improve your healthcare, right now, here?

But that’s not really what’s BS. The BS is you believing you personally know who is good enough for healthcare. Is some orphan kid? Is some old man with no family? What about (gasp) an unemployed single mother? Are you judging the kid too or just the mother? The world isn’t just military heroes and lazy welfare queens. There’s actually lot of people who deserve healthcare in this country. Let’s just say, for argument’s sake, everyone. It’s one thing to attack the manner in which health care is delivered. But it’s another to judge who is worthy and unworthy to be taken care of.

TOM
you are a despicable person to attack on CJ COMMENT, you are not able to discern the logic and make the difference or you want to pick on him for telling the truth? which one?
he has made it clear enough for anyone to understand, except the morons alike.
you should not answer if you cannot understand what is said, you fall in with the other libtard here who think they have reach the knowledge of all things and come here to spread the nasty STUPIDITY
so to confront the CONSERVATIVES, and try
to discredit their word,
and that’s why you come every chance you have,
it’s not to share ideas, but to discredit someone’s comment.
keep in mind the MILLITARY have more compassion then you
all can come up with, so spare us with your bulshit,

@Tom: The problem is the freeloaders. Having been a Reservist and now retired form the military, I have always had my own health insurance. Even now with the economy the way it is and having to penny pinch, I still have my own insurance because I don’t trust the VA with my healthcare needs. I’ve known people who have claimed that they can’t afford health insurance and that it should be provided to them by the government. These folks smoked one or two packs of cigarettes a day, ate fast food for lunch, had a few cold ones at the bar after work, and ate out for dinner at least two or three times a week. But they couldn’t afford health insurance. Whose fault is that? Dropping the smokes would be enough to pay for the insurance and probably lessen the need to use it. If you were to give someone without health insurance say $4,000, how much do want to bet they would spend the money on big screen TV’s, IPOD’s, IPAD’s, $100 gym shoes, or a nice vacation instead of purchasing health insurance? It doesn’t stop with health insurance either. I’ve known people who were foreclosed on with their house but they were able to “afford” gas guzzling SUV’s, big screen TV’s, parties, eating out, vacations etc., but they couldn’t pay their mortgage. It’s all about priorities and individual responsibility. At some point in time we need to quit wiping peoples’ asses for them and let them sink or swim on their own.

another vet
hi, this is the best I heard so far, if they don’t get this explanation,
they better go back to pre school,
bye

@another vet:

What you’ve just articulated could be an argument for the individual mandate. Make people pay, through insurance premiums, for what they’re going to consume either way. Perhaps you feel that it’s unconstitutional though, which brings us back to square one. The question is, are you willing to pay for freeloaders as the cost of providing health care to those who truly deserve and need it? Or are you willing to allow those individuals to suffer as the cost of not supporting freeloaders?

@Tom: You are correct, I strongly believe that the mandate is unconstitutional regardless if it’s a tax or a penalty. With or without it, we are going to pay for those who don’t have insurance. As for the suffering, it’s an individual choice. If they blow off health insurance to pay for wants that they perceive as needs, it’s their decision and they will have to live with it. It’s no ones fault but their own. I asked this to Larry once so I will ask you the same question. Now that the mandate has been upheld, which supports a cause you believe in, are you willing to see that applied to something you don’t believe in? For example, say social conservatives gain a majority. They can use the law as a precedent to say, level heavy taxes on abortions to force people not to have them. Remember, this precedent can be used to promote conservative agendas just as much liberal ones. Anyhow, to me here is the best health news of the day:

http://www.newsmaxhealth.com/headline_health/beer_healthier/2012/08/08/467515.html

@another vet:

As for the suffering, it’s an individual choice.

Really? What about children, the mentally ill, the elderly, the disabled, victims of natural disasters? It’s easy to hide from the reality behind who receives government assistance if one just dismisses them en masse as lazy and deceitful individuals. The “welfare queen” myth has been one of the most damaging phrases in modern American politics because it gives certain people the perception of a moral cover for categorically looking away from suffering.

Now that the mandate has been upheld, which supports a cause you believe in, are you willing to see that applied to something you don’t believe in?

That’s an interesting question. Of course the specific reason it was upheld would likely preclude such maneuvering. But to answer your question, no I would not be in favor of social engineering through taxation. Unlike the causes you’re talking about, I don’t feel that healthcare is or should be a “right/left” issue. How it is delivered is of course another story and worthy of vigorous debate.

