Obama Can’t Run On His Record….So Why Not Run Behind Reagan

“”If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from….You make a big election about small things,” ” – Barack Obama 08/28/08

Obama uttered these words just a few short years ago. It was supposedly a charge against politics as usual.

Now, he is following the politics as usual playbook to a tee.

And as he continues on his “anything but my record” tour he had the gall to say Ronald Reagan would be FOR the Buffet Rule:

President Obama continued his push Wednesday to build support for the Buffett rule by suggesting that Ronald Reagan would’ve backed the plan to set a minimum 30 percent income tax for the wealthiest Americans.

“If it will help convince folks in Congress to make the right choice, we could call it the Reagan rule instead of the Buffett rule,” Obama said in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

“I’m not the first president to call for this idea that everyone has to do their fair share,” he said, quoting one speech in which Reagan said it was “crazy” for the rich to be able to use loopholes to get out of paying taxes. “He thought that in America the wealthiest should pay their fair share and he said so.”

This new talking point was spearheaded by ThinkProgress which put up a video of a speech Reagan gave in 1985 in which he remarked about an executive paying a lower tax rate than his secretary.

Yet Reagan told the story as part of a larger pitch for tax reform. Unlike Obama, Reagan was interested in targeting loopholes so that he could lower rates, to allow people to keep more of their own money.

“Lower, flatter tax rates will give Americans more confidence in the future,” Reagan said in the speech referenced by Obama. “It’ll mean if you work overtime or get a raise or a promotion or if you have a small business and are able to turn a profit, more of that extra income will end up where it belongs — in your wallets, not in Uncle Sam’s pockets.

And Obama isn’t trying to close any of those loopholes. Whether the rich get richer or the poor get poorer is not the point. It’s getting re-elected, that’s the point. We spend 1,500 billion a year and he’s making speech after speech about a rule that would net 4-5 extra billion a year. What’s the point?

To get re-elected. To get his Socialist vision of our country more widely accepted. And when he is re-elected (and he will be, Romney has no chance) he can then begin pushing for the expiration of ALL the Bush tax cuts, including those on the middle class. That is the only way they can pay for the entitlement state envisioned by Obama and pals. Hell, even that won’t pay for it.

Sneaky Obama:

The Buffett rule is really nothing more than a sneaky way for Mr. Obama to justify doubling the capital gains and dividend tax rate to 30% from 15% today. That’s the real spread-the-wealth target. The problem is that this is a tax on capital that is needed for firms to grow and hire more workers. Mr. Obama says he wants an investment-led recovery, not one led by consumption, but how will investment be spurred by doubling the tax on it?

The only investment and hiring the Buffett rule is likely to spur will be outside the United States—in China, Germany, India, and other competitors with much more investment-friendly tax regimes.

Which means we’re screwed.

Exit quote:

So now we find out today that not only was Ronald Reagan for tax increases on the rich, Ronald Reagan was pro-abortion. Have you ever stopped to realize this bunch of people, the Democrat Party, Barack Obama, they hate Reagan. They have always hated Reagan. They engage in revisionist history about the Reagan years. But when they need to move their agenda forward, when they need to marshal support for what they’re trying to do, who do they invoke? LBJ? No. Teddy Kennedy? No. JFK? No. RFK? No. Bill Clinton? No. They invoke Ronald Reagan, the beloved Ronaldus Magnus.

Now, what does that tell you? They have to take one of the most popular presidents in history, a Republican, a person with whom they have absolutely nothing in common and without any agreement whatsoever and try to convince the American people Barack Obama is Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan did what Obama’s doing. It is shameless. It is offensive, and, like everything else Obama is doing, it’s a lie.

Exit video: (especially the last half when Stephen Hayes asks “don’t reporters have a job to do?”….why yes they do….to ensure Obama gets re-elected)

    Ronald Reagan on Abortion:
“We have the duty to protect the life of an unborn child.”

“Abortion is advocated only by persons who have themselves been born.”

“One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project.”

“With regard to the freedom of the individual for choice with regard to abortion, there’s one individual who’s not being considered at all. That’s the one who is being aborted. And I’ve noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born.”

“Make no mistake, abortion-on-demand is not a right granted by the Constitution. No serious scholar, including one disposed to agree with the Court’s result, has argued that the framers of the Constitution intended to create such a right.”

“Late-term abortions, especially when the baby survives, but is then killed by starvation, neglect, or suffocation, show once again the link between abortion and infanticide. The time to stop both is now.”

“We will never recognize the true value of our own lives until we affirm the value in the life of others.”

