Robert Mueller may be teeing up Adam Schiff

New comes today that Robert Mueller will allegedly be finishing up the Russia investigation very soon.

Washington (CNN)Attorney General Bill Barr is preparing to announce as early as next week the completion of Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, with plans for Barr to submit to Congress soon after a summary of Mueller’s confidential report, according to people familiar with the plans.

The preparations are the clearest indication yet that Mueller is nearly done with his almost two-year investigation.

The precise timing of the announcement is subject to change.

The scope and contours of what Barr will send to Congress remain unclear. Also unclear is how long it will take Justice officials to prepare what will be submitted to lawmakers.

But with President Donald Trump soon to travel overseas for a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Justice officials are mindful of not interfering with the White House’s diplomatic efforts, which could impact the timing.

The Justice Department and the special counsel’s office declined to comment.

The report does not necessarily have to made public:

Under the special counsel regulations, Mueller must submit a “confidential” report to the attorney general at the conclusion of his work, but the rules don’t require it to be shared with Congress, or by extension, the public. And, as Barr has made clear, the Justice Department generally guards against publicizing “derogatory” information about uncharged individuals.

As have others, James Clapper intimates that the report might be anti-climactic:

He said he was hopeful the Mueller probe will provide some answers, but warned it might not even draw a conclusion on whether there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

“I think the hope is that the Mueller investigation will clear the air on this issue once and for all. I’m really not sure it will, and the investigation, when completed, could turn out to be quite anti-climactic and not draw a conclusion about that,” Clapper said Wednesday on CNN.

That would be rather derelict and would prove the investigation to be galactic waste of time and money.

Clapper, a frequent critic of Trump’s, said people in the intelligence community see a strange deference on the president’s part toward Russian President Vladimir Putin. “The strange thing I think that has bothered a lot of people both in and out of the intelligence community is this strange personal deference to Putin by the president. I’ve speculated in the past that the way Putin behaves is to treat President Trump as an asset,” Clapper said Wednesday.

That’s pretty damned selective. When obama came into office one of his early actions was to placate Vladimir Putin. Then in 2012, when he thought he was off-record, obama promised to be more “flexible” for Putin. Why this wasn’t seen as a “strange deference” to Putin and why it didn’t cause Clapper or Mueller or anyone else in the IC to wonder if obama was a Russian asset is something that needs clarification.

The Mueller investigation was supposedly an investigation into the existence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. If it doesn’t, Mueller could be seen as teeing up Adam Schiff, who has vowed to carry on his quixotic quest for evidence of collusion. Not coming to any conclusion would be exactly what Schiff would want and make his efforts look a little less like what they are- a witch hunt designed to cripple Trump’s Presidency and re-election. In reality Schiff has nothing but smear and innuendo. I’ve said it a million times- if they had anything more they would have leaked it long ago.

I am wondering how CNN, who were apparently tipped off by Mueller’s team to Roger Stone’s arrest, scored this scoop as well.