@Tom: Move on Another Vet! Tom doesn’t want to think. He refuses to believe that some people make poor choices and that they should be held responsiblefor their decisions. You and I were raised to be accountable to ourselves and our country. Tom and his ilk were not!

@Tom:

Really? What about children, the mentally ill, the elderly, the disabled, victims of natural disasters? It’s easy to hide from the reality behind who receives government assistance if one just dismisses them en masse as lazy and deceitful individuals.

Where did I single out these groups? The elderly are covered by Medicare. The disabled and mentally ill are covered as well. If someone is an able bodied adult and has never been able to find work they are lazy, plain and simple. If someone can afford cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, SUV’s, widescreen TV’s, vacations, etc., etc., they can afford health insurance. Equating them with children, the elderly, the disabled, and the mentally ill is ridiculous. To say that someone who is too lazy to work or too irresponsible to manage their finances in able to afford insurance even though they can afford luxuries, is the same as someone who was born with a disability or mental illness, is an insult to the person with the disability or illness.

@CJ: @another vet:

I am not advocating for the lazy and those who are irresponsible. My point is that there are many others who use services who aren’t lazy or irresponsible, so when you limit all services, you affect them too. By some estimates 15 million children live below the federal poverty line. It’s very possible that some of those children have irresponsible parents, but we can’t hold the child accountable. So we should think about that before we base policy on a moral judgement.

We should also acknowledge that there are many other areas of waste and outright theft that impact our tax dollars. Medicaid fraud alone costs us billions of taxpayer dollars and is often perpetrated by sophisticated criminals. Placing the blame for our current economic circumstances 0n the poorest and weakest members of our society doesn’t seem like the place to start

Brian Miller
so your not a fan of OBAMA, so what are you doing here, it doesn’t look like you are with this crowd,
stop being an asshole and man up yourself, and LEAVE A HERO where he belong, THAT IS WAY UP
WHERE YOU ARE STANDING SINCE YOU START THE WINNING,
AND GET OF THE BACKS OF THE OTHER TRYING TO EDUCATE YOU.

OBAMA IS ATTACKING WITH LIES HIS FATHER TAUGHT HIM,
he is not credible,
PEOPLE don’t be fooled again, you gave him a chance for four years,
that is more than he deserve from the tolerant AMERICANS, because he is not satisfied with AMERICA,
he has never been, but his drug intake kept him quite, until he was handed POWER, NOW HE IS DESTROYING THE BEST OF AMERICA,
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

CJ
YES THE OBAMA IS FILLING A LAWSUIT AGAINST OHIO LAW WHICH WANT EXTRA TIME TO ALLOW THE MILITARY TO VOTE,
YOU WHERE ABSOLUTLY RIGHT,
AND THOSE STUPID TROLLS WHERE WRONG,
IT JUST BEEN SAID BY MEAGAN ON FOX

The republican voter suppression strategy doesn’t get much more blatant than this. The Ohio Secretary of State has suspended two democratic Board of Election members for expanding weekend voting hours in Montgomery County. Democrats said that Husted’s directive did not specifically prohibit additional weekend hours, according to Jerid Kurtz, spokesman for the Ohio Democratic Party.

@Greg: ##77
One radio talk show host had a great idea: The voting places should be open for 24 hours. That way, anybody on any shift they might be on could drop by on their way home and vote. Some people have a hard time juggling their schedule so they can vote.

This is just my second post and we were talking about Takhli, Thailand in 1965 and ones Vietnam Veteran ERA status. All we did wait all day on the flightline 12 hrs a day in our R-5 refueling units. I think we got 1 day a week off. We could watch them load 500 and 3,000 pounders onto the fighters. When they needed Napalm we took a truck and gave the keys to a civilian and no record was made of the JP-4 fuel and this went for the U-2’s also, we were’t allowed to see them. On at least one occassion a pilot was unable to release his bombs so he had to land with them and the plane exploded after he had bailed out & some of the debi landed near my fuel truck. I had a close call with a pit viper one day but I’ll leave out the details of this clean-up around the fuel shack. I can’t remember a single name of the POL guys I was stationed with, well it will soon be 50 years. I joined the USAF in 1957 to get the hell off this farm in East, TN. I was 17 yrs old. After catching infectious hepatitis and getting juvenille diabetes I have a type of dementia associated with long term diabetes so I wear a 9.5 Exelon patch that’s supposed’ to keep my memory from getting worse. Before I got medically retired I got sent to Andrews AFB on a special assignment to refuel Air Force One. I did get to put JP-5 on it one time before the diabetes diagnosis, it took more than a year to get a clearance to get a clearance for this. If this post is deemed un-necessay and of no interest I won’t post anymore. I do enjoy reading all the posts and wish I knew the website’s name or LINK. I do belong to facebook ?