Seems pretty obvious that Obama is re-writing history.
He expects us all to be totally ignorant of what Ronald Reagan actually said.
Ronald Reagan was for certainty in our tax code.
He understood it aided economic growth.
Obama has a pull-the-rug-out-from-under-you type of tax/economic policy.

The left believes that the end justifies the means. They have always operated like this. If you think about it, it is similar to the radical Islam. Lying is a sin to Moslems except when they are dealing with non-Moslems. Then they can use any means like lie, cheat, steal and kill all they want to achieve their ends. I guess we must wait and see how stupid the US population is when we count the votes in November.

Great stuff in that article, Word.
    One:
    REAGAN:
“It stands to reason that the more complex our tax code is, the more open it is to abuse. So, we’re making it simple to make it fair. America’s tax plan will do away with special breaks for a few so we can lower the tax rates for all. Our simpler, three-bracket design will assure that no American pays one penny more than his fair share.”

Under Obama our ever more complex tax code has ballooned to more than 4 times the length of the complete works of Shakespeare!
Obama thinks more Americans should pay MORE for their share to be fair, not less.
Obama’s ”Buffett Rule” doesn’t close even one loophole. All it does is raise the rate of tax via a surcharge!

Apparently, Obama’s socialist vision—by which I assume is meant increasing taxes on the rich—is pretty popular among the majority. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0911/64017.html

Yes, I looked at your link. What’s amusing is that you think that all of those are supposed to be good achievements by Obama. Hell, the first section, Arts and Culture, lists Obama as increasing funding for the NEA to it’s highest level since 1992. What, exactly, about reducing the size and scope of government do you not get? Please tell us exactly where in the Constitution it spells out funding for Arts and Culture as being the prerogative of the federal government.

Attention to facts is why liberals prefer to govern on the basis of what is in the interest of the people, instead of one based on autocratic or theocratic beliefs, like the ultra-conservatives seem to prefer.

It’s hardly “attention to facts”, Lib1. Our Constitution was intended as a limitation upon the federal government on that which they can, and cannot, do. Conservatives don’t wish to govern on “autocratic” or “theocratic” beliefs, Lib1. Rather, we wish to govern as the Constitution intended, which actually gives more rights, freedoms and liberties to those living within our borders. Your way of governing is to assume that government is the sole creator of rights, freedoms and liberties, and the thing you missing is that if you believe government gives you those, then you also have to recognize that it can take them away, as well. The people of Greece are finding this out the hard way, and the result is rioting and mass hysteria.

If you want Greece, Lib1, then go there. If you want totalitarian rule, such as North Korea, then go there.

    Of course Liberal1.

A democracy can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. – attributed to Alexander Tytler. Or Alexander Tyler. Or Arnold Toynbee. Or Lord Thomas Macaulay. Or..???

Obama has put us over that top, the majority is now ready to vote for whoever promises them the most.

Obama has extended handouts to more Americans than at any time in US history.
Fully 1 out of every 5 dollars spent in the US comes through a government largess.
48.5% of all US households get some Federal Assistance.
49% of Americans pay NO Federal Income Tax at all, many of them get money back!
46.4 Million Americans get Food Stamps (SNAP)
12.7 Million Americans are currently unemployed, many more under-employed (7.7 Million)
Almost 8 Million homes have been foreclosed on since Obama took office.
6.3 Million Americans fell into poverty since Obama took office.
    Oh!
    But Obama had a STIMULUS!
$1.5 Million of it went to Indonesia.
$278,000 is what each stimulus job cost us taxpayers.
89,000 DEAD or incarcerated people got Stimulus checks.
3,700 people who got Stimulus checks are tax delinquents.
$24 Billion: Stimulus Funds Sent To Tax Cheats.
79% Stimulus Funds For Wind, Solar And Geothermal Energy Projects That Went To Foreign Firms.

$831 Billion: Price Tag Of Obama’s First Failed Stimulus.
$447 Billion: Price Tag Of Obama’s Second Stimulus.
$347.1 Billion: Debt Service Costs For Borrowing To Pay For Obama’s First Stimulus.

Yes, we need to change the tax code so that the 49percent not paying taxes should start paying taxes.

Dodd-Frank (DF) Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the biggest financial reform law since the Great Depression. – Yeeaahhh Dodd-Frank, the knee-jerk response by the Dems in 2010.

In July 2010, the Democrats rushed through a massive 2300 page bill that failed to address the real causes of the financial crisis. For example, a key reform missing in the Act was an exit strategy from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Instead, the Democrats used the crisis to pursue their long-term goals of a government managed economy. The Committee on Financial Services

Under the heading, Conservation, more spending:

Increased funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. ref
Increased funding for national parks and forests. ref
$175 million of ARRA allocated for water conservation, $135 million of that in the West.

