Hey what about these traitors?

The NY Daily News blasted the GOP on its cover today, calling them “traitors”:

Regardless of President Obama’s fecklessness in negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran, 47 Republican U.S. senators engaged in treachery by sending a letter to the mullahs aimed at cutting the legs out from under America’s commander-in-chief.

We join GOP signatories in opposing the pact as outlined, but we strenuously condemn their betrayal of the U.S. constitutional system.

The participants represented the bulk of the Republicans’ 54-member senatorial majority, vesting their petulant, condescending stunt with the coloration of an institutional foreign policy statement.

They are an embarrassment to the Senate and to the nation.

Really.

You know how often I say liberals have zero long term memory, right?

So let’s again crank up the Wayback Machine and see where the precedents for this originated and visit with some past “traitors.”

How many of you left wing whiners remember than Nancy Pelosi negotiated with Assad in 2007?

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday for talks criticized by the White House as undermining American efforts to isolate the hard-line Arab country.

Pelosi said Assad assured her of his willingness to engage in peace talks with Israel, and that she and other members of her congressional delegation raised their concern about militants crossing from Syria into Iraq, as well the Israeli soldiers kidnapped by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and the Palestinian group Hamas.

The Californian Democrat spoke to reporters shortly after talks with Assad at the end of a two-day visit to Syria.

Anyone remember three democrats going on a junket to Iraq to lobby for Saddam in 2002?

IT’S A RARE POLITICAL MOMENT when Terry McAuliffe says no comment. Yet McAuliffe, the garrulous chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said just that last Wednesday at the Brookings Institution after a speech by Al Gore. Asked about the trip to Baghdad taken by three of his fellow partisans–Representatives David Bonior, Jim McDermott, and Mike Thompson–McAuliffe was nonplussed.

They went to Baghdad and they called the President of the United States a liar:

“the president of the United States will lie to the American people in order to get us into this war.”

Their Middle East vacation was paid for by…wait for it…wait for it…Saddam Hussein.

So, we’ve got democrats guilty of violating both the Logan Act and the Hatch Act.

Now did George Bush assail Pelosi personally and accuse her of wanting to “make common cause” with Assad?

Of course not. He had class.

Did Obama accuse the GOP of wanting to “make common cause” with the hardliners in Iran?

Of course, because he has no class. Never mind that the GOP was telling the hardliners who want a nuke that they were not going to have a nuke.

Did Bush question the patriotism of McDermott and Bonior?

No.

Did Obama question Bush’s patriotism?

Yes.

So where were the “traitor” and “undermining” headlines back then? Those left wingers went overseas to undermine the Republican President. The Republicans today only wrote a letter. So why the hypocrisy?

Oh right. Those were democrats.

democrats wrote the book on undermining Presidents.