The more, the merrier. This is a milblog. That means it is run my an active or retired military person or persons. If you don’t belong here, nobody does.

I apologize for having posted my message in the wrong place, but at least everyone knows my life story now:)
I have 3 Democrats on my email list so when you ask them how much better their life is after 4 years: ” Oh it’s all Bush’s fault that we are in this mess.” They quote everything bama says about Romney’s taxes etc etc etc.
When you worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard (CNSYD) and you got employed after 20 years mil service you were classified as a “Non Veteran” thanks to the democratic union we had. They tried to put me in that category, but being medically retired after 13 years with a service connected disability, they called me to personell evry year and questioned me about it and tried to put me in “that” category.
The VA and USAF both treat me well so I have no complaints. Tricare says “bamacare” won’t affect us, but I still have my doubts about it.

The average American doesn’t count in politics any more.

I got this video today and it brought tears to my eyes. I posted it on Facebook also. You may have to copy and paste this in you browser. I don’t know about posting these here ?
Charlie

Wow, like you’ve never heard before!!!!!!!!!

I never thought I would forward our National Anthem being sung by a “hard-rock” group.
Lib talk-show hosts and comedians have recently criticized the National Anthem as being stupid, silly, too militaristic,and many more insults. This band sings a version that will knock your socks off … a Navy vet sings the lead.

http://www.starspangledbannerchallenge.com/

Charles Owens [Charlie]
yes It’s very good, and must have been dificult to copy in rock version
and by a group also. I had reard just a part of it and liked it
thank you, for giving us the whole part,

@ilovebeeswarzone, #84:

the COLONEL AND HIS GROUP, found 30 thousand dead people on the DEMOCRAT’S VOTING LIST, these last few days alone, how’s that for TRYING TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM TO FIT THEIR NEED,

Dead people seldom call their most recent voters registration office to report that they’ve died. Fortunately, they’re equally unlikely to show up at their former polling places to vote.

Smorgasbord
the average AMERICAN BETTER PAY ATTENTION AT THIS TIME, AND REFLECT ON THEIR DUTY TO ELECT THE BEST FOR AMERICA, IT’S NOT OBAMA,
THEY WILL FIND SECURITY WITH MITT ROMNEY AT THE POST, BECAUSE HE WILL WORK,
NOT PLAY AND PARTY LIKE OBAMA WASTE SO MUCH TIME AND MONEY ON IT BUT NOTING ON AMERICANS, HE GOES ABROAD AND FLASH MONEY BY MILLIONS WHICH DOES NOT BELONG TO HIM,
SHOWING UP ARROGANTLY THAT HE CAN, WHILE THERE ARE 23 MILLIONS UNEMPLOYED HERE,
AND NON STOP WARS, KILLING THE BEST OF THIS NATION, HE DARE TO CUT THEIR EXPANSES IN TIME OF WAR,
HE WAS PUT IN THERE NOT FOR PROMISES BUT FOR PRODUCING THE JOBS INSTEAD OF HARASSING THE WEALTHY, AND HUMILIATE THE SMALL BUSYNESS, AND COLLECT FROM THEM WHAT HIS THUGS TRY TO GET BY INTIMIDATION, HE WAS PUT IN THERE TO ELEVATE THE SPIRIT OF AMERICA, NOT BOW AND APOLOGIZE FOR AMERICA, HE WAS PUT IN THERE TO SECURE THE WEALTH OF AMERICANS NOT GO ON SPENDING SPREE AND RAISE 16 TRILLIONS IN DEBT WHICH WILL TAKE GENERATION TO PAY JUST THE INTEREST OF IT,
THAT IS NOT A GOOD PRESIDENT, HE HIDE GOD, THE FLAG
AND THE CONSTITUTION IS AN OBSTACLE FOR HIM,
AMERICA YOU JUDGE HIM THIS IS YOUR TIME,

GREG
GEEZ, YOU ASK FOR THIS, DON’T BLAME ME AFTER,
THE DEAD VOTERS HAVE LIVING HELPER TO HELP THEM VOTE, FOR THE DEMOCRATS
THAT 16OO BLACK VOTERS IN MILWAUKEE VOTE FOR OBAMA ALONG WITH THESE DEAD, IN 2008,

