Covert Intelligence information confirms the present “migrant caravan” heading toward the US border from Honduras and Guatemala has grown to slightly more than TEN THOUSAND, but that an additional 40,000 Mexicans are staging in northern Mexico to join-up with that caravan.

@Greg: You must not have learned much during your brief time peeling potatoes in the military. Air Borne is how the 82nd gets to their fighting location. They then fight as as regular infantry. Their MTOE is designed to make them more mobile even on the ground. A unit like the 82nd will be able to support the Border Patrol much better than the National Guard. You should only discuss things you know about except then you would not be able to discuss anything!

Rumors are not helpful. There’s no news at all suggesting the 82nd Airborne is en route to anywhere. Sending airborne infantry troops to face off against unarmed civilians in a policing action wouldn’t seem to me like a particularly good idea. I imagine our military leaders understand that.
My expectation is that the marchers will be stopped at the border, and then be required to petition for refugee status in an orderly and time-consuming manner. Meanwhile, they’ll encamp on the other side, where they’ll soon become Mexico’s problem. Mexico will then become less willing to grant passage across their territory. That, I think, would be the smart way to play the situation.
