UPDATE: Obama Campaign Sues to Suppress Military Votes

Loading

UPDATE: After reading the entire law and the Obama campaign efforts, the story has taken a slightly different turn. I won’t delete this post since my integrity forbids me from hiding my mistakes, but owning them. The Obama campaign is not seeking to suppress the military vote…this time. It was easy for me to jump on that bandwagon since the Obama Justice Department has refused to enforce laws meant to assist overseas troops’ voting rights. When states failed to get ballots out to troops on time during the 2010 election, Holder refused to sue those them. So, when I initially read these reports it fit with the Obama narrative.

However, now that I am more informed and educated, the reality is that the campaign is suing to give EVERYONE the same voting opportunities as the troops. In essence, the suit is designed to give non-military voters an extra three days to vote in early voting. This means that liberals will be able to cast at least ten more votes per person.

By suing to have this law changed, the Obama campaign and DNC are basically saying that the sacrifices troops make that resulted in the need for the three additional dates is no more important than the sacrifices of every other citizen.

There’s a saying that goes, “when everyone is special, no one is special.”

Since President Obama began his 2012 reelection campaign back in January 2009, my inbox has been inundated with emails from the administration touting all the great things it has done for our troops. Program after program after program geared towards helping troops. Everything from the First Lady’s “Joining Forces” initiative to the launch of the redesigned Transition Assistance Program for troops leaving the service. Many are saying that the military vote could be the deciding factor in several key states.

The campaign even sent out a link to this Huffington Post op-ed written by Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Beau, who, according to the byline wrote it as a Major in the National Guard:

To help veterans find jobs when they get home, President Obama signed into law two tax credits that encourage businesses to hire unemployed veterans and wounded warriors.

A record number of veterans are entering the VA health system, so President Obama has significantly boosted the Veterans Affairs budget to ensure that veterans receive timely access to the highest-quality benefits and services. And though he knew it would be difficult, he’s making sure the VA eliminates the backlog by 2015.

Often times, it’s easy for a politician – on both sides of the aisle – to claim their overwhelming support for our nation’s fighting troops. It’s not hard to throw money at a perceived problem and say that something is being done.

If you really want to know whether a candidate supports the troops, one simply needs to observe their actions.

On July 17th, the Obama for America Campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and the Ohio Democratic Party filed suit in OH to strike down part of that state’s law governing voting by members of the military. Their suit said that part of the law is “arbitrary” with “no discernible rational basis.”

Currently, Ohio allows the public to vote early in-person up until the Friday before the election. Members of the military are given three extra days to do so. While the Democrats may see this as “arbitrary” and having “no discernible rational basis,” I think it is entirely reasonable given the demands on servicemen and women’s time and their obligations to their sworn duty.

While our Justice Department is working so hard to ensure that states can’t prevent the illegal immigrant vote, our troops’ votes are being sold down the river.

@Charles Owens (Charlie):

You can watch/listen to the speech in it’s entirety here (the video is not embeddable).

The transcript of the speech (as written, not as actually delivered) can be found here.

I found the similarities between Carter in 1980 and Obama 2012 rather remarkable.

aye
fox has 9/11 now in progress

I’ve seen “The wall.” I have The Statler Brothers’ song, “More Than A Name On A Wall” in my iTunes, and still usually shed some tears when I play it. It would be great if we NEVER have to build another war memorial.

Your story is one that HAS TO BE PASSED ON, so I did. I suggest others copy-and-past it and send it on to more people. I suggest you find out who to contact to correct the mistake.

I had to add some of my own comments along with yours. If anyone wants to use some of them, especially the image of the TOTUS, feel free to:

I’m not a church goer.  I’m not saying I don’t believe in God.  I’m just “neutral.”  I don’t have a problem with “God” being mentioned in government stuff, but when it is INTENTIONALLY OMITTED, I have a problem with that.

comment #99, if you want to read it there.  I have it at the bottom of this email.  With some of the things going on in the nation and in congress, I am getting VERY fearful for MY country.

The democrats took God out of their platform, until there were enough people complaining, so they took a vote to decide if they would allow God back in the democratic party.  The vote was by voice.  Both the yes and no votes sounded at about the same noise level, meaning the vote was split 50/50.  The democrat’s rule is that it had to have a 2/3s vote to pass.  The speaker didn’t know what to do.  He just stood there for a while.  Then took at least two more votes, all with the same result.  Then, the speaker declared that there was a 2/3s majority vote, and God was put back in the democratic party.  I haven’t heard yet if God will accept the invitation back in.

After Fox News showed the image below, it was understandable why the speaker didn’t know what to do or say after the TIE vote.

The ruling had already been typed into the TOTUS (Teleprompter Of The Unites States).  The name TOTUS was created after Obama was elected because he took them everywhere.  He has up to 17 of them.  He even uses them at Town Hall meetings.  Aren’t Town Hall meetings SUPPOSED to be impromptu, where the politician doesn’t know what the people are going to ask?  He has even used them at cabinet meetings.  After he was elected, he didn’t meet with, or talk to, ANY of his cabinet members for over TWO YEARS.  Other presidents met with their cabinets on a regular schedule to keep up on things going on.  Obama finds time to meet with union officials EVERY DAY.

The God issue reminded me of the gentleman who wanted to join a very prestigious church, but was rejected every time he applied.  One night, as he prayed to God to help him be allowed to join the church, God answered him, and told him, “You might as well give up.  I’ve been trying to get in that church for 30 years, and they won’t let me in either.

The gentleman who wrote the below comment, told about a woman who noticed something missing at the World War II memorial on The Mall in Washington DC.  In your opinion, should it be added?  I think it should.

If you want to pass the story on, please copy-and-paste it into your email, and send it to others you think will be interested.  I suggest cutting-and-pasting it because a lot of people don’t know how to send emails to groups of people without showing ALL of the addresses to EVERYBODY.

Romney will be better than Obama, but I still don’t want another politician in office.
