Obama’s war on America: Texas edition [Reader Post]

Texas has been one of the very few bright economic spots in the United States. Half of the job growth over the last two years has been in Texas. In his ongoing effort to destroy the America, Barack Obama has targeted the Texas economy for destruction.

A year ago Obama’s EPA overturned Texas’ successful oil refinery permit program. This means that oil refineries will have to file for new permits, and that, given Obama’s war on oil exploration, means death for much of the Texas oil industry.

The EPA’s decision, announced in a statement, will force some 125 refineries and petrochemical plants to invest millions of dollars to get new permits. Many of the plants may also have to invest in updates to comply with federal regulations.

The decision did not come as a surprise to Texas or the industries. EPA regional director Al Armendariz has said for months he would disapprove the permits if Texas did not comply with the Clean Air Act.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s chairman Bryan Shaw insisted Wednesday the state’s permitting program complies with the Clean Air Act and has improved air quality in Texas. However, in an effort to satisfy the EPA’s concerns, Shaw said the commission recently changed the rules but apparently the EPA “did not take them into consideration.”

To further throw sand into the gears of the Texas economy, Obama is moving to make Texas hostage to the Sagebrush lizard.

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services website, “Threats to the lizard include habitat removal, fragmentation and degradation as a result of oil and gas development and shinnery oak removal.”

And the potential effect:

“If the Obama administration has its way, this scaly political pawn will land on the Endangered Species List, without sufficient supporting research to back up the move, and effectively bring new and existing oil and gas production in parts of Texas and New Mexico to a screeching halt,” said Cornyn.

Which is pretty much the unstated goal.

Now the EPA threatens the electrical supply of Texas as well.

It’s a rare moment when Republicans and unions agree on much, but as it turns out, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union agrees: The EPA is dangerously overreaching in its CATR finding. The IBEW also fired off a letter of protest on June 16, to Gina McCarthy, assistant administrator of the EPA’s Office of Air and Regulation. The letter strongly protests the EPA’s failure to allow for any comment on the rule change, and expresses the IBEW’s concern that “including Texas in the final CATR for SO2 would result in significant increases in electricity rates, temporary or even permanent shutdown of existing coal-fired power plants, reduced capacity reserves and enormous job losses. This action would directly jeopardize the jobs of approximately 1,500 IBEW members working at six different power plants across the state of Texas.”

Obama is happy to let Texas burn to the ground- he has refused Texas Federal Aid for the wildfire-ravaged state, but Obama did send aid to New Mexico.

White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley got more than he bargained for in a meeting with American manufacturers. After a barrage of criticism of Obama policies, Daley said:

“Sometimes you can’t defend the indefensible.”

The entire Obama Presidency is indefensible.
