It began as a pre-emptive strike against the possibility of a Trump Admin. by the Nat. Sec. and Defense Establishment from the Bush and Obama Administrations because it was clear Trump was going to head down a different path. The Clinton Campaign was supported by the CIA and former Nat. Sec. officials in seeding disinformation into the press — which accepted it willingly and enthusiastically because of the NY-DC corridor’s hatred for Trump as well as their fear of what he might do.
The central point in my mind has always been that it was IRRELEVANT if Trump wanted closer ties to Putin or if Trump wanted to distance our connection to NATO and treat China as the greatest national security threat to US economic and military hegemony.
If the US electorate chose Trump to be POTUS, then it was the constitutional duty of the Beltway bureaucracy to carry out those policies or resign if they could not. There was not an option to oppose them from within.
It was 100% UNCONSTITUTIONAL for Comey and the FBI to initiate any investigation based on a claim of Russian influence after Trump won.
Once Trump was POTUS, what he wanted to do over-rode any “concerns” anyone in the FBI or CIA might have had about his policy preferences.
THAT was a soft coup.
The Democrats lied about Trump’s handling of Putin as Trump being a Russian asset, but Democrat policies have made Russia and China allies against the US. Well, how typically Democrat.