Under the Economy heading, many, many of the cited sources are blogs, not actual companies, agencies or official data tracking entities, but blogs.

Under Energy, Green it was spend, spend and spend some more…

More than doubled federal spending for research on clean fuels.
$60 billion in spending and tax incentives for renewable and clean energy.
Invested in all types of alternative energy.
Increased funding for the Environmental Protection Agency.
Invested $2 billion in solar power, hailed new jobs. – See below
Established consumer tax credit for plug-in hybrid cars.
Provided grants to encourage energy-efficient building codes.
Doubled funding for bicycling, walking projects
(DOL) Dedicated $100 million in Energy Training Partnership green jobs training grants.
(DOL) Dedicated $150 million for Pathways Out of Poverty green jobs training grants.
$8 billion combined public/pvt funding committed to develop Smart Power Grid (part of ARRA).
Incentivized farmers to use more renewable energy and be more energy efficient.

On that Solar Energy Investments by the Obama admin:

With so much focus on the inefficiency of solar panels, few are aware of an even more costly solar technology called “thermal solar.” Like solar panels, the Obama Administration has offered billions in loan guarantees for thermal solar projects across the country.

Also like solar panels, the thermal solar projects are starting to fall apart financially. Even those projects that are ultimately successful will have extremely high costs and produce little environmental benefit.

Unlike solar panels, which turn energy from the sun directly into electricity, thermal solar uses heat to create steam that generates energy. The result is that energy produced using thermal solar is even more expensive than energy produced by solar panels. The Energy Information Administration says the projected average cost per megawatt hour (MWh) of energy for photovoltaic solar (solar PV) in 2016 will be $211. For thermal solar, the EIA notes, the cost is projected at $312.20 per MWh, or nearly 50 percent more. As inefficient as solar panels are, thermal solar is much worse.

Some will argue that in the right places, like the desert, it makes sense. The EIA looks at that as well. It notes that the projected minimum cost for thermal solar will be $192 per MWh, with the maximum reaching $642.50. By way of comparison, solar PV’s minimum cost will be $158.90, and the minimum cost for wind energy will be $82.30. Among the “green” energy sources, thermal solar is by far the worst of all options.Source

Under Energy Oil one of the “accomplishments” being touted is Obama’s EPA blocking the state of Texas from opening new refineries. But as the President says, there is no silver bullet to bringing down gas prices; however, it looks as if he knows plenty of ways to increase gasoline prices…

(EPA) Barred Texas’ authority to issue refinery operating permits.

Under the Foreign Policy, it cites a poll showing Obama improved the United States’ standing in the world. Only problem is that is that poll is two years old…

I mean I could go on and but really if these are his accomplishments, I really hope he uses this list and runs with it.

Yea now lets compare Reagan with Bush and the current GOP leadership!!! The only thing they have in common is the “Republican” tag.

Why do i ask? Because millions of Reagan Democrats have joined the intellectual conservatives and supported Obama as more conservative then those running as Republicans other then Ron Paul who is really a Liberatarian trying to rescue the GOP from is own demise. Where were you in 2008 when intellectual conservatives (many of which worked for Reagan) were told they wern’t needed in the GOP?

Keep embracing religious fanatics, hate groups, and civil war revisionists and the ultra rich and keep alienating blacks, gays, women, Hispanics, the working class, immigrants, and illegals, (who mostly work for the rich) while Reagon spins in his grave watching you distort everything he stood for. I voted for Reagon twice as a blue collar conservative and I never left the GOP……they left me! Reagan was a friend and a father to most of us and all they give us is men with noses so high they bleed from the altitude! I would still vote for Reagan with a brain desease over what there is now!

If a president tried that during the cold war they would be empeached! Why are the anti-communists here so deep in bed with Communist China? All that does is make their system look so much more better then ours! Communists in China are bailing out Democracy in America for generations thanks to the tough talking anti-communist under Bush! Why should anyone believe someone whose biggest partner is the biggest communist nation the world has ever seen? GOPocracy has a marriage of conveiniance with China! Get a divorce from China next time you get in power and you might have some point to make!

And thanks to folks like you, parroting the MSM’s and Left’s talking points, just how more likely is it for the Conservatives in the GOP to be able to begin the healing process? The process that Reagan spoke of at CPAC, all those many years ago.

You’re all fine with the GOP going Conservative, but we’re supposed to do the heavy lifting while you sit on your azz and whine about how unfair it is that the “party left you.”