EDIT; I guess you might call the voters the UNDEAD,
COME AT THE FULL MOON

ilovebeeswarzone says: I just copied what was sent to me that all. I had no idea it would show up.
The Messiah’ has commented that the military should pay for health insurance like everyone else.
I joing the USAF in 1957 and our pay was 78.00 a month and this was standard for many years till John F Kennedy was elected. He ws the first president I ever voted for. I was shooting pool in the service club in Bangor, ME or Dow AFB in 1963 when news came over the loudspeaker that he had been assinated.
When I was medically retired in 1971 I made 530.oo a month as an E-6 or T/Sgt. So i’m guessing that i made less than 50,000 during my 13 yr career.
1957: Some of you may not know this but it was understood that one would have medical and dental care for life and you told this to the troops when asking them to re-enlist but that was never put in writing? When Tricare first came out it meant that you paid 78.00 a month for Medicare to get this free’ insurance. That has went up now. That my 2 cts worth for today.

Charles Owens [Charlie]
you 2cents are worth more than that, many didn’t know you had so little and even now in theses times
it’s not enough, of course they could not give the value of what you gave all those years, but you should be having double the welfare get for having no value given to their AMERICA,,
THAT’S WHY I THINK , MITT ROMNEY WILL FIX THAT, WHY, BECAUSE HE KNOWS VALUE OF A GIVING
AS YOU ALL DONE BE IT PAST OR NOW, IT’S THE SAME HIGHEST VALUE WHICH MUST BE REWARD MORE THAN A MEDAL, IT MUST BE ADDED TO THE MEDAL.
BEST TO YOU

MITT ROMNEY SAID HE WILL MAKE THE MILITARY SRONG ENOUGH SO NO ONE WILL EVER MAKE THE MISTAKE
TO FORGET IT

@Greg: But they do and they are democrats!

ON THIS DAY some years ago there was THE BLITZ, IN THE WAR WITH GERMANY,

SADDENED, SENDING TO EVERYONE. PASS IT ON.
SHALL WE HIRE A MONUMENT ENGRAVER TO GO TO ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY AND ADD THE MISSING WORDS?
THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM AN APPALLED OBSERVER:
Today I went to visit the new World War II Memorial in Washington , DC . I got an unexpected history lesson. Because I’m a baby boomer, I was one of the youngest in the crowd. Most were the age of my parents, Veterans of ‘the greatest war,’ with their families. It was a beautiful day, and people were smiling and happy to be there. Hundreds of us milled around the memorial, reading the inspiring words of Eisenhower and Truman that are engraved there.
On the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the words President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor :
‘Yesterday, December 7, 1941–a date which will live in infamy–the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.’
One elderly woman read the words aloud:
‘With confidence in our armed forces, with the abounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph.’
But as she read, she was suddenly turned angry. ‘Wait a minute,’ she said, ‘they left out the end of the quote. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt ended the message with ‘so help us God.’
Her husband said, ‘You are probably right. We’re not supposed to say things like that now.’
‘I know I’m right,’ she insisted. ‘I remember the speech.’ The two looked dismayed, shook their heads sadly and walked away.
Listening to their conversation, I thought to myself, ‘Well, it has been over 50 years; she’s probably forgotten.’
But she had not forgotten. She was right..
I went home and pulled out the book my book club is reading — ‘Flags of Our Fathers’ by James Bradley. It’s all about the battle at Iwo Jima .
I haven’t gotten too far in the book. It’s tough to read because it’s a graphic description of the WWII battles in the Pacific.
But right there it was on page 58. Roosevelt ‘s speech to the nation ends in ‘so help us God.’
The people who edited out that part of the speech when they engraved it on the memorial could have fooled me. I was born after the war! But they couldn’t fool the people who were there. Roosevelt ‘s words are engraved on their hearts.
Now I ask: ‘WHO GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE WORDS OF HISTORY?????????’
Send this around to your friends. People need to know before everyone forgets.
People today are trying to change the history of America by leaving God out of it, but the truth is, God has been a part of this nation, since the beginning He still wants to be…and He always will be!
If you agree, pass this on and God Bless YOU!
If not, May God Forgive You!

Charles Owens [Charlie]
that and more of has been done with the OBAMA regime, they do things like that give the excuse that other might be offended they focus on PRAYERS, on CROSS which have been there for years,

My wife listens to Rush Limbaugh while we are going somewhere and I usually read but today it was different. He played a recording of Jimmy Carters speech in 1980 then played the same speech by Messiah last night, it was verbatim. You have to join to hear the speech but I read enough without joining.
